Video summary

Michaela embarks on a seven-day social media detox to combat the feeling of living vicariously through screens rather than experiencing her own life directly. Before starting, she acknowledges the intense fear of missing out (FOMO) that drives constant phone usage and reframes this anxiety by suggesting there is also a "FOMO for living your actual life." Her initial day involves resisting the urge to scroll during mundane moments like waiting in line or traveling in cars, which initially feels disgusting but quickly becomes motivating. She replaces her usual digital distractions with healthier habits, such as drinking matcha slushies and patiently waiting without checking notifications, realizing that removing these constant interruptions allows for a sense of liberation and clearer thinking. Throughout the week, Michaela focuses on reclaiming lost time by learning Spanish using an app called Speak and rediscovering old hobbies like painting and reading books she had neglected due to travel fatigue. She also addresses her physical well-being after returning from trips with poor eating habits and alcohol consumption; instead of a strict water fast which might make her irritable, she opts for a bone broth cleanse combined with green juices made at home on the patio while engaging in paint-by-numbers activities. These experiences highlight how easily one can cave into cravings without social media as an alternative distraction, proving that food becomes more appealing when it is not competing against endless scrolling. By the end of the challenge, Michaela successfully completes seven days without actively using social media apps and reflects on profound changes in her mindset and productivity. She realizes she had accumulated four to six hours of screen time daily—equivalent to a full workday—which could have been spent on creative pursuits or rest instead. The detox reveals how often people mindlessly pick up their phones during passive activities like watching TV alone, leading to a loss of presence in the moment and an inability to remember what they just consumed. Ultimately, she concludes that while social media is useful for her job, it has become detrimental to her personal life, urging viewers to try a similar week-long break or use tools like app blockers to stop watching others' lives and start living their own again.

This is Michaela. Lately, she's felt like she's been watching everyone else's life through a screen instead [music] of truly living her own. Join her as she takes on a 7-day social media [music] detox, reconnects with old hobbies, and rediscovers the joy of being present. Sit back, enjoy the vlog, and stay until the end to see how these 7 days [music] changed her life. >> It's the night before I am starting this challenge, and it's going to be hard not to pick up my phone tomorrow. Well, I'm allowed on my phone, just not allowed on social media. It's going to be a challenge for this week, [music] and I'm just excited to track my productivity levels, track how it makes me feel just not having so much stimulation all the time. I feel like it's going to be nice. I'm a bit nervous. We're so addicted to our phones, so I don't want to be out of the loop. I think that's the main thing. I was just talking about this with a friend. It's like that's the main thing being off of social media is like literally just FOMO, like this fear of missing out. And like not being up-to-date in the loop. And then I was thinking of it the other way around where it's like, "What about FOMO of living your life?" Like that's the real FOMO that we should be having. That's the type of FOMO that I need to be thinking of. It's not normal for us to just like [music] be on social media all the time and like know all of these things and be in the loop. Like that is not normal for the human brain. [music] I'm giving myself a early head start tonight. I got my face tape on. I'm going to browse books right now before bed and download a new book because this is going to be needed [music] for the no social media. And then yeah, that's the plan for tonight. It's currently 10:00, so I'm going to get in bed. I'm going to scroll on social media tonight because this is my last time I'm going to be able [music] to do it. So, I will be taking advantage of it. Cheers to my last scroll for the whole week. >> [music] >> Hello, you guys. This is my official first day off of social media. I feel disgusted with myself cuz I feel like I was traveling so much and every spare second, like in the car, on the road trips, and stuff, I would just literally go on my phone. I would spend so much time just on social media, like in the in between moments. And I feel like I've just like scrolled so much and I'm just like getting so addicted, which is so bad. And I low-key just feel disgusted with myself and I feel so motivated to detox. I feel so motivated to detox and to literally put the social media apps to rest for the foreseeable future, for at least the week, and then we'll see after that. But I feel like I just have to do a detox of all of them and then see where that leads me. If I want to do more time, I can do more time after this week. But at least for now, I need to stay off the apps, stay off social media. It's summer. I need to be touching grass more. I need to be not like ultra consumed with my phone. That's the plan for this video is to kind of just like document my journey. I'm excited. I'm just picking up a matcha right now, so I'll talk to you guys when I have that. But we need a little reward. Hello. Is the matcha slushy pretty sweet? >> Yeah, it is. >> Okay, okay. What's the matcha with the coconut? Is it coconut water? Like you guys do Okay, I think I'm going to do that then. Yeah. >> There you go. >> Yeah, I've never tried it though. >> [music] [music] >> I got a matcha flight to test. They want feedback. This is A, B, and C. Let's try these. Actually, I'll just sip them. Cheers. Ooh, this one's very light, very florally. Okay. This is B. I like to A more. Let's try C. They all taste very similar, but I think I like A. I think that's my winner. A. They're all good. >> [music] >> This is my first time trying matcha with coconut water, so this isn't actually like a latte. It's made with matcha foam and then coconut water. So it's a slay and it's actually really good, light, and refreshing. It's really, really, really good. I honestly didn't think I'd like it this much, but this might be my go-to drink for the summer. Matcha with coconut water. Who would have thought? I have to try making this at home because it's going to be addicting now. It's so good and refreshing and it's probably way more hydrating than making it with milk. When I was waiting for my matcha, I was about to scroll social media and I was like, "Oh my gosh, Makayla, be present. Stop picking up your phone every 2 seconds to scroll social media." Such a bad habit. I feel like I'm going to start clocking myself in so many little ways like that throughout this week that I'm like, "Put down the phone." This is going to be really hard at the gym, I feel like, like when I go work out. Maybe I'll try to do a workout class or something. No scrolling for me. I just waited patiently for my drink without any social media, which was a change and I feel like honestly very refreshing. So, that was my first little notice that I was like, "Oh, okay. Not using the phone in the line here. We're just going to be waiting patiently." And I feel like that's my thoughts and ideas come to because I feel like we're just constantly distracting ourselves. So, I'm going to head home now. I have a lot of work to do today and I just need to organize the house and like get my stuff back on track a little bit. So, I'll keep you guys updated throughout the week with my thoughts, my feelings, and how this week feels with zero social media. Wish me luck and we'll see how it goes. >> [music] [music] >> One of my goals of doing the no social media/social media detox for the week is to prove to myself that by removing distractions I can actually allocate time and I have time to learn something new. Because if you think about it, the time that you spend scrolling on your phone every day, imagine if you just dedicated even half of that time or a quarter of that time to learning something new every single day, you would become so much smarter. Recently I have decided to spend about 5 to 10 minutes per day learning Spanish. It's honestly something that I've been wanting to do for years. I've always said, "If I were to ever learn a second language at my age, it would be Spanish." Because I feel like it's used in so many places. I've actually never been to Spain, but I definitely want to go maybe next summer or something. And how cool would it be if I can confidently go and order food and ask questions in Spanish. To learn Spanish, I've been using Speak for the last little bit. I started it last week and I'm going to continue it throughout this week. It gets you speaking out loud right away instead of having to flip through flashcards or just like memorizing random words. It makes it feel so much more like having real conversations, especially because I am like a hands-on learner. Buenas. >> Excelente. Great job. Okay, when you get your food, don't forget to say, "Gracias." >> Gracias. >> Oh, and if someone says, "Gracias" to you, respond with, "De nada. You're welcome." Say, "De nada." >> De nada. >> Buen trabajo. Good job. Notice that the H doesn't make a sound, not "Hasta luego." Try it out. >> It is so easy to get started on Speak. The first thing that I did was set up my custom learning path, which is really nice because it tailors your lessons based on what you're actually trying to learn. Instead of making everybody follow the exact same course, it's tailored to you. My favorite feature on Speak has been their free talk feature because you can practice conversations in different real-life situations. I've been doing things like ordering coffee, introducing myself, asking for directions, things that I would actually use while traveling. So, it's so useful. And something I didn't expect to like as much as I do is the hands-free mode. I will literally get to put my headphones on while I'm on my hot girl walk, getting my 10,000 steps, cleaning while I'm cooking, and I'll get to actually speak out loud while I'm simultaneously doing something. So, it literally feels like I don't even have to carve extra time out of my day. I can do it while I'm simultaneously being productive. After using it consistently for even just like last week, 1 week, I definitely feel so much more comfortable saying simple phrases and speaking them out loud. Obviously, after a week, I am nowhere near fluent yet. I will get there, but this feels like a really solid start. Speak is literally the perfect tool to use, especially if you are wanting to get off social media and do something more productive with your time. So, if you guys have been itching and wanting to start learning a new language, getting ready for your travels, or just expanding your knowledge, I will leave a link in my description where you guys can try Speak for free for 1 week. Comment down below or DM me what language you chose to speak. Thank you so much to Speak for sponsoring this video. I will show you guys when I use it this week when I'm staying off of social media. I will be documenting my progress throughout the week. Thank you so much to Speak for partnering with me on this video. >> [music] [music] >> Good morning, you guys. I feel honestly so good being off of social media. It kind of feels completely freeing in a way. Or like before bed, I feel like I got so tired because I had nothing to scroll on, and I feel like scrolling usually will keep me up and awake. But, I literally just was like, "Oh my gosh, I feel so like liberated." I didn't even end up reading last night because I was just tired. Like once I got into bed, since I didn't even have the option of scrolling, I got so tired, and that was it. I didn't even read last night, but I'm definitely going to download a new book tonight to start reading cuz I know that's not going to be like that every single night. But anyways, I just feel so good. Obviously, there's like a little bit of FOMO there with the notifications. Like I'm not clicking on anything. Obviously, I want to see what's up and I want to be clicking on my notifications, but I'm not. I'm being a good girl and I'm not clicking on anything. But it's been easier than I thought it was going to be and I just feel felt like I had so much free time. Usually, when I'm like editing and working on my computer, like in between moments, if like something's loading or I'm waiting for something, that's the time where I'll be like going on my phone scrolling. But the amount of times that I have opened my phone and almost clicked a social media app like by instinct. Like obviously, I moved the apps off of my home screen so then it wouldn't be in the same spot so that instincts couldn't even work. Literally, you guys, the amount of times that I have opened my phone and like tried to click on the social media apps is so diabolical. But with that being said, it's just been feeling like refreshing to not be just like going on social media every spare second. And you only really realize how often you go on it and use it until you take it away and you're like, "Oh my gosh, like this is a bad habit." Really bad habit that I We've all developed, honestly. But anyways, I'm going to kind of get ready for the day now. I'll keep you guys updated throughout the day. I do have a nail appointment coming up in a couple hours, so I will take you guys to my nail appointment. I'm so excited. I've never been so excited to get nails off in my whole entire life. These are so overgrown. I'm so excited for this appointment. I've been waiting. I was supposed to get them done last week, but they just didn't have an appointment that fit my schedule cuz I was also away for the weekend. I'm just over the moon to get these taken off. These are my Portugal nails for FIFA. I loved them, but they're just so overgrown that they're just disgusting and I want them off of my fingers. Anyways, going to get my day started and I will keep you guys updated throughout the day. >> [music] [music] >> Currently at the drugstore right now because I just need to get some product for a campaign that I'm shooting today, but nails are just done. I just came over here after the nails and you guys I am literally so obsessed with the nails. Like they're actually perfect. Oh my goodness. I don't think I've ever had a nail set that I loved so much. I genuinely keep looking at them and I wanted to get my nails done before I shot this campaign because I was like my hands are going to be in it a lot. So I need to have my nails done. So anyways, I'm obsessed. The nail lady was also so nice. I've never had such a nice nail lady in my life. And I'm going to rebook with her time and time again cuz she was just [music] so nice. She did such a perfect job. She was so attentive to detail. Anything I wanted, slay of the nails. I love when I get a good nail set. It's so satisfying. So anyways, I'm going to do what I need to do. Still haven't touched social media, obviously. Feeling great, honestly. Talk later. Hello you guys. I just got to Whole Foods. I have not been feeling well to be honest ever since I got back from my trips. I feel like I was traveling so much. I was just eating like to be completely frank. I was eating so bad. I usually don't drink alcohol and I was drinking some alcohol just, you know, wedding, fun. And my stomach is in complete shambles, you guys. I have not been feeling great. I've had a little bit of like a headache, my stomach. I know I have some sort of stomach bug because my Aura ring is like, "Girl, you're sick." I've also never had so much sleep debt in my life because the Aura ring calculates your sleep debt. The max sleep debt that I've had before this is like 3 hours, which means like you just need to get 3 hours extra of sleep. It's important that you catch up on it. My sleep debt right now is at 7 hours. That is so horrible. I have just been getting shitty sleeps, eating so badly, and then alcohol on top of that all. And you guys know I love loving a healthy lifestyle. I love working out. That's why I like my routine at home, but being on vacation is so fun and I do enjoy it, but it also just like completely puts me out of my routine, puts me out of my groove, and then whenever I come back, I always just feel like to be honest and like I'm just so excited to get back into my routine. So, that's where I'm at right now. I just feel kind of sick. Like I feel fine. It's a weird feeling. I don't know how to really explain it. Like I do feel fine. I can do my tasks. I can function, but I just know that I'm not nearly close to my 100%. Like I have purposely not fully worked out since I got back a couple days ago because my body I just don't feel like I have that energy whatsoever cuz I feel like and my Oura Ring is literally telling me do not work out. Like it said you need to be resting, which I definitely am. Like I have just been um purging in one way or another, if you know what I mean. So, yeah. I've just been feeling not the best, like and so I decided that I'm going to do a I was originally thinking about doing like a couple day fast, like just a water fast to just like really purge my system. But then I'm like, "You know what? I'm going to get hangry. I'm going to get cranky." So, I decided instead of to do doing that, I'm going to do a bone broth cleanse. So, I'm just going to strictly drink bone broth for the next two or three days. I'm going to take it day by day and see how I feel, but I really just need a purge. I have never ever in my life done like a full fast, a full water fast. I've never done a bone broth fast, even a juice cleanse. I've never done anything like this before because I have never felt this way where I felt like I ever needed to, but honestly guys, I my system just is like begging to be cleared out and I just wanted to solely drink bone broth and water and tea maybe. So, those are like the three things that I'm going to stick to. This is not professional obviously medical advice whatsoever, so do what's right for you. So, take this with a grain of salt, but that's what I personally just like feel like my body is craving right now. Even since I got back, I haven't eat been eating the best I feel like and so my body just needs a break. It needs a rest. Bone broth is super healthy for you. So, this is my attempt at a little cleanse. I was thinking juice cleanse or bone broth, but honestly, I feel like I need to also cut out sugar cuz I have been diving into the sweet treats recently, for sure. So, I'm just going to do bone broth. So, I'm at Whole Foods and I'm literally just going to get a bunch of bone broth. Joel has some requests for some food that he would like in the house cuz he's not doing this with me. I'm committing to this. I've never done anything like this before, like I said, so I'm excited to see how it my body reacts to it. Like with the social media detox and with this, I should be good to go, hopefully, in a few days. I'll update you all on my progress throughout this vlog on how I feel and stuff. But, yeah, I've just honestly been feeling like like I did get a good sleep last night, though. Like I've been like making myself sleep in to catch up on my sleep debt. I got a really good sleep score on my Oura Ring, but my readiness score is like, "You're sick. Your heart rate is so elevated." And I can feel that in my body, so yeah. Let's go in. Let's do our grocery shopping and hopefully get rejuvenated after this. Yeah, Joel just sent me a few things for the shopping list. Coke, stevia, tuna, ketchup, tortilla chips. What are you making, babe? What are you making? I'm going to have so much food if I'm old, but I've never challenged myself in this kind of way, ever. Like I've never done a juice cleanse or anything like that. But, like knowing me, I cannot do a full fast. Like I will get so hangry and be such a I need something in my stomach, so we're compromising for the bone broth. >> [music] [music] >> This is looking like my bone broth selection here. I might get [music] like one of each or something like that, just so I can switch up the taste and stuff. I don't even know how much to get to last me, but I can always get more, so I'm not overdo it for now. >> [music] >> Just got home from Whole Foods. It just started raining. I'm pretty sure it's going to be raining for the next few days or maybe tomorrow's going to be nice and then we're getting rain for like 5 days straight, which I'm like, "Where is the summer?" Anyways, I was literally going to open my phone cuz I got an Instagram notification. I had to stop myself. I was like, "No." When I was at the store, I was like, "You know what? If I feel the need to have something other than bone broth, I bought myself some fruit so I can make a juice cuz I definitely want to stick with liquids for the next couple days depending on how long I last here, but I bought some kale so then I can make a nice green juice. So I bought stuff for that because I know, knowing me, I'm going to cave and I'm going to have something. So better that it's fruit juice than anything else. I got some green onions to put in my bone broth if I want to make it more of like a soup. I feel like onions are fine. I'll make my own rules for this. And then I just got some ketchup. And then let me show you guys the types of bone broths that I got. I got a couple different brands and everything. So I'm going to take them all out and I'll show you guys. I got cucumber for the juice, carrots for the juice. I love a good carrot juice. And then I also randomly just got kimchi cuz I know that kimchi's really good. It's like fermented. It's really good for your gut. So I feel like I need a gut reset so I'm going to also be taking this. And I love the taste of this stuff. It's so good. So I got that. Okay, so these are the types of bone broth that I got. I basically just picked what they had. RIO, 100% grass-fed beef bone broth parsley and cumin. I think I'm going to make this one right now. Bone broth is so expensive. Won't be doing this often. One of these packs was $15, which is insane because that's like two cups in here. I feel like it's worth the money. I'm not going to be doing this for long. Then I just got some powdered ones. I really like this one. I used to have this all the time. Thai coconut. I love these. And then I just got two of these, chicken and then a beef one. I think I've had the beef one before and I like it if I recall correctly. So I got these two and then yeah, that's all that I got for bone broth for now. Like I said, I can always go back and get more, which will probably be needed if I'm going to just be doing this for a couple days. And then I just got some apples for my future juice that I'm going to do. I also got some celery. Apparently, celery is really good for your stomach and stuff, so I need that to put in the juice. Then I got four cans of tuna. So, that's Joel's request. I got these Zevia colas, basically Coke, that Joel requested, but they rebranded again. I feel like this is their second time rebranding or third time. Anyways, that's the whole. I'm going to heat up some bone broth right now to have because I'm just feeling really off right now. My stomach is starting to hurt and I just like I don't even know. I'm definitely kind of sick. So, going to put this away. Bone broth is ready. It's like a different kind of taste than I've ever tasted. It's not bad. It kind of just tastes like parsley, but it's not bad at all. I like a lighter bone broth than like a really intense one. So, this is good. I just took a shower. I got my jammies on. I actually just got these pink pajamas when I was at Target in the States. We don't have Target, unfortunately, here in Canada. But, I'm going to make my spearmint tea. You know, you know, I've been on this and I have actually been off of it for so long now because of all the traveling that I've been doing, bouncing around. So, I'm really excited to get back into a routine with tea. I feel like this made such a big difference when I was drinking it. So, I'm going to get back on drinking it. Spearmint tea is just so good. It has so many like benefits for hormones and stuff. You can look it up. But, anyways, I'm going to steep this nice big cup of tea and relax for the evening. I have a little bit of editing to do that I'm just going to do on the couch. I'm still finishing my violin. Honestly, my mind feels so much clearer. I'm excited to read tonight and this has been going great. You don't really miss scrolling if it's not an option. You know what I mean? Like I feel like it's such a habit. We don't even realize that we do that. It's like when we take it away, it's not even like we necessarily miss it. It's just like a habit. That's how I feel right now. I'm just like clear-headed. I feel good. I did go on TikTok to post a TikTok because I just did a little TikTok of me getting my nails done, but that was it. I literally just went into my own page, my own video. I didn't scroll. I was just using it for my personal page. So, that was it. That was the only time I opened a social media app today. I'm going to do my Spanish lesson later. When I'm done editing on my computer, I'm going to do that tonight, and then I'm going to read before bed. I am feeling a lot better. My stomach is feeling a lot better. So, this tea is definitely going to seal the deal for me. I'm going to put some collagen in it cuz if you guys watched one of my previous vlogs, you know spearmint tea and collagen is my new hyperfixation little nightly drink. So, I'm going to do that and just relax for the evening. So, cheers to that. >> [music] [music] >> You know what? We need to get more greenies tomorrow, babe. We have like none left. Hello. What are you doing? Hello. Hey, hello. She loves her treats. >> [music] [music] >> It is officially juice time. I just prepped all of the veggies and the fruit, and I'm going to juice. I'm going to take it outside and I bought this color painting thing, which I'll show you guys. So, instead of scrolling while I'm drinking the juice, we're going to go on the patio and have a nice serene experience without social media. Let's make this juice first to give me some nutrients and I just really want something sweet. So, yeah, as you can see, I cut everything up. I got a bunch of apples, kale, carrots, celery, cucumber, and that's going to be the juice. I might need to do some more apples if it's not sweet enough cuz it's a lot of savory vegetables and not a lot of apples. So, I might have to put more apples, but anyways, let's get juicing. >> [music] [music] >> Oh my gosh, it's the perfect sweetness. Not too sweet. I can still taste like the the green juice in it, but it's really good. So, I am outside on the patio. Literally feels so good with the sun hitting me. I have my green juice here. So good. I picked this up today. Painting by numbers and it's just such a beautiful little swan photo. It's something to do. You know what I mean? Like other than go on my phone and maybe I can even do it on the couch or something, but I'm going to spend a little time right now and just be peaceful, listen to the city noises, and do a little paint by numbers and see how it turns out. I've actually never done one of these before, surprisingly, but it looks fun and I really like the color palette of colors down here that they have. So, yeah, it came with a brush and everything. It was only $8. So, let's open this up and start it. I honestly feel like there's so many hobbies and stuff that I don't do, like coloring or painting, that I just don't even think of doing because every spare second that I have, I'm just innately on social media, and I would choose scrolling over this because it's just so addicting. And then whenever [snorts] I have like P nights with friends or something and I'm like, "Oh my gosh, why don't I do this on my own?" It's because social media is just so addicting. Here's the before, literally nothing on it. I'm so excited to do this. I'll become a little artist while doing this. >> [music] [music] >> You guys, I am breaking my fast with a homemade dog cake tonight. I am craving one. Oh my goodness, the food you crave when you're not allowed to eat is crazy. Or my bone broth fast, whatever. I am picking up the funfetti cake mix, and I'm just going to use this to make the dog cakes cuz I already have sprinkles, and I just need the cake. And then I'm going to make a cream cheese icing. I just love cream cheese icing. So, I'm going to make my own homemade icing for the dog cake, but I'm going to pick this up. Thank gosh they have it. I'm so excited, you guys. I've never been so excited to eat a dessert. My sweet tooth has been going off the charts. Honestly, I've been craving a sweet treat and real food way more than going on social media. So, there's the verdict. If you want to distract yourself not going on social media, literally do a bone broth cleanse or a juice cleanse, and you will see how much you crave food because I am so hungry, and I feel so much better. So, I think it did help. It gave my body a reset. But anyways, let's get our ingredients, and then I will keep you guys updated. >> [music] [music] >> I got these sprinkles, which I got in the States when I was there for my cousin's wedding. They do not sell these in Canada this big. And then when I saw them at the grocery store, I was like, I need to get them, and I need to make a dog cake. So, here we are. Literally what I did, this was the cake pan, and what I literally did was just stuff this in here like that, and then I just got it out, and it stuck in there. These little IKEA dishes that I got years ago is the perfect thing to use this for, and I just made some icing cuz I love cream cheese icing. So, if I was going to do it, I'm going to do it right. So, I'm going to lather that in icing. I don't have like proper utensils for this, but just going to make do. As long as the sprinkles could stick on, then we're good. Okay. This plate is honestly perfect for the sprinkles cuz it has a little rim on it. Literally perfect. Now, I'm going to stick this in here. Oh my gosh, it's going to be so satisfying. Oh my gosh! That is so satisfying. That is so satisfying. I don't think I've ever mentioned this before, but I'm such a sprinkle girl. Like, I have always been a sprinkle girl through and through. I just love sprinkles, and this just looked so delicious. I can't believe I waited this long to make it. It was so easy to make. Literally just got the cake ball, got icing, and got sprinkles. So Let's give it a taste. Wow. Oh, wow. >> Mhm, 10 out of 10. >> Give me some. >> Wow, that is so damn good. >> Mhm. >> I didn't even follow the recipe for the icing. I just kind of eyeballed it. Made my own little recipe. It's so easy. Once you have icing sugar, you just add Or so you whip butter first, then you put the cream cheese in, whip that, and then add the sugar, and then you're basically done. Mixes all together. That is so good. 100% recommend making your own dog cakes. I know they're selling it everywhere now. So satisfying. Oh my gosh, this is like actually I'm living my childhood dreams right now with these sprinkles, and I'm so happy. I don't even miss social media. Like I just took a photo of my dog cake, and I'm like, "Oh, I should post it on my Instagram story." But I'm like, I'm not even going to go on Instagram. Not even going to click the app. Proud of myself. I'm going to enjoy this now. Would recommend to make your own. So fun. Tapping into the inner child's I love freaking sprinkles. Rainbow sprinkles in specific. >> [music] [music] >> You're welcome. >> De nada. >> Thanks. >> [music] >> Gracias. Buenas. >> See you later. >> Hasta luego. Hasta [music] luego. >> Thanks. >> I'm feeling so great and it is pouring rain cozy day today and it is the weekend so I am going to literally cozy up and read all day. I was going to go outside today and like paint or something but it's honestly more of a reading vibe and maybe I'll even watch a movie or just something cozy like that and so that's the plan for today just taking it chill. I feel like on these days it is kind of the hardest not to go on social media when I'm not working when I'm not too busy because the days that you're doing nothing is a day that you like crave the stimulation and crave to be scrolling on social media because you really have nothing better to do especially on a day where it's raining like this but I am going to complete the last day of the challenge and I will yeah give you guys a whole debrief in a bit later today on how everything went. I just started the book Say You'll Remember Me by Abby Jimenez. I've read one of her books before so this is my second book that I'm reading of hers and it's really good so far. Anyways, I'm going to continue reading and update you guys later. I have officially successfully completed seven full days without going on social media. So before I end off today's video I obviously want to sit down with you guys and just kind of give you a rundown on how I feel after these seven days. So I noticed at the beginning of the week like days one to three it was just constant. I would be picking up my phone searching for the apps and then clocking myself and being like what am I doing? Put that down. I really heavily noticed every time that I watched TV and also sat down to eat I was like what the heck do I do because whenever I watch a show I'm simultaneously on my phone unless I'm watching with Joel. When I watch a show with Joel I always am present and watching the show I don't go on my phone but whenever I'm alone watching a show I always need some sort of extra distraction for some reason and I always pick up my phone so it was a really good exercise just like be present with myself watching it. Also eating I obviously cannot scroll or be on social media while eating so that was also a challenge and yeah I would just like pick up my phone at random times of the day to go scroll, and I'm like, "What am I doing?" You really realize how addicted you are to social media after trying to detox from it, and then realizing how many times you pick up your phone. Like, it was disgusting. There was a beautiful video on social media that I urge you guys to go click and [music] watch. I will link it in the description box for you guys, and that is what originally motivated me and inspired me to do this challenge. [music] So, I would highly recommend to go check out the video. Link is in my description from another creator here on YouTube. [music] It's a beautiful video, and it's actually so true. I resonated with absolutely everything in the video, and I'm sure you will, too. Essentially, I feel like the biggest takeaway that I got from this is that you actually have so much more time in a day than you think. [music] Having like a 4 to 6-hour screen time is crazy. That is like a full work day of scrolling [music] on your phone. Like, I'm pretty sure my average screen time was like 4 hours on my phone, which is like actually insane. And that's 4 hours that I gained of peace, of productivity, of hobbies, like so many other things that I can dedicate time towards rather than like mindless scrolling. Another thing I realized is I never remember anything after scrolling. In the video that I urge you guys to go watch, she mentioned like saving so many things in [music] like these collection folders on TikTok of things that you want to do, and then they just start adding up, and you never actually do that. That is actually crazy cuz I feel like today's day and age we are just living on social media, and it's kind [music] of a scary concept and a scary thought. so good to like touch grass [music] and to do something other than scrolling, and I realized it like motivated me and inspired me to actually like start some hobbies like painting. I don't think I filmed this, but I bought a soccer ball. I feel more inspired to bake, to cook new recipes. When you have social media there as a constant option of distraction, you're always going to choose that over basically doing anything else. And so, I urge you to do the challenge for at least a week, and just to see how you feel. If you need to, just delete the apps if you want to make it easier for yourself. I didn't delete the apps. I just put them in a folder and like put them at the very end of my phone so I couldn't see them. Or you can get a brick. A brick is basically this like device that you can buy that literally bricks you out of your social media platform. So maybe I need to get one of those for the future. I feel like I'm going to purchase one of those. I've been wanting to purchase one of those. So I feel like social media obviously is a great thing. My job is literally social media, but it can also be the downfall of you. I want to actually start living my life and stop watching other people's lives. I feel like this week I really got to do that and it was such an amazing feeling. So you feel like your days have been spent mostly scrolling rather than living. Do a little detox. It will do wonders and I'm even considering to just ban myself from scrolling literally till further notice because I just feel so amazing after this week. It's genuinely life-changing. My mind feels clearer. I feel like I have so much time in a day. I feel so much more productive. There was no comparison happening this week cuz I wasn't involved in other people's lives. Half of the time I put down my phone, I don't even remember what I just consumed and that's the scary [music] part. It actually feels like I'm wasting my life away doing that. Anyways, I urge you to try this challenge. Go touch some grass and let me know how you feel. Let's start a conversation down below if you guys are going to join this challenge with me and just try it for a week. I also feel like I brushed up on my Spanish this week. I did it for a week straight and I don't think I would have done that if I wasn't on social media. So now I've done it for 2 weeks straight and I genuinely feel so good that I'm learning something new. So the link to Speak obviously will be down below the description. If you guys want to learn a new language while you're doing this challenge, you could get a week for free like I said. So check that out. It'll be perfect to kickstart your no social media challenge cuz then you could start learning a language. But yeah, thank you guys so much for watching this video.
