The strange part is some of those tricks really can change what you feel, just not for the reason the internet [music] says. So, if your heart races before a meeting, your stomach tightens during conflict, or you feel exhausted after a stressful week, does that mean your nervous system is dysregulated? Or could it mean your nervous system is doing exactly what it was built to do? To answer that, forget the viral diagram for a moment. Your autonomic nervous system is not simply a gas pedal called sympathetic and a brake pedal called parasympathetic. [music] It is a living control network, constantly adjusting heart rate, breathing, blood pressure, digestion, temperature, attention, and energy use. Its job is not to keep you calm.
