Video summary

Erin Keith, a performance marketing director at State Farm Insurance, shares her enthusiasm for attending MozCon for the second time, highlighting the unique value of bringing a cross-functional team together for such an event. Having enjoyed the conference last year, Erin was particularly excited this time to immerse herself and her colleagues from various disciplines in the same learning environment while representing their shared brand. She emphasizes that despite working in different phases and stages of marketing, the collective experience allows everyone to learn simultaneously, ensuring that the insights gained will directly contribute to building a stronger, unified strategy upon returning home. A significant takeaway for Erin came from Amanda Jordan's keynote address, specifically regarding the critical importance of maintaining a human element in the age of artificial intelligence. Erin resonated deeply with Jordan's assertion that if one cannot explain what AI is doing, there is no business reason to use it, reinforcing the necessity of having a human backstop in place. This perspective underscores the belief that technology should serve to enhance human capabilities rather than replace them, ensuring that teams remain enabled and empowered to leverage AI tools effectively without losing the essential oversight and understanding that only humans can provide. The core argument presented is that successful performance marketing strategies in the modern landscape must balance technological advancement with human intuition and accountability. By fostering an environment where diverse team members learn together, organizations can ensure that every member understands the nuances of new tools like AI, preventing blind reliance on automation. This collaborative approach not only strengthens internal knowledge but also guarantees that the strategic decisions made are grounded in a clear understanding of how these technologies impact business outcomes, ultimately leading to more robust and sustainable growth for the brand. In conclusion, Erin's experience at MozCon illustrates that the true value of such conferences lies in the shared journey of learning and the ability to translate complex ideas into actionable strategies for an entire team. The emphasis on a human backstop serves as a guiding principle for integrating AI responsibly, ensuring that performance marketing teams remain agile, informed, and strategically sound. By bringing these lessons back to their respective teams, Erin and her colleagues aim to create a culture where technology is used to augment human effort, driving innovation while maintaining the critical oversight needed for long-term success in the evolving digital marketing landscape.

Hi, I'm Erin Keith and I'm a performance marketing director at State Farm Insurance. This is my second Moz Con, so I was just overall excited for Moz Con in general because I had a blast last year and I was really able to immerse myself in the conference and so I'm mainly excited today to experience all of this with my cross-functional team members that have joined me here. >> [music] >> So we're all sitting in this and and learning it all and hearing it together and we all come from a variety of disciplines, but we ultimately [music] all work for the same brand. Everybody's learning together. We're kind of like different phases and stages, but at the same time everything that we're going to take back home will help us build on our strong strategy and that's really what I was mainly excited about today. And so when I heard Amanda Jordan speaking today, [music] she was commenting about ensuring that you have a human backstop. I loved her comment that she said about if you can't explain what AI is doing for you, then you have no business using it. And so as humans, you know, we're able to do that and having that human backstop is still so important and [music] something that I'm going to bring back to my teams. Everybody feeling like enabled and using it to enhance. >> [music]
