Why Do We Overwork Our Websites And Offers?

Video summary

The video addresses the unique challenges faced by solopreneurs who build businesses deeply aligned with their personal values, purpose, or spiritual calling. Because these entrepreneurs view their work as an authentic expression of their true selves rather than merely a means to make money, they often develop a heightened sense of perfectionism. This drive for authenticity leads them to overwork essential elements of their business, such as website pages, service descriptions, and offer frameworks, striving to ensure every detail perfectly matches their internal intuition and external feedback. This tendency toward excessive refinement creates a significant bottleneck where solopreneurs invest disproportionate amounts of time and money into making their offerings presentable before ever launching them. They may hire designers to polish materials or create signature webinars that require weeks or months of additional learning and production. The result is often a cycle of delay and hesitation, where the fear of releasing something that isn't perfectly aligned causes them to stall, ultimately preventing them from reaching their audience despite having valuable insights to share. The core issue highlighted is the shock many solopreneurs feel when they finally launch their work and discover that nobody is signing up in the numbers they expected. After pouring immense energy into creating a "perfect" offer based on deep alignment and intuition, they are left confused by the silence or lack of immediate traction. The speaker admits to experiencing this genuine frustration firsthand and notes that it is a common pattern among clients who struggle to move from over-preparation to actual market testing, leaving them wondering why their deeply felt work is not resonating as anticipated. To counteract this paralysis, the speaker advocates for a different approach characterized by working lightly and experimenting abundantly rather than seeking absolute perfection before launch. Instead of getting stuck in a loop of endless refinement driven by the need for total alignment, entrepreneurs are encouraged to release their offers quickly to gather real-world feedback. This shift from overworking to light experimentation allows solopreneurs to validate their ideas, learn what truly works with their audience, and build momentum without being held back by the fear that their work is not quite perfect enough for the world.

Solopreneurs, I like to call us all solopreneurs. Um, tell me what you think about that language. Solopreneurs who are kind of building a business that's more soulful, you might say, more aligned with like this is something I really get energy from that you know, kind of it's maybe even spiritual in nature in terms of like I'm here on earth to do something that's related to this rather than just to make money, right? So, solopreneur, um, solopreneurs tend to have this block or this I've just known it seen it over 17 years. This block where it's like because this is so authentic to me, so aligned with my calling maybe or purpose or um, sense of um, you know, this is this is a a rich work that I that's meant for me to bring out into the world. Because of that, we tend to be very way more perfectionistic than many entrepreneurs. What that means is we tend to work um, in my opinion, overwork on our web pages, our descriptions of what we do on on our um, frameworks, on our um, you know, offers. And I I admit I have sold courses over the years that have probably made you overwork on those things and I apologize. Um, I have but I keep always bringing into my courses and my clients work lightly, work lightly and experiment abundantly. So, that's the the other side of the coin. I I I I wish and this is always a You know, there's a there's an experimenting too much and and not enough groundedness and and you know, oh yeah, this is feeling really really super aligned, you know. But then our solopreneurs tend to go way on the other end of the spectrum, which is okay, whatever I put out there, it's got to be so perfectly aligned with with my whole body's, you know, intuition and it's got to be super aligned with what the feedback I'm getting from uh from everybody uh and especially Tad or whoever is the business coach at the moment. And and then I'm going to go ahead and and then I'm going to go ahead and and hire a designer, you know? And then, you know, spend all this money and time in making sure this is really presentable. And then, I'm going to put it out there with uh you know, a a signature framework webinar. Which now I have to pay money to learn and then and create and that's going to take another couple of weeks or months or whatever. And then you put it out there and then you are shocked, or at least I have been myself, uh with when I've done this many times and my clients too. Shocked that how come nobody is piling on to this, signing up left and right like my soul does. And it's it's it's it's it's genuine shock such genuine shock like, wait, what? How come it's quiet? How come I sent that email out and what's everyone thinking? Um I myself have experienced this too many times.
