Well, White Earth Nation is beginning a new chapter in leadership with three elected officials. Through a Secretary-Treasurer Jacob MacArthur, District 1 Representative Henry G. Fox, and District 2 Representative Alrick Sun Akebe. Starting new four-year terms, reporter Ryan Fleming stopped by the inauguration ceremony to see how a tradition helped mark the occasion. >> Inside Shooting Star Casino, tradition took center stage with songs, colors, and cultural traditions helping mark the occasion. For those gathered, the day was also a chance to celebrate what comes next for White Earth Nation. >> It's always a great day to have all of our tribal members, our community members gather and celebrate something positive in our community, and looking forward to working with new tribal leaders is it's a positive impact on our community. >> For the District 1 Representative, this isn't the first time stepping into the role, but beginning a second term is giving him a chance to reflect on the family legacy that helped shape his path. >> What it means to me is family. My family, you know, my father who was on, you know, tribal council back in uh late '70s, early '80s. And to me, just being here today in my father's footsteps is what really gets to my heart. >> This event was a chance to honor the moment, but also gave White Earth leaders a chance to look ahead as a celebration gave way to the responsibilities that come with the job. The ceremony may just last a day, but for White Earth Nation's newly elected leaders, it marks the start of four years of decisions, priorities, and service. >> Kind of the number one thing with me is homeless homelessness, you know, uh trying to get the people in the right direction, trying to get it trying to to it affordable, you know, for them. >> Minnesota is home to 11 federally recognized tribal nations, including White Earth Nation, which has its own elected government. As a new leader step in, council members say different voices can help move the nation forward. >> I think it's going to be positive. They each, you know, each of us has a a different perspective.
