:🧳 What I’m Packing for 17 Days in Alaska! Minimal Yet Stylish at 71 ❄️ | Cruise & Land Adventure
Watch on YouTubeVideo summary
The video features a traveler preparing for an upcoming seventeen-day journey to Alaska that combines a cruise with land adventures across Boston, Seattle, and Vancouver. Given the unpredictable weather ranging from cold conditions to potentially warmer days, the creator is carefully curating a wardrobe that balances style, comfort, and practicality while adhering to strict luggage weight limits. She explains that her itinerary includes several formal nights on the ship alongside casual excursions, requiring versatile clothing items that can transition between different settings without taking up excessive space in her carry-on suitcase and one checked bag.
For her dressy occasions, she has selected a pair of black wide-leg Athletica pants that do not wrinkle or lose their shape, making them ideal for travel. She demonstrates how these pants can be styled with various tops, including a shrug and different tank tops in black, green, and white, to create multiple looks suitable for evening events. Additionally, she considers bringing a brown and black skirt paired with a fitted top as a second formal outfit, though she remains undecided on whether the tropical vibe of some shorts options or the limited matching tops will make them practical enough for the Alaskan climate.
Beyond her formal wear, the creator packs a variety of bottoms including slim-profile black trousers, comfortable green cargo pants for warmer weather, and a pair of jeans that she has yet to finalize. She also includes workout gear, thermal layering tops for extreme cold, swimwear, and accessories like hats and gloves stored in a separate winter bag. A significant portion of the video is dedicated to her decision-making process regarding a new expandable backpack versus her current one, highlighting features like accessible front pockets for essentials and the ability to compress soft-sided luggage to maximize packing efficiency.
Ultimately, the video serves as an interactive guide where the creator seeks viewer opinions on specific items she is unsure about, such as bringing a wig to manage windy conditions under hats or swapping heavier pants for lighter alternatives. She emphasizes that while she aims for a minimal yet stylish approach, the final packing list will be refined based on community feedback and her own evolving confidence in how certain pieces will hold up during the trip. The video concludes with an invitation for viewers to share their thoughts on her outfit choices before she departs, acknowledging that her living room is currently cluttered with luggage as she finalizes her preparations.

Who
knew packing for a trip to Alaska would
be this hard? I didn't. I mean, I I
figured it would be difficult, but oh my
gosh. You know, in this packing cube,
and this is already
compressed, is just like cold weather
gear. Oh. So, if you're curious to see
what I packed, or at least what I think
I'm going to pack for our upcoming 17
day trip to Alaska. We will be going
Boston, Seattle, Vancouver for two days
in Vancouver, exploring and all that.
And then we will get on the Coral
Princess on um a inside passage land not
land cruise and land afterwards and we
have several uh port of calls and
excursions and things to do. So packing
for like all sorts of weather. Oh my
gosh. So I'm going to share that with
you. I hope you guys are interested. But
um if you are new to my channel and
you're just here to see what a real
woman is going to pack for Alaska,
welcome. Uh please consider
subscribing. Please leave me your
opinions. I'm going to show you a couple
of alternative choices of garments that
I um want to bring, but I'm not sure. So
leave me your opinion and u and just
like the video and comment and and thank
you for being part of the the community.
So stay tuned for Alaska
stuff. I'm super excited to share some
of this with you guys. And I I'm hoping
the back I'm thinking maybe I might have
to shut the shades. I I'm hoping the
background light doesn't drown out the
colors of everything that I want to show
you guys. But I am going to be bringing
basically a few different things.
There's going to be two, they call them
formal nights, but they're more dressy
nights on the cruise. And then the rest
of the nights, dinners will be sort of
like casual. Um maybe even like business
casual or something like that. No
shorts, no, you know, ripped jeans, no,
I guess t-shirts. We'll see. This is
what, you know, I'm reading and what
I've read and what some of the groups
and some folks have shared with me. I
have never been to Alaska. I have, of
course, I've been on a couple of
cruises. So, Alaska's a big one for us.
Um, so for the dressy nights, I have a
pair of black Athletica. I'm going to
hold them
up. So, these are black Athletica
widelegg pants. These are perfect for
traveling because they don't wrinkle.
They don't lose their shape. Like if
you're sitting in them for hours and
sometimes, you know, you get up all of a
sudden you see you have a knee in, you
know, you're stretched out around the
knees. Never, never, never. These are
really awesome, awesome pants. They're
expensive, but if you, you know, get on
their uh lists and you, you know, um
they have often have sales and stuff
like that. So, if you take advantage of
those sales online, it can make it way
more affordable. So, what I love about
these, they're perfect for travel, like
I said, because they have some zipped
pockets for security. I'm not really
worried about the security aspect in
Alaska, but when we go to Europe, I am.
So, the zipped back pockets and the side
pockets are really good for that for
security. But they are, I think, a solid
pants. And because the pockets are sort
of hidden, they're flush. They don't
stick out. That makes it the profile
really nice. There's no they're not
cargo pants. I have another pair that
are cargo pants that have pockets, you
know, right down the thigh. So these can
be dressed up or casual. So to me,
they're like a double duty. I also have
another pair that I may swap it out for.
They're sort of a Spanx dupe. I bought
them off of Amazon. Actually have them
on now, so I'm not going to be able to
really show them to you, but um I've
worn them a number of times. They seem
to hold their shape really good and they
have a nice profile. So, I like that,
you know,
like not all bumpy, big pockets hanging
out. So, I really like that. I may swap
them out. And the only reason I might
swap them out is because they're lighter
in weight and I am a little worried
about the weight. So these pants I've
tried on in several pictures. I'm going
to superimpose a couple of pictures here
for your opinion. The first one you're
going to see is these pants with this
pretty top. I think I shared this
before. and a black uh tank top. So, as
you can see, it gives This is what I was
thinking of wearing in one of the dressy
nights. Depending on how I fix my hair,
you know, my makeup, um the jewelry I
wear can dress this up or dress it down.
I also bought a
green. I don't know if you call it a
green, but sort of like a um and this
matches the top. This actually has this
color in it. It's probably hard to pick
up on the on the camera, but I bought
this tank just for a different look. And
I'll show you what that looks like now.
So, they're the same pants, Athletica
Wideleg Venice, and they are, you know,
the same outer top, the shrug as I call
it. Um, but two different tanks. I also
bought a white one because some people
had said, "Oh, get a white, too." So, I
had gone to one of the outlet malls in
New Hampshire and Chico had a great
sale. So, I bought picked up this color
in Chico and I thought it would be
pretty close. I picked up a white one in
Chico. The black one I already had. So,
those were the the two that I did. So,
the photos you can see the three shots
in the same jacket with the black top,
which I think is the better look for me
for the evening for the dressy event. It
kind of makes me look like I'm wearing
um a trendy jumpsuit, which you know is
all the trend right now is that the one
piece suits. So, I like that look and I
think I can really dress that up. The
green one looks really nice, too. I
really like that.
Um but maybe that's maybe for a dinner
on an other night that's sort of like
the casual but, you know, better better
dressy but not
formally. I don't know. That's what I'm
thinking. So, I have those pants and I
might swap them out with the cheaper
Span dupe from Amazon. We'll see how
they hold up. But those the both of
those pants would look the same. The
wide leg just give you a really flowy
look. I am concerned about room in my
luggage. So, that's the only reason I
would even think about swapping out for
the weight of the pants. So, the other
thing I have is the skirt. Now, this is
not new. I bought this, I think, when we
were going on our first cruise. Gosh,
I'm hoping the colors are okay. Sort of
a brown and a black. And, you know, I
call it like a ballerina type thing.
It's just a cheap Amazon skirt, elastic
waist. Um, you know, it's got a little
bit of a lining. It's not that super
wellade,
but I just like the look. However, when
I tried it on, um, I had a, you know, I
had a a bit of a problem because all my
black tops were baggy and bigger. So, I
ended up buying in, um, what is it
called? White House Black Market, also
in in the outlet mall, a a black top
that was more fitted. And and I'll show
you the picture of what that looks like
now. So, while I still feel that I'm
very hippie, you can tell by the
picture. I don't know what side it's
going to be on. Um it's more of a a
dressier look. And so if I do bring this
skirt and this top that you're seeing in
the photo and then dress it up with some
jewelry, fix my hair, that will be my
second dressy outfit for the for the
cruise. I And I I don't know if I'm
going to bring it, you know.
Um, I bought a
knitted I guess wrap
borello. Uh, I I really I like the look
of this. I I don't know.
Um, you know, I would I don't think I
would wear it with the skirt, but I'll
show you how I wore it with a black top
and my black pants just wrapped around
and tied. And I think it can just give
you, you know, again, the same pants,
right, that I wore for the for the first
evening for the dressy night. Those same
widelegg pants work perfect for that.
So, this, of course, is a color that can
go with black, you know, and a few other
colors, but it's it's kind of, I think,
limited on the amount of use, but I'm
not too sure. I just like how it does
look in that one outfit with the pants
wrapped around. It doesn't take up much
weight at all and I could also carry it
on the night that you know I'm doing
this if I'm cold if I wear this skirt. I
know. What do you think? Do you think
the skirt is okay to bring or what? I
don't know. you know. So, the other
pants and I'll I'll do the pants that I
wanted to bring is I have a I'm going to
call them sort of like a point uh pants.
You know, like when you travel, you are
always looking for material that will
hold up um that you you don't need to
wash every day. They keeps their shape
and all that. So, I bought these last
year for Germany. These are black
Athletica. I think they're Brooklyn
high-rise. I can't remember, but again,
I bought them on sale. I think these are
a size, just for reference, a size 12.
Um, and they look great. They're more of
a slimmer profile. I I'm pretty sure I
have taken a picture of of my outfit
that I was planning to wear these in or
different tops, but of course, it's
black. So, I've got the widele black and
then the slim profile black.
And the black would go with that
sweater. It would go with a multiple
different types of tops, obviously. Then
I have these sort of
green. I really like these. These are
green. Um these are more casual. I've
got the cargo. These are
um Oh god. Well, these are Athletica,
but I'm trying to think of what what
which one. But I have these both in
black and in this green color. material
is super light, very, very comfortable.
Definitely a a warmer weather pant. So,
the black ones are staying home because
I don't need another pair of black pants
and I don't want to have the cargo
pockets with me in black because I don't
think that I could get away. I wouldn't
feel comfortable on dressing night with
them. But this would be another option
for wearing beating around, you know,
just beating around the boat or going
out on the town and walking around, you
know, in Ketchan or whatever the towns
that we're going to be in. And it'll
match pretty well, you know, everything.
So, so far I've got like three pairs of
trousers. So, um I've got the black wide
angle. The wide angle, the black wide
leg. I have the
um the black straight leg and then I and
then the green ones. And then I wanted
to bring a pair of jeans. Now, I was
heming and haring. I'm not too sure.
These are sort of the loose straight leg
ones. I don't want the skinny jeans, but
um I was also looking at the widelegg
jeans. Some of the widelegg jeans look
really good, but some of them almost can
look sloppy on me if they stretch out.
So, I have to be really careful. So, I
tried on a pair the other day. They were
tight on the waist, but I think that
they would loosen up, you know, and so
that was something I was thinking about,
but I didn't buy any. But, so I wanted
to bring a pair of jeans because even in
Germany, that was actually the pant I
wore the most out and exploring was a
pair of jeans.
So, I don't know. You know, we'll see.
That is that was what we were what we
were thinking, you know, I was thinking
of packing for bottoms other than a pair
of
joggers. And again, you know, these are
just joggers, so these would be
something I could wear, you know, to the
fitness center, walking around the, you
know, the ship, um, hotel, whatever. I
have two pairs, but I'm most likely not
going to bring this grayish colored
pair. And I think I'll probably just
stick with the black. Um, I'm not sure
yet, but this would be my very casual,
even lounge around in my cabin type of,
you know, pant. So, that was my bottoms.
Then I thought, you know, on top of
that, I needed to have a couple of pair
of like shorter pants, if you want to
call it that. So, here's uh I'm going to
bring two of these three. Yeah, I'm
going to bring two of these three. I
really like this one. I bought this in
Florida, but I think this is too
tropical. As much as I like it, and I
love the colors and I can match it with
a lot of my tops, I just think it's too
tropical. I do love the skirt because
then you have your shorts underneath it
basically. I love that look. um or I
just love that style because to me that
works perfectly. As much as I love this
one, I'm pretty sure it's not going to
not going to work. So, this is the
choice of what I will most likely bring.
It's blue. It's the same thing. It's got
a couple of pockets. It's got the
little, you know, built-in shorts
underneath it. And it would match with
just a few of my tops. I could wear it
with the black. I could wear it with the
white. Um, but I could and I don't have
this color green top in sleeves. Um, but
that that would be it. It would be a
more limited match because of the blue.
So, you know, I don't know. Then I have
my trusty black one. This one is a for
sure. So, I'm not too sure. I mean, my
battery died, so I had to go change it.
But I I still love this skirt, but I
just don't have enough matching tops for
it. And the odds of us having weather
that is going to be super warm, I think,
is going to be pretty slim. So, I'm
bringing three short sleeve tops, as you
can see them right here. And um none of
them are new. I believe Loft I believe
Old Navy last
year. So those are my three short sleeve
tops that I can wear with my jeans. I
can wear with my my black pants. Um
limited on my green pants down here.
These are the
three long sleeve tops that I thought I
would bring. This top one is a kind of a
a peachy color. Then I have a blue. And
then I have a white long sleeve. And my
regular
layer tops, meaning that they are uh
marino wool, one of them. They're
thermal. They're they're your layer top
for really cold weather. Um that you
could put on. They're more like a
t-shirt style top, which is fine. I have
in here my workout gear if I go to the
gym or I want to uh walk around the pool
deck. I have a couple of um I actually
only have one black legging type jogger
pants that I can wear in here. And then
I have the two tops, the green and the
yellow. They're Colombia. And then I
have a couple of socks. So this would be
something I would go and wear to the gym
or um on a nice day along the deck. This
is my bathing suit. In here I have two
bathing suit and bathing suit cover up.
Whether or not I use that or not, I
don't know yet, but it's definitely
coming. And um if I can find another
squirt, squirt, however you pronounce
it, that is better than that matches
more, I will. I have a few others, but
they're in the motor home. So, I have to
really take a look at them. Luggage is
going to be limited to this small
carry-on rollon that I have. And then
Jay has reluctantly agreed to check a
bag. So I took one of our bigger bags
down from the attic. And I figured this
is where our winter gear can go in. You
know, he's got a jacket, I've got a
jacket, etc. Big heavy jacket. We have
wool hats, gloves, and all that stuff.
So, and then umbrellas and you know,
things like binoculars, never mind
makeup, skin care, but I have that. So,
yeah. I don't know. What do you think?
So,
bought a new personal item
backpack. I may still return it. I have
um I had been reading and uh listening
to people and watching videos. A lot of
people have been talking about the bag
smart backpack. I want something that I
can fit under the seat in front of me
and fill bigger if I need, right?
because I'm always thinking if on the
way home I have so much stuff that I
check my roll on as well as the one big
bag that we have that I want to have the
ability to be able to enlarge this and
it does expand a little bit. It holds a
real lot. But I like the newer bag smart
design slightly better than the older
one. The newer one, I think why I like
it better is the little thing on the
top, which is what I think is the nuts
on this. The newer one, I think it's a
little bit more spacious and it has like
I think little pockets here. So, when
you put this under and you just want to
grab something, you don't want to pull
the whole bag out. So, those little
essentials, your AirPods, um you know,
little things like you want to have on
the plane with you, lip gloss, that kind
of stuff. Easy to get at it here. Of
course, you can always open up the whole
backpack and, you know, pull everything
out and do that, but you know, I didn't
want to have to do that. And very few
backpacks actually have that as a
feature. So, this actually will hold
quite a bit, but the newer one expands a
little bit more. So, you can keep it
small because it's soft. It's not um
hardsided that you can only, you know,
make it um like the hard side ones, they
they are the size they are. You can make
them bigger, but you can't get any
smaller. The soft side ones, you have
the ability to pack way less and
compress it more and squish it into
those spots, right, that you want to put
it in. So, I looked at the new one
coming out and I may still, although the
clock is ticking, I don't know if I
would get it in time. If I can find the
new one, which you have to order it
online, I may still order it because I
just think I would like that better. And
I may return this one. I don't know. But
it actually does hold a whole lot. So,
um, yeah, I've got I've got a packing
cube for my gym gear that I showed you.
Just very minimal. Those will be
perfect. So, the decision I'm making is
going to be on my joggers. Do I bring
the gray slate jogger? Um, do I bother
with the white with the white um top as
far as you know the tank top, the white
tank top that I bought at Chico's, do I
bother bringing this? It had a great
sale. So, you know, it's really pretty.
Awesome. If you know Chico's quality,
it's it's great for travelers especially
in my opinion because their their
material is so nice. But do I bother
bringing this? Will I wear this? I like
this very much with the black top and
also with the the green
one, you know. Um those are the two that
I really really like, you know, u this
combo with. I don't think I would wear
it with the white one. The only thing I
could potentially see myself wearing
this white one with is potentially maybe
this,
but it's not floating my boat. So, I
don't I really don't know. And I'm still
on the fence about bringing that skirt
because I could I have another um
another
um shrug burll and it's it's um it's in
the motor home. Otherwise, I would show
it to you. It's a really It's a really
pretty pretty like greenish color. And I
could bluish color blue. I could wear
that with the black top and the black
pants on the other dressing night too.
And that would to me I would look it
would be more slimming. But I also like
the idea of the skirt, you know. Um what
do you guys think? You know, I I could
fit them in the in the suitcase,
especially now that Jay's agreed to have
the bigger suitcase with
me, but I'm just not going to go to
Alaska and potentially freeze my buns
off. No, not after this cold winter
we've had. So, that that's it for me um
at this video. Anyways, I know this is
super long. Thank you for those of you
that hung in. Please give me your
opinion. Let me know. you know, the
fancy blue shrug for the for the dressy
night. Do you like it better in the all
black underneath or did you like it with
the sort of green color underneath? Um,
I think I'm going to bring both of
those. But what was your preference? I
think my preference for the dressy one
would have been the black. And then let
me know about the skirt because I really
don't
know whether I mean I like it.
I like it, but I don't I don't know. I'm
on the fence. I would do that with a
black top as in that photo. So, anyways,
as I pair down, as I make other
decisions, I'll certainly update as you
know, before we go because we have a bit
of time yet, but my living room is a
total disaster with luggage everywhere.
Um, and you know, I still have to do my
toiletries, right, and my makeup. I went
to the mall and I went to the uh Lancome
counter and I asked them to give me to
color match me and to give me a couple
of samples of two different foundations
they have and um and so they did. So I
have two little samples of Lancome. I'm
going to bring that with me. Um I love
doing that for travel. When we were in
Europe for 19 days, I didn't even go
through one of them. You know, that's
how little foundation I wore. And and
then I'm debating on my hair. I'm
debating on a wig. I I'm thinking
because we're going to be windy, I'm
going to be wearing a lot of hats that
this is the wig I'm going to probably
bring because it it's the closest match
to my hair color. Of course, I don't
have this kind of volume or this length.
But if I'm going to be under a hat most
of the days
outside, who's going to know, right? And
do I really care? And when I come in, if
I put this on for dinner or for
gallivanting or just enjoying myself, I
know I'll feel better, you know, because
I'm not going to want to wash my hair,
blow dry my hair every single day or
twice a day. Um, so yeah, so I'm on the
fence, but let me know what you guys
think. Thanks so much for hanging in
there. Bye-bye, guys.
