Health and safety remain a priority given the current circulation levels of COVID-19, prompting organizers to advise attendees to wear masks in crowded spaces and practice good hygiene. While surgical masks are available at the front desk and hand sanitizers are placed in public areas, the supply of FFP masks and self-tests is limited due to procurement challenges. To maintain air quality in the older building with suboptimal ventilation, CO2 meters are installed in each room to monitor levels, and volunteers have been assigned to patrol bathrooms to ensure they are well-stocked with paper towels and maintained properly. The team emphasizes that during this holiday weekend, professional cleaning services are unavailable, so attendees are asked to be mindful of the facilities and report any missing supplies or issues to the front desk immediately.
The overarching goal of DebConf 25 is to foster a strong sense of community through active participation in talks, workshops, and social gatherings. Organizers encourage everyone to step out of their comfort zones, ask meaningful questions, and engage with as many people as possible during this week-long event. The conference is presented as a collective effort involving the original local team, current volunteers, and the broader Debian project, highlighting the dedication required to run such a large-scale gathering. I'm Anton Gladki and I will be a talk
master for uh this talk and this session
in this room. Uh I I'm
my pleasure is to introduce the first
talk uh and it will be done by Arupa
Santiago Benjamin and Nicola with a
depcon 25 welcoming talk.

So guys the stage is yours.
Everybody, everybody's supposed to speak
English, isn't it? So, on behalf of the
organization team, it's a pleasure for
me to welcome you to the 26th version of
the DevCom community conference.
Um, so yeah, welcome to Britany or
welcome to France, sorry.
>> But first before beginning, uh, we would
like to thank our sponsors. As you know,
the schedule is pretty tight, so please
hold the applauses until the end of the
sponsors. Uh, this year we have five

So you probably know we are in the IMT
Atlantic uh campus of breast and we are
in this beautiful corner of the west far
to France. As you can see we are just
next to the Atlantic Ocean
and
we have several spaces available for us.
Three uh rooms with video coverage
median where we are right now. Two
amphitheaters the grandf and petit uh
which are just next door above room
which is BO3035.
This doesn't have video uh coverage.

Two hack labs. Uh the silent hack lab is
upstairs and the noisy hack lab is on
this semi level. There is an error here
a typo. the the actual number of the the
second high club is BO3133.
It will be easy to find anyway. And you
probably passed by the SV which is a
place where all the round tables.
Well, regarding food um for most of the
lunches uh during weekdays except for
today it's a national holiday. Uh you
will be eating at the raq the st the
restaurant associative the carnival
which is an association that provides
catering for the school. Um for two
events the cheese and wine uh dinner and
the conference dinner will be eating
outside in the for dele and for all the
other meals uh it will happen at sravi.
>> So uh we all agreed to abide by a code
of conduct. Uh there's a link uh if
you've forgotten uh what you've signed
up for and the community team can be

Uh a lot I think most of the members of
the community team are on site. Can you

We received a huge amount of proposals
2333
on in total. We were able to accept 160.
This year we're introducing the academic
track which is of course new. This will
happen Tuesday tomorrow in Petitani.
This afternoon we will have the job fair
and probably you know but just in case
the schedule is available on the defcon
website
and on top of the schedule we have a
bunch of scheduled activities as well.
Uh the big one uh we're in France so we
are having a cheese and wine party. Uh I
hope many of you have brought stuff for
the cheese and wine party to be shared.
Uh I've seen a lot of uh stuff on the
wiki. Please add your stuff on the wiki
so that we have [snorts] labels that we
can print and that are readable for
everyone. Uh yeah, more information
about coordination uh at the of the
cheese and wine party is available on
the wiki. There will be announcements by
email as well. Uh yeah, and please uh
please volunteer to help the cheese
team.
We also have a day trip. Um we have
unfortunately we're booked out for the
Ashant day trip. So uh lighouses will
have to be arranged on shore, but we
have that as well. Uh there's still
space for the hikes and for the
Oanopolis visit. Uh Oenopolis is one of
the biggest uh marine preservation
aquariums in Europe. So it's uh it's
well worth a visit if you still want to
sign up. It's possible.

developer from India. So many of you
might be wondering how I'm here in local
team for France. I'll speak about that
in a moment. But yeah, how to help? How
to get help in Devcon here. So our main
channel is IC in uh the channel is
#deepconf. So if you're a person who
don't like IRC which is very rare in
Debian but you can also use mailing list
like DEPCON announce is a mailing list
to share the announcements for Debian.
So DEP conf so you can watch out for the
mails from there which includes daily
announcements and you will get a very uh
necessary information from there. So
please keep a watch out for those mails
and DEPCON discuss is a place where you
can share the information and ask for
information from other DEPCON attendees.
So there is also a friend phone number
uh which is also available on signal and
there is also XMPPP account. So you can
uh chat with them and you can get help
all the help from them there. And if
you're a person who would like to help
us like volunteers we need volunteers.
So this is the website and you can find
out the volunteer task list over there
and you can sign up for them if you have
time and energy for uh helping us. So we
would like to have like this is a
volunteer effort and this is part of the
Debian. So we would like to have all of
you involved in this stepcon as well as
how I got involved. It's all because of
this man [laughter]
like I just asked him how I I can help
him and then I just got dragged into the

reminder that uh the COVID uh
circulation levels are pretty high. So
uh please do mask up in crowded spaces.
Uh we are doing our best to try and keep
the air quality okay but this is an old
building and ventilation is crap. So
please yeah please take care of one
another and yeah if you have COVID
please selfisolate.
Yeah, there are CO meters in in each
room. Uh, I try to take the the I tried
to set the alarm to to let us know when
when the levels are too high, but yeah,
it should be uh for everybody.
>> Uh, where can I find the masks? Are they
supplied or I have to find them myself?
>> There are some surgical masks at front
desk. We haven't been able to procure uh
big quantities of FFP masks.
Unfortunately, we've been struggling to
find self tests as well. So, there are
very limited amounts of them at front
desk. [snorts] We are getting more
tomorrow. Uh yes, we're trying our best,
but it's been a pain in the ass.
>> Yeah, we'll come to France,
unfortunately.

>> regarding that? There are hand
sanitizers in some public spaces. Don't
hesitate to to use them when grabbing
before grabbing food. It's a good idea.

>> Regarding this, I did not found any
towel in the bathrooms. Please make sure
that they are equipped well with this as
well.
>> Yeah, we've uh we've added volunteer
shifts to go around the bathrooms and
make sure that everything is provided.
Uh as this is a holiday weekend, we
don't have any professional cleaning
happening this weekend. So, we've had
volunteers already mop up the toilets uh
yesterday and they're going to do that
again today. So, please be mindful of
the state of the toilets when you leave
them.
