Video summary

The Sports Roundup episode begins with a lively studio discussion featuring hosts James John, Nika Geek, Osano, and Martin Kaiser, who gather to review the weekend's major sporting events. A significant portion of the conversation is dedicated to the Kenya Premier League, specifically the Super Cup clash between Gor Mahia and Tuska FC. The match ended in a surprising 3-1 victory for Gor Mahia, which upset many predictions given Tuska's strong squad and recent form. While the hosts acknowledge Gor Mahia's win as a positive sign for their title defense, they also express disappointment regarding Tuska's performance and behavior after the loss, noting that the team underperformed despite having key players available. Beyond the Super Cup, the discussion delves into serious concerns surrounding fan conduct and security at Kenyan football matches. The hosts address recent incidents of violence between supporters, such as those involving Gor Mahia fans, and criticize the lack of proper crowd management by authorities. They highlight legislative efforts, including a bill introduced by parliamentarian Irene Maka to regulate betting influences on fan behavior, but emphasize that more stringent measures are needed from the Football Kenya Federation (FKF). The panel agrees that while the sport is inherently emotional, allowing chaos to disrupt matches gives a bad image to the country, especially as Kenya prepares to host the AFCON tournament. Consequently, they call for better security training and stricter enforcement of rules to ensure safety for fans and journalists alike. The conversation also covers administrative conflicts delaying the start of the new league season, particularly involving Kio Bank Sharks and Mombasa United. The dispute centers on whether relegated teams should play in a playoff or move directly to the National Super League (NSL) under the new 2025 Act. The hosts argue that forcing a playoff after a long season of travel is bureaucratic nonsense and that the federation should simply enforce the rules already established before the season began. Additionally, the show touches on youth development, praising the FKF's U-20 team for winning 43 trophies and expressing optimism about the future generation of Kenyan footballers preparing for upcoming qualifiers, despite some skepticism regarding recent coaching changes in the under-20 squad. Finally, the program shifts focus to the English Premier League, analyzing Manchester United's surprising 2-0 defeat to Manchester City and Arsenal's dominant 3-0 win over Coventry City. The hosts discuss the tactical challenges facing Erik ten Hag at Old Trafford, questioning his decision to bench in-form players like Bruno Fernandes and Rasmus Højlund against a weaker opponent. In contrast, Mikel Arteta's Arsenal are praised for their chemistry and defensive solidity, though suggestions are made that they could strengthen their squad with a proper winger and center forward to compete across all competitions. The episode concludes with a rapid recap of other weekend results, including Chelsea's victory over Fulham, Liverpool's draw with Newcastle, and Brighton's thrashing of Aston Villa, setting the stage for the upcoming fixtures.

What has been trending throughout the weekend and also part of of the weekday? What what games really made headlines out there? Talking about games, of course, you have to talk about Gormma versus Taska again that made a lot of headlines during the weekend after the Super Cup. But you get to know more about that. Not forgetting about a very own that is that is the Kenya Premier League. not really starting not not really deciding on which day to start because of the some of the issues that has been going on with Kesak still still debating on whether to go to the NSL or they want to force their issues all the way to stay at the Kenya Premier League and for that and many more make sure you stay tuned cuz there's a lot to debunk on cuz also the English Premier League is officially back with games that were played during the weekend. So we'll be looking at some of the games that will be played during the weekend and also some of the games that will be played this weekend as well. So, make sure you don't miss that conversation. So, but for now, I'm just going to introduce the people I'm with in the studio. My good name first is James John. On social media, you can find me at James. Make sure you go to our social media cuz you have asked us question there. [laughter] few comments but for now let me introduce the people I'm with on my right of course I have one and only Nika Gif in the building of course very happy after the performance of the weekend from uh from his team then I have Osano with me also very happy I think the gang is very happy cuz Osano and Martin Kaiser of course very happy as well after their comeback but did they really support Enzo Mesa for this head coach thing but I just want to start with the geek maybe how was your weekend apart from Arsenal winning yet again a 3-0 Yeah, my name is Nik. Uh, I had a good weekend and it was a weekend full of football activities and uh the beautiful thing that the team that I I support Arsenal has started the league where they left as the defending champions. So that's a good sign that at least we are going to compete this season. uh disappointing bit is uh when God was being hammered by Tusca and I think we are overriding the game. >> So and also the incidences that features were also disappointing. >> So we we'll also look at other sporting activities that took place during the weekend but generally we have started started my week so well >> and uh that's something that I thank God for. you expect more from Arsenal and also from Mikeetta. But for you Osano, maybe what can you say about the weekend? Was it a lovely or let's say a little bit tense? But I think I believe we had some little bit of joy after what we saw Taska do to >> Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. I think I had a very fantastic weekend, you know, witnessing Gaya being trashed. Was it three goals to one >> in that FK Super Cup? >> Although a little bit disappointed with the way they behaved after losing that match. And also at Kendra I think I had also enjoyabes get his first win as Manchester City head coach >> although we know but at least we made a comeback >> and we're waiting to see the next few matches [laughter] maybe after a while missing from the show you're back now. What can you say about the experience that you have had and what are you expecting maybe for this new season? >> Thank you Martin. >> You love the [clears throat] new stadium that you've got. [laughter] But I hope I think one month football [clears throat] [laughter] I'm coming back is number 10. So, I'm just happy [laughter] including life easy [laughter] get the story behind the camera. But anyway, we have received the thank you so much for for watching this what you do for them to watch. But for now, let's start with the business. of course talking about the the the super cup that went on Gormaya versus Taska. Before we get into the fighting part, let's get to the football in Patag maybe talk about how the game was what really made that is Julian Met's team to maybe thrash you three goals which was unexpected. Remember the last time we were here we predicted Gaya to have a smooth ride compared to what they they they did in the Sakafa. We thought they were going to bring this cup at home. >> Yeah. So uh I think uh from within the first 15 minutes you could tell that God was going to lose that that that tournament. You know >> you know when you are predicting football predict with the >> with the before the coach even >> shows his his lineup. >> Okay let me let me just cut you cut you short. Maybe get Osano first maybe tell tell us I think you are a big supporter of Tuska because of I think you supported Taska only because of Gmaya is not really your favorite but what can you say about the game before we get into the fight? First of all, for me, I think I think Gmaya went to this match while underating Taska FC. >> Mhm. >> Because the kind of signings these guys [clears throat] have made in this transfer window, >> I was expecting them in preparation will be facing Egyptians giants pyramids in the next few weeks in the Cup Champions League. So expecting this match with a lot of seriousness at least being three goals to one I think for me that mentality this is our yeah we are going to win this match very easily but I think it is what it is we saw what happened in the field and right now I think Charles Aonor the mistakes that Taska exposed in his team and he he needs to correct before this is one of the best teams in Africa. >> Yeah. Yeah. So I think that is what I think back to back losing the final just like the English community. Yes. But I think that's why they went wrong. Maybe Martin. What can you say about the game so far? Did play good better football maybe compared to what offered in the field? I think in the first Sharif seasoning chances. So I think So I'm happy. [laughter] So now maybe I'm expecting change. So I'm expecting some I'm expecting a big change. Yeah. >> Come get that look [clears throat] at what really happened in the Kenya Premier League. But let's talk about Geek. Let's come back to you. Maybe give us the point that you given and maybe talk about on Sunday remember Sunday you're facing pyramids. Are you going the same strategy that you went on with facing task? Uh uh I I think if you check at even the lineup on that Sunday within 15 minutes you could tell that uh there is high likelihood that Taska is going to win. >> Mhm. >> Because even from keeper we didn't start with our keeper number one. >> Mhm. >> Even if you look at the the the striker on form Paul was on the bench. So uh I you can't understand what the coach was trying to do because key players were benched and this is a cup and you know right now if you look at a team like go >> there is a lot of expectation from the fun. So every >> competition is so emotive. So those are some of the things. So I I I usually love coaches like Mourinho because once he establish his past 11 >> that's what he goes with to face every competition. But ao sometimes is doing trials and error because like somebody like the guy has never started so many matches but you could see him. >> So with him and other players they were like somehow liability to the team >> and Taska also just won it. I think also the the keeper we got from FC Leopard you know I'm so [laughter] I'm so surprised today that has run away from FC Leopard [clears throat] and now he's supporting the same [laughter] with with Martina from supporting I think I think we we just need to stand with our teams [laughter] and and support them whether so as as toigua so [laughter] that's that's a fact and we we have to just find a way of how to now correct the mistakes and the coach has to be serious with the things he's doing he should not play with our emotions [laughter] by just bring some some players who have never played >> on sixth Sunday remember you are at N stadium you are going to host a pyramids remember for the C champions league is going to start with the with the big match let's say one of the strongest side remember these are finalist you're going to face so what can you say the preparation that maybe needs to do apart from now trial and error maybe what else do you need to improve on >> uh the team is simple he had his past 11 which was train is let him just start that that team. The good thing the the match will be played at >> N. M so and with the golf [laughter] it will be upon him now to either start you know whether start the right team or >> or or or or you will just have some some some of the questions also to answer to the fans you know [clears throat] you know you know the fans are so emotive they know that somebody like polo c is in form so >> so you should start >> the coach will not have any reason to bind such such a player and also we expect our keeper I want to start in that [laughter] in that goal. >> So, uh he's I I I can tell you that from what he saw, >> he's not going to do trials and error with Goro anymore. >> Mhm. Now, coming to your son, maybe talk about what you saw after the game. Of course, fans fighting. Is it something that you should be proud of or is something we should rebook as even waiting waiting now for the new season going? For me, for me, I think I think I think in our football this is not the first time. Remember last season the same thing happened during the match against what happened last weekend. I think. So I think we should change that behavior for example. I think it's not a good very good example share your thoughts on What really happened after the game for a long time and [laughter] I think it's a culture that has >> [laughter] >> culture. [laughter] I think more than 50 years. happen. >> Yeah, there's a lot to work on. Now, Nick, before you even get to to see what really happened in the Kenya Premier League, why is not really starting? Maybe you can share your thoughts as a goer fans. Is this something that you like to see when your team loses? Maybe the fans get over eaten, they get um get overtempered and they go to the the opposition fans and cause chaos. >> You know, you know, in every sporting activity because I I think most of us have also played football here. >> Mhm. >> I remember even when we used to do sports in high school >> sometimes. [laughter] So generally that one just shows that soccer is a very emotive emotive game. >> That's why you find there is a lot of rules that are being implemented worldwide to try to to manage those emotions. So like if you look at the even the bill that was taken by to the parliament by honorable Irene Maka which which we also congratulate her for that >> trying to c things like betting you know you know some of these things like when maybe a team loses because of betting element >> it will it will expose the the emotions of the fans. So if you look at the letter that was done by the FKF to the response, >> there are so many things that have been mentioned that are being investigated including the security. Is it do do we have a proper security that are properly trained to manage crowds >> because uh the issues of uh these things they have happened even before. I remember there is a time God had a game versus Shabana. Yeah. >> In Kissi there were also these issues. So even as I as we move because our our sport is growing and we can't do away with the funds by the way because the funds has to be there. So but do we have every proper channel to manage all this because if you compare even the years before these things used to be so so chaotic but the the FKF have tried to to at least manage some of these uh incidences and we we thank them for that. But I think based on what happened last weekend, there must be other stringent measures that can be taken so that such things should not occur again because it gives us it gives us a a bad picture. >> Then two also uh sports I believe that is something that you should be able to watch even with your younger child. But if you find yourself that you fear going to the ground with a minor being that any time >> so those things should not be there. So we we just need to give FKF some time so that they can come up with more stringent measures >> that can c the funds because if it is the fans then if it is like Nick as a fan of God we should do things that happens in Europe. Nick should be banned completely from attending any footballing match. if if that's the case. >> So I believe that we'll grow out of these issues as we move along. >> I think the point is [clears throat] we still we make the rules and stick to the rules and also implement the rules. I'm talking about [laughter] some matters very seriously. Yeah, I remember I remember even the letter that FKF did after the match. They said no use of tear gas in case of football [laughter] just just to add on something that was also disappointing is how even the our our security system mishandled the journalist at that time. So it it was also a bad picture. So I think uh there is a lot of work that needs to be done. So that at least as we are going to host >> AFCON our system should be more professionals and we should see how to handle a number of things. >> Yeah. >> And let's let's say hope for the best of course FKF now being in the the position to to implement some of these things. Yes. It's Kenya we know we can be stubborn. Some of the funds can be stable but when you start implementing one by one I think it will come to a point where it will work. Now talking about FKF of course we are very anticipating for the league to start this weekend but sadly uh it has been delayed yet again maybe come to you maybe talk about what's really happening remember there's a conflict with Kobang Sharks who are supposed to be relegated right now but they are they are sticking more on the 29 act which supports a playoff between the third place and also the the the the number 16 is number 16 or number 17 number 17 of of the Kenya Premier League. So they want the playoff to be done not really go with the new with the new act of25 which supports like you go straight to the national I think for me for me I think sometimes this is the reason I think they finished that was it Yes, both teams had their season these guys underperformed and they knew at the end of the season this is what. So I think I think for me again they knew what bottom. So I think but also I think some teams I think we are not going down but these things of course all the teams have prepared well we have Bmet of course want to show what they can do This new season I've had palms you talk about lot then Shabban of course you're also preparing well but the delay of the season to start what does it mean more so to the fans I think uh training I think to do something. Now Nick coming to you maybe say what can FKF do? We have said about rules rules this and rules that. Maybe what can federation do about this uh conflict that is gone? Uh the the the conflict is in uh it is in court because uh the the dispute resolution committee made their ruling >> that when you when you >> you know sorry to say this that the owners of Kio Banks are the people who came up with some of these things that absolutely doesn't make sense >> because uh how do you expect somebody to play over 30 matches >> in NSLh M >> then you want to determine this thing by a playoff after after spending moving across country playing over 30 matches. So those things doesn't make sense. This is just a bureaucracy. These are some of the things that I think even the our courts and FA FKF >> they just have to stamp the authority and say man >> these are the rules. These are how things are done. In fact to them sometimes you can be even dictator they should just set a date and league to start. So when the league is on because they are wasting other people's time like right now they want to play against United they are wasting those people's time those people earn their promotion >> fair and square >> so it is just them to go to play that player But of course the rules are there. We had decided before the league started. We are going with the 2025 act. That's what we decided. So if your team is already done for you go and play in the national league then you see if you can get promoted yet again. So it's for you to fight show what fighting spirit that you have. But of course they have lost some of their best players. Of course they are even their top scorer was sold. So nothing much for them. But we can we'll see what the court will do. I think it will go to the favorites of Mombasa United. But away from that, of course, we have to congratulate a very young young kids from FIA who went on to win it in general getting a total of 43 trophies. So, congratulation to them. But I just want now to look at some of the uh some of the preparation for the under 20 that is under 20 qualifiers preparation. We had some uh some pickings of course Martin can get us through maybe Angela and Adrian. What does it mean maybe for the next generation? I think the future is bright. Sports Academy. I think first 11 League. So the future is brighter. That's what I know. So I'm just hoping for the best from the boys. >> Yeah. >> And looking also about the preparation of course maybe you can tell us what do you expect from the boys in these preparations going on. I think I think big difference to the boy kind of players they called right now I think over the preseason Valencia the first team on the other Adren. So I think the future is bright as Martin has said and we really hoping for the best. >> Of course want to see for the best from this label selection for the under 20 AFCON qualifiers that are going to be played from next month. So we want to see what these these talents these young talents can do. But a from that we want to look at another qualifiers. Of course we have Kenya police bullets fighting to to get a chance. Of course they have gotten a chance in the K Champions League. Maybe talk about the game that they played. uh the the ongoing SEAFA qualifiers that are going on uh the the the teams are uh are are properly prepared and I think uh if if you look at Kenya police >> Mhm. >> the they are one of the best uh uh organized uh girls team which which which we can uh which we can we can refer to in this country among other teams that are also trying. Mhm. >> So we just hope that these people they will perform. Uh though I'm I'm a bit uh I'm I'm a bit skeptical with this SEAFA because of the way some of the things has has happened even including the under 20 because uh uh the the squad has been selected but uh the time the squad was being released it is when also the coach was also being released. I don't know whether we we we could see that. So So who selected the players? >> Those are some of the things that I was asking myself because when the squad was being announced was when the the the coach at the technical bench was also uh was also brought to [snorts] [laughter] brought to to li. So uh anyway the the only hope I have that there are players we know >> for under 20 there there are players that are followed for some time people like >> in Simil to me last games >> as a as a top striker last year the the goalkeeper for Highway Mushiri we have seen him there >> uh and and many others we we have seen them so so we just hope that there was no major biasness where somebody says that Mhm. >> But uh let's see [music] how will go. So I'm I'm I'm I'm yet to to think about several stuff based on the way the way things happened. >> Mhm. So we want to see the best. But now because of time, let's switch gears really quickly. Let's talk about now what's happening in the English Premier League. Of course, every team started their game, their first game, Manchester United not that convincing or maybe can share some light on what what really happened against City. We anticipated maybe Manchester Manchester United to have a smooth game against City. Yeah, it was a surprise for me although [clears throat] again it was a surprise they back to the top flight and also I think it's only you know but again you saw what happened and I think Carrick has a lot of work to do. You remember last season only in the league in the Premier League and now this season the Champions League and these other cups. So I think they have a lot to do and they need to improve their defense what really happened and this other guy. [laughter] So I think they have a lot to do and >> we have seen the the the UFA Champions League of course they have removed the four ports of course Manchester United in the in the port number two. What can you say in the preparation for the Champions League and also for the league as well and also some of the domestic cups? What do you think Manchester United should do that? >> I think what they will do just to improve the school because December this is the first time the the league face. They've never been there. This is the first time. So I think this is the kind of play and even the league these guys be very can talk about Manchester City really quickly with Is that convincing for you or you need to do something else? He's taken from somebody first. So I think I think 8 days at least So I think within the first few weeks >> maybe coming to you really quickly in just a minute talk about Arsenal. What are you seeing? What are you hiding maybe for this new season? >> Yeah, Arsenal just needs to to bring in a proper winger >> uh and also maybe a center forward and release the players that they need to release. But uh the remaining sections of the team goalkeeping, defense everything is set and the and and the team has u there is proper understanding. >> Mhm. >> Uh there is a chemistry in that team and u as we just want a teta to >> to show us what is capable of doing because we have really trusted the process for so long. So we just want to defend that league back to back at the same time we should just go for each and every competition. So as all we are good and uh and and I I like I like because sometimes he goes with >> with what he has planned compared to like the case of Manchester. Manchester doesn't need to buy any any player. Manchester had every player but I don't know why why Carrick faced >> Hal City with five defenders yet you are benched you are benched everyone who can give you goals. So I I I don't know but but there is a problem with Manchester that these coaches perform when they are still they have not been given the job. >> They should start paying these coaches per day. But anyway we want to see what these teams can do. Of course Fulham played against Chelsea. Chelsea getting a 3-2 win. Newcastle 22 draw with Liverpool. Then Brighton Aston Villa. Brighton thrashing Aston Villa four goals to zero. Then Man City getting a late win against Bournemouth. Then Brenford of course beating Tottenham three goals to zero. Then we had Everton against Crystal Palace. Everton beating Crystal Palace two goals to zero. Three switch against Sunderland. IPS beating Sunderland two goals to one. Then not Forest against Le. Le getting the win over Not Forest. Al City beating Manchester United two goals to zero. Then Arsenal beating Coventry on Friday three goals to zero. That was much of it. Want to see this maybe this weekend what will happen. But for now, let's give them a chance maybe to sal quickly and let me share maybe where they can find you on your social media. Let's start with you. >> You'll find me at Nika Nika Geek, Facebook, Age Geek Jr. Instagram, Age Geek Jun, Twitter. >> So, big up to to my fans from Assemble Republic. the show and so we love you so much [music] guys and may you continue to support this show as we move along. >> Maybe come to you. >> Yes.
