You know what I think is wrong about movies nowadays? And I'm always I'm a old hag that keeps saying this in every single movie I watch. I think they rush it too much in that first initial montage scene. It's almost too fast and they don't let it linger to tell the story. Cuz I think the opening credit montage is great aesthetic-wise, but I think it's such a purposeful way to tell and set up a story. And I think when you rush through that, you lose a lot of its story-building like mechanisms. That defense is wrong. >> Ladies and gentlemen, Elle Woods. >> I just love how these movies like truly do inspire like young women to tackle different careers that they think that they can't due to whatever misogyny they face in the world. I think it's actually such a cool butterfly effect that it creates. I mean, not a butterfly effect, a direct effect that it creates on young women. >> On our very first day at Harvard, a very wise professor quoted Aristotle. The law is reason free from passion. No offense to Aristotle. But in my three years at Harvard, I have come to find that passion is a key ingredient to the study and practice of law. >> Even though you think it's a silly movie, it's like it really does impact so many young women and people in general to go and chase their dreams or inspire them that it is not as intimidating or as boring as you think it is. It can be quite thrilling and exhilarating for you to do, you know? I think that's actually such a cool part of these movies. Not just like women can do hard things, but also the fact that it changes your what law and and being a lawyer can be, you know, for people. >> Congratulations, class of 2004. We did it! >> Cuz if you think about it, Elle Woods doesn't have this major character change without the movie. She still has a lot of her fundamental parts of her from the beginning of the movie to the end of the movie. Vivian dumped Warner. She and Elle are best friends and I've always said that. Warner graduated without honors, without a girlfriend, and without any job offers. That's what I said. Paulette married the US UPS guy, no name. They are expecting their first child, a daughter to be named Elle. Emmett quit Callahan's firm and opened his own practice. He and Elle have been dating for the past 2 years. Cuz it's I love that in this she doesn't learn to be a good person, right? She doesn't learn to be kind in the movie, which I think you kind of think it is based off of like the uh pillars of the movie, like kind of like this you know foundation of it. And by the looks of it, you think it's going to be about her becoming a good person and realizing, you know, to be kind. But she's really the kindest soul through the movie and uh evokes it to other people to be kind, and I think that's a really cool aspect of the movie is her impact on the people around her and not their impact on her. Harvard didn't humble her. She almost humbled Harvard, and I think that's like a really cool structure of the movie that flips the script on its head, right? It's not so stereotypical, and I think that's why this movie stands the test of time because it it really does evoke so many different different amazing qualities of the movie that I think it displays, right? Not only it it's empowering to women to, you know, tackle something bigger than life and and to not let people's expectations of you hold you down. But then it also has this really cool effect that as much as Harvard and this prestigious law school impacted Elle's life to do something good, she also impacted them and showed them that, you know, there was different ways to approach things within a case, but also a certain kindness that was to be extended within that. And it didn't have to be so cutthroat to make it to the top. And I think that is a really amazing way that the movie is structured, and I think that's why it stands the test of time because it has so many uh life uh aspects of it that continue through all aspects of our lives. I don't know why I just went on a big ramble. I'm like kind of emotional right now, and I just like in my feels all watching this. It's like a little bit of nostalgia that's like hitting me. It's a little bit of like a kind of a similar like point in my life to Elle and also just like it's a really good movie. So like it's just like a a triple whammy for me and I'm also just like stressed. So like all three of those things make me emotional and passionate about the movie. Um it always gets me. We you always get me with these throwback movies like like Juno, like like Clueless, like Legally Blonde. I just have so much to say about them even though they don't seem like something that like maybe I would have that much to say about but I feel like they like impacted so many people's lives in so many big big ways that I feel like they are these pinnacles of cinema. Like they are not just watered down to like a chick flick cuz they they do hold so much weight and not only the people's lives that affect that it affected say the audience but it also changed the way cinema was forever in terms of this chick flick structure. I think movies like Clueless and Legally Blonde really uh shaped what modern-day chick flicks are and how we view women within movies in general. Not even just movies within rom-coms, chick flicks, coming-of-age stories, but women in general and their expectations within film and storytelling overall. Why did I eat?
