Video summary
Warren reflects on his outing against the Orioles, acknowledging that while he managed to keep his team in the game, the opponent's lineup presented significant challenges from the very first inning. He points out specific difficulties, such as a non-competitive walk to Holiday followed by Gunner, which put runners in scoring position and made it hard for him to maintain control early on. Despite these struggles, he believes he improved as the game progressed but ultimately felt it was too late to fully mount a comeback once the momentum had shifted against him.
The conversation shifts to Warren's philosophy of play, where he discusses the balance between being aggressive to get ahead and the mechanical adjustments required when things do not feel right. He admits that there is a fine line between trying to fix one's mechanics and maintaining competitive intensity, noting that while he did a great job competing throughout the night, the team faced multiple chances for the opposing side to score. He emphasizes that moving forward into the next game, the focus will be on sharpening his execution so that he can get ahead early and stay on the attack rather than reacting defensively.
A significant portion of the discussion is dedicated to the bullpen's performance, particularly in light of Rodon making his first start back. Warren praises the relief corps as the best in the league, expressing full confidence in any pitcher handed the ball to secure a win or maintain their position. He notes that while the team aims to go deep into games whenever possible, they rely heavily on this group when it becomes necessary to hand over the reins. His high regard for the bullpen stems from their consistent ability to get the job done and keep the team where they need to be throughout the season.
Overall, Warren views the game as a learning experience that highlighted both his areas for improvement and the strength of his supporting cast. He recognizes that while he faced tough moments against a formidable lineup, the collective effort and the reliability of his bullpen were crucial factors in navigating those challenges. Looking ahead, he is determined to refine his approach to ensure he can establish an early lead more consistently, leveraging the confidence he has in his teammates to drive the team deeper into games and secure victories.

you're waiting.
>> Well, you kept the team in and gave them
a chance to win, but it seemed like that
Orioles lineup really made you work.
Just what made them tough to to go
through?
>> Yeah. Um, I mean, first inning right off
the rip. Um,
non-competitive walk to Holiday and then
to Gunner there. Um, put him in a spot
to score that run on that stolen base.
So, uh, I think it was just about
getting ahead. I think I got better as
the game went on. um just a little too
late uh to come back.
>> You've talked in the past about being
aggressive and and trying to get ahead.
When you're not doing that, just is it
something mechanically that you're not
able to to execute?
>> Um yeah, I mean I think all of us can go
out there and you know something doesn't
feel right, you're trying to fix it. Um
but it's that fine line of trying to fix
it and compete at the same time. So I
think it did a great job of competing,
trying to keep us in the game. um you
know they had multiple chances to put
stuff up and we got out of it and
um overall I think just going into the
next one um you know getting some stuff
crisp um so that we can get ahead and be
on the attack.
>> Bullpen was used heavily yesterday with
Rodon's first game back. They were
leaned on a lot tonight just overall
this season. What have you thought of
the way this bullpen has performed for
the most part?
>> Yeah. Um they're the best in the league
for the reason. Um, I think any one of
those guys you can hand the ball off to
and they're going to get the job done.
So, you know, we obviously want to go as
deep as we can into the game, but when
we got to hand it off to them, um, you
know, full confidence that they're going
to get it done and, you know, keep us
where we need to be.
