Vinegar Syndrome Releases Haul (August 2026)

Thanks for checking out this haul video. So, here's everything I got from Vinegar Syndrome for their August releases and I will tell you off the bat I usually go through what I got from Melusine if I got anything, which I did, and what I got from partner labels. I did not get any partner labels this month. It's not because things didn't look good. It's just I'm trying to kind of limit what I'm getting and nothing felt like a must-have for me. Also, just so you know, I am a subscriber with Vinegar Syndrome for this year and for some years past. So, there's certain movies that are included. I'll tell you which ones are part of my subscription and which ones I purchased in addition. So, first off, I will show you the film I picked up from their Melusine site, which is the adult side of things. I'm going to cover this up cuz I just don't know butt cracks if that's okay or not. But, this is Bob Chin's Candy Stripers. Um, I picked this up cuz I was excited because Bob Chin. I have found that I really like Bob Chin films. Let me just flip it to the other side cuz I can show this very easily. Uh, Bob Chin always puts a lot of like comedic stuff in his films that are really fun. So, this one looks like a good time. I will be doing short reviews on all these films. Now, the short reviews on the adult films though, those are behind a paywall. Unfortunately, I do need to keep it kind of separated from the rest of my channel. So, there is a link in the description for memberships with the channel. The top tier you would have to get in order to get access to those adult film reviews. And again, they're short reviews. They're not like full length. They're like 3 minutes or less. So, just know that. But anyway, there will be reviews for the rest of these on my regular channel, short reviews. And then I always do in a few weeks from now I will I will do what I always do, which is a bigger video that's a ranking and reviewing of all the films after I watched them and I read the essays and I went through special features, all that kind of stuff. And I will say people who sign up for even the lowest membership with my channel do get typically at least 5-day early access to that ranking and reviewing video, sometimes up to a week. So, just saying. Anyway, getting into it, I'm I'm starting with what I'm least excited to watch and then the last one will be what I'm most excited about. So, this one is they've been doing this. It's the Lucio Fulci Presents line. Um I will be excited when they're done with this cuz he's typically not great films. This was part of my subscription, as you could probably tell with the way I was talking about it. This is a 4K of Bloody Psycho. I mean, artwork is nice. I like that. And they did the thing where they gave us the alternate slip cover. If you're a subscriber, again, I've said this every single time with these, I don't understand just giving an alternate slip cover when uh you can only use one slip cover at a time. Uh also the fact that I just flipped it on this and I already have this artwork. So, I don't know. It makes no sense to me. I don't like that. Nothing to show you on the inside, nothing different. All right, esteemed parapsychologist Dr. Werner Vogel uh has come to the castle home of Mrs. Rizzori, a beautiful but irasc- irascible irascible I didn't even know that word. Wheelchair-bound aristocrat to practice his famed energy healing on her. Arriving on the grounds, Vogeler is immediately struck by the sense that something dreadful once occurred at the castle, and he soon learns that its abandoned wing is rumored by locals to be haunted. Sure enough, as his stay progresses, the doctor begins to be assailed by gruesome visions of a frenzied stabbing and a ghoulish figure in a wheelchair. With the aid of a local journalist and Mrs. Rizzori's estranged cousin, Michaela, Vogeler starts to unravel the castle's ghoulish past, unwittingly setting in motion a horrifying and bloody series of events. Okay, I mean it sounds like a film that would be one of these Lucio Fulci presents. I'm just not all that excited about it because this is the third of the Lucio Fulci presents that they put out and the other two, eh, I'm assuming this will be the same. And that's kind of what I've heard from people is those presents are just eh. Uh all right. So, the next film is one that I purchased in addition and this was part of their um What is it called? What are they calling it? Iconoscope. Their Iconoscope line. They They've only This is only the Wait, these are third and fourth. So, they only put up two prior. I only purchased one of them. It was Don't Be Afraid of the Dark or whatever. That one was a good time. Um so, I picked up their Disappearance. And for people who are new to finding out about this Iconoscope line, it's made-for-TV movies. So, they're just doing that. So, this is Disappearance. I like the artwork on that. Looks kind of fun. Um so, these are the weird like it slips out and then there's the other good artwork and then it like slips out from the side. Now, the first two releases it was really hard to get those out. So, it looks like they kind of changed things up and they put like a little if you can see like a little tab at the top so you can kind of flip that out if you need to because what was happening is it was so airtight that you just couldn't pull it out of the top case. Um and it was a struggle, I will say. Okay, so here's the other This is kind of like the original uh cover art for Disappearance. Uh there is a little essay booklet. Um looks like me there's only one, maybe two essays in there. I'm excited to check those out. Love the essays, big essay fan with these releases. Uh while Jim Henley is taking his family on a scenic road trip through the Nevada desert, his son Matt asked them to stop to photograph a ghost town called Weaver. The problem is none of the locals seem to have ever heard of it, and it's not on any of the maps except for a vintage one Matt dug up. Once there, they find more and more evidence that this abandoned town harbors something very alive and extremely perilous, and others who have gone to explore Weaver may have suffered horrible consequences. As they continue to poke around Weaver, an unknown force appears bent on making sure that Jim and his family aren't going anywhere. I watched the trailer for this. It looked fun, interesting. So, yeah, I'm I'm pretty excited to get into it. Much easier this time. Good job, Vinegar Syndrome, fixing that issue. Okay, there's only three left. This This is a light month. It really was. And also, I saw people saying that actually, um they have pushed the release of some other ones that they were supposed to release this month that were part of the subscription. I think like two different Hong Kong releases. So, those will be coming, I guess, later in the month. But, okay. So, the next one, uh this is another one of the iconoscopes, so I had to purchase this one in addition as well. This is Death of a Cheerleader. Good artwork on this one. Looks very like giallo-esque in my opinion. And then we have this, also good artwork. And that, I mean, I don't understand why you're just doing the exact same artwork on both sides. I think that's laziness. I don't think they should do that. And then that's the original artwork. So, yeah. And again, a little uh a little essay booklet. So, very excited about that. All right. Santa Mira High High is a competitive place uh where even the principal challenges students to strive for excellence in every regard. No one hears this message more than Angela, who's convinced this is her year to join the newspaper staff, get in with the popular crowd, and make the cheerleading team. But, the popular girls are led by Stacy, who's quick with a put-down and often more than a little and often more than a little mean. When Stacy suddenly winds up stabbed multiple times and left on a neighbor's doorstep, her death rocks the entire close-knit community of Santa Mira. The police have no real leads or any evidence as to who the killer is, while high school kids go after their own candidate for the crime. Now that the FBI has been called in and the media are becoming increasingly involved, we're revealing the truth further divide the once peaceful town. Again, watch the trailer on this one. Looked interesting, looked fun. And this has Tori Spelling in it. It's from the '90s. I think Disappearance is also from the '90s, actually, so they're kind of hitting the '90s made-for-TV movies for this for August. Uh so, yeah. Excited to check that out. All right, last two. Um and the last two are ones that were included with my subscription. And the last one that I am actually most excited about, there's kind of some controversy about it, and I understand the controversy. I'll I'll talk about it when I get to it. Sorry, got to adjust here and take a little drink of water. All right. This one I've never seen before. I I hear that it's a kind of fun movie. It's of unknown origin. Very excited to check this one out. Creature's paw there cuz there'll be creatures. If it can't scare them to death, it will find another way. I like that. And then there you go. Gives you a good idea of what the creature is. No essay or anything with this one, just the paws. Do look creepy. Uh ambitious Manhattan executive Bart Hughes has pretty much got it made. He and his beautiful wife and young son live in an exquisite Upper East Side brownstone that Bart himself renovated entirely by hand. And he's just been handed a difficult project project at work, which could advance him considerably. But when his wife and son take a trip to Vermont, a most unwanted intruder joins Bart at home. A being which will challenge all his wits, cunning, and brute force. A shrewd NYC sewer rat proves his survival instincts can shred any human's nerves just as it chews through wires or concrete. Only one animal can win in this battle at home, but which one? Yeah, sounds like a lot of fun. Uh and on 4K should look pretty good. Of Unknown Origin, very stoked on this one. Okay, so the one I'm actually most excited about, which is the controversial one, is a 4K release of Ice Cream Man. Uh before I show you everything with this, the reason this is controversial for the people who are subscribers is because Vinegar Syndrome for very long time has said that they will not include in the subscription films that have already been released by the company. Ice Cream Man was already released on Blu-ray some years ago. Now, it was a decent amount of years ago, so it's possible some people don't already have it. I do already have it. I even got the slip cover with my media club points because at the time that I got it there weren't any slips available. Um so I was kind of bummed about that. I was like, "Ah, I want a new movie." But at the same time before I realized that this was part of my subscription, I was contemplating buying it for the Blu-ray to 4K upgrade. Also the fact that there's an essay booklet in here, which was not the case with the blue Blu-ray release. And I know that there are also some other special features here as well. So I don't know. Where do you land on that whole thing? Go ahead and put it in the description. I'm kind of in the middle on it. I kind of think it's BS that they're re-releasing a film that they're doing an upgrade as part of the subscription, but at the same time I'm also happy to have it as part of my subscription. So, it's kind of like like very much in the middle on this one. But, I understand both sides. So, love the artwork on this. I mean, that's an iconic scene from it. Don't like this artwork so much. I think they could have done something more interesting. It's It's not terrible. It's okay. This is great, though. And then when we get inside, this is the same slip cover that they had for the Blu-ray release, which I think they should have done something different because this is a different release as and especially to kind of quell the anger from people. Again, essay booklet, which I'm very excited to go through cuz I love reading the essays. They're all almost always great. I mean, like 99.99% of the time they're really good. And then I think there should have been some different artwork here. You know? It It's either this or it's this. I think there should have been different artwork there, too. They really should have artworked it up. Like really gone over the top because I I'm sure they could have guessed that people would be not 100% happy with the fact that they're doing an upgrade as part of the subscription. Anyway, uh Gregory Tudor spent years in a mental hospital after the trauma of witnessing the cold-blooded killing of his beloved childhood ice cream man, Butch Brickell. Uh eventually released to the alleged care of the vapid nurse Wharton and still entirely consumed with the art of frozen confections, Gregory takes over Butch's ice cream business and of course his iconic truck. But, Gregory's secret recipes for Rocky Road and Pistachio have improved upon those of his idol as he adds selected bits of human corpses for an extra tasty treat. But, when a few neighborhood kids get a bit too nosy and arouse the interest and hunger of the police, uh Gregory has little choice but to make sure they end up in the next batch of his popular ice cream. I love this movie. I think it's super fun. It'll be interesting to see if the um if the 4K, like the jump to 4K from Blu-ray, is a big difference. I have a feeling it might not be, but I'm interested to check out the essay booklet very much. Uh the extra special features, and it's important to point out for people who are like Joe Bob Briggs uh fans that there is the, let's see, Ice Cream Man Monster Vision Summer School Edition with Joe Bob Briggs and Clint Howard on here, which was on the Blu-ray. So, you can choose to watch the movie that way. Uh and get all that extra info in the interview. Super cool. Um so, this is a this is a really good release, I think. I mean, without going through it all the way, obviously, I'll I'll like fully go into my review of it and everything um in my longer video that's out in a few weeks, but I'm very excited to watch this cuz I love this movie, and what is it like in 4K?
