This video will show you how to read and
interpret the search results page in
Scout.
After running your search, take a look
at the total number of results.
This gives you a quick sense of how
effective your search terms are.
If you see a large number of results,
your search may be too broad. Try
narrowing it down by applying filters or
adding more specific keywords.
If the number is very small, your search
might be too narrow. In that case,
consider using broader terms or removing
some filters.
Start by looking at the types of sources
and their titles in your results.
To read a brief summary, look at the
abstract located below each title.
Some results will also include an
AI-generated summary.
And some will include the AI Ask option,
in which you can ask specific questions
about an article's content.
Other key features to look at include
the publication date,
publication name,
and assigned subject terms.
To see the full text of the source,
click on the access button.
To expand your results, click on the
more like this button to explore other
recommended resources based on the
selected result.
Create a My EBSCO account to permanently
save your citations and searches into
customized project folders.
Simply click on My EBSCO to begin the
account setup process.
Once you are signed in, you can access
all of your previous and current saved
searches and items from the My EBSCO
drop-down menu located at the top
right-hand corner.
To save individual items without a My
EBSCO account, click on the bookmark
icon next to each result. These items
will be placed into a temporary folder
that will remain active only for the
duration of your current Scout session.
Saved items can be found by clicking on
saved, located in the MyEBSCO drop-down
menu.
From here, you can choose to download,
email, or cite your sources.
Just remember that without signing into
a MyEBSCO account, all of the saved
items here will be deleted as soon as
your search session closes. To save your
entire list of search results, including
the search terms and applied filters,
click on the three dots in the top
right-hand corner of the results page
and choose save search.
Access your saved searches within the
MyEBSCO drop-down menu.
Clicking on the search string will bring
up all of the previous results.
Additionally, you can save searches by
copying the web page's URL and pasting
it into a Word document or email to
access it later.
This URL is a permalink that won't
expire.
