Video summary

The hosts of the Y254 channel, Eliza Kimmani and Blessing Blessy, begin their segment by sharing inspiring stories of resilience before transitioning into the day's main topic: addiction. They highlight the remarkable journey of a teacher who gained recognition after being visited by the son of Kenya's president, illustrating the power of persistence despite initial skepticism or judgment. The conversation also touches on a disturbing incident involving bed bugs on a bus traveling between Mombasa and Nairobi, emphasizing how such negative experiences can tarnish a company's reputation and cause significant discomfort to passengers. Additionally, the hosts pay tribute to the late Dolly Parton, noting the rare honor of lowering the US flag for her, and discuss how her legacy serves as an inspiration for living a purposeful life. The core discussion focuses on defining addiction beyond just drugs or alcohol, expanding it to include behaviors like excessive social media use, gambling, shopping, and even overeating sugary foods. The hosts explain that addiction is characterized by an inability to stop despite negative consequences, neglecting responsibilities, and experiencing withdrawal symptoms when trying to quit. A significant barrier identified is the fear of judgment; many individuals deny their struggles because they worry about being labeled as weak or losing their social standing. This stigma prevents people from acknowledging the problem, which is the crucial first step toward recovery. The hosts argue that true support requires creating a non-judgmental environment where individuals feel safe enough to admit their vulnerabilities without fear of ridicule or shame. When addressing how friends and family can effectively support someone struggling with addiction, the hosts emphasize the importance of honesty and setting healthy boundaries. They advise against enabling destructive behaviors, such as giving money to an addicted relative who wastes it on substances, which only fuels the cycle of dependency. Instead, supporters should tell the truth gently but firmly, encouraging the individual to seek professional help like therapy when necessary. The conversation warns against losing oneself in the process of helping others, noting that trying to save a relationship by sacrificing one's own well-being or financial stability is often counterproductive. Words matter greatly, and supporters must avoid using hurtful phrases that induce shame, such as questioning someone's self-control or implying they are not part of the family anymore. In conclusion, the segment reinforces that supporting an addict involves a balance of empathy, firm boundaries, and professional intervention rather than just emotional enablement. The hosts share viewer comments suggesting that listening without judgment and seeking therapists for severe cases are effective strategies. They also remind their audience to take responsibility for their own actions, as one cannot force another person to quit; the individual must first decide to stop. As they wrap up, the hosts encourage viewers to engage with them on social media platforms like Facebook and Instagram to share their thoughts on addiction support and to participate in voting for their awards nominations, ending the show with a call to stay connected and continue the conversation online.

Just a reminder, what are what were your resolutions for the year? your resolutions and how the year is the year is ending. How far gone are you with your resolutions? Yes. Make sure that this year does not end before you complete what you think you would do because it is very very very important that you do what you think and do not give up. Thousands hope for you. There's still hope until the last day of December of the year. Until then, don't lose hope. Don't give up. Let's keep doing this and it's amazing. Yes, my good name is Eliza Kimmani and I am your host for the day today. Yes, this is why in the morning here on Y254 channel and we would like to know where you're watching us from, how your morning is doing. Um, Kazangapi or probably you work from home like many of us. We would like to know and if you have a comment or something that you would like to tell us, we are on all social media platforms at Y254 channel and specifically we're going to be on Facebook. Um so you can comment me and my uh co-host who I'll introduce in a few and you can tell us anything that you have for us. Uh you can say we look amazing because we do. You can comment and tell us what you're having for breakfast this morning. And also you can also comment on our discussion for the day which I'll be introducing to us in a few. But for now, help me welcome the amazing By Blessing in the house. Good morning. >> Good morning. >> How are you? >> I'm doing good. Today you're looking the mirror. >> Thank you. >> You're welcome. Hi guys. How are you doing guys? My good name is Bessie Blessy. Good morning. I'm so happy and excited to be here and I can't I'm looking forward for an amazing conversation cuz a lot is happening. >> Yeah. Yeah. A lot is happening >> and let's get straight to it and we are going to start with this this story. Uh yeah. Teacher Sila. Yes. We began by the time we saw her and she was saying that she knows George R. That's the president's son. And then George is like, "Hey man, who are you?" >> Yeah. And we wanted to Okay, wait a minute. What's going on here? But now again we see a story that the son of the president of Kenya went to visit her at the school and those his amazing. So yeah it was such an entrance and he went to visit this amazing teacher. She was looking I was looking at that video and I'm like even the way she's walking she's so confident cuz she knows she's looking amazing. >> Yeah. >> First of all, this is a definition of fake it till you make it from the reality. >> Yeah. certain video to text after I'm just landing what has been happening around here. Who is this? >> Really after everything after all those videos I've done then I just want to read something that I have no words that I can describe how I feel. Today was a was such a good day at work. children went home happy and that makes me happy too. Jo, those children will never forget you. You are such a blessing. Thank you so much for coming. >> Wow. >> Stop it. People can judge and troll, but keep your head up. keep going until something happened and that's that's the way to go >> and that's a a show exactly of what she did because that's what teacher did was like you what are you even doing this and all that but she kept doing it until it may happen so that's um a good show of resilience space in reality cuz >> we we've been following up I didn't even think actually such a thing would happen yeah nobody expected uh that to be but yeah There we are. Which is amazing. Congratulations to you. That's a win >> actually. And I feel like she should use that opportunity to make her life great. Like not even thinking about relationship or anything, but she should make sure that at some point she has >> like you're sitting next to the president's son. So you have access to a lot of opportunities and she should grab that and run with it. >> True. >> Yeah. Another story here and this is something that I have realized that very many people are relating to. Uh passengers traveling from Mombasa to Nairobi were forced to ask the driver to stop. >> Yeah. >> After they were reportedly attacked by bed bugs inside the Matu. The passengers demanded to be taken back to Mombasa but the driver declined and instead drove to a warehouse along Mombasa road where the vehicle was changed. So we can see videos here of these customers of these passengers who are trying to light from the video bags. >> So many of them like that's you see how so like that's how they look like they just everywhere and another video of some people just wiping them from their bodies. In our in our studio it is very clean. We do not have bed bugs. Stop what you're doing. You're imagining. Come on. So like >> you're funny. So like it's >> it's it's crazy. >> And you can imagine from Mombasa to Nairobi, it's not a short distance. >> You're supposed to stay for all those hours and uh you're you're uncomfortable, which is very crazy. And it gets a video and you're like okay before it gets to this place the maintenance they didn't even realize that this mat is dirty or something cuz their fumigation services they could do that every now and then. It's even funny, you know, um it's just that we wouldn't want to say which company this is, but everyone is supposed to boycott and be like, we are not using your mats ever again. If this is the kind of experience you're giving us, especially for 10 minutes, you still want to be comfortable. How about all these hours? N plus hours and you're that uncomfortable. >> Yeah. So that's a lot. >> Yeah, that's the >> Yeah, I feel like the company that had that experience ever. And how many people are they going to tell? let's say 65 or something because that's the capacity a bus carries. Everyone is going to tell people against that bus. >> Yeah. Or like I feel like they have to apologize first of all for those passengers that is so unfortunate. So I'm so sorry for you the individuals who went through all that. Um I hope I hope but that company should learn a lesson app >> and I feel like they have a lot of work to do because after this kind of experience personally I will never ever use your bus again. So this is a a tarnishing of their name in a very very big way. I know before they recover from this it's going to be a long long long period. I see some people commenting here. Someone else says that someone else is saying actually I'm thinking you know bed bugs the moment they are attached to your clothes. I'm very sure when you're traveling for such kind of a long distance you're using you're carrying all your clothes or something. Um, the sad thing is which is crazy and they just came from that experience in one way or another. Yeah, cuz they're going to to spread wide and woo, we we are very sorry for such kind of an experience and we really hope that nothing like that ever happens again. But >> like I think that's the most important thing cuz if these people were careful before you want to tell me they never noticed that >> like that's being careless. >> They did but they ignored. Yeah, >> that's being careless and it's it's it's a very bad character. >> Yeah. You know, it's it's a sad time um in the music industry as a whole. Um and I would say worldwide cuz um >> we lost allegent um her name is Dolly Parton. She passed on yesterday at the age of 80 years old. And uh we who love her songs uh one of the favorite songs we had is the coat of many colors. That is one song, one of the many songs that she sung. And um she passed on, may her soul rest in peace. And following that, the President Trump orders the US flag to be lowered nationwide for one week following her death. This is a very good way to honor her. And especially the fact that um most musicians are not honored this way. Like it's very rare that you would hear that the nation null flag has been lowered halfway for a musician. we do it for politicians, for leaders, but now the fact that they're doing it for uh for her, it shows that they really value her and she has been she has been a voice for a very very very long >> uh time and all we can say is that man uh this is a big blow to the music industry and from uh the comments I can see everyone is really um saying may she rest in peace and um yes It's sad, but let's say God loved her most. She was a gospel artist. So, uh, Kongogo, Amanda, heaven direct. I think that is a a good way to to to appease ourselves. You know, we we always try to tell ourselves it's okay. Um, that that happened. And >> to the family that has been left behind, may the Lord give you peace and um, comfort in these trying times. >> Yeah. >> Yeah. And uh I've heard that she was a country music artist. Some of us don't relate especially agencies. But to the people who relate to our songs, I know they they really posting her and I feel like oh she she was >> she was a big person. >> I just want to say may she rest in peace. Yes. May she rest in peace. And um she left a legacy and I I feel like 80 that means you you did a lot in in she did a lot in her life and being recognized by the president of US. I I think that's a good thing and I think we can learn from her. What can you be remembered for? Yeah. And I I I feel like she did her part. Now it's our part to learn something from her. And may she rest in peace. We hope she's in heaven. She was a gospel artist. I hope she's in heaven. Rest in peace. Legend. >> Yeah. True. And um at times you you look at some things and you're like, "Wow." Like in as much as you would think it's a time to mourn, there's a joy that comes with it because of what she did. Like you've said, she lived a good life. She did her purpose here on earth. People loved her music and you see that was her being in purpose and doing what God wanted her to do in this life. So what are you doing with your life? Like blessing has asked but what are we going to say about you? Are we going We don't have to lower the flag for you, but >> um are we going to feel the impact of losing you? Cuz that's the most important thing. Are we going to feel that And as we get to wind up on this segment, um there's a story that shock or probably these people are just clout chasing, but tell me why Diana B is asking the bay, >> bro. You know, I saw that and I was like, "Wait a minute. What's going on here? >> Why are you even asking that? Is that even supposed to be a question you're asking right now?" Mama with that man. >> How many years have you been together? Dramas. Cuz these are dramas. This is being dramatic. When are you going to marry me? I have waited all these years for you to marry me. I I I think that uh these are content creators and you know their businesses everything online. So I think they're looking for something to that can make them stay number. Okay, sour. We get it. It's all right. >> And down the aisle >> down the aisle. >> I'm like, girl, that one has already done enough. But why do you guys get into these relationships and get your kids and everything before marriage? Because I feel marriage is the one that starts. We go down the aisle then from there we say I do then we do. Yeah. I do after >> yeah like okay so which is the right way to do this? Yeah like we don't understand you guys. Yeah. >> Anyways, we shall see if I go to choose my wedding dress, the rings that were delivered and then boom27 the wedding is coming. That's what starts a grand proposal and then from there you're like wedding dress. >> Okay. >> But I know it will be the talk of the town >> cuz I know when they decide to do something they go >> they go all out. >> Yes. >> That's that's a part of of them like Shangi is the decide we're going for this. >> All in like all in all in all in true >> all right let's wait and see how that goes on. >> Yeah. >> Yes. This is why in the morning here on Y24 channel and we have been doing or rather discussing the trending topics what's going on online and I think uh we've done quite a bit of informing you. so that you get updated at least what's going on cuz probably you don't have even a smartphone to go online and check this stuff um out. That's why we are here to make sure that you get to understand. And now we are going to dive in straight to our discussion of the day and today we are talking about addictions. Okay. And the question that we are asking is support addictions. You find someone your friend is addicted to something and when you hear addictions most of the time and all those kinds of things but now we are asking how are you supporting somebody that is going through addictions. Yes. At times people feel like I would I don't care. There are people who are like that. But yes, we would like to know. So we have posted you're going to see our photo Facebook and on Instagram as well. So you can tell us what you think about that. We would like to know your answer in regards to our question. Yes. And we're going to be reading your comments as we get to wind up on this amazing segment. So let's get to hear from blessing. What comes to your mind when you hear addictions? >> Uh I think um Kyangu addiction is when you you can't do without something. Uh you you're finding it difficult to to stop that thing. It's overcoming you. alcohol, drugs, medicines, sometimes gambling, social media, even shopping. I was just chilling, you know. I was just chilling and saying Yeah. Excessive internet use. So I know right. So I think we listen we don't judge. No blessing guys. Addiction to food, addiction to shopping and addiction to social media is at least we are here discussing about that idea. Okay. I'm just being a good I'm just helping so that you know when we point something out we know this is the problem. We can help out. >> Yeah. And these are the things of addiction and craving a substance or a behavior constantly losing control over how much or how often it is used. Continuing despite ne negative consequences, neglecting responsibilities, relationships, or even a person's personal well-being. And the last one, feeling with the true symptoms when trying to stop. Yes. >> Amazing. Um, thank you for describing to us what addiction is and also cuz most people when they think or hear the word addiction, what comes to their mind is drugs, pois. But now it in reality even a lot of eating sugaryly foods can be addictive. A lot of um like you've said all those things, shopping, overspending your money. uh someone can be addicted to that. I don't know why. I don't know why most of the times story. I don't want to to feel attacked. But yes, there are people who are something as simple as that. And the problem is that when you decide that okay, I think that's I can say that. that. Yes. If you don't know, please ask your your friends to tell you what that is. Okay. And um the problem with that is >> Yeah. >> Yeah. So that is addiction. Okay. And now let's think about this. How does a habit get to being addictive? Like when do you realize that oh this is not normal anymore. This is not me just doing it for the sake of doing it, but I am actually addicted to this. When does it get to that point? >> I think like you you want to stop, but you can't stop. Let's talk about alcohol. And I also feel like most of the times we never even realize we addicted see when other people are the ones who are going to pinpoint and tell you hey I don't think this is normal and that's when it d on you like by the way but for us we don't realize that it's addictive you scrolling online until you don't realize that it's a habit that um and if you realize you realize when it is too late. Yes. Like so much into it that you can't even do without like for example the drugs something like withdrawal like you can't do without it until other people even shake. You can't even hold anything because you've not yet um given your body what it's already used to. And that is a problem because um when it gets to that point, it's very difficult for you to start fighting it. But now before we get to fighting addictions um why is it always very difficult to acknowledge that you're addicted to something >> like very difficult to acknowledge more than even um overcoming it? Uh sometimes feeling like okay acknowledge that you're addictive like I need to lose some Addicted to alcohol friends you will lose those friends that addicted to this thing lose those people and again help yes you don't know how to take care of yourself don't know to take care of your families blah blah blah you're not man enough what do you mean you addicted you why the whole you addicted so I feel like it's it's difficult for them to accept that they are addicted like they will be judged by the community >> yeah the problem is that you have to first accept that you're having a problem so that we can now start solving the problem it is an issue it is a problem um it's going to be very difficult for you to even solve it because um sol part of solving is cutting off those friends. Part of solving is you um saying that I am not doing this anymore. But now most of the times because you feel like you're going to be judged by people, you don't acknowledge it. And yes, we're talking about Yes. And if you have an answer to this amazing question, make sure that you reach out to us p Facebook and we're going to be reading your comments in a few. And now let's start from um thinking about the question. How can you support someone that is addicted? Like you've given us the scenario where this this person is afraid of telling the friends that I am actually addicted to something. Uh because they feel like at some point uh the friends are going to judge them. But now as the friends that are nice as these friends that you you don't want your friends to feel judged how do you handle it? How do you support such kind of a person? >> First of all don't shame them and don't trip them. So don't don't do that. Make sure don't don't shame them. Make sure I think that how you can help them then don't judge them sometimes. Yes, they they want to help you but they have to judge you first. Those scenarios where you fall down and then your friends laugh at you before they tell you sorry. You're one of those friends that laughing to tell them sorry. >> Yeah. So I think you're not there for those people you have to deal with some things and to deal with those things there are some people who have to help you. So you are one of a friend who is going through such kind of thingy. I think that will work especially for that person. And again for these people, it's all about them. >> Don't lose yourself trying to help other people. No, don't be used by those ideaffected. >> Amazing. Um I also feel like another good way of supporting these people is telling them the truth >> cuz most of the times we are trying to shield people from telling them the truth. Oh, I don't want to hurt their feelings. Hurt their feelings. >> If that is the only way that you're going to help this person, you know, blessing, for example, if you're drinking, I cannot say that it's going to hurt you. And the reality is that you're being foolish and you're not being a good steward. >> That's what you want to you want to have fun. I love and I am a big big big advocate of of budgeting. sit down with your money, you know, like have a budget so that really that's not the kind of way we're going to the reality is that the moment we agree that you have a problem and as your friend I actually tell you the truth truth. >> I have very few friends myself and I love uh most of them are people that will tell you the truth. And be someone that accepts correctionless I will not come tell you and you're still going to be affected. But the reality is that one way of helping someone is telling them the truth. Do not shield them because now you trying to shield them is And it is going to keep burning because if I know that if you come to me and you addicted of maybe for example overspending will next month if you don't and when you come I'll be like because unless we we we do these things to people Yeah, >> this thing of oh them >> not in a bad way please don't don't hear what I'm not saying but what I'm saying is that yes tell these people the truth and the truth will always set you free cuz you'll come to your senses and you realize oh every every before and most of you don't even return the money it's very good that I give you what I know I am ready to lose But what are you trying to do? Cuz even that is add an addiction as well. addicted to like it's a cycle that you already created that you cannot stay a debt-free life >> and these things things are going to affect you and um that's why I'm saying have a friend who is actually not afraid of telling you the truth not afraid of calling you out and telling you blessing you didn't do this the right way or we had agreed that this is what you supposed to do and why have you not done it. Yeah. So those are some of the things that will help this friend that is struggling otherwise addictions. Yeah. Exactly. I had a friend of mine in campus um she had friends that used to drink. So every time every weekend and at some point I feel like she was feeding their drinking problem. So, you're not being a good friend. You're thinking you are because you're making sure that they get safe in the host and everything, but in reality, you are feeding their addiction problem and you're not helping at all at all. At all at all. Yes. So, we have um another question here. >> What makes people hide or deny an addiction? >> I think they fear u that they'll be judged. especially men. Like I'm not enough. So I feel like one thing of being judged especially soiety and I feel like you are filled manamilies they feel like they don't want to acknowledge or to accept it like a >> yeah actually I I think I agree with you most of the time it's just the stigma and the fact that they fear what people are going to judge them and that's today we are talking about how we can support them without judging them because judgment is one of the greatest fears people have I fear hey man do you know I'm struggling with this and that I feel like you're going to really judge me and think of me as a lesser person and I wonder how am I struggling with that. >> This happens uh most of the times. It used to happen most of the times when you go to those mathematics in class and the first thing is like what was what was always wrong with those people? You're like, "Okay, I didn't come to ask because I know if I knew I would." So, like, you make this person feel so judged. They feel like they they don't even like when you're the worst person in the whole world because you don't even know or you can't handle yourself. We shouldn't do that. We shouldn't make people feel like they >> you're also having an addiction. It's just that it's different from this other person. And it's just that you've not even realized >> that it is an addiction. Cuz that's another thing. Most people have addictions and they don't realize it like people have addictions that they don't even know that this is I am actually addicted to this and like an addiction is when you can't do it do without that you know if I don't go out if I don't eat this I feel like my body is not okay. Those are uh take yourself out, treat yourself but do not be addicted to these kinds of things. Okay, those are the things that we are talking about and that's what we are pointing out and we are asking how do you support somebody that is affected by addictions and uh specifically the question that we are having is um addictions. Well, we would say that I don't think that is a reason enough for us not to support these people. But yes, that is our question. Facebook, if you have a comment or something that you want to tell us, make sure that you go and tell us. And we're going to be reading them as we get to wind up. But now we have another question here. Um, okay. So how important uh is it for someone to professionally support you >> like uh for you to recover from addictions? How important is it for probably family or friends to support you? >> Uh I I have few set first of all um set health boundaries. support someone. Supporting someone doesn't mean accepting abuse, manipulation, or even destructive behavior. And you encourage a lot. instead of a better way which is very bad. So make sure that you set healthy boundaries when it comes to supporting the people who are addicted. Uh another one is celebrate progress. By the way, we may improve. That's the way to go. Keep up. Keep on doing that. At least I'm making Yes, that other thing. And look after yourself too amamilies. Let me let me concentrate myself. So as much as you're trying to help people who are addicted amate Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. And um most of the times like you've said uh it's very important not to lose yourself >> because h this is uh this might sound like a funny example but it's very very important. >> Do not for example if you're struggling with gambling >> at some point you might find yourself going back to that thing again. You're going to find yourself and there you find yourself laughing because >> yeah so don't lose yourself in the process of saying that you're trying to help somebody. Don't lose yourself in the process of saying that you're going to I show you let me show you how I I I overcame it. you're going to be dragged back there and it's going to be terrible. This person will be like and now at that point you have nothing to say cuz in reality you can't get back to. So be very careful not to lose yourself in the process of trying to help someone. Um now what should you not say to someone that is struggling with addictions when you're trying to help them? Cuz people just find themselves talking and how that your statement is hurting someone because words are very hurtful especially if you're speaking to someone words are everyone is sensitive to what you tell them so what are some of the things that you shouldn't tell or say to this person that is struggling >> I think one thing you have no self You don't have self control. That one thing shame just stop it. You are so Look at what you are doing to your family. Not part of us. Are you sure I'm not adopted? Are you sure I am part of this family? Those words by the way. No wonder this. No wonder this. And in reality, it's not true. >> Yeah. If you loved us, you could have quitted that thing. Those are things that people just affect this person. Yes, I think those are some of the um ones that you can say to a person who is addicted. I can't help you anymore. I feel like those are the few ones that you can see person who is addicted. I feel like I'm ashamed to the society, the family and even to my friends. But what I could addict, make sure that you hold them their hands professionally. manipulated by those people. >> Yeah. Cuz at times they might manipulate you. I was talking to a friend of mine and she's uh so much into farming right now. So she was telling me that she has a brother that is always very drunk. So um every time she's she sells her farm products, >> the brother is there. So he gives he gives an brother some money and it's been a thing that so she was telling me recently um she had sold not so many like brother comes. So she was telling me how the brother has really been trying to manipulate her. And you see the brother he's working but he's using his all his money. He's wasting all his money. Plus he wants her money as well. So like blessing is saying do not be manipulated by these people. >> Don't lose yourself in the process of saying that you want to help someone cuz that's what most people do. You're in a relationship with this person. He's drunk. He comes and you're there saying pressure but you're you're very ready to lose yourself trying to say that you're saving this relationship. You're not even married, mommy. Why are you what? Why are you doing that for yourself? At times you even see some parents certain evening and I find this boy and it was late. It was something probably 900 p.m. So the mom is married to a stepdad. So the stepdad came home and he was the boy. saw she he he had come from a very far place like long long long long distance and you know I was there talking to him and it's very sad that some parents a woman can allow her child to be thrown outside by this man just because um he's not the real father and you're staying there like that's crazy. This is your son. This is your blood. Your flesh and blood you know like when you think about it doesn't make sense at all. >> True. >> Yes. So do not lose yourself. Do not lose your family. Do not lose uh the connections that you have with everyone around you just because you want to keep keep a certain friendship or a certain relationship. The same way I think you still going to keep friendship with these people just because you want friends. It's not worth it. Like it's not worth having these people in your life if you know you're going to lose yourself thinking that you're trying to help them or thinking that um you're trying to sell to save as um a relationship to your life is better than this relationship that is making you lose yourself. >> Yes. So as we wind up let's get to hear probably some of the things or the advice from our amazing Byless. I I feel like to be honest with you and the only way to help them to to just come back to your senses or come back to your real life. But make sure it again. So make sure and guys I want to remind you that I've been nominated. >> Oh yes, >> do you know before you even say it? Are you guys realizing a pattern of winners and big big people in the morning? Are you seeing that? Tomato queen. Did I even tell you that I am the TV host OF THE YEAR? >> Y DID I? So this is our chance to vote for her. She has also been nominated. Now you can tell us you see how you supported me and voted for me so so so much and we brought the win home. E we should support blessing as well so that she also gets to bring this win home. Yes.
