Ukrainian forces also successfully neutralized over 50 FPV drones used by occupiers to hunt their soldiers, demonstrating a robust defensive capability against low-altitude threats. Ground teams performed foot reconnaissance and provided direct support to friendly units as they advanced to their positions. A significant recent achievement involved Ukrainian attack drones striking a Russian Kasta radar station near the temporarily occupied settlement of Vishneve in the Zaporizhzhia region. The General Staff confirmed that the antenna and equipment unit of this mobile three-coordinate Kasta 2E2 system were damaged, severely hampering the Russian military's ability to control airspace in the area. This radar system is designed to detect and track airborne targets at low and extremely low altitudes, capable of determining coordinates for aircraft, helicopters, cruise missiles, and drones within a range of 5 to 150 km.
The Kasta 2E2 station possesses a maximum target detection altitude of 6 km and can identify small drones flying as low as 60 meters from distances between 30 and 44 km. Its antenna mast can be raised up to 50 meters to expand coverage and improve the detection of low-flying threats, making it a formidable asset for air defense command posts. With an estimated cost ranging from $60 million depending on its configuration, the destruction of this station represents a substantial blow to Russian capabilities. By disabling such expensive infrastructure, Ukrainian forces have successfully degraded the enemy's situational awareness and reduced their effectiveness in defending against drone attacks in this sector.
