to The New York Times, this is a
game-changer for Ukraine. A year ago,
delivering satellite imagery to the
front lines could take several days due
to less sophisticated technology and a
multi-layered command structure. This
made it difficult to engage targets that
could change location with long-range
drone strikes. The rapid delivery of
high-quality satellite imagery to
frontline troops has been a key
battlefield achievement over the past
year, allowing Ukraine to rapidly strike

Ukraine, among other things, intensified

drones can be shot down or their signals
jammed. Their range is limited, as is
the physical area they can cover. Until
recently, only senior commanders had
access to satellite imagery for
high-level strategic planning. However,
last year, this access expanded
significantly thanks to the US
government and private companies.
Planter, Ukraine's commercial partner,
recently launched six new satellites,
bringing its total to 10. Its satellites
can now cover up to 7 million square
kilometers of the planet daily, enough
to scan the Ukrainian battlefield
multiple times, said Will Kakavas, the
company's chief transformation officer.
Satellites can provide images of the
same area up to 15 times a day, helping
soldiers spot subtle changes in terrain

Russian targets. Furthermore, images can
be obtained in just 15 [music] minutes,
whereas it typically takes several
hours. However, this is a huge
improvement over the recent past, when
it sometimes took days. Basically, we
hand them the satellite, Kakavas said.
