Video summary

The video transcript centers on a satirical commentary regarding an interview between Tucker Carlson and Jesse Olafson, a sculptor who appears to possess a unique but flawed perspective on mathematics. The host introduces Olafson as an artist known for creating sculptures from various materials, including wood-fired kilns, and sets the stage for a discussion that quickly devolves into a critique of modern educational standards. The core of the segment revolves around Olafson's assertion that algebra is unnecessary because one can build complex structures like arches without using letters to represent numbers. This viewpoint is presented not as a valid mathematical argument but rather as an example of "aggressive ignorance" and cognitive deterioration caused by consuming conspiracy theories, suggesting that such individuals have retreated into a self-caused madness where abstract concepts are rejected in favor of literal interpretations. The commentary delves deeper into the implications of Olafson's stance, highlighting his inability to understand the concept of abstraction, which is fundamental to advanced mathematics like calculus and physics. The narrator points out that while Olafson claims he never encountered anyone who uses algebra, this claim is factually incorrect given the necessity of algebra in fields ranging from rocket science to artificial intelligence algorithms. The transcript mocks Olafson's specific anecdote about passing his college algebra class by drinking with a party host and skipping freshman requirements, framing him as a representative of a "perceptual level mentality" that cannot rise above concrete perceptions. This inability to grasp abstract thinking is contrasted with the historical development of mathematics, noting that while building a kiln predates algebra, sending rockets to the moon or designing bridges requires the very tools Olafson dismisses. Furthermore, the video critiques the broader cultural trend of dismissing rigorous education in favor of what the host terms "fake math." The narrator explains that even simple curves used in architecture, such as catenary curves, have specific mathematical equations involving trigonometry and calculus, yet Olafson insists these are irrelevant because he built a kiln without them. The segment also touches upon Olafson's confusion regarding financial mathematics, noting his preference for what is described as a "personal finance class for really, really dumb people" over finite math, which explains loan interest and repayment strategies. Ultimately, the video concludes by expressing disbelief at how many viewers might agree with Olafson's sentiments, labeling the dismissal of algebraic principles as a waste of time and a symptom of a society that has regressed into accepting superficial understandings of complex subjects.

Let's go to the Tekk video. Tucker, this is going to be so much fun. Oh my god. Is anybody still watch Tucker? You know, it's it's it's Yeah, it's hard. Um he's interviewing here, just so you know, somebody by the name of uh Jesse Olafson. Jesse Olafson. Uh I'll tell you more about Jesse Olafson. uh you know a little bit about Jesse Lafs and who he is uh in uh you know in a bit. Um I mean I I think this interview with Jesse Alfan has um probably a lot of gems, a lot of incredible gems. Um but uh but this is I think it can't be beat. This one can't be beat. And no, it doesn't even have demons and it can't be beat. That's how good it is. Now, just to give you a sense, Jessoff son is an artist known for his sculptures. I think that's pretty generous with different materials and figures. He also creates fine arts, whatever the hell that means, at times, and carves, designs, and ceramics. He appeared at Takawson's show on Monday. They talked about history of history and arts. You know, he's an expert he's you'll see how much of an expert he is. Um, all right. Let's do this. Let me line it up. All right. There you have it. All right. I'm going to press play. Let me know if there's an echo. Let me know if you can't hear. Uh yeah, let me know what is what is going on. I need to so I can track your comments. Let me move this window over here. But um let me um you know uh uh yeah, let me know if there's sound issues. Right. Here we go. This is better than anything said about uh about Islamian. Here we go. >> Why does algebra put letters into numbers? >> I think >> letters into numbers. Why does algebra put letters into numbers? I don't even know what exactly that means just grammatically and English-wise. Um, why do does algebra have letters representing numbers? Maybe. But put letters into numbers. weird way of expressing it. But this is what Jess, who is obviously an expert in mathematics and in the theory of math, is this is his answer. >> Put letters into numbers. I think just to [ __ ] with you. [laughter] >> It's just a [laughter] It's just a f with you. That's That's why they put letters, you know, x= 3 + y. There's no reason to do that. Literally no reason to do that. It's just a mess with you. I mean, I can't even imagine what they think of calculus or differential equations that also use letters where you put numbers into the letters. >> [laughter] >> So, you deal with math in your job every day. You've already, I think, demonstrated your grasp of math is is high. [laughter] >> This guy's grasp of math is high. I mean, even he's >> I mean, functional math. Yeah. Yeah. For sure. >> He can add subtract. Well, if you can build a woodfired kiln. >> Yeah. >> Um, you understand math. >> If you can work, [laughter] I I I we might as well just stop the show right now and end the Iran book shows forever. I mean, this is being watched by millions of people. Millions of people are watching this. Millions of people have subscribed to this channel, to Tech Costa's channel. I mean, the guy can build a a what was it? What was it? Let me just go back a second. A woodfired kill and therefore he must be an expert in math. not sending rockets to the moon, you know, not designing a bridge, not using, you know, advanced math to write algorithms for AI. No, he he he he built a woodfire kiln. Indeed, people build woodfire kils before there was algebra. before there was algebra. So you don't indeed need to be an expert in math to build a woodfire kill. And and this is what I'm saying is not profound. But to send rockets to the moon, you do to figure out the laws of motion, you do. I mean I mean algebra existed has existed since the medieval mid ages. It was developed in India and it further developed under the Islamic uh under you know the during the Muslim golden era and arrived in Europe sometime during the middle ages and uh and and and Newton and lightnets developed calculus but you can't develop calculus without a basis in algebra but here you talking to a guy who built a world fire kong and he is going to tell us why algebra is just messing with you Just nobody nobody needs to learn algebra because hey, you could build a woodf fire kil without it. So why would you need it? I mean, we might as well all shut down and go home because this is what's popular in the culture right now. I mean, I think Mary Benz is absolutely right. Math is such a profound value in our family. She writes, "This aggressive ignorance is next level offensive." And this is the thing, it can't be ignorance. Again, Taken never used to be this dumb. This is massive evasion, massive cognitive deterioration because of evasion. This is self-caused madness. This is what happens when you put yourself on a diet of conspiracy theories. This is this is what happens to a mind when it is infected nonstop with conspiracy theories. I mean, I didn't, you know, we'll see. I mean, we'll see if Tucker blames the Jews. I don't think so. I don't think in this video he blames the Jews, but I'm sure at the back of your mind he is convinced. >> Yeah. >> Um, you understand math. So, but what you didn't add letters to numbers in the process of doing that? >> That's the weirdest thing. Nowhere did I find any letters in my math to calculate the size and structural integrity of a canary arch. Ain't that weird? Oh, that was weird cuz everybody, every math teacher was always like, you need to know some algebra. I've yet to encounter a single person in my life that uses algebra. >> Actually, have you? >> So, like you But you would know. Yeah, but I mean, I live in a fake world. Um, >> first honestly, >> that's why you use fake math with letters. Congratulations to everybody out there in the matrix. Good job. You're good little boy slaves. >> Fake math with letters. I you know [gasps and sighs] and and you know I bet there are thousands hundreds of thousands of Taka W viewers who just think oh my god yeah absolutely that's right why did we study algebra in Cool. What a waste of freaking time. By the way, the equation for Canterbury curve canary sorry cantoner curve the equation for a canary curve which he mentioned is y = a * the cosine of x / a where cosine is cosine h parentheses z equals open parentheses e to the power z + e to the power of negative z close parenthesis close parenthesis / 2 h [clears throat] it looks like it has algebra and calculus unneeded to actually calculate or describe type a catinary curve. Now, it's true that to build a killer with such a curve. It's probably not exactly that curve, but to be able to kill it, you probably don't have to run that equation. But that's why I mean Tucker is not this dumb, is he? I mean, you guys tell me. Is is is it even possible that that he's this dumb? Now, also in the interview, Jess also explained that he could not pass college algebra because he could not understand why we were putting letters into numbers. In other words, he could not abstract. I mean, the whole point of a letter of a letter instead of a number is to abstract. It's the whole methodology of abstraction. And he said his algebra teachers were very lacking in intelligence. So this guy is a true example, a real example, real example of a perceptual level mentality of somebody who cannot rise above perceptions. >> [sighs] >> Now he says uh that in order to pass the class he got drunk with the lady who signs up you up for classes at a party. He never had an advisor. Skipped every freshman requirement at graduation. They were like how the [ __ ] you've never you've taken none of these freshman classes. And his defense was algebra's dumb. I'm an odd major. I want to build cool [ __ ] This is the kind of people Tucker Carlson interviews. That's how I found finite math. The class they had hidden from us. Why did they hide finite math from students? Because it explains to you how much you will pay on any loan for interest and how fast you could pay off a loan if you just paid $50 more. He made it through a week of the class before cutting up his credit cards. See, he took a um a a a you know, a personal finance class, and he thinks that's math. Yeah. I mean, it was a personal finance class for really, really, really dummies. Not for dummies, but for really, really, really dumb people. All right. Um, the world out there is even dumber than I thought it was.
