According to MLB rules, changing sides, a batter may switch from left side to the right side or vice versa between pitches. Wow. So maybe you can. So So the pitcher, what if you face a switch pitcher? So it sounds like the pitcher has to declare. The pitcher facing a switch hitter will be like, I'm going to be a righty. The switch pitcher says, I'm going to be a righty. And then the switch hitter can do whatever he wants after that. or even switch sides if you want to. Wait. Oh no. Terry's got more information. The pitcher declares first. The pitcher must visually indicate to the umpire and batter which hand they will use before appearance before the plate appearance starts. And then the hitter can still flip-flop though. The lockin. Under the official rule prompted by pitcher Pat Vendett, the pitcher must throw one pitch with the chosen hand, and both players are generally locked into their sides for the remainder of that at bat unless an injury occurs. Now, could there be gamesmanship? Could there be like, oh, ow, my plant foot or whatever, you know, I got hit by a pit or I got you, I fouled off my foot. I need to switch sides.
