Transformers Hot Wheels El Segundo Coupe: The Good, The Bad, & The Ugly

Really, they could have come up with a better name than that. Anyway, I had to pick this figure up. I absolutely love all of the Transformers Hot Wheels figures that we've been getting lately, so picking him up was a must. Uh, taking a quick look at the packaging. Absolutely beautiful. Great looking artwork of El Seagundo there in vehicle mode. and robot mode. Hot Wheels, Mattel, Transformers across the top. Elsa Gundo himself is in vehicle mode inside that plastic bubble. And it looks like we got some blast effects right there. Elsa Gundo Coupe there at the bottom. Back of the packaging features product shots of Elsa Gundo in robot mode and vehicle mode. And there's those blast effects in full effect. So now without further ado, let's get Elsa Gundo opened up out of his packaging and check him out. [music] Now, once you get Elsagundo Coupe all opened up and out of the packaging, you'll see that he does come with a sheet of instructions that, as usual, is very well illustrated and easy to follow. He also comes with two blast effects. And I'm going to have to complain a little bit because one of my blast effects was not hollowed out. I actually had to take a drill bit, you might be able to see it, and hollow out the blast effect in order for [music] uh Elsa Gundo to use it. And that kind of sucks. You're paying $35 for a transformer. I shouldn't have to hollow out my own blast effects. [music] And then we have El Sagundo himself. And this vehicle mode is spectacular looking. [music] Now, I will have to correct myself. I was kind of making fun of the name earlier, but the Hot Wheels Transformers are named after their Hot Wheels cars [music] counterparts. So, they're not bot names. So, you know, after my fourth Hot Wheels Transformer, I should have figured that out. So, anyway, great looking vehicle mode. Love the combination of blue, red, gold, and black. [music] Absolutely pops. I do not like the translucent windows. And that's mainly due to the fact you can look right there on the inside and see all of the hinges. But, it does have these really cool rivets around it. And those are raised. I don't know if you can hear that or not, but that's pretty slick. So, I wish maybe they were a solid collar, but oh well. So, taking a closer look, let's see here on the front, we got Hot Wheels with gold and red stripes. [music] Big 68 right there on the hood. A gold, red, and black stripe up top. We got black for the rear rear window. Uh more gold, red, and black stripes along the side. Another big 68 right there. I believe that stands for Hot Wheels graphics. Love the rims. Those are spectacular. And then we got Hot Wheels. What's that say? Yeah, Hot Wheels on both sides. Uh red tail lights on the back. So, yeah, this is a great looking vehicle mode. Absolutely love it. And just zips right across the table. So, let's do some quick size comparisons. We got Elsagundo right here with his wavemate GT Scorcher. And let's bring in Legacy Hot Shot since I have him close by. And right there, there is a big size difference in those deluxes. I guess we are paying for that Hot Wheels name. So, while he's in vehicle mode, let's go ahead and show off how he can utilize these blast effects. I'll take the one I didn't have to drill. And you just attach it here on the back on this [music] black section, which I guess is exhaust. So, let's see if I can get this one on. Okay. So, there's how the blast effects work in vehicle mode. And yeah, he rolls perfectly fine with those attached. So, now let's get him transformed into [music] robot mode. And the first thing we're going to do is remove the exhaust. They just peg in. So, just pull those out. Just like that. And now we're going to separate the arms. And you want to be careful doing this. Grab the arms up here at the top and work them out. One just came out a lot easier than the other. See if I can get this to come out. Cuz you don't want to grab them by the sides because unfortunately Hasbro designed this to where those panels just pop right off. I do not understand why. There's no reason that that needs to happen. Uh kind of sucks. And it's a really little peg, too. So, it doesn't go in the hole [music] deep enough to really have a good connection. So, watch out for that. So, once you get the arms down, kind of lock them in place right here. Take these white panels, open these up, and then you're going to bring the legs out just like so. Actually, I am missing this section. Bring the hood down. Take this top section here. Lift this up out of the way. There we go. Lift that out of the way. Now you can flip those legs around. I always get ahead of myself. So you're flipping the legs around and there's little tabs right here. You want to make sure these knees lock in. So there's one actually both of them at the same time because if you don't, this little section here can get away from you. [music] So after you get the knees locked in, go ahead and rotate here at the waist. That is a tight waist right there. [music] So, we've got that going on. Let's see. Bring this down. We're going to go ahead and shut the Nope. Got to get the feet out. And the feet are way back in there. I can't get my fat finger to get back there all the way. Man. All right. I am going to have to get some help. So, I got this little screwdriver right here. Let's see if I can get in there and get those feet out. All right. There's one. Not designed for us grown-ups, I guess. Get that other foot out. Now, we go ahead and shut those back. Bring the feet up just like so. Now, we're going to bring this piece down forming the chest. It's going to tab in right there. And now, we're going to flip out the wrists. Actually, let's go ahead and rotate the arm around. And the wrists are kind of a pain in the butt to get as well. I guess this is where those panels can pop out and be handy. I can't get anything on this damn figure. All right, there he goes. So, there's one wrist. See if I can do the other one without taking the damn panel off. There we go. Goodness gracious. All right, so let's put the panel back on and drop it. All right, and there we have after we bring this down, there is Elsa Gundo in his robot mode. Kind of a wonky transformation, but end results is pretty good. I like this robot mode. Looks really good with the combination of the blue, the white, and the black. Let's bring him in for a closer look. Check out that head sculpt. It looks to me like he should have a light piped visor, but uh yeah, there's I guess they changed their mind at the last minute. I don't see any light piping. What? Whoa. Wait a minute. Wow, that's hit. Where is that, man? That is barely on there. There it is. And that blends in great. Okay, so I was wrong once again. There is some light piping. That's awesome. Not as good as a GT Scorcher, but still, I love the fact that we have some [music] light piping. Articulation. Let's see. The head's on a ball joint. Can look up and down. Do a complete 360. Arms can go up and down. They can do a complete 360. See, there's a bicep bend. Let's see. No wrist rotation due to the way that transforms. There is waist rotation. Legs forward, legs back. There is a knee bend and ankle tilts and thigh rotation. So, he's got all the articulation you would come to expect from these modern Transformer figures. All right, let's bring in his weapon. Now, it is the exhaust from earlier. Just plug that into his hand just like so. Kind of it looks more like a tuning fork than a gun. And let's see. Get the blast effects attached. So, we'll just peg right in. And so, now we have Uhoh. My drilled one doesn't want to stay on. Oh my god. Is it going to work? There we go. Fortunately, I have a big old bag of blast effects. So, God blast. It's a great video. Stay on there just for just give me long enough to talk about it. All right. Hell, good enough. There we go. Elsa Gundo Coupe all armed and ready for battle. And now for some quick size comparisons. Here is Transformers Hot Wheels El Sagundo Coupe with Generation 1 Optimus Prime, Hot Wheels GT Scorcher, and [music] Hot Wheels Twin Mill. Transformers Hot Wheels Elsa Gundo Coupe is a pretty good Transformers toy. Out of the four Hot Wheels Transformers that I have, he is my least favorite. I think uh in a couple of parts, one, I had to drill out my own blast effect, and two, he has those panels that have no sense popping off whatsoever. Do not understand why they did that. Unless you want to utilize the armorizers or something, but other than that, it's it's pointless. And I may end up just gluing those on. The vehicle mode is great, aside from the translucent windows, and that's just me. transformations. Pretty cool. And the robot mode, I like it.
