Welcome to Sopie TV. It's the match preview. Tottenham Hotspur versus Everton at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium Saturday 5:30 kickoff. Feels tricky this one just because Tottenham haven't won a game. Got the goal that way. >> First of all, I think Tottenham fan well Tottenham should be giving us a guard of honor. >> Yeah, straight away. It should be a nice hangover from last season. Should just be giving us a guard of >> keeping them in the league. >> Yeah. >> Allowing them to stay. >> Yeah, I think that should be the first and foremost. But >> how are we feeling about this game? >> Um, obviously there's trepidation because they've been rubbish. >> Yeah. >> So far and they have seen them a couple of times. They haven't been very good. But um and it's obvious it's always a it's always a tough game. We just don't play well there, do we? We had the we won there when in co >> co Yeah, >> we got a draw there, but we've had some pretty poor performances there as well. We had the the 5n which was dreadful on the lampad. We had last last May was probably ironically a worse performance than the 5-nil. It was just that they weren't good enough to put us to the sword. Um when we've had the odd one that was a really good puff like when we I remember us getting beat 2-0 there I think when D Shawn D was the man we actually played quite well that day. was at 2 1 nil when we had a goal disad Andre Gomez that took the ball me we played really well that day and just missed opportunities but in general it's been a difficult fixture for us but um going into this Everton can definitely win this game don't question about it >> but they I do believe they're better than what they've shown so far >> yeah I mean they brought in 10 new signings you know it's uh it's it's a good edit and James Go studio. >> Um, >> they brought in 10 new signings. I'm just that >> because it's just like I know it was that in May, >> but I mean they've only the worst, the most damning stat is Newcastle have won more games at their stadium than they have in 2026. And that is a terrible stat. The only game he won in 2026 was Everton. >> Yeah, that's >> so for Everton that should be the most humiliating thing going into that game. Yeah. And they should want to make sure they put that stat right on on Saturday. >> But they do have good players. Fernandez is a bount to buy him. Clearly didn't have that kind of money. Couldn't even buy a striker. But um Antonali is a really good player and Cevin will do well when he settles down from City and Marush is a great you know they made some good signs but right now >> they're still not they're not gelled so it might be a good sign to play them. >> Yeah. Yeah. I mean well so far everybody else who's played them it's been a good sign to play them hasn't it? I know they drew the last game nil nil so they got a clean sheet so they might be thinking well we're edging closer to where we want to be but >> I mean for us we've had a good start haven't we and you know in the last couple of games we've shown that fighting spirit >> and I think certainly now after the transfer window shut and everything can all the fallout from that I think David Moyes will be quite content with what he's got he'll he he he loves nothing more than everybody writing not Not only him off but his team off. >> Yeah. >> And I think Sunday perfectly encapsulated that. >> The way it, you know, going a goal behind but then fighting back and then going get Luke conc with the last kick of the game. That's that's exactly the image that David Moyes wants to portray. So going into this game, you know, hopefully it's it's the same again. It's hopefully it's that same fighting spirit. We do have a couple of areas of the pitch, don't we? Where where we do have players fighting. Not many areas, but we do have some areas, the wide areas, the central midfield areas. >> There are players that can make a difference coming on to if they are brought on that. We saw that last week with Hayden Hackne. We've seen that. We saw it with Jack Greish. M um so there are there are you know for David Moyes I think he'll be enjoying and I think he'll enjoy going somewhere who has had the opportunity to spend a hell of a lot of money as well someone that has you know spent near on 300 million in summer 10 signings free transfers you know he'll he'll love that he'd love to go there and rub rub their you know their nose in it especially after what happened at the end of the season cuz I think that game at the end of the season I mean he said themsel, you know, they would have approached it differently if there was anything on it, which it's not what fans want to exactly hear, especially people who paid the money to go to the game. But >> I think there was a little bit of a that was I think that was humiliating the last game of the season. I think it was humiliating for him and his team >> to be the team that allowed Spurs to to stay in the Premier League. So, I I think he'll be, you know, not that he wouldn't be anyway, but I think he'll be so focused on trying to get something out of this game. I think I think the other the other point's probably more pertinent. He likes to look and go look what we spent and look what they spent. He'll love that. >> You know what I mean? If it it almost give it it doesn't cuz he wouldn't look at it like this. But it almost takes all the pressure off him cuz if he gets beat, >> he can go he spent 350 million or whatever we what you'd expect wouldn't be as black and white as that. You know what I mean? But I think if Evan get a positive result, he'll be like, well, yeah, you know, they've spent money, but we've we know how well we've done to get a result. So, it'll be a tough game. Like I said, they've got they've got really good players. Thankfully, Rich and K against us cuz they've made a habit of that lately. Um and Evan have got to go there and do exactly what they've done in their opening four games, which is be organized the way we have and take our opportunities when and and Bournemouth who right now are a better side than Spurs just right now. >> Um we should have been a couple of goals up at half time and we were one down >> albeit Palace. We could have been a couple down at our time and we won the game. So it's that sort of both ways. But we have we've dug in every Premier League game so far. We've dug in. Preston and obviously in the cup was a bit different. We put them to bed and you know we we probably should have scored eight or nine that night. We got four. So >> I think you'll be looking for the goals cuz that has been Everton's biggest this year I think over the last few years hasn't it? All be it we've got five in the opening three so far. And it set it sets up an interesting week as well, doesn't it? With obviously with Calabol Cup on Wednesday, you know, and then I switch next week, >> the last game >> big opportunity before you you know this is a big if Everton can >> get three positive results this week then >> and then go into that break, you know, it's an you see a draw as a positive result at the weekend or are you talking about winning the game? >> Um, obviously winning it positive. I I wouldn't be gutted if we took four points out of the two games. >> Okay. >> You will be if we beat >> WS beats. I want six. >> You won't be. >> But of course, it's how the game plays out, isn't it? And it's completely how the game plays out. But I I think it's too early. >> I think it's too early in the season to go, ah, they've had, you know, we should be going down there and destroying these. But then on the flip side that you could say, well, they haven't started well, and maybe maybe you should be beating them now. a little bit like Villa last season. >> Yeah. Yeah. >> Where it was a bit like, >> you know, they're trying to get themselves back sorted because you could sort of see that with Spurs last week >> going to Forest and and you know, you know, I think they should have lost the game really. The goal that got this for Forest was mad. >> Um if we're going to those end those levels now to disallow goals, I find that strenaging. But it is that thing of like [snorts] get away with the point and then we've got something to build on. So yeah, we'll see. You know, just how we approach the game, isn't it? It's how Moyes goes and approaches the game. So, >> [snorts] >> um, let's just have a look at the Spurs team that did D through n for us last week. I mean, look at the bench for a start. You know, Andy Robertson, Muhammad Cudas, Fernandez, Salanita, strong the lads who come on. I mean, strong players, aren't they? >> Um, you know, the the old 4231. So yeah, >> I think I think they're going to be they're going to be sort of difficult to break down >> because that's what he's trying to do to Zerby. He's trying to make them more solid. >> But Newcastle proved the last game at the at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium that >> you will get chances and you got to take them and Newcastle did that really well >> again, you know, and put them under pressure. And I think >> I think right now is a good time to play them. I really do. I think, you know, in six, eight weeks they might have clicked and be really difficult. Now, I think you make a really good point with the the Villa game last year. We I came out of that game at home >> really annoyed and I remember speaking to people outside who were like, "No, they're really good." And it was like, "They weren't really good, though. They were terrible. They were terrible. They they will be really good cuz they're a good side, but they were terrible and we didn't beat them." And that frustrated me. And I think >> and and maybe that's where Spurs are right now. Can we catch them cold? and and to go and win a game like this, I think it'd be a huge result for Evan just to keep the momentum and really give give everyone a big lift if they could. >> And James has picked out Mammoo as their danger man, which seems a bit early like, but >> no, I think he's I think he's a quality player. I mean, there's his stats from last season obviously while he was at Manchester City. 21 appearances, eight starts, he got three goals from next year, 2.71, he got three assists as well. and created six chances and his average rating was 6.94. So he's clearly a talented player. >> Yeah. >> Um let's hope that Everton tie him [clears throat] down on on Saturday and he doesn't really affect the game. Yeah. Let's have a look at the Evston with Manchester United on Sunday. Do do you see I mean obviously there is the subs who came on. Can you see those three players starting this game? It's really difficult this to know what's best to do. >> I can see a world where the manager goes with >> Maitlin Niles at right back and roll right side. >> Yeah. >> Or Ghana right back and roll right side >> and as Hack cuz I think Hackne >> really affected the game last week. I think he's the I don't think we've got a midfielder like him. I think he travels so well with the ball from deep links things and wants to play forward. And I don't think we have enough players that want to play forward. >> I think Harrison Armstrong's such a great athlete in there >> and he's still learning it. Jimmy's not fully fit, but a good way to get a minute is to have him at right back. And he did, don't forget get put to right back before he had to come off. So I it wouldn't surprise me if he leaves Jack Reish on the bench for this one. puts Tadik on the left and as Merlin in front of whoever's at right back >> to give us that and then Brennan Johnson is then the replacement for Tiero Barry after 65 70 minutes and that way you'd have a three of Armstrong Harrison Harrison Armstrong Hackne and Shbury Hall. >> The only worry with that is which one of them's really defensive mind where James Garner does that better than the others. So that's where I can't pick in in that midfield pick. I I I just think you'll leave James Garner. I think if it was if it was just cramp >> then that's not like that's >> that's not from a point of view of like an athlete >> cuz obviously there you go. Uh, no. So I could see maybe if he doesn't tinker with that midfield playing Maitlin Nars and role in front. I think he'll he'll look rather than going to George and and I don't think he'll be Brenon Johnson outright cuz I think he'll want him off the striker. So him replacing the forward. So for me it's the midfield. What does he do? Is Hackne it's Hackne or Ghana for me in that midfield? And I think he'll go with >> I think he'll go with Ghana and mate Niles are right >> and I don't think there's anything wrong with that. I think we're I think again it's it's coming to terms with the fact that it's a game it's a 90-minute game and we've been so you know we've we the end of the season we were so critical of the manager not making subs and that leading to what we had in the last six or seven games that >> surely this is what we want. It's a your team now is is you know 16 men it is >> one playing an hour then another one playing the last half and affecting it like Hackne did affecting it like Jack Leis did affecting it like m did in a different way of course >> but that's football now you've got to you know what would you do I know you're going to picky star but what would you do with that midfield because >> I mean I don't know I don't know what I think if James G >> then I'd start him just leave him >> I just don't see hackne the bench still for you still the bench but I think That's because he can finish games strong. He can find the holes late on in games because of the fatigue of other players. And I think >> just while he's getting up to that thing as well, >> as I said, there's no point sitting and bemoning the fact that we don't have a squad and then having a squad and not using the I just don't think James see you could look at James Garner and go, >> do you know last 20 minutes if you like one n up or two nil up him coming off the bench and just sitting up would be >> protecting it. >> Protecting would be fantastic. But it's getting into that position whether you feel like you're really going to get and also he's not like a number six either you know he's not he's not a number six is he? So so I could see and as you said I I just don't think I don't think Bernardon Johnson will start. >> No. >> Um and I think there are options different options not saying I'm not saying you know the right back situation is sorted now. I'm not sure m is just going to fill in straight away >> but he is a right back. But he is a right back. >> No. >> And I can see Ro offering a bit more defensive stuff for Moyes for that. It's cuz I suppose looking at it his idea will probably be >> still be in the game at 65. >> Yeah. Yeah. >> And then it can be Jack Leish or Brennan Johnson through the middle or Tyler Dibling. Who knows? >> But it could be those two and Hackne and maybe that's the [clears throat] little kick. >> Of course. If it's if it's if Ro starts on the bench then again that's another option >> you know and we forget that when he's playing right back that he's a midfielder and we've lost an option there in midfield and and having lost obviously left and left and no guard we haven't seen yet >> there might be times and look at Harrison Armstrong of the weekend he played great but that last 20 minutes when he's on a booking >> it might have been the worst thing to take him off and so it gives us options, doesn't it? It gives us lots of options and you've got to use what you've got because what's the point of >> Well, if you don't then bemoning the lack of signings and bemoning a squad doesn't make sense. >> And and and what happens when you need those players and they come on and they're rusty, you know, you're going to we're going to have to cycle through this squad. Don't we want to be not not necessarily talking about this game, but don't we want to be >> as fans as well >> surprised by some of the scene selections positively? Do you know what I mean? walk and go didn't like I didn't think he was going to play today or but we we don't want to go well we know who the 11 is every week >> and we know what time the subs are we want to go >> he's got options and and when no guard is fit after the international break >> he's got six midfield players who I'm happy with all of them and and whatever makeup you do >> and and then obviously the wide players and stuff so I think I think fans are more will be >> more comfortable with them making those changes when we see him making those changes who single player front. I think you know he could go for Brennan Johnson but I imagine it be Tier O'ar. The other one of course as well is and a few people have highlighted this is is obviously O'Brien and Tarovski because >> I think right now it's still going to be tak but that's certainly an area if I'm thinking I'm having your position and I imagine he'll start against Wolves but that's got to be his mo now. there's a right back there now focus on Taki and then getting maybe that partnership with Blake. I think right now though it'll still be tak I think I think >> get an opportunity and when he gets an opportunity he's got to take it and that's another part of position another part of the pitch where maybe the manager's got to adjust his thinking as well and think there might be times in a game where the last 10 minutes he brings a center back on and takes a center back off. It's >> it's starting to become another position that you know I know for years it was never looked at but you've got to start you've got to go got to go with the times. They've got a game you you should be scared of there. >> Yeah, they got two points so far. One one point they lost the first two points. So, let's go and extend the league between us. If we're going to if we want to be fighting up towards the higher up the league, then go and put some real distance between us.
