Video summary
The 0-0 draw between Tottenham Hotspur and Everton at the Tottenham Stadium highlighted a persistent issue for the visitors: a distinct lack of clinical finishing quality that has plagued them in away fixtures this season. Despite Everton controlling significant portions of the game and creating clear-cut chances, particularly through the partnership of James Garner and Tyrone Mings, they failed to convert their opportunities into goals. The hosts dominated possession with 14 shots compared to Everton's 12, yet only managed two on target, while Everton had three on target but none found the net. This inability to break deadlocks or capitalize on defensive errors suggests that while the team possesses decent technical ability, they lack the sharpness and composure required to win tight matches away from home, a trait often seen in other clubs where players score from seemingly nowhere.
A major point of contention discussed was the management of substitutions, specifically regarding Tyrone Dibling, whose limited involvement frustrated many fans given his high transfer fee and potential. The hosts felt that the tactical decisions made by the manager were questionable, particularly when he brought on Jack Harrison to replace Brennan Johnson instead of utilizing Dibling or other attacking options earlier in the match. This approach seemingly painted the team into a corner, as removing their primary wide threat without immediately replacing him with another dynamic winger left them vulnerable and limited their ability to change the game's momentum. The conversation emphasized that with a squad size that should allow for more flexibility, the manager needs to commit to giving young players like Dibling meaningful minutes to build confidence and end product, rather than leaving them on the bench or using them in roles where they struggle to create chances.
Defensively, Everton secured a clean sheet thanks largely to an outstanding performance by Jared Blandy, who was named man of the match for his exceptional defensive contributions, including nine blocks and four clearances. His presence elevated the entire backline, allowing the team to absorb pressure effectively after a chaotic start where they conceded early momentum. However, the goalkeeper Jordan Pickford faced a difficult night, making several crucial saves against Tottenham's relentless high press, though his distribution was criticized for being erratic at times. While the defense held firm, the overall narrative of the match remained one of disappointment for Everton, as they missed out on three points in a game where they arguably deserved to win or at least secure a victory given their dominance in key moments and the quality of their defensive display.
Ultimately, the result leaves Everton sitting on four points from six games, which is viewed as an acceptable but unsatisfactory start to the season given their ambitions to finish in the top five or six. The hosts acknowledged that while they are happy with a point in difficult away environments like Tottenham's stadium, this pattern of not scoring goals needs to change immediately. The team has shown they can compete and defend well, but they must find a way to translate their possession and defensive solidity into offensive output. As the season progresses, the manager will need to refine his substitution strategy and ensure that all squad members, especially expensive signings like Dibling, are given the opportunity to prove their worth, as failing to do so could lead to unnecessary frustration and missed opportunities in crucial fixtures ahead.

Welcome to Topy TV. It's the final where
Tottenham Hotspur nil Everton nil the
Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Saturday
night.
It a lot of people said it was time for
Dr. Everton. I people calling it
>> Tottenham hadn't scored a goal and
whatever.
>> Tottenham hadn't scored a goal
>> and they still haven't scored a goal
after the game.
That's Is that a little tiny win with a
little W?
>> I know you know you look at it, doesn't
it? I've seen a few people say
>> like
>> after the record we've got there,
>> I I will I take a point. M
>> but isn't that why we've got a record at
all these places in many ways is that we
we we we are happy to take a point at
some of these places even when we
deserve or even not even we didn't
deserve to win but even when you think
we can go and do these isn't that why
our record so bad at these places cuz
we're not willing to go for it the last
15 minutes
>> I think what we went for I didn't see I
just don't think we've got the quality I
think that's the problem I think look at
>> I think but yeah I mean we'll come on to
that show but I think it's more of that.
I don't think we we sat back anymore
talking about for nothing. No.
>> So, I think it's just a lack of quality.
If we'd have had better finishing,
>> we're sitting here talking about a
two-nil away and we'd all be made up
with that, wouldn't we? So,
>> I understand your point and I think in
some games, absolutely, it's that's
correct. I don't know about Saturday. I
don't know whether it was that or
>> I don't know. I I don't think we played
particularly well and I think it was the
worst performance of the four in terms
of putting bits together. I think in all
of the other three games I think we've
had spells where we've put the bits
together. I don't think we did that
particularly well on Saturday but
>> I'll be honest mate after the opening 15
minutes had a bit your hand off at
>> nil nil. No, it was tough.
>> We started the game awfully like really
badly. Um he just saying on the live
today reminded did the leads last year
the same we just kept giving the ball
back. Wasn't even really anything Spurs
were doing. We just kept giving them the
ball back and so I don't I mean you
might be right. I don't know. I just
think it's more to me it's more of a a
lack of quality at at key moments in the
game and you see other clubs going other
places and
getting goals from nowhere and and get
those wins. you know, another team might
have gone there at the weekend and and h
someone and just had that moment where
they get a goal and they hang on gone.
We we don't seem to do that too often.
>> No, it is it is quality, isn't it? It
comes down
even though our left back got man of the
match and I'm not having a go with our
left back
>> this week. Um Crystal Palace all I
switch all three goals come from their
left left back like that. Do you know
what I mean? Sometimes that's what their
left backs were getting praised last
week cuz they scored the goals with full
that beat them.
>> Yeah.
>> So it's it's it's
>> you look at that and think that's
sometimes what we just don't have. We
don't have sometimes like a well not
sometimes all the time. Don't have that
one player who or or a player will do
something that
>> um that can just break that break a game
like that in four in in other positions.
Four positions. Yeah. But all right. And
that's why obviously making the N's goal
was so sort of strange last week because
you're not used to seeing that.
>> But we just don't have that at times
where someone else can break the the
deadlock for us. You know, I don't know
James Garner pick him up and just like
it's ve very far few and far between
that you get like a James Garner just
smash him on him or or Harrison we yet
to see him get a goal. You know what I
mean? So it's
>> we're we're very reliant on a on a
pocket of players, aren't we? And if
they don't score, then we're not likely
to score unless it is like a set piece
and one of the center backs can get on
the end or something. No, I think it's I
think that's spot on. And
>> you know, the heat goes on to to Thiago
Barry, but our wingers don't score
>> and so there is there's a collective
responsibility they're all going to have
they're all going to have to take. Um,
obviously the team
>> Men Ro was missing.
>> Yeah,
>> that was a bit of a surprise to me. I
don't know whether other people knew but
it was a surprise to me that he wasn't
in the squad so he was out. Maitelland
Niles came in which I'd have had him in
anyway but I think what he might have
done he might have played role ahead of
him in this one
>> but Maitlin Niles come in Brennan
Johnson stayed on the right hand side
and obviously Tyreek went back to the
left and
like I said we just the opening 10 or 15
I mean Cino seemed to fancy it against
Michenko early on and he went past them
easily a few times and the Miko
definitely grew into the game and by the
end they locked down But those fair, you
know, Fernandez was getting in little
pockets of space where he was on his own
and
>> couple of, you know, maybe when they're
fully confident they'd take a shot a
second earlier and you might be under
pressure, but we were rocking in that
opening without Jordan pick to make all
sorts of saves.
>> Spurs did start the game particularly
well. Good tempo.
>> Yeah, but you know what? It was almost
like too frenetic for them
>> in many ways. It was like it was there
was like it was just so much it was
chaotic and it it didn't really
it it meant that our back line became
like
almost like like emergency mode and
getting blocks in and and it didn't it
didn't really create too many
opportunities. I think the only one it
really created or a couple the one where
James Garner got back and then there was
another one where the lag got in and he
had so much time and space and then
shutter got a C under his feet and then
allowed him maybe to get him but but
apart from that they didn't as you s
they didn't have they didn't make Jordan
pick make any saves and it was just it
was very chaotic. It was just it was
just them going, "Well, we're just going
to pressure you really really high and
force you to turn the ball over."
>> And it just felt like we could could
never get our never get our breath back.
>> Um,
but once we sort of got through that,
>> then they didn't offer anything. It was
like it was like they' used up all their
energy bars. We've done that, haven't
we? I've seen Everton do that in some
games where you start welling and it
doesn't you don't get it and you you
start doing other things when you're
thinking I'll keep doing what you're
doing. They only really had that half
chance in the first half which Van put
over it sat up
>> and he put it miles over the bar early
didn't he and
>> I think James Garner got to grips with
it early on they had obviously Tali and
Fernandez. There was a lot of talk about
those two obviously the pair of them
>> you know those two transfers alone are
more than Everton's whole team. Yeah,
>> once Ghana got to grips with it and
Armstrong and
they sort of disappeared from the game a
pair of them. They'd be worried if you
were a Spurs fan if they're that easily
out the game. But
>> from our perspective, we had a Maitlin
Nile shot with his left foot which
fizzed about 30 foot wide but fair play
the shot. You know, that was the first
one. We had a James Ger free kick which
Kinsky
>> did well enough, you know, needed to
bounce a little bit earlier in front of
him to catch him, didn't he? But he
watched it all away and pushed it wide.
But we we were doing that thing as well
though when we got into good areas. We
were wasteful or we slowed it down. had
to go in the corners like we big team
and go and get a corner and we've got a
set piece coach and obviously they're
trying different things which is fine
but no problem with that but you it's so
important to get your delivery right
isn't it when you especially if you've
been on the back foot a little bit and
then you go and get a corner got to try
and put the
>> really seen any like alteration in set
pieces are we
>> there was just one where we took it
shorts and it came in at a different
angle but that was it I don't even think
it came in I think it was flat and got
cleared
>> yeah I I don't know. I'm not Yeah, I
haven't seen any evidence of a set piece
coat so far.
>> There's definitely one though.
>> No, there is one. There is one, but I've
not seen any evidence on the page.
Everything just seems the same.
>> Just seems putting it into the box. Um,
>> yeah, someone was talking about it the
other day. Can't remember who it was.
Someone was talking about it and
>> like zones and everything just like it
just seems like it's more defensive.
>> Coleman.
>> Yeah, it was Coleman. Yeah, it was
Coleman, wasn't it? It was it sounded
like it was more just dealing with the
defensive side of things and and and
knowing where you need to be. I didn't
don't think we've seen anything off
offensively yet. They were
>> they were slightly better than the the
one we took down there last year or
sorry earlier last season, sorry. But
>> no, we um no big side our set pieces are
still pretty pretty poor. Like we don't
>> we don't do anything that really
>> really aids us. Although the what we saw
one did we see one go with where Brande
got the little flick early on the goal
from the goal he made the save that's
the only one I've seen so no apart from
that there's very little else so yeah it
was
>> it was just I suppose it was just get to
our time nil nil and then be happy with
that because of how frenetic the start
was but did we a bit surprised that we
didn't use Johnson's pace a bit more
against Robertson you saw one moment in
the second half when the ball got played
and he just left them for dead. I think
they like come across or I think they
got to block him. But
>> thinking let's let's try and get on, you
know.
>> I think a lot of that's reliance on Ger
picking the ball up in the right areas,
isn't it? I don't think the diagonal
works on on there's just not enough
space if you're playing it that deep.
The fullback can see it for far too long
in the air and he's not going to get
beaten like on
>> unless you're mate Len in the opening 10
minutes when he lost Robertson a couple
of times. But
>> you shouldn't you shouldn't be you
shouldn't be leaving that space. So that
I think that's more reliant on Garner
playing those balls. But
>> maybe it's just an early days for
Brennan Johnson and we're not we're not
in that position yet where we've quite
got to grips.
>> The worst thing you can even the worst
thing you can do we spoke about this is
try and think that we're going to play
him in the same way that we played in
Jai. It's just not going to work. He's
not a dribbler.
>> No, not at all.
>> And he's just a runner,
>> is he? He's a runner. He's not without
being I don't think it's disrespectful
to say he's not technically brilliant
>> but is is he he's got an eye for goal
which he's proven through his career
>> and he's got a good turn of pace and
there there is this sort of positive
aspect. He's not going to take a ball in
tight in crowded areas and come out with
with good dribbling cuz if that's his
game and J was
>> unbelievable at that was in Ji's game.
Give it me when I'm under pressure and
I'll come out with two or three men and
just walts beyond them. But hopefully
when Johnson gets into a rhythm, he can
get on the end of things at maybe the
back post and start scoring or we can
get the pace going. But you're right, we
can't use him and exactly the same way
maybe did with him cuz it won't work.
>> No, no, it won't. Um,
>> yeah, it relies on Ghana being a little
bit higher up the pitch. I don't think
and trying to get him in between the
center back maybe as well and the
fullback. But then maybe that's again
maybe that's more on Juju Hall as well
because of where he plays to do that.
But
>> I don't know. I don't know whether that
fits the way we play. I don't know
whether you've got the players to get
the most out of him, but he's just going
to have he's just going to have to
persevere, isn't he? Cuz
>> as we saw on Saturday,
>> it only takes missing one player and
obviously we've got two missing players
and we've got to notice a goalie on the
bench. So, it's it's like, you know,
it's going to be used. That's the point
is they're all going to be used one way
or another. And we saw that in the team
that finished the game. They're going to
have to they're going to have to fill in
>> fill in in different roles and be
prepared for that. And that's
>> how do we get the best out of them in
those roles.
>> Yeah.
>> Come out for the second half and they
they were on the front foot again. I
think the Zerby had a little go but
>> didn't really create you know a few
crosses into the box and we
>> we'll deal with that all day won't we
with Tarovski and Brandweight and it was
comfortable and I think the
disappointing thing for me was
>> we got through that first sort of ten
again not like we had to get through it
but you know what I mean we didn't give
anything silly away and it was time for
a sub
>> definitely because we just didn't really
start getting on the front foot but
>> we'd have one moment with Ty
where we fed them the ball and he faced
Arty Gray up and left him for dead and
stood it up brilliantly.
>> Oo Barry gets the header in and it's the
goalie so fortunate. It's the keeper on
the top of the head and goes out for a
corner and from that corner Tyreek has
the left foot shot which Benor blocks. I
think the keeper would have probably
shaved it anyway but he hits it well
>> and then you're thinking it's just
there's a sub we need that little change
will get on and get hold of it. Jack's
ready to come on and he takes Tar George
off instead of Brennan Johnson who you
know like I've just said we get the best
out of him use him in a certain way but
we saw how successful George was last
week
>> but this is like what we talking about
last week isn't it
>> with having so few players Moyes is
going to have to work work out how to
get the best out of the subs that he
uses. So you obviously you only get the
three windows. So you've got to So in
the three windows, you know, five five
play obviously bring the five players
on.
>> But you've got to like look I I think
again listen I'm not a manager and and
you know not not saying I know more than
Mo of course I don't but that we we're
watching the game change all the time.
football change. And I just think you've
got to give more thought to like the
whole game and how you're going to use
your subs if you've only got such a
limited squad. And and what I mean by
that is
>> the minute he brings Ty George off and
he knows he's going to bring Brennan
Johnson off within 5 minutes,
>> you snook it. You've snookered yourself.
>> Yeah. Now, I thought when he brought
George off that he was going to put
Bernardon Johnson up front and he was
going to take maybe Barry off with like
seven on 70 minutes. He'd run run
himself to the into the ground quite a
lot and the long ball wasn't really
working anymore.
>> When he took Brenon Johnson off, I was
like, well,
>> you've you've put you've painted
yourself into a corner.
>> Yeah. Yeah. Like like you're gonna if
you kept Ty George on,
>> took Brennan Johnson off, Brock Greish
on, now you've got two wingers,
>> give Tyreek George 10 extra minutes just
to see how he does on the other side cuz
that's maybe all he needed was to
freshen himself up and play on the other
side.
>> But at least now you're going to there's
a possibility of finishing the game with
two wingers. Yeah.
>> But he doesn't. So
>> this is where I don't this is where I
don't quite understand cuz then you
bring on Okay. you bring on you male
isn't fit enough so he comes off and you
bring Jake on. totally understand that.
But at the same time, you could have
gone, well, you know what, maybe James
Garner could finish the game at right
back and maybe
>> Hayden Hackne can finish the game at
center midfield now. And you've given
yourself loads of options. But I just
thought
>> once he took Tikov and he's not going to
bring Diblin on then he's just he's
limited how many changes he can make and
because he's going he's making them
almost like one by one
>> and there in it's like
that's not happening I don't think in
football anymore. I think it's more like
people looking and going well with the
first one we'll get two on because then
we've made good use of that first window
brought two on someone even bringing
three on now I wouldn't expect Moyes to
do that especially when we join nil nil
but it was such a strange sub just I did
it and and we've ended up then with
Hackne playing on the right Jake playing
behind them and obviously Gish on the
left but we've limited ourselves and
that's what disappointed me more than
anything because like I don't think Ty
would
I think he's one of those players that
>> he only needs one moment.
>> Of course. Yeah,
>> he only needs one moment. I think I
think he's he's good enough to take the
player on and he's quick enough and
he'll make something happen. It wasn't
happening in the game, but he wasn't it
wasn't like he was knackered.
>> Just Oh, that was I thought that was
just a strange decision cuz as I said, I
think it just it limited what he could
do from then on.
>> I think I think you're right. As in if
he was going to then end up with Brennan
Johnson through the middle,
>> then all right, fair enough. you you
don't think Zary's having a good go
whatever even though he had carved the
best chance we'd had out
>> um then okay take him off then
>> and go with what you went but he didn't
he just just wait a five minutes or
something to take Brenon Johnson off
>> 10 minutes
>> you know and ends up with Barry
>> just running around anyway and and
>> but then us not having players to create
him an opportunity he's never going to
get the ball
>> and do what say Liam Dap did the other
day is he
but he's never going to do that is he
he's not really he he's a penalty box
striker or he'll get on the end of a you
know header or something he's not going
to pick the ball up 25 yards out run
across smash it in with his right foot
into the bottom corner and win us the
game not that I've seen anyway
>> so therefore when you take your wide
players off and okay put Jack on which
is fine
>> but you've took off the threat on the
other side then Hayden Hackne's having
to play a role he's not really used to
in the Premier League.
>> I'd understand that if we were winning 1
nil or 2-0 and he's like I'm just going
to see it out. I don't care. It's my
responsibility to try to go and get
three and four. My responsibility is to
get Everton three points.
>> So, it was one of them, but it was he he
I think in the end he's given Hackne
more minutes in the Premier League, but
he had backed himself into a corner by a
poor sub. In my opinion, I think tidy I
think and should have come off. In my
opinion,
>> this is the problem though. I mean, you
know, we can
people can talk about it. Players can
talk about it about the size of the
squad or the quality of the squad. It
doesn't it doesn't matter if you've got
19 brilliant players like the best
players
>> if they're not doing it or they're tired
or they pick up an injury or whatever it
is if you don't have another player in
that position. And this is the problem
with Barry. If you've already committed
yourself to Brennan Johnson, starting a
game and not finishing the game, then
what does that do?
>> That leaves you with I'm I'm not and I
don't think Barry was like out on his
feet or anything,
>> but going long to him wasn't working.
Like you just said, if there's no
creativity,
>> you need to change it. So the manager is
going to have to start making these
decisions where he looks at it and says,
"Well, Brennan Johnson isn't starting
because he's our backup striker or he
will leave him on and he's going to end
up finishing there."
>> Or wacky idea.
>> Mhm.
>> Just throw the under 21 striker on for
the last 10 minutes.
>> Maybe there's another just like a game.
>> Well, there's an under 21 midfielder who
was taken and wasn't even putting on the
putting on the bench for another go.
>> I get that. But what I'm saying is and
he did score on Sunday all the way all
the way. Did he just stay in London?
Surely
>> um
>> but if you're going to do that then you
know maybe throw Braden Graeme on for
eight minutes or something as a wild
card and say look just
>> we're going to play balls in just I know
he's up against Van that's what I'm
saying though it's like
>> he's going to it's like almost like a
puzzle isn't it? You're going to have to
surely surely when he was taken when
surely when these the bank of assistants
are sitting there surely they don't when
they're taking off a play on the 65th
minute surely they know who the next sub
is going to be 10 minutes later or the
next two sub or surely they're looking
at it getting Jake ready to go right
you're going to come on for mate Nars we
know what know why
>> surely they're looking at Brenon Johnson
and going right he'll probably again cuz
he hasn't played that much football
they're looking at going right he'll 75
minutes out of him and we already know
we're replacing him with. I I find I
just find some of the decisions slightly
strange that you've got five subs but
you only use three. You see the reality
and the other thing they could have done
and I know
me mate Dave who uh who is a football
coach and has coached against silent
they bling in the academy
>> when he was at forest and stuff who says
he's better through the middle like he
could be a psyker.
>> Yeah. Why not throw him on for Barry
with eight seven eight nine minutes
we'll see about 30 I'll pre
>> change the way we play
>> just have someone and go well we're
gonna give it into your feet
>> spin them and go go you know with all I
mean the the reality is we Tyler Dibling
for whatever reason isn't a viable
option for the manager for whatever
reason as a right winger
>> as a left winger it seems and and
obviously neither through the middle as
a striker either cuz
that and again I'm not saying Tier Barry
was terrible needed to be taken. I
actually thought he'd done all right. We
just didn't give him anything and he's
when you're running around on your own
up front which is what he was doing for
most of the game it is hard isn't it?
But but it's worrying that with a squad
the size that we've got
>> that the manager is not committing
to even like 5 minutes for some of these
players. And I know how important it is
to try and get a point out of this game.
And I totally understand.
I totally understand
like building up to, you know, you if we
beat if we beat Switch, we it will be a
good
>> be a good set of fixtures, won't it? And
and maybe, you know, if he starts
dibbling against walls
>> again, that might play a part in it. Oh,
it just feels it feel if we've got a 35
million pound player sitting on the
bench and it's just it just seems it
just seems so weird, doesn't it? So
strange that a player who
>> had a good a good end to the preseason
isn't getting any opportunities. I just
I find the whole thing really really
strange. Player who's played in the
Premier League. Like I just I just I
can't be eight cuz Tyreek's younger than
him. So Har so it can't be an age thing,
isn't it?
>> So for whatever reason, either Tyler's
not doing what the coaching staff want
him to do in games, he's not saying
information on he's switching off
whatever
>> or they're just not seeing the quality
that they they
>> they thought we thought he had. But
it's it's frustrating because the
there's a player that we paid a lot of
money for.
>> We're in that zone again after only four
or five games where we're sitting here
going, "Well,
>> what's the point? We're not don't like
there's nothing rant and raving about
him not coming on the pitch."
>> No, no, because
>> what's the point? No one's
>> Well, he's a forward player and was
short in the form.
>> No one's seen enough of him in the
Premier League to make that decision.
Okay. People will go, "I saw him against
Preston. He was he was rubbish." I
against Preston. I thought I thought he
was in and out like most wingers are and
think he's a player who's massively low
on confidence who needs games of
football.
>> So then should we have loaned them out?
>> Again, that's another question. But
could we loan him out with the size of
the squad? We loaned out as new.
>> Yeah.
>> No, we loaned out as we haven't got any
backup backup left back. So it's it
really is difficult, isn't it, to like
put your finger on what what's going on
there, you know? I just I find it I find
it very very strange. But you know,
listen, it's very early in the season.
>> Yeah.
>> And hopefully the manager will
>> he's gonna have to he's gonna have to
grow into making these changes. He's
gonna have to get his head around. It
might be five subs. Now, he might not do
that till Norard's available and rolls
back, but
>> other teams are doing it and you have to
come up with ways. But I understand the
frustration of of Evertonians as well
cuz I'm one of them. It's that them
attacking areas were key. It's why I was
saying deadline day, we need a winger
and a striker. If we're letting
>> NJ go out, there isn't Jack Reish for
NJ. It had to be Jack Reish and another
winger
>> on the right hand side because quite
clearly we could all tell
>> Tyler Dibling was never getting the nod.
>> So, you know, he's going to have to
start proving himself. Tyler, I think
somehow
>> he's got to be given the opportunity and
I think he'll play against Wolves and
he's he's got to show up well and maybe
>> boss David Moyes is thinking into going
actually this lad isn't is a viable
option. This is a lad who played away at
Burnley and away at forest for us last
season though and
>> Evan didn't concede the goal. We we got
four points out of the six. So the m
thing is his possession stats are
normally really really good. So he
doesn't lose the ball. So what is where
does the trust element come? problem
with him is I've said I think I've been
consistent with this
>> is he never seems to know what he's
going to do when he beats the man.
There's no sort of end product and it's
not end product that
>> you know he's putting the crosses into
the south stand or whatever. I'm talking
about there's no end product. There's
not even an end product for him to get a
shot away. Like I was really shocked
against Leo when he cut in and had a
shot and the keeper tipped it over
because he and it'll be confidence that
>> he he just doesn't do that. He he
normally would look to pass that and he
didn't. I was made up and I think he had
another one where he went on a run and
tried to bend it and it was too close to
the goalie. I want to see him do that.
He hit the post to well sorry forced a
really good shape and the keeper of
pressed and sounded like he hit the post
>> at the game. Um so I think maybe it's
that maybe the manager's looking going
well you're not you're not committing a
defender and getting crosses in and
you're committing a defender and getting
shots in or playing little through
balls. So what are you actually
bringing? Yes, you might not give the
ball away. Yeah, you might work back and
help your fullback out, but you're not
doing anything the other way.
>> But thing about it is, let's be honest,
most of this is based on what he does in
training, not what he's doing in games.
Played enough games.
>> Yeah.
>> You know, you can't say you haven't done
that in the You didn't play again.
>> Well, maybe he's not doing it in
training.
>> I mean, I have no idea.
>> No, I know. But that's that's
>> all I know is every time he plays, I am
willing him more than believing he's
going to do it. Do you know what I mean?
I'm almost like
>> Yeah. Yeah. Almost like just come on
lad. We know it's in there. Draw it out.
But I don't know how you draw it out. I
really don't if he's he's either gone
where it just doesn't work. I mean I
seen a thing about whether I put in a
group. Someone had done a thing
Liverpool bigger Liverpool count about
words saying then we just all got to
accept he's a he's he's just a flop.
He's a big money flop.
>> Every club has it. And I was like
>> I hope that's not going to be Tyler
Dibling for us. I really cuz he's young.
He's a young player. But maybe the only
way the lad ever gets
>> Bruce himself is the manager has to just
go go ahead go and do it.
>> He should be a viable option on Saturday
when Brennan Johnson was coming off. It
should have been Tyler Dibling
>> because that's where he plays
>> or even Yeah. But the thing about it is
though
>> or even up front.
>> He could have been brought on in the
last like say 5 minutes
>> but like Harrison Armstrong
>> and Hackne goes and plays in midfield.
>> Yeah. Yeah.
>> And then you've got
>> Yeah. you you've just and then you're
making think of something think of
something a little bit different for the
last five minutes which is having two
wingers on and
>> a different kind of center midfielder
who's going to drive through the middle.
See, I wouldn't I wouldn't mind it as
much if I thought, yeah, but you know,
against like Ipsswitch or against other
Crystal Palaces of the world or
whatever, that's what he'll do. He'll go
like really offensive, but you look and
go,
>> he probably wouldn't do it in them games
either right now cuz it doesn't look
like he's got any trust in him. Now, the
manager might sit here and go,
>> I have. It's just different courses for
courses. I don't know. But it doesn't
seem to play out like that, does it? Uh
Everton did have two big moments though
in the game where
>> which is where that I wouldn't say two
points dropped but it's where you go
there was an opportunity there to win.
Um so let's have a look at the stillson
the first one this is the K and Jbury
all chance which is which Everton do
really well to fashion themselves all ti
Barry you can see there's gone um that's
just run across the ball went back to
kinsky he presses bol it's it's just go
back one sector it's supposed to go to
tanali we've got circle there's b all's
alive to it it goes on kan goes and cuts
it out barry's there comes around now
got two options here. He comes back onto
his left foot and you can see the whole
goal is open. Look where the goalie is.
Now you either you can think if we go on
again you know this is where he pulls
the trigger to shoot but go to the next
one Jay which is behind I think it is.
This is the no the other way. Sorry mate
there. Now if we look at this I mean
look at Barry.
>> Yeah.
>> Is it the next one? I've done a thing J.
It isn't it? But the next one if he
rolls that there tier Barry can just
side foot it in
>> the nap or if he's going to take it
himself he has to lift it.
>> Yeah.
>> He has to get height on that and just
dink it. If it goes past Kinsky it's a
goal isn't it? It's all he has to do
>> you know and um I know on commentary as
well he was saying why didn't he just
roll it square for a tap in
>> you know you win one n so that was a big
moment and I think
>> he scored a brilliant goal day one
against Palace from nothing. But I just
think right now and I think
>> he put something on his Instagram,
didn't it, with it'll click
>> and I feel like he knows it just hasn't
quite gone for him right right now. He's
always he always works hard, puts the
effort in. He's got that quality.
>> But I think in we need him to start
getting the goals and and he was
obviously key in creating the other big
opportunity which we can see here now.
Um there we go. So we've got him in a
nice pocket of space there. James
Garner's got the ball. He's just pulled
in between. I said that's O'Neal as
well. And Arty Gray take it on and
Garner threads him through. He just lets
the ball roll past them and then he's
going to attack that space
goes in. He's going to cut that back to
the penalty spot and we got Brennan
Johnson circled who's in a absolutely
great position
>> for the whole to to see the whole
picture that's rolled square. And when
you see him running onto it and the
whole goal is open,
>> you're thinking,
>> you know, either take a touch out your
feet and just guide it or first time
just put it in that far corner. But you
can see Brennan's body shape there.
>> He's opened his foot too much. So the
natural angle of the ball is to go away
to the right.
>> And when you see when it went on, you
could see obviously look where the
ball's ended up there and the Everton
fans early and he knows how good the
opportunity it is because
>> he's got his head in his hands and
He had time sadly had time to let it
come off his body and just guide it in.
He had even at no bar square which
you're never going to do are you? But
>> you know that was a huge huge moment.
One of those going.
>> Yeah.
>> Then you'd like to think Evan would have
seen it out and got the three points.
>> It's always the case though, isn't it?
Like especially the first one. I don't
understand why players don't take them
first time. I just don't understand.
Don't understand why they don't just
kick through it first time. But
>> it's um
>> Yeah. And then yeah, I thought Bren
Johnson should have done so much better.
Really should have hit the target.
>> Yeah, keeper makes a great save. You go
you can really do about that. But it was
a big moment. That would have been a
great moment for him, wouldn't it?
Premier League goal at Spurs and all
that.
>> But you know, we they only really had
one more chance after I mean Jordan
Pigford's kicking all day was terrible.
>> He's one of the Saints of James. I think
he's one of them. Jordan Pickford. If he
gets his first one right, he's sort of
on it and his passing's great. But if he
gets his first one wrong, he seems to
chase the pass all day. And it almost
gets worse. He get one out in the first
half when we we had acres of space and
he put it out. And
>> this one near the end, it's a right foot
and he kicks it straight to I think it's
Fernandez and
>> he goes on and whips the shot back and
he ends up having to save it.
>> I think it was going in.
>> It was going in.
>> And it's a really good save in the end.
But
>> yeah, it is a good save. Doesn't count
as a save
>> as far as I'm concerned. But it was
kicking was well off all day, wasn't it?
>> It was crap. It was No, it was just
crap. Just
>> just one of those days for him.
>> But he made the save.
>> Other than that, Spurs didn't nearly
have anything despite the money and the
changes they made. They should be
>> I'd be scratching me head if I was a
Tottenham fan thinking why do we hate
Richard Allison when he basically kept
us up last year. He's the only decent
striker we've got and we don't want him.
>> It's a bit mad for system at Sileni, but
there you go. There you go. But Edon did
keep a clean sheet. I gave man of the
match to Jared Brantweight. I think
Michenko started really poorly, but he
did get better and better as it went on.
But I thought Brande was absolutely
outstanding all day and and yeah, I give
him another match. So let's have a look
at his stats from the game and you go
86% passing accuracy, four blocks, four
clearances. He had nine defensive
contributions, won 60% of his ground
jewels, two ball recoveries. He had 10
line breaking passes and ended up with a
rating of 7.3. So I mean, how did you
how did you think Jared done? Because I
think I think I think Michenko had like
>> he had the most tackles.
>> More like standout moments, didn't he?
Like the blocks and the tackles. But but
Brande just just by his presence
>> just was head and shoulders better than
anybody I thought on the pitch.
um real confidence about him and just
makes the plays around him better I
think as well. So that was brilliant.
Certainly brilliant.
>> He's key isn't he? I think he's
absolutely key to anything Everton do
this season cuz he makes him and
Tarovski a good partnership. Obviously
O'Brien's going to he's got some minutes
now. So maybe he's back off the naughty
step now.
>> Um and hopefully he can force his way
into David Moy just thinking at center
back at some stage as well. Baki and
Brley are a good
>> are a good partnership and Jed makes
everybody better. So
>> I think it's absolutely key we keep him
fit. So yeah, nil nil nil nil at a
ground we don't generally do very well
at.
>> That's got to change at some stage. You
know, you should never have these runs,
should you? But it's the third game on
the run we haven't scored a goal
against. Spurs and they have been poor.
They're fans that say they've been poor.
>> Newcastle have won more games at that
ground than they in the year.
>> And in fact, we're the only team who
they've beaten in 2026, you know.
>> There you go.
>> So I didn't want it to be. We're the
only team they've beaten twice. You
know, we've beaten us twice. So, let's
have a look at the overall match that
from the game. Spurs nil, Everton nil,
14 shots to Tottenham, 12 to Everton,
and two on target for Spurs, three for
Evan and 0.69 XT for Tottenham, 1.11 for
Everton. Spurs had the possession. Well,
there was a couple of spells in the game
at Everton at 75 and 76% possession.
Well, I was going to say to be fair,
that first 20 minutes was like 75% spend
rate that back brilliantly.
>> M. So, yeah. I mean, so overall when you
step back from it, what are you
>> I'm disappointed. No, I'm disappointed.
I think
>> I think the game's there to be won.
>> So, I take a point, but I'm I'm I am
disappointed. We're never going to win
at these grounds if we just keep on
going. Oh, no. I draw. I draw fine.
Never. That's why we don't win at them.
So, I don't know. Listen, I people
whatever people want fine. I just I just
thought we could have won the game.
>> I think we could have won. I think it's
one of them where you go points all
right but when you look you go
>> that probably was a moment to get that
win and I mean last year we won at like
Old Trafford and Bournemouth and Villa
where we haven't won for you
>> that Newcastle was you know big win
maybe that was one opportunity but we do
have to have the quality the players
have got to step up. We've got what
we've got
>> and I like that they're tightknit and
there is quality there. There's no doubt
about this quality, but they've got to
come up with goals. They should all be
able to kick a ball sight, all of them.
So, that's what they've got to do. Kick
it straight into the net.
>> That's what we need. So, nil nil. And
again, if we just to finish, if we got
two home games this week, if we win the
both of them
>> and it'll be if it will be tough, don't
get me wrong, but if we win the both of
them, then, you know, Saturday night,
we'll go into that break in a good
place, you know, the fourth round of the
Carabell Cup. And I think if we win,
we'll probably be in the top five or six
going into that break. So I think you
know we we said last week during the
preview
>> we wanted six points but we got four it
wouldn't be a bad thing really and I'm
still on for that but
>> this might look a better point if we
beat Ipsswitch might
>> no it's still I'm still not having it
but but but yeah no listen if we go into
if we win on Saturday and we win against
Wolves then it'll have been a good start
to the season.
>> There you go. Let us know what you think
in the comments section below. bit
disappointed that we didn't take all
three points or are you happy that we
weren't the team that Spurs scored their
first goal against? You know, we got a
point. Let us know what you think in the
