TOP 1% Health Routine: How to Stay Healthy, Productive & Full of Energy
Watch on YouTubeVideo summary
Dr. Mark Leong, a Singapore-based health scientist and entrepreneur, asserts that maintaining vitality after age thirty requires a fundamental shift away from generic dietary advice toward the consumption of "real food." His philosophy was shaped by a personal tragedy involving his father's aggressive cancer treatment, which highlighted the limitations of conventional medicine and underscored the critical role of nutrition in longevity. Rather than relying on processed items like sugary cereals or yogurt that often contain hidden additives, Leong advocates for whole, recognizable ingredients such as grass-fed meat, organic vegetables, and fresh fish. He believes that true health is not merely about eating fruits but about understanding one's relationship with food to maximize productivity during key life windows, a lesson reinforced by his own experience of extending his father's life through alternative dietary support despite severe side effects.
To sustain high energy levels, Leong adheres to a disciplined daily routine that prioritizes sleep quality and mindful eating habits. He wakes up early between 6:00 and 6:30 AM, avoids checking his phone immediately upon waking to prevent mental drain, and exercises four times a week while strictly avoiding late-night workouts that could disrupt rest. His nutritional strategy involves eating only two meals a day—a light breakfast followed by a heavy lunch—and finishing dinner by early evening to allow proper digestion before sleep. While he acknowledges the necessity of supplements after thirty if dietary intake is insufficient, he warns against overdosing or using unverified products, recommending instead a targeted regimen of probiotics, magnesium, collagen, super greens, and fish oil based on actual blood and urine tests rather than unreliable DNA screenings.
Beyond physical health, Leong emphasizes that true success stems from self-awareness, passion, and the courage to walk one's own path rather than seeking quick financial exits or blindly following external advice. He turned down a lucrative acquisition offer because accepting it would have stifled his entrepreneurial spirit and prevented him from achieving greater fulfillment through scaling his business and pursuing an IPO with his partner. His approach to investments mirrors his health philosophy, focusing on fundamental understanding and genuine passion for a company rather than chasing emotional highs or superficial trends like cryptocurrency hype. Ultimately, he advises his audience to take immediate action to gain clarity, never stop pursuing what is personally important regardless of others' opinions, and recognize that living a purposeful life naturally generates wealth and satisfaction far exceeding mere monetary gains.

much Dr. M for being here and sharing
with us all your amazing insights.
>> Oh thank you for having me on your show.
I'm really excited about it. I'm looking
forward for all your viewers here to get
massive insights on how they can make
more money by first thing ensuring that
don't be healthy [laughter] you know and
yeah you know a lot of times people talk
about being healthy but I think it's a
wrong concept you got to understand why
why do you want to be healthy don't be
healthy be beautiful be younger be
stronger have more energy
>> then it's clearer right than a wider
word of being healthy
>> that is true right what is the specific
aspect of health that you want to
improve rather than just a generic
health health. Okay, very interesting.
We are definitely going to go into that.
The first question I have for you is
what make you zoom into health despite
all the other things that you can focus
on. Why health? Why this as an health
education that you're so passionate
about?
>> I didn't start my business or
entrepreneurship journey because I
wanted to get out of my corporate life.
Okay.
>> Uh in fact, I never thought about it at
all. Um, so what really hit me on the
turning point was uh one day we got a
call from my mom and while I was in
Germany and she said to me that my
father was having stage four cancer.
>> Oh no.
>> Right. Uh I flew back uh and the doctor
told us that he had around 6 months to
leave because he's aggressive stage
four. Um at that point of time I think
we all had never dealt with anything of
such impact and uh yeah we were trying
to do whatever we could and of course uh
the typical treatment is chemotherapy,
radiotherapy, more imunotherapy.
>> Um on the fourth month my father was
literally dying from the treatment
rather than the cancer. So we decided to
pull the plug.
>> That's true. I think the whole challenge
was that also the the medical cost was
insane, right? Whatever insurance is not
enough, you still have to, you know,
fork out money.
>> So, we find that it was really tough for
my siblings, myself and and every one of
us, right? So uh at a point of time we
tried alternative solutions like you
know speaking to different cancer
survivors doctors of other countries
like from US, Europe that has dealt with
terminal cancer patients and we found
that hey actually there is not just
about this treatment but the diet plays
a part the emotional support plays a
huge part.
>> We tried to make those changes and again
we are very blessed. I didn't expect
that that remaining two months my father
and all of us were blessed with the
privilege of extending his lifespan to
another four more years.
>> What?
>> Yeah. So
>> from 2 months to four more years
>> but of course that 4 years he couldn't
walk anymore. He became paralyzed. Um
the extension of life for us was a lot
right?
>> Yeah.
>> So that was how a lot of people started
asking what do you what do your father
do? Which doctor do you go to? What
treatment? That was where I realized
that there are many people that has gone
on a path of conventional treatment like
chemotherapy
>> and either they suffered badly or they
died halfway through the treatment
>> and people that didn't want to go for
that sort of treatment but they were
lost in terms of how should I eat what
should I do
>> so I decided that you know since
everyone was asking me I wanted to share
that
>> before we continue let me share with you

to the video. So I decided that you know
since everyone was asking me I wanted to
share that
>> and at at one point it was really
costing me a lot of energy time right so
I thought you know what I'm just going
to give my time but in exchange there is
certain cost
>> and then my my current co-founder which
is my partner amazing and she once said
you know what I think we can really
enjoy this phase of life where we don't
look at playing politics
>> because both of us were holding high
positions in a in a corporate uh MNC
>> and it's all about politics, right? How
well you play to be on top there. And at
a point of time was managing uh 3,000
over employees and a regional role.
>> Wow.
>> So the stress was insane, right?
>> So she said, "You know what? I'm not
going to see myself doing this for the
next 10, 20 years. Let's do something
meaningful."
>> So we jump into building farms Asia.
>> Okay.
>> That was how it started. I see.
>> And while we were still at the same time
doing uh our full-time job,
>> so that was how it started. And it was
tough. It was really tough with no clue
about business, entrepreneurship, P&L,
uh what else you name it, marketing,
sales, zero clue.
>> Yeah. So originally the farms Asia farm
it's still around, right? I saw the
website. So you initially started by
teaching people how to grow farm or what
what's that?
>> Oh no. So we we we started teaching
people with chronic conditions like
cancer, uh diabetes, high blood
pressure, high cholesterol, how you
should change your diet rather than
telling people, oh you got to eat
healthy, right? So uh we did that and of
course eventually we hired um amazing
chefs, many of them were from Master
Chef competition show.
>> Wow.
>> And to redesign plant-based food that
doesn't taste like cutboard. You know, a
lot of people want to eat healthy, but
you don't enjoy as in particularly
Singaporeans because you find that it's
too cold and I can't eat salad, right?
Even for me. So, I want to eat something
warm, something hot.
>> Yeah.
>> And we thought, you know what? Let's get
the best chefs to redesign that. Then,
of course, eventually we also bought
some farms. We started planting food.
But again, it was it was tough, right? I
didn't expect that. Um,
>> becoming a farmer was really tough. But
anyway, the the whole name of farms
>> because we wanted to bring people back
to basics, back to nature. Yeah,
>> that was the whole idea.
>> Wow, that is really beautiful. So, right
now I know that your business also start
to pivot a lot as well. So, I can see
that you are very passionate about
different kind of like products that you
have as well. So, I'm very curious,
right? Because based on a lot of things
I heard it's always like two sides of
the coin. Some people say it's good to
take supplements. Some people say no,
you should just naturally take uh you
know foods and then your body should be
able to absorb the nutritions and and
what's your take on that actually?
>> That's a good question. Yeah,
>> if you are younger means in your 20ies
you should focus on food unless you are
an athlete.
>> Now the moment you cross into 30s, 40s,
50s, the body start to decline, right?
And lifestyle plays a huge part.
>> Now there is only so much food that you
can eat in a day and because of that you
know most people think that I'm eating
healthy means I am healthy but actually
first thing they don't even know what
their body is deficient of. M
>> so the most important thing here is that
we don't blindly go and buy supplements
or eat a bunch of healthy food which you
think is healthy when the in fact it's
not go and do a test right know exactly
what your body is deficient of in terms
of minerals vitamins and nutrients right
now if I'm lack of protein
>> which is most common among Singaporeans
or Southeast Asians right we take a lot
of carbs
>> let's say if you need 140 grams of
protein in a day based on your breakfast
lunch and dinner can that amount that
you're eating right now
>> mm need that number. If the answer is
no,
>> then of course you have to rely on
supplement. So there is no good or bad
in terms of supplements or oh again
right leaning back oh should we go on
just full whole who wholesome meal diet
perfect if you can eat that content that
amount but it's almost impossible info
for me now it's really bad to again
assume that you can eat
and then go and eat a bunch of
supplements it doesn't work that way so
it's always that balance true
>> but my whole point here is that apart
from the balance like everything else
right you need to know what is in that
peel what is in that supplement a Lot of
people buying supplement because they
see that word vitamin C or calcium.
>> But again the danger here is that are
you overdosing.
>> Secondly you know are you buying
supplements that are legitimate means
they have gone through clinical studies
that have certain certification is part
of HSA approval.
>> This to me is the fundamental.
>> If you take all these boxes great
>> I see. Since you're talking about
health, right? What is the most
misconception
about health that like we often get
wrong? Like what is considered healthy
food? Like for example, in my opinion, I
think oh eating fruits are good, eating
berries, eating banana, they are
considered healthy, eating yogurt, they
are considered healthy. Am I correct or
am I wrong?
>> You you you are right.
>> But again, I wish that there was a as
simple as a black and white answer.
>> Okay.
>> I think today we are living in a very
complicated world, right? complicated in
a sense that today when someone asked me
uh is eating yogurt healthy
>> in general yogurt is supposed to be
healthy
>> but because of the demand the supply is
impossible for those companies to
produce a naturally fermented yogurt in
volume so and it has to taste great in
order for the general mass market to buy
y
>> so in order to do that what they do
sugar
>> they have to add sugar have to add
coloring right and they don't put real
strawberries in then preservatives is
that the shelf life has to go until one
year.
>> Yeah.
>> So if you are picking those sort of
yogurt definitely it's unhealthy. It's
like as good as you are drinking a a can
of Coke.
>> Yeah.
>> Right. So again I wish there was an
answer Chloe to say that okay eating
yogurt is healthy or eating whole meal
bread is healthy. But there's so much
complexity today. There is no one
answer. So what is the simplest way
>> for [clears throat] me is that the
misconception of eating healthy is
eating healthy is wrong. It's a big
misconception. Right. Like granola
>> is granola healthy? I
>> I guess so. [laughter] is it's most
people think it's healthy, right?
Actually, it's as bad as eating your
cornflakes, your cereal, because the
sugar in there is high. If I were to
simplify this for my patients and my
clients, I say, you know what,
>> just keep it simple.
>> Eat the real food. Eat food that you
don't need to read the label. Eat foods
that our ancestors were eating, right?
So, if you're eating chicken is chicken,
not chicken nuggets that you have to
read what is inside there, right? You
can see it's a chicken. If you're eating
fish, you can see the fish. If you're
eating veg, it's a veg. If you're eating
fruits, it's just fruits. That's all
>> you know recently I had a conversation
with my friend and after that I kind of
felt demoralized about the food supply
then she told me that there's a lot of
like uh being you know be it chicken
they've been injected by something else
you know if it's a cow then maybe
they're not fed properly and then I felt
like oh my god then what is good food
right there's no healthy good food out
there and what shall we do you know as
as you know like a a busy working adult
it's it's very difficult for us to
really source good food so how Do you
counter that?
>> Oh, that is a real real problem, right?
A real true problem.
>> So, I try to number one eat organic food
as much as I can. I mean, in Singapore,
the good news is that um organic food is
>> inexpensive compared to many countries.
>> Oh, really?
>> Yeah. Yeah, it is. Um again, I think a
lot of people have that wrong uh
impression that organic food is
expensive, right? But we have not really
done a comparison now. We were taking
prices of 30 years ago. So actually uh
if you look at the price difference it's
not significant.
>> Okay.
>> Right. So for me uh I would try to get
organic uh food in particularly
vegetables
>> uh and berries because these are called
the dirty dozen means no matter how you
wash with water it's really hard to
remove the pesticides.
>> Oh really? Oh my gosh.
>> For me that I don't compromise right
now. Then of course when it comes to the
meat I try to go for grass-fed
>> meat as much as I can. That's about it.
Of course, when we are eating outside,
we can't control the quality of the meat
and the vegetables. So, I try to control
what I eat at home and when I buy that
for my family, that's all.
>> To you, you felt like even though um the
cost of buying organic food or eating
grass-fed animal is slightly more
expensive, but the the cost to it, it
will be a fraction to what kind of
medical bills that the person will pay
eventually if they keep on eating bad
food.
>> I mean, I always look at I mean, that's
one perspective to it, right? The other
perspective is that I mean again I can't
speak for general viewers here.
>> I ask myself if I'm working so hard
where do I spend my money on right? So
definitely I spend on creating
experiences for my family by taking them
for different holidays travel around the
world. That's one part of it.
>> Second part is on personal you know
grooming. I think we all need to take
care of ourselves.
>> Yeah.
>> Um the third thing is I spend a lot on
high quality food. Yeah.
>> Now for me is that if you don't spend on
this then again right where do you spend
your money on? So for me I mean I'm not
on the concept of you leave to eat but
if I want to eat I don't need a lot. I
just need a bit but the quality of the
food has to be good.
>> And you know people talk about
preventive right? Oh you know I I don't
want to be sick and all that. How many
people really care about it? Most people
don't care. They care only when they got
the problem. That's true.
>> So I don't believe in that context of
okay you know I'm going to eat healthy
now so that I don't get that problem.
But for me now is that I want to have
that immediate energy.
>> So Chloe, you are an entrepreneur
yourself.
>> Do you agree that energy is very
important?
>> It's the most important.
>> Most important, right? I eat shitty
food, I get shitty energy outcome,
right?
>> The output.
>> When I put in good input, I get good
output.
>> So for me is that if I put in good
quality food, I feel great. I I need
that energy. I need that,
>> you know. I don't want to What is the
point? You make a lot of money and or
successful but you are feeling half dead
all the time. In fact, you can't be
successful if you're feeling crap.
Right. That's true. Okay, that totally
makes sense. So why do you think like
like generally people in Singapore or
even in developed countries um they
constantly feel tired? A lot of times
like people talk to me say, "Oh, how
come you have such a high energy?" I
thought it was just natural for me to
have high energy. I'm not sure. Is it
just me or But I don't think I pay
particular attention to food. I was
mainly just through exercises and all
this then I'm able to maintain my
energy. So what's your tips to people
who constantly feel very tired what
should they do?
>> So there are two components to it. The
first component for me is the part where
you know we all can control right? So
that is your food.
>> I used to think that food didn't play a
huge part in my younger days but as I
cross the age of 40 I promise you guys
it plays a huge part you know. So for me
is that again I don't eat a lot. I eat
just nice because the more you eat the
more energy the body requires to digest
the food and you get sleepy, right?
>> Yeah.
>> Um so that part is number one. Number
two I avoid late dinner.
>> In fact I end my dinner 5 to 6 p.m. That
is the latest.
>> So why the next morning I want to be
fully functional.
>> Yeah.
>> When you eat late when you go to bed
your body is still actually trying to
digest the food. And that's why a lot of
people wake up feeling tired. So it goes
into a vicious cycle then you pump more
coffee and again the whole cycle goes
right. So for me I eat early.
>> Thirdly something that is really
difficult for many patients of ours even
for me is sleep.
>> Oh
>> sleep plays a huge part in the energy
right so again right last time at 20 you
can go clubbing and all that. Now I'm
like by 11 if I don't sleep next day you
know I'm going to have a problem
concentrating.
>> So sleep for me is very important. So
these are the three parts that I find
that it's um controllable and and
manageable by most people. The other
subjective part is
>> why are we waking up each day right what
are you pursuing you can do by the way
yeah you can eat right you can exercise
you can manage your sleep but if you
don't have a purpose a meaning of
>> what are you looking forward to you
won't have the energy because
>> what are you doing you're just going
through motion right so maybe you know
for you I believe you have a very clear
purpose
>> right for me I know that okay this is
what I need to do today next month next
here. What do I need to do? You know,
and that's why I'm constantly energized.
>> Uh even though I'm tired, I try to bring
up my energy. And the last thing out of
everything here, stay away from energy
suckers.
>> Yeah. Oh, yeah. You mean people?
>> Yeah. People, right? So whether it's
family, whether it's colleagues, anyone,
right? I try to stay away from people
that likes to complain, people that are
are not adding value because I find that
>> it drains my energy.
>> True. True.
>> And I don't want a lot of people in my
life. I just want a few. But whenever I
meet them, they like they bring their
energy, right? Like, hey, Mark, wow, you
know what? This is something new. I'm
like, wow, I'm excited. I got one
friend. He's like a Energizer Bunny,
right? He's like, wow, you know what?
This is cool, right? So, I'm like, wow,
this is amazing. I'm like, whoa, okay,
share, share more with me. So you know I
think these are there's no one way but
these are all the different factors for
me uh which has helped me to constantly
have that energy.
>> Yeah and I I think energy is contagious
like when when you are high energetic
right people around you also feel your
energy and naturally you will you they
will also feel happier and all this. So
sometimes actually it all starts from
you. Okay. You can be the one to choose
to have high energy. But very
importantly is actually taking care of
different parts of your your life,
right? Be it from food, from sleep to
you having a purpose. There's one very
interesting thing that I want to
understand about your routine. What's
your daily routine like? Because just
now you talk about oh you sleep by 11,
right? And then then you make sure that
you have the dinner before 5 or 6 p.m.
Right. So can you share with us what is
your routine? So that enable you to have
such a high energy good health condition
even at I don't know what how old are
you but you look like in your 40 years
old.
>> Yeah. In my 40s.
>> Yeah. Yeah. [laughter] Correct.
>> Now my routine is boring, right? Nothing
exceptional. My weekdays, weekends,
they're all the same.
>> Uh I wake up as early as uh 6:00 to 6:30
a.m. Exercise helps me to have more
energy. I think it allows me to have a
stronger body to understand all the
challenges every day. So uh that again
shifted only I think when I was in my
30s. In the past I used to think that
you know what if I'm tired I'm just
going to sleep.
>> But actually the more I sleep the more
tired I become.
>> I exercise four times a week.
>> Uh I have a light breakfast.
>> Then I start working.
>> All right. I work work work work work
until yeah 10 to 11. Depends on days
that if we don't have special campaigns
or anything else I try again. I think
it's still tough uh to go to bed by
then, but uh yeah uh by 12, you know,
that's it. So I eat about two times a
day.
>> Two times a day.
>> Most of the most of the time.
>> So light breakfast,
>> heavy lunch.
>> Heavy lunch.
>> Right. That's it. That's it. Right. Of
course. Dinner.
>> I do take occasionally, but maybe like
three times a week. That's all.
>> So yeah, then I do a lot of juicing at
least once every week. So I go on a
juice diet to rest my stomach
>> so that I don't just digest digest
digest solid food is important for the
skin and the whole energy the cell
renewal which is a way of fasting. So my
my my day today I eat almost the same
food every day. Nothing exception there.
No cheat days, right? It's the same same
stuff, right? Yeah, that's my typical
day. Nothing nothing fancy. I think one
thing that really helped me also in
terms of apart from my diet, my exercise
is that I
>> put my phone away first thing in the
morning when I wake up.
>> I used to check emails, check messages,
look at social media.
>> But I realized that it was very
negative. It drained my energy
emotionally and mentally. So I only look
at it the moment I get into office. So
in the morning I will spend time for
myself.
>> That's beautiful.
>> Get sunlight.
>> Do you meditate?
>> No, I don't meditate. I find it
challenging for me.
>> Yeah. But I do a lot of reflection of
what has done well uh the day before.
What do I want to achieve today? Then I
list down the priorities. Right. So for
me it's just that that you're
journaling.
>> Just that silent morning for myself
which I take about 30 minutes to an
hour. I think it's so important
>> before we start hustling, start,
>> you know, the crazy routine. At least
for me.
>> Oh wow. It really reminds me of the
other podcast episode I did with um a
founder of money smart, right? His name
is Vote and he talked about every
morning he want to make sure he care for
himself first. Yes. Right. That he does
his exercise, he does his meditation
because at the end of the day is you
need to be careful before you can care
for others. And I can see the
resemblance of how successful people
actually live their like daily life and
the way that you um you treat your
day-to-day. It's very consistent. It's
like mini effort that you do every
single day that make you to be who you
are. It's very similar to investing. A
lot of people like keep on thinking that
oh investing you know like you just go
big or go home but actually it's not
right. It's supposed to be consistent
monthly effort that eventually compound
into a very big portfolio as well. So
I'm very curious uh Dr. Mark do you
personally like to invest as well like
apart from you know uh investing your
capital into growing your business do
you invest in other means like maybe
stocks and shares?
>> So I invest in only three parts.
>> Okay.
>> My portfolio is divided in three parts
right. So the first one is definitely
businesses.
>> Yeah.
>> So uh apart from our own business we
also uh invest in other startups on
founders that have a great vision. I
believe in you know helping you know
some of these people which I look back
10 years ago I was in that position.
Second part of my investment portfolio
is real estate.
>> So I I I do invest a lot in real estate.
>> Uh and the third one is definitely
stocks
>> but nothing fancy because I think
there's a big misunderstanding between
investment and trading.
>> True.
>> You know uh I don't have time to go and
monitor the ups and the downs and then
you know sell sell high buy low and all
that. Right. For me, I I I just want to
look at the companies, you know, their
financials, the board, their vision, you
know, how are they running it?
>> Uh, and and then if I find that, okay,
this ticks all the box, I'm just going
to put my money into that stock and just
leave it there, right?
>> As a form of growing it because after
all, I I I personally find that stocks
are still more liquid than real estate.
>> Yep. Yep.
>> Same for businesses, right? These are
things that you cannot like immediately,
oh, next six months I want to cash out.
You you can't. Yeah.
>> So I I still need that liquidity on my
money or my you know wealth that I am
growing because I mean to me it's
ridiculous to put it in a bank. How much
can FD give you right? You can speak to
the banker what premium banking
whatever. So I yes I do I do believe in
in investment but this is just my simple
three portfolios. That's it.
>> So how usually when you hold on to the
stocks how many years do you hold on to
them?
>> Years.
>> Yeah.
>> Yeah. Years.
>> Yeah. And I think that's how well we
think it's being compounded because many
people always have this get rich quick
kind of uh like like mentality. They
want to buy now and then the next year
they become very rich. But it's not like
that, right? For you it also takes
effort to compound your portfolio. Is
that correct?
>> True. Yeah.
>> I also want to ask like for someone
right like uh who for example like me I
already pretty much exercise right. I
take care of my body. I generally avoid
lousy food like fried food and all this.
What do you think are the missing piece
in our lives that can further improve
our energy, our health and more?
>> That's a tough question. How's your
sleep?
>> I will try to at least clock 7 hours a
day.
>> Quality sleep. Is it deep sleep?
>> That one I can't say for sure. But how
do you know? How do you know whether is
it deep or Uh so now there's a lot of uh
devices biohacking devices that you can
actually put on on your ring or your
wrist as a bangle to track the quality
of your sleep. Again right the duration
of sleep may not equal to the quality of
the sleep.
>> So a deep sleep means you don't even
have any dreams. You just get into total
knock knockoff and next morning you wake
up you feel energized. You may even
sleep for just 6 hours but you wake up
feeling great. that I find that has a
was a game changer for me uh in terms of
my energy renewal. Right? So one thing
for all of you that are watching if you
really find that you are struggling to
sleep immediately or you sleep for many
hours you wake up still feeling tired
>> go for magnesium
>> magnesium
>> yeah you can immediately feel the
difference within that night right or
within the first week you're going to
feel waking up feeling more refreshed.
>> So that that is the first thing that you
can do. Second thing is that again when
you exercise uh don't exercise too late
in the evening because that will affect
the quality of your sleep.
>> Oh, how late is considered late?
>> So I would recommend you know to at
least have 5 hours before your sleeping
time.
>> 5 hours.
>> Yeah. But again, it really depends on
the age, right? So if you're younger
maybe doesn't really affect, but the
moment you're in your 40s, 50s, 60s, you
can't be exercising at 9 and try to go
to bed at 10 or 11
>> because you still feel energized.
>> The heart rate is still high, right? and
your brain is fresh.
>> So, it's going to affect the quality of
the sleep and then you're going to wake
up feeling tired.
>> So, [laughter] and it's like why I'm
exercising but I'm still feeling tired.
Right. The third thing is uh fasting.
>> Yeah.
>> So, fasting to me is amazing. Right.
>> So, I I again I do a lot of fasting.
Sometimes I just eat two times in a day.
>> Weekends if I'm very busy, I got a lot
of talks, seminars, events,
consultations. I would just go on liquid
food
>> which is your juicing.
>> Juicing or soups? just full liquid diet.
>> Oh, and that helps because there's no
nothing tend like too much things for
the
>> body to digest but you still got your
calories for energy.
>> Interesting.
>> But uh you feel really energetic.
>> One thing that I actually tried fasting
for a while but there are also people
who say but you're already so skinny if
you don't eat you'll become even more
skinny. I was like h okay then in the
end I felt I'm too hungry. I go back to
eating normally. So how is fasting going
to affect a person's being skinny or
not?
>> There there are two types of fasting.
>> One type of fasting is you literally
just don't eat anything. You you know
you're just on liquid diet or you
totally don't even eat. Uh now of course
that sort of fasting it's not
recommended that you do too frequently
>> one day in a month or maximum one day in
a week. Now then there's the other type
of fasting called intermittent fasting
where you instead of eating three meals,
five meals a day, you just eat twice a
day.
>> Yeah.
>> Now there's a lot of misconception,
right? Where people think that, you
know, if I'm going to eat two times a
day, I'm going to lose weight. I'm going
to become slimmer. Well, it depends what
you eat in that two meals. If you're
going to eat fried chicken, you're going
to eat long tong sate. You can eat two
times, but you're going to gain weight.
Nasi pardang, right? You know, and the
volume. So note uh Chloe, you don't
become thinner by going for intermittent
fasting.
>> It's the quality of the food that you're
eating, right? That's it. The volume
>> and the type of food that you're eating.
If you're eating huge, I guarantee even
if you eat once a day,
>> you still get fat.
>> You're going to get fat.
>> I see. Okay. It's once again the quality
type of food. So what is because you
said that every day you eat the same
thing, right? What do you eat every day?
eggs, chicken breast, uh salmon, right?
Um yeah, I eat potatoes, um rice, that's
it.
>> And fruits.
>> Fruits. A lot of berries. I take a lot
of berries.
>> And for yourself, do you also take
supplement?
>> Yes, I do. Yeah.
>> Yeah, I do.
>> So, what kind of supplements do you
think that it's important for people to
actually consume? I take based on my uh
deficiency and also based on the
performance that I want to achieve in my
uh workouts. So I only take five things
right. I take probiotics which are very
important because occasionally I drink a
lot of coffee.
>> So coffee destroys my gut bacteria. So I
take a lot of probiotics. Um the second
one is definitely magnesium because I
want to have good quality sleep. M
>> number three is protein because I need
140 g of protein in a day. No matter how
much I eat, I just find it tough. So I
need protein but I don't take protein
powders. I take those protein that are
from collagen. For me collagen is the
third one which is not only for my
muscle recovery but for my skin and the
hair as well. Then the fourth one is
definitely called vitality blend
>> because I am someone that still very
picky when it comes to vegetables.
>> Yeah.
>> So I don't have enough um vegetables,
right? Which is bad. Yeah.
>> So, I need to have a lot of chlorophyll.
So, I take uh our in-house uh special
blend called vitality blend. So, you got
all your super greens in there,
>> right? And the last thing is a very good
quality fish oil.
>> Fish oil.
>> Yeah. That's all. Five things simple.
>> So, I'm very curious. Right. So, all
these very good uh supplements and all
this. What's the would there be any side
effects? Say once the person stop taking
then uh immediately you will feel like
oh my energy is like like going back to
like like like a sun cause you know like
like because you are so at peak
performance state right then once you
stop taking will it end up causing the
crash
>> crash no but that skin inflammation
definitely happens uh hair loss for me I
have I've lost a lot of hair if I were
to show you you know about four four
five years ago how my hair thinning was
you shock, right? So I I I was like,
"Okay, should I just go and do a hair
transplant?" Then I was able to regrow
them. Okay, not not not bad. If you look
at the 2021 picture,
>> so I start at one point I was doing
experiment, I stopped for 3 months.
>> So I started dropping my hair again,
right? So I got freak out. So like,
okay, let's continue that. Then the
other thing for me was really important
was the muscle recovery.
>> Yeah.
>> So I I could not after workouts if I
stopped my collagen, my body will be
aching for days. So I I need that fast
recovery otherwise it's affecting my
job.
>> I can't go in to work and hustle because
I'm just tired and have inflammation. So
>> that's very interesting. But
[clears throat] so actually I can I say
that actually all those supplements help
to give you sustain your pig performance
rather than um and when you stop taking
them you actually see a huge effect of
the huge benefits that they bring you
and that's why they decide to keep on
>> eating them.
>> Yeah. So if you take real good
supplements, you will not have that
instant crash because after all it's not
steroids or true any drugs. Uh but I
think it's a good question because some
people think that oh the crash is
immediate. The crash
>> will come slowly then suddenly one day
you you realize the decline is like just
nose nose dive right
>> so that is the dangerous part. It
doesn't show you immediately. It takes a
few weeks then suddenly bam it goes
down.
>> Okay. And that's when actually the body
is telling you that I want
>> you need them.
>> I need them.
>> Yes. And you were saying that it's very
important for us to test what is
deficient. So how do you test it? Is it
like any clinic that you go in Singapore
that actually does all this testing?
>> Uh there are some laboratories that that
does it. Of course, some clinics and
certain hospitals as well. You just say
that you want to do a nutrient
deficiency test.
>> Uh they will take your blood,
>> they will take your urine and they will
take your stool sample. These are the
three things.
>> Interesting.
>> Uh yeah. So then from there you will
know. Don't do the DNA test. They are
rubbish. just go and do these three very
important uh types you will have a much
more clearer and more precise uh reading
of your deficiencies.
>> May I also know like um I also heard
that like actually your company right
you are very passionate about health
education. Can you share with us a
little bit more about what is your idea
of health education and why are you so
passionate about it? For me the the the
journey from where I started and now
changed. Yeah. You know the passion 10
years ago and now has been very
different. Right. The the
>> the first reason why I started was uh
because of my father which I didn't
understand why would a typical cancer
doctor would always suggest to a patient
whether you're stage one, stage two,
stage three cancer chemotherapy. I mean
I understand that's what we were taught
in medical school but
>> have we even questioned you know the
other possibilities
>> why does it always have to be one way or
the highway uh there for me it was very
frustrating right I wanted to challenge
that that whole idea
>> now of course after that the whole
journey the passion shifted again
because I realized that there is so much
in our daytoday on food that we are
eating that we don't even know what are
we eating
Right? And what is healthy, what is
unhealthy, it's no longer a clear line
there.
>> And then you got people coming up, you
know, everyone is just trying to push
the agenda and say that, you know, you
should eat this, you should buy that.
And there's a lot of fear-mongering. I
find that this is ridiculous, right? I
mean,
>> at least to me, right? I I felt that
frustration where I imagine myself if
today I look back at a situation where
my father was struggling
>> and people came to and say oh Mark you
should give this to your father this is
life life-changing
>> out of desperation you would
>> try
>> you know and when I fast forward that
today how many people today where you
have your loved one or yourself that are
going through a health problem a health
scare and someone came to you and say oh
you should eat this you should buy this
supplement or whatever and you have no
clue whether does it work. M
>> so I find that hey you know what I want
to change I want to challenge the whole
idea
>> and that was how the food education came
into the picture right how can something
that we do every day for whole life and
yet we have very little clue about it
that's
>> true
>> you know it's like investment right
everyone talks about investment but do
you really understand about investment
deep enough or is just at a surface
level yeah I think that that's really
important and I there's a huge
disconnect in terms of our relationship
with food right how do we look at food I
look at food as a source of productivity
activity.
>> I don't look at it as that 5 minutes of
pleasure. Oh w shop the food is good. I
mean of course I enjoy food but for me
is that the food that I'm eating today
is it going to energize me or is it
going to make me tired?
>> Interesting.
>> Right. Because there are phases in life
that there is this window that you need
to achieve things.
>> True.
>> Right. Whether is going through a a
marriage you going to get you know newly
you're going to set up family. You got a
lot of energy in that period.
>> Or whether it's having kids
>> right? You got to have that that window
of energy playing with the kids. Right?
If you're building a business, you got
that window of that hustle window,
>> right? So I look at everyone whether
you're employed or none there is always
a face in our life that you got to have
a lot of energy.
>> Yes.
>> And as we age, people say, "Oh, age is
just a number." I disagree,
>> right? Age is not just a number. There
are truly things that physically you
can't do after certain age anymore. It
starts to decline. M
>> so for me is that okay if I got this
window of next 5 years only to achieve
the best thing in my career my business
my life I don't want to compromise by
eating
>> and I miss that window of that 5 to 10
years
>> so for me yeah I mean the again right
the education is not about okay should
you eat more protein more vegetable eat
more fruits don't eat so much fried food
that is not the education the education
is that what is your relationship with
food
>> wow
>> right and again I think I got this
frustration. I I'm sure most of you if
you're watching this conversation right
now
>> when you are sick tashoot I'm sure you
have before right you go to a typical
doctor what do the doctor tell you
>> just take what antibiotics whatever
>> okay so they tell you the prescription
the medication first and second thing uh
don't eat fried food don't eat spicy
food right
>> eat milder food drink more water
>> yeah yeah yeah
>> hello I don't need to pay a GP to tell
me this rubbish right I mean for me is
that can you tell me specifically what
should I be eating right so I feel that
these are the gaps in the market
>> and again right that's just one part of
the frustration I look at you know so
many people in the health space whether
you are nutritionist or dietician
>> they don't walk the talk
>> I mean again how can you be overweight
and you tell people that this is what
you should be eating to be healthy
>> it's like how can you be broke and tell
people how do you grow your wealth right
hello can you please go and run a few
miles lose that wait and then you tell
people how to eat right
>> you know not giving some BS advice like
okay then you tell people okay you
should eat salad but behind you're
eating nasama you know a lot of people
don't show the real thing right
>> be real I mean I tell people I don't eat
salad
>> I don't and I can't fake it you know
>> and and for me is that many people are
like that because we were raised in an
environment of at least for me I was
raised eating
>> cooked warm food
>> I can't be like the angos and eat cold
stuff I I find very torturous. Right. So
there's so much misconception in the
market and when people try to eat
healthy, they fail after few days or a
week because they are trying to be
somebody that they are not.
>> Yeah, that's true.
>> And we want to challenge that that whole
ideology that was pushed. It's just
wrong.
>> And there's a way that you can be
healthy and still enjoying what you are
truly what what you like.
>> Yes, definitely. Yeah, you got to enjoy
the the journey.
>> That's true. Wow. And I also heard that
like um actually your company was once
even given an offer of I think $75
million of acquisition and you just
rejected that.
>> What makes you want to reject that? Like
why not take the money and uh I don't
know uh enjoy. [laughter]
In my early years, I I always thought
that by having a lot of money means I am
very successful
>> and I was very blessed to have the
opportunity to create a very I would say
humble stable financial
>> achievement.
>> Uh but at a certain point in life, you
you start asking right by having this
additional digit in your bank account,
>> how does that change your life? I think
that was the thing that I was asking
myself, right? How would my life be
different? We got that offer.
>> I could simply not believe it. I
remember me and my partner, we were so
excited. I tell you, we were like, "Oh,
it's like a dream
>> came true."
>> Yeah.
>> Then we said, "Okay, let's not get too
excited yet we enjoy the moment.
>> Let's discuss this." The following day,
we call it the cool down period.
>> Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. The next day we woke
up, we had a very serious conversation,
right? So we we started asking, okay,
what are you going to do with this
money?
>> And you know what was shocking? I don't
know. We're not going to buy more
houses. We're going to buy more cars. We
we had everything,
>> right? Buying more luxury watches or
what? No, I mean, because we live a very
simple life. We don't trace for all
these material, right?
>> So we like, okay, what we going to do
with the money? M
>> then we're like okay do we like set up a
foundation to make it into a donation
fund you know
>> but if it was not something that
resonate with us then I said why do we
do it for the sake of doing it
>> so I think that was the first part that
for us is like what do we do with this
amount of money
>> but the second biggest thing uh uh Chloe
is after we started the journey of the
business of farms Asia on the third year
>> I asked her this right now we have
crossed our financial mark what is the
next I achieve and she said
>> one is on the impact [clears throat]
>> and the other part that my partner said
was she she wanted to experience
how it is to build a company from
nothing to IPO. M
>> so she said would you support me I want
to experience that at least once in my
life right
>> for me it's all about experience in life
I mean and I say okay uh we both have
the energy right now
>> let's do it because I if you ask me that
question maybe few hours from now I say
forget about it right I just want to be
at a beach so we said okay let's do it
so I promise I made a promise to her
like I I want to make sure that she
fulfills that dream of listing a company
so when that that second component of
the offer when I was thinking I asked
myself right if we were to take this
deal
>> will I pursue on the IPO the answer
would be maybe not
>> because I will start to be very lazy I
will start traveling the world
>> and I will lose that fire right that
window it took us about a few weeks to
really think it through
>> uh but that those were the two most
important things that you know we ask
ourselves But the last thing that really
hit me on that night before I we
responded back to the legal team and say
that thank you, we're going to, you
know, not take it was I asked myself
this question.
>> How much further can I go
>> in my entrepreneurship, right?
Am I able to build something so big, so
impactful that it becomes a brand not
just in Singapore but an international
brand? So I don't know what was that
answer and I say you know what I'm going
to try. I give myself these next few
years if I could build something
amazing.
>> I I want to be feeling that sense of uh
fulfillment.
>> Yeah.
>> Right. And to me it's like okay will you
support me in that like okay let's do
this.
>> So those were the three reasons
eventually we decided to
>> not pursue with that
>> whole offer. Right.
>> Yeah. Now if I look back do I regret
turning it down? Of course when times
were tough we say we should have taken
that deal you know but now if I again
you know look back at it I I'm glad we
didn't take that because I believe that
we would have missed so much
understanding about ourselves myself
right on my potential
>> uh just like again if I was still in my
corporate
>> role I would never possibly imagine how
much potential I had. Yeah.
>> Right. And same thing I mean when you
build a business most people want to
cross that 1 million.
>> After that 1 million how do you cross
from 1 to 10 to 30 to 50 50 to 100 right
>> and eventually billions.
>> Yeah.
>> So every stage requires a different
level of you.
>> Yes.
>> Right. From system to people to cash
management is a different system that
you keep building.
>> Yeah.
>> So for me it's like playing a game.
>> I I want to beat the next boss. Right.
and I want to collect the next weapons
to upgrade to the next level again.
>> I don't regret that because at least now
I see how much
>> or how far can I go and for me I can
definitely bring in more income than
that 73 million.
>> Yeah.
>> Right. Right now if I look at my future
the vision but if you ask me that time I
definitely could not imagine like could
I make that much right but now I see
that oh that money is so small. So at
the end of the day, it's also about
self-awareness because you really enjoy
growing as a person like as an
entrepreneur and that's why you know
that the path that you have taken which
is actually you building and scaling
your business will actually bring you
more fulfillment and more joy than just
taking that $73 million and walk away.
>> I'm sure you know many of us have
different things, right? True.
>> But again if you look at it ultimately
it's going back to the spiritual level
of fulfillment. Spiritual doesn't mean
religious but you start questioning like
is there life beyond this life?
>> Yeah.
>> What is next?
>> Right. But before that you start asking
right what else can you contribute
>> you know? So you know for me Chloe I I I
I look at it like okay how else can I
enjoy my everyday life is tough.
>> Yes.
>> Right. I mean people see that oh wa Dr.
Mark you got all this success but they
never see the I'm going through
every single day. And the bigger I grow
my business, the bigger my headaches I
have, right? Because you manage a bigger
team, bigger risk, you got board of
directors, you got public,
>> everything just gets tougher. But this
is the price that you have to pay.
>> But you have to again enjoy it. But when
I say enjoy it, people think that every
day I'm smiling, laughing, right? No, I
got days I'm so angry, so frustrated.
But I don't
>> complain about the the the price that I
have to pay
>> to get there,
>> right? But I enjoy it means I look
forward to it.
>> That that's a huge difference.
>> Yeah. I think like what you say a lot of
people only see the surface level why
people are successful but they don't see
how much it takes to become where you
guys are today. So
>> um it's very good that uh Dr. M actually
share this very transparently with you
guys so that you can be mentally
prepared actually in order to be really
the next level in life. what truly takes
to in order for you to level up and I
personally believe that I think all the
challenges whatever things that we face
will actually make us a better version
of oursel and most importantly is uh you
will get to experience a lot more things
uh that you will not get to experience
if you just stay in your comfort zone.
something very I think relevant to your
uh audience here
>> is that when you look at investment
right I enjoy building business so much
>> that when I look at what stocks to
invest I don't look at it from an angle
of making money
>> now again making money is important now
nobody wants to go and buy a stock
that's losing money right
>> but you see the the mindset that most
people go into investment it's already
wrong first thing is that I want to make
a lot of money okay fine
>> but again right when you want to make
money are you putting the time to
understand that company that you are
buying the stock
>> right how much how much work you're
putting in to understand again who is
the who is running the company what is
their business model all of it
>> for me this is natural right I mean a
good friend of mine Adam
>> Coup yeah yeah
>> right he always talks about looking at
the company don't just buy because
someone says hey that stock is good it's
going to go up right
>> true
>> so again that is then all emotional
buying so for me I look at wow how do
they build a company what is the mode
what is the money making that they're
doing you know then for me is that okay
I'm going to invest in this company
because that part where making money is
the second part the first part is I
really enjoy studying companies
>> so for a lot of people right you get
burnt because number one you don't find
yourself a good mentor
>> right find yourself a good mentor that
you can trust and I I think you are
amazing in what you do right I follow a
lot about your work I really like how
you present and simplify the complicated
matters for people who have never
invested before find yourself a good
mentor right that's the first Because if
you are going to spend your time
figuring it all out, it's going to take
you time. Time is money. Period. That's
it.
>> Secondly is that always understand
making money is important. But before
you make money, what are you passionate
about? True.
>> When it comes to investment, right? Why
why do you want to invest?
>> And then the last thing here is that
patience.
>> Whether it's investing, whether it's
anything in life, even if you want to go
and caught a girl,
>> you can't be first date go out there,
you tell hey tonight you come to my
house, right? You you can't, right?
Everything takes time.
>> Yeah. True. So we are living now in a
world where people want fast fast fast
fast fast fast fast fast fast fast fast
fast fast fast fast fast right
everything they want immediate immediate
nothing wrong with that but
>> again good things sometime takes time
>> you just have to be very clear what are
you after that's why a lot of people got
burned right in the crypto game
>> I mean again you don't understand what
it is you just jump in because you see a
lot of people talk about how much
millions they make
>> y
>> investment is the same you you don't
jump in because someone shows you the
bling bling thing
>> yeah it's really about understanding
that subject first, right? Just like
what Dr. M is saying, right? He he is so
passionate about whatever he's doing
right now because he's he is passionate
about finding out food, finding out
understanding the relationship between
us and food. And that's why he is able
to firstly not just improve his health
but also a lot of people's health around
his life. So if you are into investing
or whichever subject really go and spend
an effort to understand it first then
you get to see whether is it something
that you really want to pursue more or
not. So here comes the final question
before we wrap up.
>> Okay.
>> And um imagine today right you have
lived as long as you wanted and you have
achieved every single things that you
want to achieve in life. Be it you went
for IPO you built a very successful
business you have a very amazing
community. So you have achieved all that
and because you have achieved all this
right today is also the last day that
you will leave on this earth. So you'll
be dep departing from here. So
unfortunately the moment that you depart
every single social media post that you
did before have lots of followers few
hundred thousand followers all this
account will also disappear all those
content will also disappear. So what you
can do is you can only leave three piece
of advice to our audience here and this
will stay on earth. So what will that
three piece of advice be?
I imagine that if this advice is not for
the audience although it's for the
audience I imagine if this is for my for
my children
>> right and what will I want to leave my
children with never stop pursuing
what is important to you even though it
may not make sense to the people around
you there is no right or wrong because
if it's important enough for you you
would find the energy. You will move
mountains and more importantly you wake
up with a sense of purpose pursuing it
rather than doing what you are not
feeling proud of and you are just going
through motion. A lot of people they are
not living they are just breathing right
don't just breathe you want to live.
>> Life is not long neither life is short.
A lot of people underestimate
what they can achieve in 10 years and
they overestimate what they can achieve
>> in one year.
>> In one year. All right. And and for me,
these are the very powerful words that
my mentor shared with me, you know,
whenever I feel lost, I feel like am I
good enough? You know, I'm not getting
people around me supporting some of the
things that I find that's important to
me. Then I realized that it doesn't
matter. And apart from that, the last
word to top this advice up would be
never let someone
tell you how to tie the shoelace if they
have never worn the shoe that you are
wearing.
>> You got to tie your own shoelace. You
know the shoe that you're wearing. Walk
your own path. Stop taking advices from
everyone and anyone when you want to do
something right because they may not
have the right advice and sometimes the
advice may turn out damaging. So walk
your own path and this will be something
that I want to leave
>> you. If you have now in a position that
you are feeling just unmotivated, you're
waking up feeling
you're not sure what is next. Just do
it. Nobody knows the answer.
>> And clarity comes from you doing it
first, right? Rather than keep on
contemplating and thinking and never
take action. The moment you step
forward, actually things become so much
clearer. And in fact, it can be so much
easier than you think.
>> You clarity is the key. And do you know
how many of my successful owners of you
know friends who run big companies, they
own amazing businesses. I thought that
they will be the ones that can give me
the solid advice.
>> Many times they could only share me the
mistakes that they have done. But the
things that I want to pursue, many of
them may not have even gone through that
path. And I learned that
>> they don't even know. M
>> so I got to walk that path. Then I
realize that ah oh this is working oh
this not working and you constantly
refine that word clarity right
>> it's all about finding that clarity the
clearer you are the better it is that
you're going to get to the end point
>> that's beautiful thank you so much Dr.
Mark for all your insights. I can felt
that emotions in you when you comes to
that last piece three pieces of advice
and I think it's all so valuable. I
think at the end of the day is really
about very interestingly is not none of
them is about money right uh but every
single thing is way more valuable than
the money that you can make because as
long as you believe in your own path you
work towards it and you really have the
drive and determination [music] to
achieve it right I think money will just
naturally come to you and most
importantly as you [music] live the best
most fulfilling life that you can ever
imagine I think that's the most
important thing
>> yes
>> uh if people want to learn more about

[music] follow you
>> so you can go and check us out every
Saturday night at the Maklong Club show
