Welcome to Toffee TV. It's the Everton News Daily. The day after Everton's triumphant victory in the Caribell Cup against Wolves. Uh yeah, it was good. Listen, got through, done the job. What more can you ask for? Uh Alan Irvine was on media duty last night. David Moyes just couldn't be bothered. probably probably got off um early or something. But um the coach or the assistant manager, sorry, was asked about Charlie Alarez coming on and scoring the winning goal. >> No, no. Um I'm absolutely thrilled for Charlie. Uh he he trains well every day. Um he's massively disappointed whenever he's not in the team as you would want players to be. and uh when when he's he's had his chance then tonight he's he's got the goal and everybody is delighted for him. >> Yeah, fair play to Charlie uh coming on getting the winning goal. It's been a while since he got a goal. He had a big smile on his face. So, fair play to him. That goal was obviously set up by man of the match Tyler Diblin who uh progre progressively got better during the game and then the second half you know we saw some really good moments from not only the assist but the ball through to uh Brennan Johnson and then the recovery tackle he made after that but for most you know most of the game he was excellent and his numbers were really good. Here's Alan Irvine's thoughts on him. Well, well, first of all, he looks since he came back for for preseason, he's looked like he belongs here. He he's looked more comfortable. Um, he's a very quiet lad, Tyler, and and it it can sometimes take quiet lads, young lads, quite a bit of time to settle in, especially to a club like this with the expectations that are here. So, um, that was probably difficult for him last year, but he's come back right from the the first day of preseason looking much more comfortable in the in the environment and being able to play for a club of of this size. So, so that that's been good. Um, he's he's been training really well. He's just been waiting for his opportunity. And, uh, I said to him before the game, you've been waiting patiently or impatiently. um you've now got your chance. You've been disappointed that you haven't been in the starting a living um up until now, but now you must take that opportunity. You don't get loads of opportunities. You you have to grab them when you get them and uh make sure that the managers got a tough decision to make for the next game. And he's done that which I'm really pleased about. >> Yes. There you go. Uh, good night for Tyler Dibble and hopefully, you know, now he's in the frame for more opportunities. Not saying he should be starting games, but certainly needs to start coming off the bench and giving Everton something a little bit different and we need to start using that bench as much as we can. Uh, small squad means you've got to use all of the players in it. H, but one of the players not on the pitch or even on the bench last night was Harrison Armstrong who was missing through injury. Let's find out exactly why. He got no he uh he got a little injury yesterday in training. Um we assessed him this morning and and he unfortunately wasn't ready to to play again yet, but we're hopeful that he'll be okay um for the weekend. It's It's not a major injury. Um it's just something that was enough because it happened yesterday. It's >> Yeah, it's obviously Everton through slightly uncharted territory. We uh don't don't get to this stage of the Caribou Cup too often or haven't too often in recent years. Uh the draw was made obviously last night. Lot of uh people walking down Regent Road uh with phones out um waiting for that draw to happen. Uh it finally came around half 10 when Everton were drawn at home to Newcastle uh which will take place in the last week of October. It's not a bad draw when you consider we'll be home again and last night do 50,000 at Hill Dickinson. Um and hopefully if Everton if Everton put the tickets out for a similar price then we'll get it we'll get 50 again you know Newcastle fans Newcastle will bring their a lot of fans as well and we'll get we'll get a similar um number and I think that is important that Everton do put the prices out to a similar thing get the ground full. Newcastle fans will always be noisy. So, you need to we need to have that atmosphere for the next round. And as I said, I think it's I think it is a decent draw. Uh listen, it would have been lovely to get one of the non Premier League teams, but you know, Newcastle haven't been brilliant. And listen, we in a month's time, who knows where we'll be and where they'll be, but um you know, anyone at home is good. So, we'll see what happens when when we take on Newcastle in just over a month's time. Uh, yeah, Jake O'Brien has been called up for the Ireland squad. No real surprise there. H, but obviously started the game last night. It was his first start of the season. Obviously, he obviously come off the bench against Spurs at the weekend to go at right back. Very much like coming off the naughty step. Um obviously there was a lot of debate about him the last week of the of the window. He missed the Preston game which really he should have started as well and yeah done all right last night. Done all right. no issues whatsoever and he so he's been picked for the Ireland squad and Flo Balagan has been well he's been told or it sounds like he's been told he'd be leaving Monaco in January and Everton unbelievably are being linked with the player um which just seems very very far-fetched to me that we would be linked with a player that walked out on us although It has happened before. Let's not forget uh a certain Mr. Dan Jumer um walked out on us and then we signed them on loan. So you never say never. He might have had a change of heart. Maybe deadline day was too much for him. Would TFG even sanction the move now after everything that's gone on? Um, I think Monaco were angry at the player because he because they they needed money and he stopped obviously another transfer happening that night as well. So, uh, I think don't think they've put him in the I don't think they've put him in the European squad either. So, um, he's sort of on the Richard and Naughty step as well. So, so we'll wait. But, I I I I can't imagine Evan would go back for him. I think the manager having the manager we've got now I don't think would tolerate that kind of that kind of person. Um but ultimately I mean ultimately said at the time I'll say it again it was Evan's fault for leaving transfers as late as they did uh and leaving a situation like that where if if if it did fall through that was it time was up. So um we we'll see we'll see but I can't I can't imagine it. Uh and just going back to last night's game, obviously the game uh will be remembered for some people for having two prime ministers at the game. Obviously the UK prime minister Andy Bham obviously a staunch Jevatonian used to sit in the south stand not far from me um was at the game with his Canadian counterpart Mark Carney who uh used to be head of the Bank of England and and and said on his visit last night that the first time he ever to watch Everton was in the 89 cup final. Um, and it was just it was just, you know, listen, whatever your political leanings are, I'm not going to go into that, but it was just it was just strange, just a strange thing to have these two these two uh very very very important people at our game last night. And I'm sure people will have noticed the the lot more police, a lot more stewards um around the ground because obviously it's a very highprofile thing having these two people and they had sort of like a little mini summit in one of the executive boxes as well with the flags out and all a pomp and ceremony. So, and they looked like they both looked like they massively enjoyed the game. Mandy Bham obviously um is used to it but for for uh the Canadian prime minister it's something a little bit different. So I'm glad they glad Evan won for all of our sakes. So it's not one of those where it's like the two two highprofile people come and we lose the game and that goes on the news. So little something a little bit different. I'm sure I'm sure Andy will be uh back to watch Evan as much as he can. Um, and that's a that's also a that's also a big big important thing.
