According to reports today, the Freakin Group are looking to sell a stake in Everton Football Club less than 2 years after they bought the club from Farhad Moshiri. It has now been circulated that they're looking for some investment into the club. It follows Everton's awful end to the transfer window where it was uh evidence that the process clearly failed. Everton finished with only 18 outfield players. Um obviously only left themselves with one right back, one left back, and one striker, which is uh leaves the squad looking threadbare. David Moyes had been talking about strengthening the squad throughout the transfer window, saying he needed more players. But it resulted in Everton selling quite a few goals from last season and better when they let them and Jarrad Branthwaite on, and obviously not being able to replace those players. It's meant questions came on CEO Angus Kinnear, and rightly so. Also, questions at the recruitment team and at the owners. Lots of people have had their say on what an awful end to the transfer window. And And now this news comes out about the Freakin Group. It kind of puts some things into perspective. They already own AS Roma in Italy, and they are apparently looking to buy an NHL franchise in Houston. That'll set them back around three and a half billion dollars. So, listen, if they decide that that it's just too expensive to have a Premier League team and to put the investment in you need to get it where they want it to be, then fine. They definitely improved the football club since they come in. You know, we were in a bit of a mess, and they've got us on a stable footing now. But if they are going to sell some of it, all of it, let's hope it's quick, and we can get moving forward because we're going to need to to be a bit lucky in the next few months. And then we're going to need to spend money in January, and I can hear people saying back the minute I say that that we won't spend anything in January, but we've got to have hope that we will. But we clearly need to do things differently. Whatever we're trying isn't working. And again, to leave things so late in the window is a real is a really poor indication of what's going on at the football club. And um And he's can he's took a lot of uh a lot of criticism, and rightly so. He's at the very top of the direct and things, so uh he will attract that, and so he should. But I think it's more than just him as well. I think they're going to have to go away and look at this. How have we got to a situation where we've sold certainly if our best player, if not one of the best players, right at the end of the window, and we haven't brought anyone in. And you know what? People said this to me a couple of weeks ago when I was talking about NJ. I can see him going late, and us not replacing him. And I didn't believe it. I thought there's no way we would have thought we'd moved past that, but that's exactly what happened. And it's uh it's so disappointing. Now, obviously, this has been compounded by the collapse of the Monaco striker uh Folarin Balogun to Everton. He was on Merseyside on Tuesday. But there's uh more stuff's come out today. ESPN are reporting that Balogun didn't say enough one time, missed the earlier flight, arrived late in the day. And didn't send all the relevant documentation about his medical as well, which delayed everything. In the end, Balogun decided against joining Everton right at the last minute because he said he wasn't feeling it. Um His pure picture's out today of him training at Monaco. First team training, so he's obviously back in the fold there, but >> [snorts] >> regardless of of how late he got there or what medical records. Quite clearly, there was a breakdown in communication with him as well while he was waiting at Finch Farm. We clearly haven't done enough to make him feel settled and comfortable at the football club while they were delaying the decision. Um but again, how on earth has this been allowed to get to deadline day with such a complex transfer like that? And a big you know, it was going to be around 40 million pounds. It's a big big deal to try and do for the club like Everton on deadline day. Why wasn't this done the day before where Everton had room to maneuver? Um again, that will come down to processes whatever the new recruitment team has put in place. Clearly hasn't worked. And questions are rightly being asked by fans. Fans are are disappointed. Fans feel let down and and absolutely we uh we have been let down by the football club. So, we need answers. Whether we get them, who knows. Whether that news today about 777 is an eye-opener to some people, whether it will satisfy not satisfy but whether it will give people a bit more of an idea of what's been going on. Who knows, but it it's definitely not a good look. Definitely not a good look for Everton Football Club. A positive though, Everton did complete the signing of Jack Grealish. Um he has rejoined from Manchester City. Obviously had an excellent time at Everton last season where he registered six assists and two goals in 20 games before getting injured in the 1-0 win at Aston Villa. He was then out for the rest of the season. He's been desperate to come back to Everton all summer. There was a lot of clubs in for him including Aston Villa, but he he wanted to join Everton and remain steadfast in that and Everton did get that deal done. So, that is a positive. He does make Everton better. I'm delighted to watch him in an Everton shirt again. He will wear the number 10 shirt for this season. And another bit of business that Everton done, they did sign a right back. Mightn't be the right back everyone wanted or expected, but we completed the signing of Ainsley Maitland-Niles from Lyon. He is um going to wear the number two shirt for the season. He's cost around £4 million. Can also play left back and also play in midfield as well. But he is a right back. He will make Everton better. But again, I think for some people that signing feels underwhelming because it could have potentially been done in June, July this one. Why have you left it so late to integrate the lad as well? So, that is where people are rightly ask questions. These things need sorting out. These things need improving. This simply is not good enough. We were told I was told in an interview by the CEO that, you know, things were going to move forward. We were told when the freaking group took over that things were going to change. Some things have changed and clearly some things changed behind the scenes after that interview, but we've not ended up as strong as we should be and that's the most disappointing thing for for me as an Evertonian and for every other Everton fan. Um it just feels a little bit like we're on dog day and we need to I thought we'd moved past this. Uh Everton will assess the free player markets over the next day or so, but could turn to Tariq Georgiou Brennan Johnson to support Beto as the uh the striker. Tariq Georgiou has spoke to Julia for 505 Live and said that he would play up front. He's played up front before and he is ready to answer David Moyes' call should he need be. Brennan Johnson did of course play as a striker for Nottingham Forest at times before leaving to join Tottenham Hotspur. Both of them will will be in line to replace Beto, you know, you know, to in games and and things like that, but let's be honest, it's not great, is it? We should be having three strikers in that Everton squad. We shouldn't be just having one and two auxiliary ones. Uh and finally, a striker who may well be included in some of Everton's match day squads going forward, that is young striker Braden Graham. He scored again last night, a free kick for uh Everton young Everton side were beaten 2-1 at Goodison Park by Milan, but again, Braden scores lots of different types of goals and I just wonder now whether David Moyes will consider getting him in his match day squad as well.
