Video summary
The video centers on a significant discovery within the *Wild Forever* beta of World of Warcraft, specifically regarding a newly found item called the Cold Flame Saber. This level 21 weapon is an intellect-based sword that deals massive fire damage and possesses a unique mechanic: it inflicts an additional 98 points of fire damage against frozen targets. The creators were initially puzzled by this design, as it strongly suggests a "Battle Mage" playstyle where mages engage in melee combat rather than casting spells from a distance. While the raw numbers appear incredibly high for such an early level, the concept aligns with the developers' stated goal of preserving and expanding upon original class identities while introducing fresh, underserved playstyles like elemental or battle mages.
The discovery process involved deciphering mysterious scrolls found by leveling up a mage's comprehension skill, which led to a quest involving the legendary "Blade of Silver Lane." After failing to locate the sword in Shadowfang Keep through standard dungeon runs, the team realized it was a rare drop from Baron Silverlane. Once obtained and combined with a Scroll of the Saber using the game's weapon imbuing system, the Cold Flame Saber was forged. This item effectively bridges the gap between traditional mage abilities and melee combat by leveraging existing mechanics like Frost Nova and Frostbite procs to trigger its devastating fire damage, potentially scaling with spell power and interacting with talents like Shatter and Fingers of Frost.
The implications of this find extend beyond a simple new weapon; it hints at a potential revolution in class design for *Wild Forever*. Unlike previous expansions where items merely tweaked existing specs, these imbue scrolls seem to be unlocking entirely new ways to play classes that were previously static. The video suggests that Blizzard may be testing the viability of a dedicated Battle Mage spec by providing tools that allow mages to dual-wield or use swords with freezing effects, fundamentally changing how the class operates. While it is not yet confirmed if this will become a permanent, official spec, the existence of such items indicates a willingness to experiment and flesh out alternative builds for fun and depth, moving away from rigid meta-gaming toward more creative character customization. Ultimately, whether this is a temporary beta feature or the foundation for a major new class identity remains an exciting mystery that defines the early days of the *Wild Forever* experience.

Okay, so so you guys you guys told me
about this last night. This item dropped
as on the this is on a sub Reddit. Cold
Flame Saber seven intellect 2.0 speed
sword with 32 plus damage. Equip melee
attacks deal 98
fire damage additional fire damage
against frozen targets. So that means if
somebody has like a if somebody is is
like frost nova'd or they have a
frostbite proc, right? Or they're stuck
in a root, right? That feels like an
insane amount of damage. Like the first
off the scaling is is ridiculous. But I
guess this exists. I mean this is a
major it's definitely like a mage sword.
Against frozen targets is it designed
for mages is meant for mages. But I
guess people are saying like there's
like a battle mage like maybe this is
like for like a battle mage play style
who knows. I mean obviously that's what
it is. It's obviously like for like a
battle mage type of play style but it's
for level 21. Now is this something that
they're intending to do long term? Maybe
they just like threw it in the game in
the in the early levels just to see like
how people play out with it. I think
it's a really really intriguing. Why
would mage melee? I mean there's the the
fantasy of like a spell sword battle
mage type of thing. I mean that's that's
like a thing. I think the numbers are
insanely high like stupidly high. But
the concept of it I think is pretty
cool. So this kind of goes back to like
the the class design discussion that
I've talked about in the past where I
think when you're making classic plus,
right? In Wild Forever which is classic
plus, you need to maintain as many of
the original play styles as you can or
as much of the original play styles as
you can as an option. You need to
promote the underserved under developed
play styles like let's say a prop
paladin a shockadin, right? Maybe like
an elemental mage or something like
that, right? You change up the talents
and you add some stuff in the talents to
be able to support more of this stuff
which is great, right? You want to flesh
those things out really support the
classes that people want to play or the
specs that people want to play within
their classes, right? You play the class
not the spec. The last thing is kind of
like how those other specs exist where
you have like the shockadin or you know
you have these different builds that
people kind of come up with and they're
like, hey, you know, maybe this is like
an intriguing sort of off meta build
that you can do for fun and kind of see
what happens. I think you should help to
enable some of those other things to be
found, enable some of those other things
to be figured out. So, this is in a
different way than what I was imagining.
I think this kind of does that. But uh I
guess there's a video of it that we can
react to. Here it is, okay.
>> Day three of the WoW forever beta.
And while leveling up my mage's
comprehension skill, which allows us to
decipher these mysterious scrolls, I
received a message from a good friend of
mine, shineslights.
The previous day
>> Scroll of the saber, use it on a blade
of silver lane to create a powerful
weapon.
>> He had discovered something absolutely
insane.
While deciphering scrolls as a mage, he
found a rare item called scroll of the
saber and the
>> So, oh, this is coming from all these
these decipher things that you can do.
Okay.
>> Tooltip said, "Use on blade of silver
lane to create a powerful weapon." And
immediately, we had the same question.
"Where in the world have we heard that
name before?"
I'm sure some of you know exactly where
we went looking.
Shadowfang Keep. For anyone who played
classic WoW, the name silver lane should
sound very familiar. The most desirable
pieces of early
>> This is a this is a big ring. Uh I mean,
people even use this to twink at level
29.
>> game gear in classic. So, when we saw
blade of silver lane mentioned in this
mysterious scroll, we had a pretty
obvious place to start. The tooltip
didn't tell us where the sword was. It
only said, "Use on blade of silver lane
to create a powerful weapon." That's it.
So, we decided to assume the most
obvious possibility. Maybe the sword was
somewhere inside Shadowfang Keep. And if
it was, we were going to find it. We put
together a group of level 20 players and
headed into
>> Okay.
Um
>> After clearing the entire dungeon,
nothing. No hidden weapon, no clickable
object, no obvious quest, nothing. At
this point, we started wondering if we
had completely misunderstood the
tooltip. Maybe the
>> Well, I mean, did it just not drop? I
mean, cuz it could have just not
dropped. Maybe it has to drop on a boss,
right?
>> Blade of Silverlane wasn't actually
inside Shadowfang Keep. Maybe it was
somewhere in the open world. Maybe it
was part of a quest we hadn't discovered
yet.
>> Did he only clear it once?
Did he only clear it once? Like, you got
to farm it.
>> Or maybe we were just wasting our time.
But there was one thing we hadn't tried,
Baron Silverlane's loot table.
So, in the name of science, I convinced
my guild to run Shadowfang Keep again.
>> Okay.
Like, obviously. Okay, to be
to be very This is obviously what you
should have done.
I'm sorry.
No, I'm sorry.
But this is so funny.
Cuz that was like the obvious
like, the obvious thing to do.
>> And again, and again.
>> Yeah, like, clear the dungeon over and
over and over.
>> hoping that somehow this mysterious
weapon was sitting on Silverlane's loot
table.
>> I'm sorry. Okay.
>> After the fifth attempt, we decided to
take a break.
And during that break,
>> I mean, it's pretty easy cuz this guy's
right at the beginning. So, you just you
just It's like It's like you're doing
BRD arena runs.
>> I figured,
why not keep deciphering scrolls?
Maybe I could get my own scroll of the
saber and continue investigating. So,
for team morale, reason to have to
actually obtain could help me out.
And then, I found the answer.
Shineslights had done it.
He had become the first person we knew
of to actually obtain the weapon, Blade
of Silverlane. Our theory was correct.
The weapon really did drop
>> Yeah, so, you know what's funny about
this Blade of Silverlane, by the way?
Um, I did
Oh, look, it's Captain obvious.
I'm not
Like it's just fun It's just funny.
I think he's I mean, he's trying to He's
trying to like step-by-step lay it out,
right? For somebody that He's trying to
step-by-step lay it out for somebody who
has no idea what's going on. But, it's
just funny if you're like If you play
the game regularly, I don't know. Is he
stretching out the YouTube video? Maybe.
Maybe a little bit of stretching out the
YouTube video. Says the guy who always
has freaking 30-minute YouTube videos,
but I I feel like that's that's not a I
mean, that's just how it That's just how
it is, you know? That's just how it is.
I don't know. Maybe they're retail
players, right? Maybe they're retail
players.
You know, maybe they're like,
"Man, I got to go I got to go back, man.
I got to go back. It's taking too long.
They're not used to the They're not used
to be in Forging the Fires." Like us,
man. I don't know. So, here's here's
what's funny about this.
Let me show you. Yeah, dude, the SGC
grind I Dude, do you remember how many
hours I spent on that in Classic Launch?
Here's what's particularly funny about
this, the Blade of this whole thing. So,
I have one of these Blade of
Silverlanes.
I have I have the Blade of Silverlane.
But, I feel like he could have just
asked, "Has anybody seen Blade of
Silverlane drop?" Cuz there's a bunch of
people that ran as SFK. It this dropped
for me on my first SFK. So, I have this.
You know? It's crazy, right? Oh, I got
one as well. Yeah, I mean, he should I
feel like he should just ask. Like,
"Hey, has anybody seen this Blade of
Silverlane drop in SFK?" Anyway,
continue.
>> up off of Baron Silverlane. And that
meant there was only one weapon really
did drop off of Baron Silverlane. And
that meant there was only one thing left
to do, get back into Shadowfang Keep. I
immediately got back into the game,
rounded up the group, and we headed back
into Shadowfang Keep. Reset. Kill
Silverlane. Reset.
>> eventually get it.
>> So it drops, it was loud earlier.
>> Morthus
There it was, the weapon we'd been
looking for. And honestly, that was
already an incredible discovery. But
then we use the scroll of the saber and
combined it with Blade of Silver Lane
and there it was. And this brand new
weapon was called Cold
>> I think this is this is overtuned to
hell. I this night cuz if you think
about it you can't use it now, I'll be
able to use it later.
>> Flame saber and its effect reads equip.
But then you start asking the important
questions.
How do we freeze the target? Frostbite
>> Yeah, so it's like any anytime you have
like a frostbite, frost nova, there's
there's like a ton of freezes. But at
this level you pretty much just have Do
you even have frostbite at this level?
How did they change the talent trees? I
mean I think it's interesting. Like who
knows? Like in in practice it might not
really be that good. You end up having
like frost nova, frostbite proc,
anything that makes it basically look
like they're they're root. Might be fun
in duels, yeah. I'm skeptical. I mean it
could be really good. Yeah, it's a melee
attack. So it's like a spell blade type
thing or like a battle mage type thing.
I mean it seems pretty cool. I just I
worry if it's like too much damage.
But damage, like those numbers and stuff
can be tuned. And that's the thing and
this isn't like classic wow. People are
used to classic wow coming out and
everything is a is a certain way and it
has to be that way. Numbers and stuff
can be changed, but like design
decisions and concepts and stuff like
that, that's harder to get Blizzard to
the budge on. But I do think this is a
cool concept. I really do. I think this
is a cool concept. There's not a whole
lot of ways to freeze the target.
There's always a chance that that the
freeze breaks on damage, just naturally.
You have frost nova, you have a
frostbite proc. I don't know if Fingers
of Frost will affect the weapon because
Fingers of Frost is meant to like if
you're doing like a shatter combo or
something with your shatter combo
increases like the crit and all that.
Like it makes your crits way more
effective. How the shatter works,
shatter increases crit damage whenever
you have a frozen target. So, Fingers of
Frost is
hey, like just put whatever your next
frost spell that hits them or your next
spell cast that hits them, just treat it
as if the target is frozen even if
they're not, right? So, the idea is like
you get these big shatters. But, I don't
know if Fingers of Frost will work that
way because I don't think a weapon proc
will count as a cast spell by the
player. And if it does, then that would
probably change other things, too. I I
don't really know. So, if you get a
Fingers of Frost proc and that happens.
But, I I do think it's really
interesting to try this kind of stuff.
And I think it's really cool that people
find this kind of stuff out. You know
what I mean? I don't think it would
work. Yeah, I'm I'm not really sure. So,
I guess the tooltip was changing with
spell power.
>> 98 fire damage against frozen targets.
Potentially scaling with spell power.
>> Well, he can't he can't even test it yet
cuz it's level 21. So, we'll find out in
like a week, right? Week and a half.
>> But, we're not done. Because do you
remember those scrolls we've been
deciphering? The ones that allow you to
imbue weapons with different effects? We
remembered one in particular. Scroll of
Imbue Ice Knife. The scroll allows you
to imbue a dagger with an effect that
gives your attacks a chance to freeze
the target when you hit them.
>> Oh, that's interesting. Imbue a dagger
with magic for 1 hour causing it to
occasionally freeze foes on hit. But,
this is not a dagger. This is a sword.
But, this this would be really cool.
But, it's not a dagger.
>> That's when the pieces really start
coming together. We remembered something
else. Windfury weapon. And suddenly,
this wasn't just an interesting mage
weapon anymore. This started sounding
like some
>> Yeah.
Oh, when you we So, we won't be able to
even test this in the beta.
>> thing completely different.
>> I thought when I thought Windfury Totem
was level 32 30, but I guess it's 32.
>> attack speed. We have an effect that can
deal 98 additional fire damage against
frozen
>> Well, here's what he should have done.
Did he Did he test the imbued ice knife
on a sword?
Cuz he could grab any sword and test it.
Did he do that?
>> something else
>> Or is it daggers only? Cuz it says that
only dagger I tried
>> We have a low-level weapon with a
2-second attack speed.
We have an effect that can deal 98
additional fire damage against frozen
targets.
We have potential spell power scaling.
We have fingers of frost, which can
allow us to treat targets as frozen. We
have shatter, which dramatically
increases our spell critical chance
against frozen targets.
We have weapon imbuing scrolls.
>> Shatter got a big nerf, by the way.
>> We have windfury weapon, and we
potentially have ways of freezing
targets through weapon attacks. So, what
does this start to sound like? A
traditional frost mage? Not exactly. It
starts sounding an awful lot like
a battle mage. And this is where things
get really interesting because we've
seen hints that Wild Forever may have
something completely new waiting for us.
And so far, mage hasn't suddenly
received some completely new identity
through its existing talent trees.
>> I do think it's cool to have stuff like
this.
>> Or the developers behind Wild Forever
are keeping mages' traditional classic
identity intact
while introducing a brand new way to
play the class.
What if battle mage isn't just a fun
idea?
What if this is the beginning of a
completely new mage play style?
>> It could be. I think I think that'd be
cool.
>> Not just
>> Coping AI preaching. He does kind of
sound
He does kind of sound like an AI.
>> just as a gimmick, but as an actual
build. Maybe you equip a one-handed
sword.
>> No, like his his pacing of his speech
>> Maybe you use imbued ice knife to give
your attacks a chance to freeze your
target.
>> You think this is an AI script?
>> with coldflame saber to deal massive
additional damage against frozen
enemies. And suddenly, your mage isn't
standing 30 yards away casting frost
bolt anymore. You're running directly
into melee, and that's only one
possibility.
>> I don't know. You guys really think it's
an AI script?
>> Cuz we've already seen other weapon and
viewing scrolls.
For example, scroll of imbued spark. The
tool tip says, "Imbue a sword with magic
for 1 hour and causes your flame blast
cool down to reset when you're struck by
a melee attack." Now, what exactly is
flame blast?
We know what fire blast is.
So, maybe it's simply a different name
or a typo, or maybe it's an ability we
haven't seen yet. Maybe it's something
completely new.
We don't know.
But the fact that these scrolls are
specifically modifying weapons and
giving them effects
>> Yeah, I I definitely I definitely do
think like like a battle mage is
definitely like going to be a thing.
Like they're trying to they're
definitely trying to like give you some
things you could do. Even if you come in
and boom.
>> situation.
A frost weapon that freezes enemies.
A fire weapon that applies some kind of
stacking burn
>> Dude, I hate that you guys said this cuz
now I
I can't stop thinking about it.
>> A different weapon that interacts with
defensive abilities.
Maybe you dual wield. Maybe you use a
sword and a dagger. Maybe different
imbues create completely different play
styles.
And suddenly, you aren't just playing a
mage. You're building your own version
of a battle mage.
Now, I want to be very clear.
We don't know that battle mage is
actually coming to Wild Forever.
This is a theory.
Everything we've discovered so far could
ultimately lead some
>> Maybe it Maybe it is an AI script.
I don't really know what AI scripts are
read like cuz it's hard.
>> or completely different.
But that's what makes this beta so
exciting. We're only 3 days in
and we're already discovering weapons,
scrolls,
>> I do I do think this is pretty freaking
sick.
>> and your actions that raise questions
that we would have never thought to ask
in a wild classic. And if this is only
what we've discovered the first clue
towards an entirely new Maybe the Cold
Flame Saber is simply a cool low-level
weapon.
Awesome.
Or maybe we're looking at the first clue
towards an entirely new way to play
Mage.
>> I think what it is is they they throw it
in there as like a hey, what what if we
just did this with Mages and just see
how it works, right? It's like hey,
maybe we can expand on this. No, I don't
think he's AI. Shadow was saying the
script is an AI script. Once it got in
my head and I started listening for it
and like I don't know. I I I just don't
know.
>> And honestly,
I can't wait to find out. What do you
guys think? Do you think Battle Mage
could actually become a as many of these
discoveries as possible while the
>> I don't know, man. You got to say.
No, I mean look, the thing is like you
got to you got to you got to do your
thing, dude.
I don't think this guy has used AI
before.
You got to do your thing, right? Yeah.
Uh
you got like You think the entire thing
is AI? Yeah, I I mean I I don't know. I
don't know. Like like none of that like
none of that stuff I don't even care
about the AI stuff, right? It's just
funny. It's just funny. I I think the
idea is cool. I think the idea of having
like a Battle Mage or something is cool.
It it totally falls in line with exactly
what I was talking about with the the
class design stuff, right? Where it's
like hey, like let's find ways and it's
it's done in a way that I wouldn't even
think about. It's a cool thing. It's a
cool thing. It's a cool discovery to be
able to have stuff that Mages can do or
let's say any class, right? Any class
can go out there and find a way to
expand on their class design and have
items out in the world that just change
their characters. It unlocks a different
play style for your character. And I do
think that's really cool. I I do think
that is a a very very cool thing to do
and an interesting way that I personally
had not really I mean there are certain
items that like unlock your class even
in Burning Crusade or Vanilla, but this
is in a very different and on a much
more
larger scale than what we've been used
to seeing in Vanilla and in Burning
Crusade. I know they kind of did some
stuff like this in SOD and I've I've had
my gripes with SOD, but not everything
SOD did was bad. I think I think SOD was
a really really important period of time
in the game Season of Discovery because
it allowed them to just like throw
everything at the wall. You know, they
they just throw everything at the wall,
see what works, see what doesn't work
and while I think a lot of the systems
in Season of Discovery were not good not
not all of them, but a lot of them I
don't think were very good. I think a
lot of the gameplay like it felt good to
press your buttons. So like the net
result but like the systems there was a
lot of band-aid fixes and just kind of
like jerry-rigging stuff to make it
work, but I do think they did a good job
with what they had to work with.
Anyways, thank you guys so much for
watching. YouTube, Instagram, Discord,
Reddit, Twitch, Twitter, Kick, Rumble,
Twitter X, did I say everything?
Instagram, Discord, Reddit, TikTok,
Facebook, everything everything is asvan
TV. So follow me everywhere, sub to
everything, don't follow me in real
life, follow me everywhere else but not
in real life and I will see you guys
next time. I think that I think Blizzard
is cooking up some fun stuff here so
it's it's interesting to follow along
with and I think it's cool that people
are kind of figuring stuff out and
sharing it with everybody. Thanks for
watching. I'll see you guys next time.
