Guys, that is such a fun train that they
have in the middle of the mall. And
guess what? It was made in Shenzhen. And
that's the topic of today's video, guys.
What if there was a city that was so
crucial and so essential to the future
of the modern world? And literally,
nobody knew its name unless you are in
e-commerce or manufacturing or, you
know, gadgetry. For sure, Tim Cook knows
what Shenzhen is. He's probably been
there 600 times. But listen, everybody
knows Silicon Valley. Steve Jobs, Elon
Musk, Mark Zuckerberg, that's probably
been the most famous innovation hub in
the world for the past 20 years. But
there is another city that is just as
important because think about it guys,
if Silicon Valley is the world's
software laboratory, then Shenzhen
became the hardware laboratory for the
world. And you need both to build a
gadget. You need the hardware and you
need the software. But listen guys, even
this camera that I'm filming this on
right now, the Osmo Pocket 3, you know,
I might upgrade to the Osmo Pocket 4,
but they banned it in the US anyway. I'm
not in the US right now, so I can get
it. Anyway, what I'm saying is it was
Shenzhen designed, Shenzhen made. So,
I'm just saying for sure you have
touched more Shenzhen made products than
probably Americanmade products in the
past 5 years, whether you knew it or
not. So today, what I'm going to be
doing is going over seven major
misconceptions about the most important
gadget city on planet Earth. Point
number one, guys, Shenzhen is not just a
major big factory. I know a lot of you
guys are thinking it's probably big gray
bicycles, China stereotype circa
Beijing, 1990, 1985, even 1995. I get
it. But listen, I'll tell you this.
First of all, the factories do not look
like that anymore. I'm not saying none
of them do, but they really don't look
like that anymore in 2026. But it's
really about an entire ecosystem. It's
not just one big factory. It's about the
one company makes the battery, another
one makes the camera, another one makes
the packaging. There's another machine
that makes the machines. It gets very
meta. It's like inception. Listen, we're
talking about thousands of specialized
companies close enough to work together.
So if you need to change a part, you can
visit a supplier that day. You know what
I mean? like the so the real superpower
is not just manufacturing for Shenzhen.
It is the proximity. This is the key
word guys. Proximity. Proximity and
density. Okay. So in America for
example, you can make great products
because America pays the most. So you
can get the most people from around the
world that are smart, right? Like
America gets a lot of the elite
immigrants from across the world, right?
But your designer could be in
California. Your engineer is in Texas
and Sugarland, right? Your designer's in
Certino. your suppliers in Ohio because
everybody knows that you know
manufacturing hardcore physical
manufacturing is still done more in the
heartland if at all in America anymore
right so that would be like trying to
cook dinner right but your refrigerator
stove microwave and grocery store are
all like a mile apart you could still do
it but it just wouldn't be convenient
you know what I mean in Shenzhen the
whole kitchen is there like mobile fuku
super efficient they track the KPIs they
figured out the algo to make it super
streamlined point number two guys
Shenzhen
has speed iteration. So point number one
was proximity. Point number two is
iteration. Speed speed iteration is what
I'm trying to say. And I think that a
lot of people think that China's
advantage if they're thinking the old
way, right? Not the new way is just
cheap labor. And that's what they think
Wong is for, Canton is for, etc. I mean,
Dong, there's a bunch of manufacturing
zones all across China, right? It
depends on what sector you're trying to
manufacture for, right? But I'm telling
you, it's actually speed. The speed of
iteration because think about it. You
build something, you test it, you
realize it kind of sucks, you can fix
it, then you got to try again until it
doesn't suck anymore. And everybody
knows like a product cycle is takes at
least four times before something stops
sucking, right? So listen, there's a lot
of people online right now like that
want to move to Shenzhen if they're a
small company or at least they're
sending somebody to go live in Shenzhen
because there's no way they can like
send something out to get tested for
like 3 months and wait for it to come
back. I'm talking about it just kills
momentum. And if you think about modern
businesses, they have to be so like
agile even more than they used to have
to be. I think agility in business was
always an asset, but like now you really
got to be agile. And I just think that,
you know, you just got to be able to
move on to the next version. So it's a
it's a lot like working on your jumper
in the gym. Imagine if like, you know,
everybody shot jumpers on their like a
backyard hoops like on a hill. Imagine
every time you miss a shot, it rolled
all the way back down the hill and you
had to get the rebound to shoot again
versus somebody's on a flat ground in a
nice enclosed cage with a shooting
machine. They can get so many more reps
up quicker than you can. Their iteration
speed is insane. They can get up 3,000
shots in the time that it takes you to
get up 300 shots. That's a unfair
advantage,
but it's like that's how they built
their system so they can iterate. And
with iteration comes advantages, right?
So point number three guys, Shenzhen
also builds what's underneath the label
guys and I'm not just talking about
purple labeling, white labeling
products, you know, OEM, even though
that's a huge thing in Shenzhen as well.
We're talking about it builds the
machines that builds the products. So
robot arms, testing equipment, automated
assembly assistant systems. So it it
would basically be like even in the mid
heartlands, right? Like where manu some
manufacturing still exists in America,
right? in the flyover states. Not
dissing them by calling them that, by
the way. Don't think I'm just some
coastal elite. Anyway, I'm saying that
like basically those machines that are
made in America, those machines and the
machines that made the machines or who
assembled the machines, it was still
from China. And it reminds me of uh the
ZP shipping cranes that they tried to
cover up the American flag recently at
uh I want to say, was it a presidential
speech or something like that? And then
the wind blew the flag away. And then it
was just so clear that they were giving
talking about American manufacturing
while on a like a Chinese crane, like a
Chinese like marine shipping crane.
Anyway, pop up that clip. So, I'm just
saying that everything the source
material is still tracing back to China.
It reminds me of like peptides right
now. Everybody's talking about, oh, do
you did you get the California ones or
did you get the ones from China? They
all come from China. The raw API all
comes from Hongjo or Guangjo. 10 out of
10 guaranteed. But yes, maybe the
lifelization. Anyway, I won't get too
much into that because I don't want to
get banned on YouTube, but I'm just
saying that everything all it's all
roads lead back to China. It's funny
because it's a all old saying, all like
all roads lead back to Rome. It's really
like all roads lead back to Shenzhen or
maybe Yiu or maybe like one of the other
cities. So, point number four guys, Hua
Changang Bay is the new Akiabara. So if
you guys know, you know, only my true
gadget heads, true electronic heads know
about Akiabara. Akiabara. So there was a
time when Japan was dominating
everything. Your Sony, your cell phone
was Sony Ericson. Your Walkman was Sony.
Everything was Panasonic, everything was
Toshiba, you were driving a Mitsubishi
Galant, you know, or Eclipse back when
those were fire. Um, listen. So that was
in the '90s. The Akiabara was like the
center of the electronics universe for
the whole country. Not just the whole
country, the whole Asia region. I'm
talking about Eastern and Western
Hemisphere. Weird gadgets, you know,
tiny components that nobody else
carried. You You broke something on your
like no name brand second tier brand
Japanese Walkman. You could still get it
fixed there. And basically that is now
Hua Changang Bay because recently guys,
I actually broke this camera that I'm
filming this on right now, the Osmo
Pocket 3. I dropped it and I smashed the
screen and the motherboard was messed
up. DJI, which is funny. It's a Shenzhen
company. They told me, "Send it back. It
was going to be $100. They're going to
take like oh, probably $150. It's going
to take like two weeks, maybe 10 days."
I I took it to Haang Bay. Pop up some
photos of Hua Chang Bay. They fixed it
in two days. And they fixed the
motherboard for $80 all in. I'm telling
you, it's insane. it. That was like if
you need to get something fixed in
Hatcha Bay, that is like having a Best
Buy. That is like having the gadget
section of Amazon. That is like having
uh what's that called? Micro Centers.
Whatever whatever [music] other gadget
store that you ever imagined from the
past 20 years in IRL. Pop that up on a
map. Huang Bay Shenzhen. You should
know. Point number five, guys. Tesla did
force the whole system to level up just
like LeBron is going to force the Sixers
to level up. So let me give you guys a
point. So a strong ecosystem doesn't
just help the big companies, right? The
big companies can also improve the
ecosystem. So for example, when Tesla
came into China, right? It demanded
quality. They wanted speed, consistency,
and scale from the suppliers, right? And
basically what that did is it forced all
the suppliers to up their game. And then
once the suppliers learned from
supplying Tesla, because Tesla had very
exacting standards, they were able to up
their game forever. and that upped the
game of Neo and it up the game of this
and that and basically one major company
can raise the standard up and that is
like LeBron joining the Sixers guys just
to give you a non- tech example of tech
things and STEM things put you to sleep
because I'll tell you this everybody who
was 5 minutes late for practice even if
you're a role player 15th man on the
Sixers bench you're probably showing up
half an hour before you have to you
probably showed up 1 minute early if you
show up 1 minute early now you're 10
minutes late when Braun's there you know
because everybody's going to be held to
a different championship standard. And
that is what LeBron going to the Sixers
is what represented Tesla going to
Shanghai and building that Gigafactory
because it just upped everybody's level.
A rising tide lifts all boats. Point
number six, guys, Shenzhen went from
being a place where Hong Kong gangsters
used to escape the heat of the
authorities and eat choke, you know what
I mean, and other haka foods or
whatever, you know, into a giant tech
campus. Shanzh Jung converted from
literally a place that criminals would
run to if they got if stuff got hot with
the you know Tailo the the police in
Hong Kong and it shifted to be a
gigantic Google tech campus. It looks
super polished now. Parts of it used to
look rough. You can still see some of it
in like Baan and like you know these
developing districts. But I am telling
you right now there are parks, coffee
shops and the coffee shops are not
cheap. I I bought a $15 USD coffee, you
know, from Kenya, but filtered through a
Shenzhen machine. Huge office towers,
modern subways, electric cars
everywhere. You know, I'm talking about
electric scooters everywhere. Even
though I will say that the the electric
scooter situation driving on the
sidewalks is kind of crazy in Shenzhen.
Um, you can I'm talking about palm scan
delivery drones, you know, robot um,
security guards, you know, whether they
look like little RJD2s or little tin
cans or trash cans or they're going to
start looking like rolling balls or
whatever in the future. You know, young
engineers grabbing lunch just like it is
the new Silicon Valley. I'm not saying
Silicon Valley still isn't Silicon
Valley, but it's really like spread to
the peninsula now because obviously
everybody left SF because the SF core
crumbled and etc. is all boarded up and
the malls are shutting down. Anyway,
it's probably not coming back if you ask
me, but who knows? I'm I don't really
know. I'm just guessing. So, I'll tell
you this. So, if you think about in
America, tech and manufacturing are very
separated. The tech people are like very
shiny and very Tim Cook and very uh who
else? Like everybody that is in the Bay,
you know what I mean? It's it's just a
certain way with like the hoodies and
the cold brews and the matchas and the
hot pot and the hiking with the
Patagonia or the arterics or whatever.
And the manufacturing is like hard hats
and it's like the docks and the union
and you know what everybody I'm telling
you in Shanzhen is both because it
actually already had that docs like
gritty blueco collar merchant tile like
haka like trading clan hub you know Hong
Kong pirate escapey vibe to it and then
it turned into the Google campus but
like in America they keep the blue
collar and the white collar work
separate in China they just put it
together and you know it's cool and that
like we said that builds speed that
builds iteration speed. It builds
proximity. It just allows you to do fail
forward faster. Right? And point number
seven, guys, here's the last thing that
people don't know is that Shanzhan is
the new model for the world. Okay? So,
innovation does not have one
headquarters anymore. Remember, it used
to only be the bay for a while. Then,
you know, Seattle came up, you had, you
know, you had Microsoft, you had Amazon,
you had some things, right? And
basically, Silicon Valley has software.
Okay. Of course, AI, venture capital,
the access to capital is huge. I will
acknowledge that for sure. That's a big
huge pro of America, right? Like just
you you you want 100 billion, you want
300 billion, here you go, right? Just
give me some ROI. But I'll tell you this
nowadays, Taiwan has advanced chips,
right? Tokyo has precision engineering,
Soul has electronics. You know, they got
their companies that are popping now.
It's not just K-pop anymore. Boston has
biotech and Shenzhen has hardware,
design, components, manufacturing and
scale all connected in one place. The
old model, like we said, the old
American model is separated everything
across regions and here and there. And
you know, you have the office downtown,
the factories far away. Shanzhan
compresses it. I went to the BYD
headquarters in Pashini, too. Shout out
to Pashini Robot. Shout out to BYD. I
saw it, bro. They will have the CEO
still hang out right next to the car
factory. It is not segregated. It is not
separated. It's not compartmentalized
because they love the speed of iteration
and they love proximity. And that is
what gives them the agility and the
ability to keep build the future and
whatever is next, which is why we're
covering it in the global next show.
That's a plug. So, I'm not saying that
America needs to copy Shenzhen because
it may be impossible to to be honest
because there's just so many competing
interests and not everybody's on the
same page, right? But, uh, it's still
fine, right? You don't need to copy
Shenzhen. You just need to understand it
because maybe the next generation of
important cities is like, you know, ones
that connect AI, robotics, engineering,
manufacturing, and everyday life. And
it's a good place to raise kids. There's
so many kids in Shenzhen. It's
unbelievable. And there's a multiple
factors that go into that. I think
Shenzhen is one of the nicest, newest
cities in China and there's actually
still Cantonese and the Cantonese people
like to have a lot of kids statistically
because and um basically what I'm saying
is Shenzhen is not the old world
catching up. It is the one version of
the new world showing up early. I really
think most of the future cities in the
world are going to mimic Shenzhen. So
listen, what I'm trying to say is this.
The more I spent time in Shenzhen, two
weeks doing business, living, going to
the gym, whatever, I just realized that
if you look in the news, everything is
either terrifying or everything is
amazing, right? And the truth is just
way more interesting and way more
nuanced. And if we can help people
understand that with the Global Next

to be something amazing that we can add
to the world. uh add value on a business
level, but also just an emotional level
because sometimes when the world is
changing and people don't understand it,
they become frustrated. When people
become frustrated, they lash out. And
when people lash out or crash out, it
could just look crazy, right? So anyway

understand the ecosystem, once you
understand the robot stack that you know
Pashini is doing because they sell the
sensor technology and they also send
sell the robot data modeling that
actually is the firmware, the software,
the hardware inside of like a robot's
brain that allows it to act human.
Basically, you will understand the world
better because robots are going to be a
part of the world and the robots more
than likely will come out of Shenzhen.
Like we said, America's banning a lot of
stuff. They're banning the DJI. They're
banning the humanoid robots. Who knows?
Whatever it is, you know, I'm sure some
of these things are negotiable with the
winds of time and, you know, you know,
give me Yeah, I take this off the table,
I put it back on the table, you know,
whatever. That's a whole another video.
What I'm saying is there's a city that
is quietly shaping the world outside of
the purview of the general American
public and it is the next Silicon
Valley, but it doesn't look anything
like Silicon Valley. It might look like
