THE RAVENS FINALLY MADE A MOVE AT KICKER…BUT THERE’S STILL ONE HUGE PROBLEM!

So, the Baltimore Ravens have officially finalized their practice squad. But the biggest surprise is that they actually brought in another kicker to compete with Tyler Loop. When I saw that, I was hyped. I was excited. I even tweeted out, "It is really a new regime with the Baltimore Ravens." But after doing a little bit more digging, I really truly wonder how much of a competition it really will be. Jake Moody is the kicker that the Baltimore Ravens signed to their practice squad. And this is the same Jake Moody who just last season played for not one, not two, but three separate teams. This is the same Jake Moody. You know what? Listen directly from a 49ers fan how they felt about him just last year. It's over. It's finally over. The 49ers have waved Jake Moody according to reports. I have no idea how he made it this far, but if he had made it to week two, if he were on the sideline with the Niners, it would have looked insane. It would have looked as weird as Bill Bellichic having his girlfriend on the sideline. Everyone knew the Niners needed to wave Jake Moody weeks ago. And the 49ers Kyle Shanahan wanted us to believe wanted us to believe in Jake when Jake didn't believe in Jake. But all it took was one missed field goal for the whole charade to come crashing down for Kyle Shanahan to finally stop backing him. So what is the ultimate legacy of Jake Moody on the 49ers? Well, he missed a kick in every playoff game he was in, including an extra point in the fourth quarter of the Super Bowl, which set up overtime, which the 49ers lost. So, he is as responsible as anyone for the 49ers losing their most recent Super Bowl. And then last year, he was as responsible as anyone as the 49ers uh for the 49ers locker room completely unraveling when Debo Samuel went up to him and told him to lock in after missing his third field goal. I mean, Debo did it the wrong way, but he really expressed what every player and fan was thinking. And then now Debo Samuel is in Washington in shape and playing really well. He's motivated because he doesn't have Jake Moody to ruin his day every day. It's going to be interesting to see how much better the 49ers play now that they know that their kicker probably won't ruin everything. Although, it's remains to be seen how much better Greg Joseph is than him. I'm assuming they sign Greg Joseph, but really it doesn't matter. Anyone who isn't named Jake Moody is an upgrade at this point. >> Well, that certainly wasn't the biggest vote of confidence directly from Grant Con, who's been covering the 49ers for years. But Jake Moody, where did he come from? What's his history? Well, he actually was with Jesse Mentor for one of Mentor's years at Michigan. So, there's that familiarity there. But let's look at his recent history in the NFL is that he was originally drafted in the third round of the 2023 draft by the 49ers. After a solid rookie year, his tener in San Francisco was derailed by inconsistency and a high ankle sprain leading to his release early in the 2025 season, which we just highlighted. He had a brief stint with the Bears before joining the Commanders late in 2025, where he performed well down the stretch and ended up resigning there in March of this year. So, the Commanders were like, "Hey, we need you back, my friend. You coming back. You did so well. Hey, we might have our kick of the future." But then it says struggles with accuracy during the 2026 training camp. this training camp right here that we would just got out of and a preseason game against Miami where he hit an upright on a short attempt sealed his departure. And that's who the Baltimore Ravens just signed as competition for Tyler Loop. Honestly, I I really don't think it's competition at all. This seems like not even a warning shot to Tyler Loop. This seems like they may be trying to send him a tiny tiny tiny tiny message, but nothing powerful at all. Uh, I think Tyler Loop, he knows that his job is still safe. I think every single Ravens fan knows that Tyler Loop's job is still safe. Let's listen to Jesse Mentor's comments on both Jake Moody and Tyler Loop heading into week one. >> Yeah, Jake's just kind of been on the radar. um and he's a guy that's had success in this league and you know really just felt like adding a guy and and um you know it's whatever is best for the team at that particular moment. So we added a guy to to compete on the practice squad and kind of see how it shakes out from there. >> I mean I I don't really I I have a lot of confidence in Tyler still. Uh I think again he's had a great training camp. I expect him to be our kicker going into Indianapolis. Uh but I think again you're always trying to just have every scenario covered. Um, and so that's what we're trying to do as a team. >> Now, ever since Jesse Mentor has been the head coach of the Baltimore Ravens, I've been pretty much on board with 99% of his decision-making for this team. But this will be one of those things where I feel like I got to give a little push back because I I don't know if it's truly competition for Tyler Lu, but there's something that Jesse Mentor said that stood out to me in his comments about the kicking situation. And he said with Jake Moody, hey, he's somebody that's been on our radar for a while. But when he spoke about Tyler Loop, he said that we expect him to be our kicker heading into week one against the Indianapolis Colts. He said there's an expectation that Tyler Loop is the guy, but he did not finalize anything. And you know, it even goes beyond that because he could have been like, "Hey, we expect Tyler Loop to be our kicker for this season. We expect Tyler Loop to be our guy this year." But Jesse Mentor, he didn't say anything about any scenarios past week one. So maybe, just maybe, Jesse Mentor knows exactly what's going on and he just don't want to come out and say it. So we'll see the actions of the Baltimore Ravens. We'll see exactly what they do. But hopefully this can all be a wash and Tyler Loop can go out there and just kill it. I don't know why, but it seems like the closer we get to week one, the longer uh it takes for the season to start." I don't know. I disagree, man. I feel like things are flying right now. I feel like it's almost moving too fast. Now we're gonna have a like I can't even necessarily call it a slow period before the season starts, but it's things are they not even really slowing down. No, we almost at full go, but things are crazy. But no, I appreciate you watching the videos. I I appreciate you being here. I appreciate you sending in a question, too. Thank you very much for that. He said, u being our head coach, hopefully he can finally get our DBs to start catching the ball. Uh there has been plenty of games where the Ravens defense has had opportunities to catch picks, but they tend to drop them. That's real right there. That's real. Marlon Humphrey, he used to be like that, but now that man got some hands now. Nate Wiggins, oh man, he know how to drop some picks for sure. Um, Kyle Hamilton, too. Super duper Kyle. He the best best safety in the world, but them hands, woo, it could be a little rough sometimes, but he going to get it. Even Malachi St. Malachi Starks could have started the season perfectly last year because Josh Allen threw him one and oh man, I wish he could have got that pick, but he dropped. Oh, it was I think it was the first or second play. It was Josh Allen first pass I'm pretty sure of the season. It was definitely on the first drive. But anyway, continuing. Uh he said, "Sometimes these drops have caused our team to lose games. The most recent game I can think of is when Kyle Hamilton dropped that pick against the Oh my goodness, that was that was a tough game to lose, man." He said, "When Kyle Hamilton dropped that pick against the Browns and then Jameus Winston made us pay for it." Obviously, I know that one interception doesn't determine the whole game, but it definitely could have ended the game. Even last year, week one against the Bills, Starks could have started his season. I should have just kept reading. See, we we on the same page. I I got love for you for that one. Anyway, he said um even last year, week one against the Bills, Starks could have started his season off with a bang with a pick against Josh Allen, but again, it was dropped again. I know one play doesn't turn the whole game, but these picks do a lot of damage. It can mess with the quarterback or even shift momentum. Yes, it can. Changes everything like that and gives us the ball back, gives another opportunity to score and takes away points from them. Uh he said, um he said uh speaking of stalks, I don't really see a lot of people talking about him. Obviously, we know he's a good safety, but I more so hear people excited about Mike Green, Nate Wiggins, or even Rocoan Smith. But Starks is my pick to take the biggest leap. I think he has the best hands-on defense, and I think he's shown that he can be a serious ball hawk in this league. I think he ends this season with seven picks at least. He said, "What do you think?" And stay safe. Hey, appreciate that, Dari. That would be lovely. Seven and seven. That's a lot of picks. But I think and he said it himself that now he'll be playing with a lot less hesitation. And that's makes sense. like a rookie safety. That's heavy responsibility right there. Heavy. And he wasn't even supposed to be starting from jump. It was supposed to be Audarius Washington and Super Duper Kyle, but our Darius Washington got hurt. So, Malachi Starks had to start a lot earlier than anticipated. So, but now he'll be in a better system and he'll be one year removed from his rookie year, so he should be a lot more comfortable. So, yeah, Malachi Starks is a good candidate for a breakout uh player. QB2 of the future. Next question came from Oreo Cook. Man, I ain't heard from you in a long time. I'm glad to hear from you and I hope you're doing really, really, really, really good. I know you was on a weight loss journey where you lost a crazy amount of weight and I continue to commend you for that cuz that's like you you're the real deal for that, man. So, I hope you're doing really really good, my friend. Anyway, he said, "I ain't graving. It's been a while." Yes, it has been a long long time. Not a full year, I wouldn't say, cuz you'll definitely email him during the season, this last season, but it has been a really long time. Anyway, he said, um, though I think the last time I sent you a question, I was an 18-year-old freshman in college and now I'm a 20-year-old junior in college. Oh, okay. Well, okay. Well, maybe it has been a little more than No, I really thought it was it was less time than that. I know it ain't been no no two years. Not not not a whole two more years that you done got older. No way. It ain't been that long. Anyway, he said, um, I'll keep this question short. Uh, do you see potential to develop Joe Feniano into a potential long-term QB2 option when Huntley leaves? Yes and no. Because with Joe Feniano, um, that man, he's a bowler. He's a baller. I really do want to see him get a chance uh in the league to play. Um, it obviously would not be on the same team with a Lamar Jackson, but I feel like with Tyler Huntley, with him being a QB, too, I feel like it's more than just the on the- field stuff. I think it's the vibes and I know some people say, "Well, the vibes don't play on the field, but I think with Tyler Huntley, it's the camaraderie. Um, it's him being in that room with Lamar Jackson uh for all the meetings, all the preparation, all the time they spend off the field together, too. Uh, I I I think it's just really their their chemistry, their their rapport, and their friendship that plays a big role in Tyler Huntley being QB2 for the Ravens. Because if the Ravens were to obviously Lamar knows business is business, but say for instance, the Ravens, they got rid of Tyler Huntley. They got rid of him. That could and and I know it's business. Feelings ain't supposed to be involved, but feelings do get involved. It happens. That could rub Lamar the wrong way. It it it really could possibly. Um but so I feel like with Tyler Huntley, like we'll we'll see. We'll see cuz again, but at the same time, it could give Tyler Huntley an opportunity to go somewhere and go flourish and maybe he can get another opportunity to start yet again because Lamar did have some time without Tyler Huntley on his team. But then they of course brought Tyler Hunley back and Tyler Hunley helped save our season when Lamar was out and I think that's also something that the Ravens remember. Obviously it was under a different regime but still they like hey Tyler Huntley he he could do some stuff especially from what he showed when Joe Feniano put him put up that pressure on him in that last preseason game when Tyler Huntley came out there in that third preseason game and he had the one of the best drives that he ever had in his whole career. Man, that that that that thing was flawless, man. But anyway, um, could he be QB2 of the future? Can Joe Feniano do that? Yeah, he could be, but he could also be QB1 somewhere else. Next question came from my guy Sunny. He said, "I know it's kind of early, but I have no idea what the Ravens are doing. Refusing to bring in any competition for Tyler Loop. He said, "As I'm typing this, obviously this is before we signed Jake Moody, but he said, as I'm typing this message, kickers are being taken off the board. I can just see it now. Loop is going to cost us a few games this year unless EDC does something." So EDC obviously did something. Now, there was one kicker. I think his last name was Goop or Goop. I forgot what his last name was, but a lot of Ravens fans had wanted the Ravens to sign him. Even Chuck Pagano, Chuck Pagano even chimed in uh when that kicker got released and he said, "Ravens?" At first, I thought it was like a parody account, but no, it was Chuck Pagano's account. I said, "Wow, that's crazy." But anyway, um a lot of Ravens fans were upset. They were like, "Man, why didn't the Ravens sign him?" Well, the waiver wire, that kicker was claimed by somebody who had a much higher um spot on the waiver wire than the Baltimore Ravens did. So, even if they put in a claim for that kicker, they would not have been able to get him. So, insert Jake Moody. Next questions came from my guy Jaw. He said, "Well, I was wrong about Peoples cuz he made the team." Yeah, there were a couple people that thought Peoples was wasn't going to make the team. And initially when people were saying that like a couple of weeks ago, I was like, "No, ain't no way. Peoples, he gonna be set. But then again, seeing him play late in that last preseason game, I was like, "Oh, well, maybe not." Now, I remember even Jeff Ree talking about it, too, that Peoples might have been on the bubble. And I was like, "Whoa, that's crazy." But he did obviously end up making a team. He said, "Um, but I was right on Long Beam and Ada Isaac, even though I hope we bring Benny Rucker and Ada back on the practice squad." Well, boom. All three of them are. So, you got that. He said, "Surprised we kept Vohees because I wanted to keep pounds, but a lot of people wanted us to keep Diego pounds. But yeah, now he's over there with the Chiefs. He said, "But we traded him to the CH." Oh, you just said it, too. He said, "Hope Ali proves me wrong, but I'll rather Randall at that third running back spot." Uh, we just signed Moody for kicking competition, which is good. And he played for mentor at Michigan. I'm ready to see the starters now. Hope my guy Javo, he tied all the preseason stuff. He tied all the of the offseason stuff. He ready to see this team in action like we all are. And he also said this after the uh the game against the Commanders. He said, "If this is a preview of what's to come with this defense, all we got to do is score 24 to 30 points and we are good." No, no, no, no. If what we saw in the in the preseason is a preview of what's to come. All Ravens got to do is score 10 points a game and they will go undefeated because every single team one score a game. One score. I think the Eagles got what? Seven. And that was at the very very end. But they got seven. Vikings got three. Then the Commanders got three. So, we score 10. Hey, we in there. That's we we good to go. So, hey, hopefully we'll see though. Anyway, he said, "I just love how the defense flies all over the field. Sunday is cut and man, I wish we can keep everyone cuz Rucker showed up and Ada and others. I believe Joe and Ethan are locks." Hey, boom. He ended up being right. Joe and that boy said Joe Faniano is going to be a lock. I didn't think he was a lock. I thought he played extremely well, but I didn't think he was going to be a lock cuz it was QB3. But hey, he obviously made it. He said, "Regardless of what happens, we need to do something at the kicker position because I'll be darn if we get another Billy Cunningham situation or another loop from last season, even though he got us a top 15 pick, lol." So there you go, Javo. Jake Moody for you. How you feeling, Javo? I know you're going to let me know. I look forward to seeing your comments soon. He said, "We got a Randle stiff arm and I loved it. We traded a Koy to the Giants, which means we might keep Brderick Washington, which boom, they did." Did he even play this preseason? I don't remember seeing him. Maybe he did, but I don't remember seeing number 96 out there. I don't. He was somebody that I actually thought might get cut this off seasonason because they could have saved some money. Um, and he missed a lot of last year, too. But no, he stayed. He was a big surprise for me this whole offseason. Uh, and he said, "I think Vohees, uh, Ali, K, and Longab gets cut." Well, yeah, like you said in the other email, uh, you got Ka and Longab, right? Uh, just Vohees and Ali. They obviously ended up staying. Next question came from my guy Avery. He said, "Angraaven, I'm back." Welcome back. He said, "Hope everything is great with you and the family and team keep it clean. How do you feel about this Moody signing? Let me know your thoughts and do you think he would win the job." Um um again, initially I was I was excited about it. I was like, "Oh yeah, look at the Ravens checking all the corners and whatnot, crossing off every box." But then I looked into him. I said, "Oh, okay. Well, let's see. Let's just hope for the best from Tyler Loop and that Jake Moody we don't even need him and Tyler Loop just goes out there and kills it because I just initially I thought it was it was real competition but then looked at looking at Jake Mood I was like oh maybe it's not but then at the same time listening to what Jake Jess I was about to say Jake Mentor listen to what Jesse Mentor said that stood out to me so let's just see how it goes. Next question came from my guy Ty. He said kicking competition. What's up brother? Got a short one today to drop in. I saw the practice squad signings for Baltimore and one name jumped out at me. We brought in former 49ers kicker Jake Moody on the practice squad. That's huge cuz Luke needs a bit of pressure and if he's doing really bad, we've got another option. Let me know what you think and if that really helps and how you feel about it. Well, yeah. Of course, this video has been centered around Jake Moody and Tyler Loop. Um, and again, Jesse Mentor, let's let's see what you got. You you got our trust. Jesse Mentor has our trust for sure. even with the fact that a lot of us don't really not necessarily don't agree with this move or disagree with this move, but it's what does this move really mean? Does it truly mean that there's competition for Tyler Loop? But again, with Jesse Mentor not making that long-term commitment to Tyler Loop, and I ain't saying, "Hey, Tyler Loop, get fired. He need to be out of here. He needs to go." But with Jesse Mentor saying what he said in the way that he said it to me, it shows me that he's look and he did say it too, like he's looking at what's best for the team. He's looking at what's best for the Baltimore Ravens. So Jesse Mentor has been a man of his word. Everything that he said that he's going to do, everything that he he's spoken about, he's made it happen. So with this kicking competition, I just got to continue to trust him.
