The Prophetic Blueprint: Guidance for Modern Living | Sidi Mohammad Alboni (Part 14)
Watch on YouTubeVideo summary
The video transcript recounts the critical turning points of the Battle of Uhud, beginning with the strategic positioning of the Muslim army between Mount Uhud and the Archer's Hill under the leadership of the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him). Initially, the Muslims held a significant advantage as they successfully repelled the larger Quraysh force led by Abu Sufyan, who had gathered 3,000 men against the believers' 700. The Muslim victory was secured through the disciplined defense of fifty skilled archers stationed on the hill to prevent enemy flanking maneuvers. However, the tide turned when forty of these archers, driven by greed and a desire for spoils, disobeyed the Prophet's command and descended from the hill to seize booty. This breach in the defensive line allowed the disbelievers to encircle the Muslims, leading to chaos and causing many companions to flee back to Medina out of fear, including the tragic rumor that the Prophet had been killed.
The narrative then highlights the profound devotion and selflessness of several martyrs who sacrificed their lives for the cause of Allah. One companion made a sincere supplication before the battle, asking to be granted the opportunity to kill fierce enemies even if it meant suffering severe mutilation, such as having his belly split or ears cut off; he was subsequently found dead with exactly those injuries alongside two slain disbelievers. Another remarkable story involves a man who left his wedding night and wife in a state of ritual impurity to join the battle immediately upon hearing the call, earning the honor of being washed by angels in a golden vessel. A merchant from Medina also rushed back from trade to rejoin the fight after learning the battle was ongoing, declaring that life without the Prophet was not worth living, while another wealthy Ansari merchant fought fiercely until his death, only to be found by a companion who conveyed his final message urging the protection of the Prophet at all costs.
The climax of the story focuses on the intense loyalty displayed by the small group of steadfast companions who remained with the Prophet when he was surrounded and trapped on the mountain slope with only twenty men left. Among them were ten young Ansari fighters led by Yazid, who fought one by one in front of the Prophet until they were all martyred, leaving Yazid alone to continue fighting with the sole intention of protecting the Prophet's life above his own. Flanking the Prophet were two elite archers, including Malik bin Awf, whose accuracy was so praised that the Prophet invoked a sacrifice upon his parents for him. Throughout this perilous situation, the Prophet repeatedly urged them not to expose themselves to harm, and the companions responded with iconic declarations of preferring their own death over any injury coming to him, demonstrating a level of love and connection that transcends ordinary human emotion. The segment concludes by reflecting on these verses from Surah Al-Imran that describe these events, emphasizing the duty of believers today to safeguard the legacy and Sunnah of the Prophet against all forms of attack, just as his companions defended him with their wealth and lives.

Alhamdulillah.
We continue alhamdulillah with our study
of S. And last uh week we started with
the events that took place in the in the
battle of and subhan Allah we learned
how the the Quri people after the the
great loss in the battle of Bedr they
started rallying up people and building
a huge army under the leadership of Abu
Sufyan and Abu Sufyan was able to gather
1,000 men 1,000 strong men um that would
will go out and set out to face uh the
uh I'm sorry 3,000 3,000 men will go out
to face the Muslims which are which
started with 1,000 Muslims. Subhan
Allah. Three times the number of the
believers and they're on their way. Um
um the Muslims setting out from Medina
on their way the we learned about the
hypocrites and
and in his group now retreating and
betraying the Muslims. 300 disbelie 300
hypocrites out of 1,000 Muslims and now
they ended up um being significantly
smaller in number 700 compared to 3,000
subhan Allah and we learned how the
beloved sallallahu alaihi wasallam how
he stationed the Muslims um between the
mount of and the archer's hill that is
more of the like the bottleneck where uh
they would have to face the Muslims in
equal number they cannot really um
circle them and and outnumber them. It
was a genius strategy by the beloved
sallallahu alaihi wasallam. But there is
one very critical component to that
strategy that's the archers that the
beloved sallallahu alaihi wasallam
assigned 50 skilled archers under the
leadership of Sahub and their sole role
their sole responsibility is to remain
there and prevent any kind of maneuver
and to go around the Muslims and go from
behind them which initially succeeded.
Subhan Allah. And we learned about the
the formation of of the army of Abu
Sufuan and the army of Qurish. They were
3,000 in number. And Abu Sufyan, he
assigned the different wings uh to to
different leaders. They assigned the
wing on the left to Abah, the son of
Abujal who was slain, who was killed on
the battle of of Badr and the right wing
to Khaled who was just this young star
raising up from the the the tribe of
Benu were known for just really a lot of
uh fighting skills and fighting
abilities. Um and subhan Allah we
learned about initially
and and alongside
they formed this um group of three that
would go and really take on this
critical mission of taking down the the
the barrier of of the the the
disbelievers. And they went and they
broke into the ranks and they went and
they fought the people of Benu Abdar who
their responsibility was to hold that
that flag until they were able to take
all of them out and the and the flag of
the the disbelievers will fall in the
battlefield and no one would dare to
carry it afterwards. And subhan Allah
then Allah granted the victory to the
Muslims initially with just uh the the
the disbelievers having their morale
crushed and they're not able to really
figure out a strategy against the
Muslims. Every time and his 300 uh men
try to go and maneuver and try to go and
encircle the Muslims they would fail.
they will be get pushed back by the
archers and how the Muslims were really
up to a great victory in the beginning
of the battle just just a matter of just
a few hours the the the the
army just scattered around and they were
just running for their lives even
leaving their women behind who were
there to to tend to the wound and subhan
Allah just running for their lives and
it was really a great victory initially
um until this is what we even recite in
the Quran and recite that verse today
until everything switched when that
there was uh that act by the the great
companions who disobeyed the beloved
sallallahu alaihi wasallam. 40 out of
the 50 archers on that hill. They saw
that the the battle is is uh is is
winning and and the battlefield is
emptying and they really just wanted to
get some of that um um bounty that they
can really change their their life and
change their financial hood. So subhan
Allah they disobeyed the command of the
beloved sallallahu alaihi wasallam who
commanded him to remain on that hill and
they disobeyed
um also their commander say and they
went down and now seizing that
opportunity and they rushed and they
really went on that hill and they killed
the the the 10 who remained steadfast
the 10 archers and say they were the
first martyrs from the Muslim armies
Subhan Allah. Um on on that day just
being on the wad on the on the promise
of of the beloved sallallahu alaihi
wasallam and eventually now with this
happening and putting the the the flag
of the disbelievers over that hill and
announcing that the slogan of the idol
worshippers
exalt hubal and now seeing that now they
will start to rally up the troops and
they're getting their morale back
together and getting their formation
back together. And some of the 300 men
they start to encircle the Muslims. This
is what the beloved sallallahu alaihi
wasallam was concerned about turned to
happen and then that great victory
initially turned into something that is
different. Subhan Allah. It was very
tough for the Muslims now being
encircled and there were chaos and many
of the companions many of the companions
of the greatest of the Sabun they made
the decision to to go back to Medina to
retreat to Medina. Some of them they
made that decision out of fear out of
that chaos that happened and especially
after
was killed and the person that killed
him said I killed Muhammad sallallahu
alaihi wasallam. So they that rumor
start to spread and the chaos happened
and they were feared that the beloved
sallallahu alaihi wasallam was killed.
So some of them escaped to Medina just
out of fear. Some of them escaped, went
to Medina just to fortify within the
city just to follow on the vision on the
dream that the beloved sallallahu alaihi
wasallam had.
And subhan Allah, this is where we
stopped last week. We started to talk
about some of the martyrs, highlights of
some of the the the great great people
who were martyrs on that day. It was a
really tough day for the Muslims. They
they nervate 70 of the great companions
were martyrs martyed on on that day. And
we mentioned some of those stories
being one of the archers, the leaders of
the archers. And then
and
everyone had a really unique story.
Subhan Allah. And today we continue with
the company of the martyrs. We continue
with
Abdah.
Subhan Allah. It was narrated that
before the battle of
he was in in the company of his
companions they were sitting there in a
gathering. It was the night of the
battle and they're just making dua. They
are just making supplication. Everyone
is raising their hands and they are
making their supplication to Allahh to
grant them victory. So one of the men in
that gathering he made the dua. Oh
Allah, I ask you to grant me tomorrow a
man from the disbelievers who is really
fierce in battle and I'll fight him and
he will fight me and I will kill him.
Subhan Allah. And then the one next to
him now they are competing. Subhan
Allah. They competing in in good. So he
wanted to compete and even asked for
more. So he raised his hand and said,
"Oh Allah, I ask you to grant me two of
the disbelievers tomorrow. Two fierce
fighters that I fight them and they
fight me and I kill them." And then it
was the turn of
Subhan Allah. And he made his his hands
and he made the dua. He said, "Oh Allah,
I ask you to grant me tomorrow two men
from the disbelievers. Both are fierce
in battle and I'll fight them and they
will fight me and I'll kill them." Then
oh Allah grant me a third person person
who is really fierce the most of the
fierce of the disbelievers who would
kill me who would split open my belly
cut off my nose and cut off my ear so
that when I will come before you in this
state you will ask me why was this done
to you my servant and I will reply to
you oh Allah it's for your sake or or oh
lord oh Allah and you will say to me you
have spoken the truth. Subhan Allah.
Subhan Allah. Look at at at the way they
were thinking they are even imagining
how they would face Allah subhana tala
and how Allahha will question them and
what kind of response they would have
for Allahhaala.
This was his wish to be slain for the
cause of Allah and to be mutil mutilated
even in the cause of Allahhaala.
And one of the companions was present um
on on that night hearing all the
supplications. He later said and
narrated that during the battle of I had
no concern but to go and see what have
become what would have become of the
supplication of Abdullah.
And he says, "By Allah," he swears and
says, "By Allah, after the end of the
battle, we were we were burying the the
the the the martyrs and I saw him
killed, his belly split open, his nose
cut off, his ear is cut off, and beside
him lay two dead disbelievers." Subhan
Allah. That exact same prayer, Allah
have granted it to him. His subhan Allah
his dua his sincerity made that to
happen and to come true. Subhan Allah.
So this is
this is this is this day this day of it
was really painful again just for the
sheer number of of martyrs but at the
same time martyrdom is good. It's a good
victory. It's it's one of the two great
outcomes. And so we we feel sad. We
mourn the the the losses the big loss
that the that that the their families
had and the Muslims had in in in their
in their martyrdom. But Subhan Allah
they they won. They truly won. Subhan
Allah.
We continue with the next martyr saying
alhamdulillah.
Subhan Allah. Subhah. His story is
amazing. He was on his wedding night,
just returning from his wedding, being
with his spouse, with his newly uh wed
uh wife. And it was the night of his
wedding when the Muslims head out to the
battle of Aud. It was his wedding night,
that same very night that the messenger
sallallahu alaihi wasallam called upon
the companions to march for forth.
Subhan Allah. He he was at home with his
wife when he heard the call.
Oh mount up or Calvary of of Allah. And
his response is he immediately
immediately left his wife. His wife that
someone would would just dream of that
night and live their life to to have
that great night of their their life and
and he immediately left his spouse and
went to join the the beloved sallallahu
alaihi wasallam and the Muslims. He was
even in a state of ritual impurity. he
didn't even spend the time to per to
perform to to to be purify his body. Uh
and subhan Allah he immediately left his
wife in that state and he joined the the
the Muslims and the next day the battle
happening and a man would say that uh
subhan Allah like
he joined that battle and he continued
fighting until he was martyed. And again
after the end of the battle the the the
beloved sallallahu alaihi wasallam and
the companions they were burying the the
martyrs and suhammed sallallahu alaihi
wasallam will look up to the sky and and
he will smile and and say why do I see
alhamdulillah
between heaven and earth washed in a
golden vessel by the angels
subhan allah and and the companions they
didn't really understand the reason so
they went and they asked his wife who
told them that this is what happened and
he left while in he who was in a state
of ritual in impurity and they went back
and narrated this to the beloved
sallallahu alaihi wasallam and he
confirmed that this is actually the
reason why and from that moment on
he was known to be the one the companion
who was washed by the angels subhan
allah subhan allah look maybe at our
state today where if this would happen
to a man in this day and age and the
messenger of Allah saying let's head
out. We we we have a mission to carry
out. Then he might say, well, like yes,
I'll I'll make dua for you or messenger
of Allah,
but I'll join you in a month. I'm I'm
just going on my honeymoon,
battles, expeditions, this and that. I'm
sorry. I'm on BTO. I won't be able to
join. I'll come later on in I'll join
you after my honeymoon. Subhan Allah.
Look at their their state for
Alhamdulillah. He did not even wait for
the next morning to come. Immediately in
that very same night, he he took on to
his mission to to to move forward and
and fight with the believers.
And we learn of another great companion
who was not present in Medina during the
the battle. He was in trade. He's a
merchant. So he was just on business on
trading and outside of Medina. And also
the same thing happened to him on the
battle of Bedr. When the battle of Bedr
happened, he was also away on business.
And when he returned and he learned
about the great victory that the Muslims
had on the day of Bedr, he was deeply
deeply grieved and he was like mourning
that he missed that chance. He missed
that battle. So he said he made the dua
said, "Oh Allah, he grants me another
opportunity to fight alongside the
messenger of Allah sallallahu alaihi
wasallam. He will see what I'm capable
of." But again he's immersion and he how
would he know when would be the time for
the next battle. So he was out when when
the battle of happened. But it happened
that when he returned to Medina it was
still that the battle is still ongoing.
So he went there and he went to Medina
and he found the city to be nearly empty
and he went there and asked where is the
messenger of Allah sallallahu alaihi
wasallam and they told him that he has
gone out to face
and subhan Allah he immediately he went
there and he prepared and rushed towards
just preparing his his his mount and he
rushed to to
now when he is setting out of Medina who
is coming back from Med from that
battlefield it was the Muslims who
returned back and and came uh towards
Medina. Um and Subhan Allah he he saw
them and he asked like where are you
going? And they replied to him the
messenger of Allah has been killed
sallallahu alaihi wasallam. And subhan
Allah look at his response. He told them
like then what will you do with life
after him? Go back and die upon what he
had died for. Subhan Allah. Subhan
Allah. I just want to reflect on that
that state of of immense love that they
had to the beloved sallallahu alaihi
wasallam like life is not worth living
without the beloved sallallahu alaihi
wasallam what would we live for we just
go and die on his path sallallahu alaihi
wasallam and subhan Allah I'm I'm
reflecting also on their states after he
sallallahu alaihi wasallam passed away
after 10 years of after the hijra how
much like the the sorrow and the grief
that that they went through and and we
we will inshallah get to that um to talk
about that event. It was very very very
hard on their hearts and their minds and
how would they even imagine that being
happening. Subhan Allah.
So they he told them that statement and
they all returned and they went back
with him. And subhan Allah
now rallying up all of these Muslims who
went back and they were a cause for the
eventually to to to to saving the the
remaining steadfast with the Muslims and
most importantly saving the beloved
sallallahu alaihi wasallam. as we will
we will talk through the events how they
started very very very few but gradually
the numbers started to grow. So it was
and his contribution to get them all
back to to be with the beloved
sallallahu alaihi wasallam and it was
narrated that once he stepped his foot
in the battlefield he inhaled
he inhaled deeply and said by Allah I
can smell the fragrance of paradise from
from this battlefield of subhan allah
subhan allah that state that they were
living and and he fought and fought and
he fought fiercely until he was martyed
This is
the second to last who was the martyr
that we'll talk about from this noble
group of the martyrs is
sad. He was a merchant uh from the
Ansar. So he is from from originally
from Yreb or from Medina. And despite
his wealth, despite the luxury that a
merchant, a good merchant will live, he
answered the call of the beloved
sallallahu alaihi wasallam. Oh horses of
Allah, ride forth.
And subhan Allah, he knew he might die
as a martyr and leave behind all of that
comfort, but he wanted to give it all
for the sake of Allah. And we will we
see this happens to not just one
companion to to two three four like to
many companions who sacrificed their
wealth and their livelihood and their
lives eventually for just the sake of
Allahh and to give victory to Allahh and
to the religion and to the beloved
sallallahu alaihi wasallam. This is the
best of the people. Subhan Allah. How
dare some people speak about them and
and speak in ill about this greatest of
of the people who walk the face of the
earth. Subhan Allah. So this privileged
merchant merchant, he went out and he
fought and he was martyed in audit
of the idol worshippers when they
scattered and they were running out of
the battlefield. So he went after them
and he advanced until he even went
outside of the battlefield and he was
fighting fiercely and it was there when
when he was hit when he was struck down.
And at the end of the at the end of the
battle, the messenger of Allah
sallallahu alaihi wasallam, he was
looking for him and he couldn't find
him. So he asked for the companions
would would any one of you go and see
what happened to to to Saddamia.
So one of the companions he went there
and he was searching and searching
eventually he went outside of the field
battlefield and he he he saw him there
and he was in his last moments. He's in
his last breath
and he went there and he told him that
the messenger of Allah sent me to look
for you to if you are from the live or
from the dead and he responded and he
said go back to the messenger of Allah
and tell him that I am among the dead
convey my greetings to the messenger of
Allah sallallahu alaihi wasallam and
tell him
may Allah reward you on our behalf with
the best of the rewards. Now I see with
my own eyes that what you have promised
us to be true. Paradise is real and
hellfire is real. Subhan Allah. This is
what was he was seeing. This is like the
vision. Subhan Allah. When someone is
going through transition, Allah will
open visions for for him and and he will
see be beyond of the unseen. He will
inshallah we will see even our state. if
we are inshallah among those who will
will be granted paradise and may Allah
protect us from being those who would
see the hellfire in their last moments.
And he continued and he said go back and
tell my people the you have no excuse if
harm reaches the messenger of Allah
sallallahu alaihi wasallam while anyone
of you still have an eye that blinks.
There's no excuse for anyone of you if
if anyone can still reach him. Subhan
Allah. That that is his final final
statement is rallying up the ansar to
continue to protect the beloved
sallallahu alaihi wasallam to sacrifice
their lives for him sallallahu alaihi
wasallam and this message is also should
be directed to us today in this time and
age the sunnah of the messenger of Allah
sallallahu alaihi wasallam is in our
hands we must safeguard the sunnah with
everything that we have this gathering
to study the s it's not a favor that we
are doing. This is our duty towards the
sunnah of the beloved sallallahu alaihi
wasallam. They defended him and they
with their wealth and with their lives.
And today we must defend his legacy with
all of the knowledge and all of the
strengths that we can. And we must
continue to study the S and live the S
and relive it and and and really make it
an essential part of our life to be able
to respond of those fools of this day
and age who attack the the sunnah and
who attack the the legacy of the beloved
sallallahu alaihi wasallam those newbah
and and this new
and subhah we need to to to play that
role if we can't really be with the
companions and sacrifice of Allah is for
the messenger of Allah. We need to
really hold the guard and protect the
sunnah of the beloved sallallahu alaihi
wasallam.
And now we conclude with our master.
He's the master of the martyrs. Subhan
Allah. the the the story of his
martyrdom is is well known and it was
none but Washi himself who narrates that
story after he accepted and embraced
Islam. Subhan Allah. Washi who was a
slave um and his um female owner was um
hinsba the the wife of Abu Sufy Sufyan
the daughter of of Atba who was killed
on the battle of of Bed and she was
enraged and she just wanted to seek
revenge and subhan Allah he g she gave
him that mission she gave Washi the
mission if you kill Hamza I I will grant
you just your freedom you will just set
free you no longer a slave so he said on
that day I had no concern except to kill
Hamza and earn my freedom. And I kept
watching him looking just for an opening
to strike because no one could really
stand against Hamza. This is Hamza. No
one could really stand against him. It's
just inevitable that whoever will face
him will get defeated.
So he said when I saw him engaging
engaging in battle with someone, I took
my spear and I shook it until I was
satisfied with it. meaning that he's
like just with full confidence he wanted
to carry out on on that ugly mission and
he said I readed my spear and I aimed it
carefully making sure that it will
strike true and then I held it with all
of my strength and it pierced his
stomach the place stomach of
and it's it was like so forceful that it
went through his stomach and it went
back from his back and he tried to stand
but he was overcome and he fell as a
mortar
Allah.
This is just some stories just some
highlights of this great great
companions who sacrifice it all truly
sacrificed us all just to protect the
beloved sallallahu alaihi wasallam and
be on his side. So we should really heed
the the warning and and seek the lesson
and learn and be on his side sallallahu
alaihi wasallam. So now after we went
through some stories of the martyrs what
was the state of the beloved sallallahu
alaihi wasallam himself.
So Quraysh and the army of Quraysh now
returning and now they have surrounded
him sallallahu alaihi wasallam. They
kept on closing in and closing in until
they have pushed him sallallahu alaihi
wasallam towards the slope of of the
mountain the mountain of
and the companions they were disarray in
disarray and they were scattered divided
and most of them fell back to Medina.
Subhan Allah. Subhan Allah. The beloved
sallallahu alaihi wasallam he even say
our brothers have not fulfilled subhan
Allah the role.
Subhan Allah. Some of them as I
mentioned before out of fear. Some of
them just in fulfillment of his vision
sallallahu alaihi wasallam thinking that
he was killed. And then
returning all of them. It was narrated
initially that they started as just a 20
companions remained with him. Sallallahu
alaihi wasallam until then eventually
that number started to gradually
increase due to the wars of Sn.
But until then, imagine that situation.
Live that moment. The the beloved
sallallahu alaihi was sallallahu alaihi
wasallam is now trapped in a confound
area in the mountain. And around him are
only 20 steadfast companions remained.
Subhan Allah. And he's now facing and
they are all facing that huge army who
just filled with hatred and filled with
rage. Subhan Allah.
So that protection group that secret
service that is the best of the
protection groups it was formed on that
moment. It was narrated those group
those companions those 20 companions
they described them like they were like
a storm like you know the storm it's
like like thunder and waves and and and
wind and it will go left and right and
it's just chaotic. It was like a whole
storm just going around the beloved
sallallahu alaihi wasallam and making
sure that no harm reach him sallallahu
alaihi wasallam.
The first 10 from those group half of
that group were a goo group of young
friends from the Ansar their leader or
like the their chief was known of the
name of Sa Yazid
and subhan Allah he went there and he
said defend the messenger of Allah and
one by one they went there and they were
kept on fighting until they were martyed
one by one in front of the beloved
sallallahu alaihi wasallam and they
bought enough time until the the the
remaining of the companions came and
subhan Allah. Subhan Allah. And and they
they describe
Yazid. He was left alone after all of
his friends, all of his group were
martyed. He left alone and he continued
to fight fiercely. So fiercely it seems
that he's not even trying to be killed.
like he would try to strike someone and
go back and go strike someone else and
go back because all of his fear was if
I'm killed I'm the last man standing
between this ugly army of disbelievers
and my beloved who is standing behind
me. So this is his most biggest concern
that my life is before him and I need to
make sure that I remain alive until I
protect him and we get out of that
situation. Subhan Allah.
on the left side and on the right side
under the the shoulders of the beloved
sallallahu alaihi wasallam were two of
the most skilled archers
Malik the uncle of the beloved
sallallahu alaihi wasallam he is related
in blood to the beloved sallallahu
alaihi wasallam and
he was known for his rabbit shooting he
will just fire arrows one after another
in great accuracy and
he would never miss a single shot.
Muhammad sallallahu alaihi wasallam, he
was so impressed with him and his
ability to throw arrows with that really
great accuracy that he even said,
"May my father and my mother be
sacrificed for you." Subhan Allah. The
messenger of Allah sallallahu alaihi
wasallam combined both of his parents
for
in that supplication.
May my father and my mother be
sacrificed for you. What a great honor.
What a great honor for these great
companions and for just to hear that
statement from the beloved sallallahu
alaihi wasallam. And every time the the
prophet sallallahu alaihi wasallam would
lean forward to see what's happening in
the battlefield
would say do not expose yourself a
messenger of Allah. He meant like do not
raise your hand least an arrow will
strike you. And he would repeat not
expose yourself oh messenger of Allah.
My neck is before yours oh messenger of
Allah sallallahu alaihi wasallam this
phrase become one of the iconic
statement in the battle of
this is I'm sorry he's saying basically
I would rather die and not see any harm
come to you oh messenger of Allah subhan
Allah subhanan Allah that kind of
emotion that kind of love that kind of
connection that they had with the
beloved sallallahu alaihi wasallam we
really need to to to think of this and
and make it reality in our life. Why we
are thinking with that kind of cold
emotion with the beloved sallallahu
alaihi wasallam
and subhan Allah, we hear about the
story of of this heroism and we think if
we were with them, would we really say
my neck before yours?
Would would we really be among those who
escaped and and went back to to to
Medina? Very sorry but the mic seems to
have lost battery. Um
we we we are concluding anyway talking
about the the verses from Ali Am that
