The Prophetic Blueprint: Guidance for Modern Living | Sidi Mohammad Alboni (Part 13)
Watch on YouTubeVideo summary
The Battle of Uhud, which took place in the third year after Hijra following the victory at Badr, began with a strategic decision by the Prophet Muhammad to meet the Quraysh army outside Medina despite a dream warning him to fortify the city. Although the Muslim force was significantly outnumbered, starting with around 1,000 fighters before the withdrawal of approximately 300 men led by Abdullah ibn Ubayy, the Prophet positioned his remaining 700 true believers near Mount Uhud to avoid encirclement. A critical tactical element involved placing fifty skilled archers under the command of Abdullah ibn Jahsh on Jabal al-Rumma with strict orders not to move until commanded, a directive that would ultimately be violated when forty of them descended the hill prematurely to collect spoils, allowing the enemy to regain control and surround the Muslims.
The battle initially saw great success for the Muslims as Khalid ibn al-Walid penetrated enemy lines, killing nine flag bearers and causing the Quraysh forces to flee in panic, even exposing their women; however, this momentum was shattered when Satan exploited the desire for booty, leading to the archers' disobedience. During the ensuing chaos, Mus'ab ibn Umayr demonstrated extraordinary bravery by severing his own hand after being struck while holding the Muslim banner, continuing to fight until he was martyred with a spear piercing his stomach, while the Prophet remained steadfast amidst the assault to rally his defenders. The narrative also highlights the profound sacrifice of Abdullah ibn Jahsh, who chose to stay behind to care for his nine sisters rather than fight after losing a lottery against his son, and upon his martyrdom and mutilation by the enemy, Allah revealed that he wished to return to the world to die again in His cause after tasting the sweetness of martyrdom.
Beyond the historical account, the video emphasizes the spiritual state of martyrs, affirming that they are alive with Allah, well-provided for, free from fear or grief, and rejoicing in His bounty. This theme is illustrated through the story of a seventy-year-old Ansar companion who, despite being officially exempt from battle due to his age and physical disability requiring a cane, insisted on fighting alongside the Messenger out of love for entering Paradise. When his sons pleaded with him to stay behind and the Prophet initially advised him to leave alone, the man demonstrated extraordinary sincerity by leaping on one leg to fight until he was martyred, leading the Prophet to declare that this individual was true to Allah and would walk in Paradise with his name, serving as a powerful testament to the depth of faith and devotion required in the struggle.

Alhamdulillah. Alhamdulillah. We
continue with our study of the S of the
beloved sallallahu alaihi wasallam. And
last time, last week when we stopped, we
were um approaching the the the events,
the major events of the battle of
inshallah. And today we will try to go
as much as we can. We might not be able
to finish all of the events. So we'll
try to cover as much as we can. And this
is happening inshallah. Now we are in
the third year after the hijra. And we
saw what happened with the battle of
Pedr. It it was really an immense
calamity for the the the for the people
and um subhan Allah tensions were high
were really really high. And we talked
about how much suffering they had and
they spent the entire year from the
second to the third year after Hijra
with all of that turmoil in Quraysh. And
Abu Sufyan basically being the the lone
survivor of of the biggest leaders in in
in Quray in Mecca. And now he's spending
an entire uh year rallying up the troops
and working um just to um get
more people to join his cause. And
eventually he managed to gather an army
of 3,000 men 3,000 men to just fight the
Muslims and fight the beloved sallallahu
alaihi wasallam.
So meanwhile [sighs]
the beloved sallallahu alaihi wasallam
had the the scouting unit the
reconnaissance unit monitoring the
movements in Arabia. So this is the
names that we should be very familiar
with by now. The the
and and their group they are surveying
the Arabian Peninsula and they are
gathering crucial information about the
the Quraysh and their movements and
they're bringing back the all of that
information to the beloved sallallahu
alaihi wasallam. So they reported that
oh messenger of Allah is preparing for
war. His army is approximately 3,000
really strong men. And the beloved
sallallahu alaihi wasallam he gathered
the companions and he informed informed
them of a vision that he have seen a
dream that he have seen sallallahu
alaihi wasallam and we know his dreams
to be truth sallallahu alaihi wasallam.
So he saw I saw my dream cows being
slaughtered and I saw a breach in the
head of my sword and I saw myself
placing my hand in a strong armor.
Subhan Allah. And the companions they
asked him sallallahu alaihi wasallam
they asked messenger of Allah how did
you how did you inter interpret this
vision? So the beloved sallallahu alaihi
wasallam explained to them that as for
the cows being slaughtered it means that
some of my companions will be killed. As
for the breach in the in the head of my
sword, it means that a man from my
family will be killed. And we know that
later on it turned out to be
and and as if that that my hand entering
a strong armor um I would interpret this
to mean Medina. Medina is being that
strong armor. Subhan Allah. This meant
that the beloved sallallahu alaihi
wasallam had inclined to remain in
Medina and fortify in the city to
fortify within the city against the
enemy and all of these troops that are
coming towards them. However, he as
always sallallahu alaihi wasallam would
consult with the companions. Should we
go out? Should we go and confront them
outside of Medina, meet them on the road
or should we just stay in the city and
fortify oursel in the city and just be
in Medina and protect Medina? And from
the beloved sallallahu alaihi wasallam
as we always uh like hear him always
saying
but the companions were they were really
eager to just go to battle. They were
really eager to fight. Why would that be
the case? Because subhan Allah most of
them they hadn't really participated in
the battle of Bedr. Bedr was not a
general mobilization of troops for the
Muslim. If you remember when we talked
about the about this at that time uh the
number of companions they were Muslims
around like who are capable to bear arms
around a thousand men. Uh but not all of
them went with the beloved sallallahu
alaihi wasallam to to go to bedr. Why is
that the case? Because sallallahu alaihi
wasallam initially he told them that we
are heading out to to to get that to
inter to intercept the caravan and
whoever is ready should join me now and
whoever was ready and had his mount
ready they joined him and they ended up
joining around 313 in total. So now they
returned victorious with that great
victory of the the great battle of Pedr
alhamdulillah and then and but those
companions who didn't really um witness
the that great battle they really uh
gone really felt sorrow and just missing
out of that on that great reward and
that great achievement for the Muslims.
So now they are really burning with
eagerness to just fight. They they they
just wanted to show the beloved
sallallahu alaihi wasallam that they are
capable. They want to stand by him and
they are capable warriors. So as he
always does sallallahu alaihi wasallam
he consulted with them. He's saying
oh advise me oh people.
So the consultation resulted in the
decision that we go out and we fe we
face the enemy outside of Medina. And
the beloved sallallahu alaihi wasallam
agreed with the consultation.
Let's do it. Let's go. So he sallallahu
alaihi wasallam would return to his
chamber and he would ask say
prepare me for battle. And
may Allah be pleased with her, she would
began to dress him sallallahu alaihi
wasallam in his armor, put on his full
battle gear.
Shortly after the companions, they
regretted their decision in a way. They
they felt that they had pressured the
beloved sallallahu alaihi wasallam to
something that he did not really prefer.
He's clear from the interpretation of
his vision of his dream that he his
preference is to stay in Medina and
fortify that they can all fortify them
themselves within Medina. So they went
they sent a delegation to the beloved
sallallahu alaihi wasallam and they s
told him oh messenger of Allah perhaps
we forced you into this decision if you
wish we can remain and fortify ourselves
in Medina. But the beloved sallallahu
alaihi was sallallahu alaihi wasallam
told them a prophet once he has put on
his armor for battle would one never
like won't remove it until Allah has
judged between him and his enemy. Subhan
Allah. That's the resolve the resolve of
Satan Muhammad sallallahu alaihi
wasallam. We are preparing for battle.
We go for battle. And this is a lesson
for us Muslims. We are followers of the
beloved sallallahu alaihi wasallam and
we learn from his guidance. As Muslims,
it's basically whenever we want to make
a critical decision, it's
and then we rely on Allahh. We go with
the with the full means. We have we do
we go and consult with others. We
consult with with everyone around us as
much as we can and then we we have that
prayer of of of asking for Allah
guidance and then we place full trust in
Allah and we just proceed like what
would really his hesitation and second
guessing would be good for.
[sighs] So the beloved sallallahu alaihi
wasallam would set out with the
companions and now the Quraysh army they
camped outside of Medina and the beloved
sallallahu alaihi wasallam went out to
confront them and meet them towards the
north of Medina in an the area of
the way from Medina to the first problem
faced the Muslims
which was this problem it was within
subhan Allah. So as I mentioned the
first uh like the the like they were
like the companions who went or the
Muslims who went out with him sallallahu
alaihi wasallam now they are one 1,000
men fighters going out with him
sallallahu alaihi wasallam but suddenly
Abdullah
this is the head of the hypocrites the
head of the he suddenly on the midway
out he stood out and said this battle
will not end with victory I'm returning
and those who are with me those my group
are going back with me. I want I don't
want to go basically and fight with you
all. Subh at this time he has been
working in in in secret in secrecy just
gathering followers among uh the the
hypocrites. And think of this 300 men
out of the thousand. one almost onethird
of the Muslims
who went out with him sallallahu alaihi
wasallam they were actually faking their
faith and and pretending to be Muslims
and they were hypocrites and they were
practing that practicing that hypocrisy.
So that was the first almost the first
confrontation between the the the
Muslims and the hypocrites and subhan
Allah it was this the battle of of this
was the f the first event where the
hypocrisy start to really show it its
true face and its true nature. So subhan
Allah like they they spend all of the
time before they are praying next to the
Muslims they they are attending the the
jamas and they are attending the the
massages and they are praising the
beloved sallallahu alaihi wasallam. They
are acting as if they are Muslims, but
they they they were never truly
believers. And and the companions never
suspected them. But then Abdullah and
his group just withdraw and heading back
to Medina. One after another, one after
another, they all left. And Allahh, he
revealed, Allah revealed verses in the
Quran reassuring the companions,
companions not to really fear, but
rather see this really as a blessing. It
was truly truly truly a blessing that
the hypocrites decide to betray the
Muslims and and leave them on on on on
the way back. Where is the victory?
Where is the blessing in that? So, let's
reflect on on on the verse.
Subhan Allah. Um when um like when what
would be better like would it be better
just to be a mixed army of 1,000 troops
and they were they were be like in the
midst of the battle and just in the
midst of the the battle they are just
like fleeing or would it be better for
them to flee or or just betray the
Muslims and leave before the battle even
start and now we have 700 purified army
of truly true believers.
Subhan Allah. If if they would have
remained, they would have really
weakened the army. They they would have
spread discord uh within the Muslims in
the midst of the battle in the worst of
the times. So it was truly better for
them to for all of the hypocrites to
just leave before the battle even
started. And now the Muslims, the true
Muslims, the true believers, they know
their enemies. They know their faces.
They know who are these uh people who
are acting against them, claiming to be
Muslims. And this was only the
beginning. This is again the first time,
the first confrontations between the
hypocrites and the and the beloved
sallallahu alaihi wasallam and the
companions. And that was the first major
blow to the Muslims. They are now
reduced to 700 against 3,000. And subhan
Allah, those who put their trust in
Allah, they will always receive his
divine uh assistance and success and
ease will come from Allah and Allah
alone.
So the battlefield and the conditions in
the battlefield turned out to be really
perfectly suited for the Muslims despite
their smaller numbers.
So now we are talking about the 3,000
enemy soldiers against 700 Muslims. But
where would that battle take place? So
it was fought beside the mount of so the
beloved sallallahu alaihi wasallam he
set out and they set their camps next to
that mount. And now I want you to
imagine with me that battlefield. It's
like imagine it like you're seeing it
from above like from Google maps and you
are seeing the view from from uh above.
So the the the mount of of um it's it's
not just one a single peak. It's an
extended range mountain range uh ridges
and um it's like this is on the left
side. This is the left side of mountain
and this is like the mountain mount of
and to the left side of it there's a
small hill which was later known to be
jabalat the the archer's hill. So the
beloved sallallahu alaihi wasallam he
put out the strategy that is really
suited to their numbers that he he was
like he basically the beloved sallallahu
alaihi wasallam his biggest concern his
one concern that if the Qurishi army of
3,000 men 3,000 warriors if they have
managed to completely surrounded the
Muslims and encirculate them attacking
them from front and from the back that
would be really disastrous. So his goal
is to to force Abu Sufyan and his army
for direct confrontation preventing them
from surrounding the Muslims. So we see
that now that he sallallahu alaihi
wasallam he positioned positioned the
army such that the left side of the army
will be stationed to to to jab rumat
this archer's hill um and and the right
side of the army will be alongside the
bases of that mount and he selected this
narrowest passage uh in the in the
pathways where the the companions uh
would really be able to stand there with
their numbers and the and and the the
the the the the Kufar or the Mushik or
the Quran army they will have to face
them number by number they can't really
outnumber them because it's almost it's
a bottleneck and he sallallahu alaihi
wasallam one critical part of the plan
what critical part of the strategy that
would he would reinforce it this plan
with the placement with the positioning
of really skilled archers on that hill
on that jabal or the arial archers hill
and those are really were expert
marksmen they were they were able to
strike from a distance. They they are
able to strike and and hit the target
with high precision and they can shoot
arrows with rapid succession and they
would use spears. They were really
excellent in that in that skill and
sallallahu alaihi wasallam provided them
with sufficient supply of arrows and
spears.
Why is that the case again? Because in
that setting, in that strategy, if Abu
Sufyan would want to line up the army,
they are three times the size of the
Muslims and any attempt to go and
surround the the the Muslims anyway
would go from around them. It will be
stopped by the the archers. So if they
would the Quri forces would try any kind
of maneuver around the Muslims, the
archer will get to strike them and they
they would fail basically fail. And that
narrow passage as I mentioned ensured
that as long as the archer remained
alert and steadfast, no one could
surround the Muslims. And and the
beloved sallallahu alaihi wasallam he
assigned 50 of those skilled archers
under the command of Abdullah.
And they were giving they were given an
explicit and firm instructions. The
sallallahu alaihi wasallam told the
archers if you see us victorious
gathering the spoils do not come down.
And if you see us defeated, even if the
birds are peeking at our bodies, do not
come down until I send you the orders.
Subhan Allah. Subhan Allah. Like no
matter what is the outcome of of that uh
battle, if it's victory or loss, you
stay there and you remain there until
you receive the command.
So now let's look at uh the the the
formation of the the the Quri army. So
Abu Sufyan, the chief commander. Now he
would position his his his troops and he
would put on the right section of the
army under the leadership of Abu Jah. He
is the son of Abujah. Abujal who was
killed in the battle of Badr and um
subhan Allah he would later take on the
the the be one of the commanders of
Mecca. He is now the new leader and uh
but he is really young. He's really
lacked wisdom and he will you will see
subhan Allah his actions in the future
clearly showing his lack of wisdom but
subhan Allah by the will of Allah later
on he embraced Islam and subhan Allah he
become one of the companions subhan
Allah with the will of Allah
so again um on the left side of the the
Quri army uh there was
and this is the first time we mention
this name
who was giving the his first mission,
his first mission in combat and Abu
Safyan said to himself like this is
Benu. Benu are really known to be really
fierce fighters and they are really
known to be known for their really
great skills at war and among them we
have this young star has risen.
So he gave him the command to be in
command of this left section of the army
and subhan Allah he would make his mark.
Unfortunately, he was not yet within
with the Muslims at the time, but he
would surely as we all know, he accepted
Islam later on and he was the one of the
greatest
leaders of of of
the Muslims in in battles. Subhan Allah.
[sighs] So with with Abufan he assigned
300 mites and uh because Khaled he
really loved speed in all of his battle.
If you just study Sierra and his focus
on his his war strategies, they really
teach them. And in warmmies and in in
militarymies, he really liked swiftness.
He really liked agility. He really hated
heavy armor because sometimes just in
the midst of the battle, if he saw that
the strategy was not really working, he
would want to change it in in an
instant. He wanted just to launch
something in a sudden and and do
something different. So he really valued
speed and he really valued
maneuverability.
So those three knights they were on his
on on his command and on that section
and they were like really fast knights
and they were just observing and waiting
to for an opportunity
and now imagine being in in in that
battlefield and imagine now with all of
that formation and the beloved
sallallahu alaihi wasallam now he's also
on the side of the Muslims and raising
the morale of the of the companions and
he would go and tell them he would
sallallahu alaihi wasallam he'd raise
his sword the sword of the beloved
sallallahu alaihi am he'd raise his
sword and display it to the Muslims and
he will say who will fight with this
sword fulfilling its due rights. Subhan
imagine being there and seeing the sword
of the beloved sallallahu alaihi
wasallam. You just immediately raise
your hand and say me me oh beloved me me
oh messenger of Allah. And that's
exactly what happened. All the
companions they start saying we I I'll
take it oh messenger of Allah. Except
for one of the companion he he instead
of just immediately jumping and and
saying I'll take it. I'll take it. He
asked the question and he said well um
you said to fulfill its due right so
what is its due right or messenger of
Allah and the beloved sallallahu alaihi
wasallam responded he said that it's due
right is to really strike the heads of
the pol both boththeists uh with it and
and and that's it due right so he said
I'll take it and I'll fulfill it due
right and subhan Allah the beloved
sallallahu alaihi wasallam handing him
the sword his sword being handed to that
great companion and who That companion
is Abu Djanna.
And then he tied on his red red band.
Now he's turning into really a superhero
with the sword of the beloved sallallahu
alaihi wasallam. He put his red band on
his head and now he is taking the sword
of the beloved sallallahu alaihi
wasallam and he is walking with full
confidence and he's like swaggering
really with the swaggering stride as if
he's telling everyone look at me. Look
at me. I have his sword sallallahu
alaihi wasallam in my hand. And [snorts]
the beloved sallallahu alaihi wasallam
seeing this he pointed at him and he
said this is a walk that Allah despises
except in this situation because this is
a display of pride it's a display of
arrogance and we know how arrogance is
dis disliked by Allahh except when we
are confronting the enemy it was indeed
it was an excellent show of force an
excellent show of courage
so now the battle line lines
um had formed and the combat was about
to just erupt. There was this time there
was no individual challenges, no duels
because the such the the level of
hostility and the resentment that the
Quri people harbored against the
Muslims. So immediately when the the
lines they were fixed the battle began.
Sod
he had a strategy that we must reach the
enemy's uh flag barrier and we kill him
and this is to crash their morale. We
know that the flag is very important at
at their time in war. This is just an
announcement that we are still there. We
are still fighting. So he coordinated
with
that we form a small unit of the three
of us basically just the three of them.
They will just guard each other's back
and just that small group they will just
go in and push and they will just
penetrate the the the enemy ranks
and they're they were targeting
basically Abdar. So this is a clan from
Quray that their sole responsibility is
carrying the banner at wars and in
different events. Subhan Allah. If we
study more about that tribal society,
every tribe has their own basically
honor. Uh some tribes their honor is to
serve the the the the people who come
for some tribes their their honor is
just to to to do this and that and Benu
Abdar their honor was to to hold the
banner and nine men from Benu Abdar they
stood around the flag brothers and
cousins they are just protecting that's
their sole mission their sole goal is to
protect that banner at all cost
so at the start of the battle says
He now he's distinguished by this or
orchestr feather that he he had
and he like rushed through with his
companions
and they started like going in and going
in and he would reach that flag bearer
and he killed the first one causing the
flag of the people to fall and then the
second man that poor man picked it up
and says killed him instantaneously and
he continued And until he swed six of
the the the nine different flag areas
and Ali and
they finish the remaining three the
seventh the eighth and the nine men and
now the the banner the enemy banner lays
on the ground. No one dared to to really
come and pick it up they know whoever
will pick it up they will immediately be
targeted and they will be immediately be
struck down. So it was within few hours
that victory seemed imminent and subhan
Allah if we look at this
we find there were 60 verses in the
surah dedicated just for the battle of
so the first verse began begins
or remember oh Muhammad sallallahu
alaihi wasallam when you set out from
your home early in the morning to
position the believers for battle and
Allah will continue as the battle
unfolds. Allah will say,
subhan Allah. Indeed, Allah fulfilled
his promise to you. And when initially
initially you were swept them away by
his will, then your courage weakened and
you disputed about the the command and
you disobeyed after Allah brought
victory within your reach.
So what happened? [sighs] What was this
kind of where did they disobey the
command? So in the beginning of the
battle
he actually attempted to execute that
maneuver. He attempted even not a single
time, a few times he attempted to go and
just go behind the Muslims and go and
try to surround the Muslims, but every
single attempt was blocked
and the the the the ranks of the the the
Qurayshi people seeing the their flag is
now on the on the on the on the
battlefield and they are really being
fought fiercely by the the Muslims, they
started just to to just lose confidence
in their ability to continue. So they
started their pranks start to break and
they started to flee and subhan Allah
they even start to flee so much so that
their women were exposed. Subhan Allah
the the Qur women have came with them to
the to the battlefield first and
foremost to help to aid to the wound.
But most importantly they also wanted to
see their revenge. They wanted to have
their own revenge and see the revenge in
their own eyes. But now the Quran men
they were fleeing. And when a man sees
the death before him, he would really
run without even looking back, not even
checking on his own family. Subhan
Allah. So especially when he is not
having that belief and in belief system
that supports him. So that battlefield
with all of the theat army now escaping
and leaving now is littered with just
abandoned weapons and shield and armor.
And and it was the norm that in battle
if a Muslim would kill an enemy and
there are witnesses that have seen that
this sahabi or this companion killed so
and so he will collect uh the the spoils
from from that uh from like all of the
the the arms and all of the equipments
of as a personal personal spoils. So
that meant just to in incentivize the
the fighters. But at that moment, think
of the 50 archers, those who were
stationed on that hill, they are seeing
the battlefield basically emptying. A
lot of the people either killed or
retreating. And the Muslims now are
collecting the spoils. While the the the
that opportunity is happening, the
shaitan Satan came into the picture as
may Allah curse him always seek an
opportunity. So he started whispering to
them and I want you to remember these
were great companions. They were the the
the earliest of of the Muslims, the
earliest of the believers. They were
these companions were just mere human.
They lived a world of trials and subhan
Allah many of them they were really poor
like think of this they were like so
poor they had even just barely enough to
eat just a few set of armors would have
really changed their life completely
upside down.
So the archers on that seeing this they
started little by little to go and seek
permission
seek permission from them from their
commander that oh abdah the battle is
over we let us just go and and collect
some of those bounty and um he he said I
will not descend. The messenger of Allah
commanded us to remain and stay
steadfast here. After a short while
[clears throat] they just returned and
they kept persuading him again and again
until they eventually disobeyed his
command. They disobeyed the command of
the beloved sallallahu alaihi wasallam
first and foremost and they disobeyed
the command of their immediate
commander. 40 out of 50 of those archers
descended leaving only 10 steadfast
alongside Abdah on the mount of on the
mount of jabat.
So, Khaled now seeing the 40 archers had
descended. Uh, [snorts] and now he took
he takes his 300 group and they in very
quick
they just run and they stormed that
mount faster than lighting and they
killed the the the archers there and
the archers with him. They were among
the first martyrs of the battle of
Allah. Those who remained steadfast and
they listened to the command of the
beloved sallallahu alaihi wasallam. So
now Khalid he sees control over the the
hill and now the the left section of the
Muslim army is exposed.
And imagine imagine that situation.
Imagine that you are thinking that your
back is protected, your back is secured
and you suddenly look on your left and
you will see Khaled Wid alongside him
300 really strong men knights and Khaled
just started signaling to Abu Sufyan
announcing his position. So he's began
shouting the slogan of Quraysh
and he's commanding all of the people
with him to just shout that that slogan
exalt Hubal exalt hub. This is the
slogan of the idol worshippers. The
hubal was the greatest idol in in Mecca
and and that's their their slogan
meaning that we are there we are there.
We are still there. We are fighting. We
are winning. So Abu Sufyan now and the
fleeing began to really regain their
confidence. their forces now are on top
of that hill and their banner is in in
Khaled's hand and now the the he will
plant it on the on jabat on the on the
archer's hill and that morale restored
for foresh so those who were fleeing
they started to return and they started
actually what the beloved sallallahu
alaihi wasallam fear would happen did
actually end up happening so that the
300 knights they will start to come from
the hill and the and and the Muslims
start to be um circled within the Qur
army which was previously failed but now
succeeded.
It's just an instant the tide of the
battle turned. The Muslims had been on
the verge of victory but it's in just a
moment by just disobeying the command of
the beloved sallallahu alaihi wasallam
victory will turn into defeat. Subhan
Allah. Look at the Quranic verse. Look
at Allahh warning us about this.
So let those be beware who descend from
his command these tribulations strike
them or a painful punishment. Subhan
Allah. This is a warning for all of us.
For all of us Muslims, if we disobey the
command of Allah subhanaa tala, if we
disobey the command of his beloved
sallallahu alaihi wasallam, this is what
we will face. We will face either
tribulations or we will face punishment
and we see the state of the Muslims
today. Subhan Allah. Unfortunately,
so now exalt Halu Hubal being shouted
from the left the the Quri people they
are attacking from the front and the
attack is happening from the the behind
and the companions they really fell into
a state of panic. The beloved sallallahu
alaihi wasallam was under really an
intense assault and the enemy as if they
were really impressed by the strategy of
Snamza they tried to implement that same
exact strategy against the Muslims. So
everyone from them they rushed towards
the Muslim flag barrier. And who was
holding the the the the the Muslim
banner at that time? It was it was held
by the non but the the noble companion.
Subhan Allah.
This young man, this young great elite
companion who had once had everything
that the world could could offer, but he
sacrificed it all just for the sake of
Allahh. and he migrated and we talk
about his migration and he was the first
ambassador in Islam. Subhan Allah. And
he was the one who spread faith in all
of Medina. Now all of that hard work all
of it would b for
subhan Allah like no more struggles.
This is the highest level of paradise is
awaits him.
So the the the the the the
Kureshi people they started attacking
him and one of the the that army he's
not from himself he was from a tribe
that is allied with Quraysh in the name
of Abdullah
so Abdah he approached
and he's so coward that he's now would
not even try to face him face to face he
would just seek an opportunity and he
would find one spot where he would just
cowardly go and he would strike
Musab on his right hand that is holding
the banner and the banner and he would
just lose
he would lose like cut off his entire
hand and that banner would fall. Subhan
Allah. But Sa he did not even flinch. He
would immediately grabbed the the banner
with his left hand. This is very similar
to what happened with Jaffar. Subhan
Allah. In the battle of Ma as we will
see inshallah for them the the the
Islamic banner it was more precious than
their own blood like blood was pouring
from his wound and the the banner is so
precious that he would not even flinch a
second. He will just immediately grab
the banner and and and carry it forward.
And subhan Allah subhan Allah reflect on
this and look at our state today. If we
are just praying in jama and maybe just
a bee flying by like what would happen
to the worshippers who are just standing
in line in their prayers we you would
see the panic that would happen there.
There's like if there's just one ant
that is crawling on the prayer mat like
people maybe turning their heads or
maybe just tracing that ant with their
eyes. Subhan Allah. For he lost his
entire hand. and his entire hand is
severed and now he's holding the banner
with his left hand and he like this
person he would go and even he strike
his left hand and say would embrace the
the the the banner the Islamic banner
with with whatever remained and would
just like trying just to hug it and and
keep it hug himself wrapping himself
around that banner until he eventually
will strike him from his stomach so
fiercefully that it pierced through his
his attack and fell as a martyr.
Subhan,
he was really an icon for the
companions. Like, do you know what that
even means? Like, he was a symbol of a
man who gave up literally everything for
the sake of Allahh. He never lived to
see the victories of Islam. He never
lived to to to to see the Muslims and
their conquest and the prosperity that
would come much later. He never seen any
of that and he sacrificed he had really
came from extreme wealthy background. He
could have lived a life of luxury that
he got would get anything that he would
desire. He would get get married to the
most beautiful of the women. He would
enjoy the finest of the comforts but he
gave it all for Allah subhana tala and
he just wanted to be there next to the
beloved sallallahu alaihi wasallam. And
now it's the time for the battle of of
of where now he is he is being martyed.
Subhan Allah. And S Muhammad sallallahu
alaihi wasallam
subhan Allah would would search after
the battle and he will seem and and he
will try they are just working to to
bury the the the the martyrs and subhan
Allah
they will try just to to shroud him. He
he they did not even have a single
shroud that will will cover all of his
body. He had nothing. This once
privileged son of wealth now own
nothing. Not even a full length of cloth
for burial. So they would try to cover
his head. His feet will will be exposed.
They will cover his feet. His heads head
was exposed. So the beloved sallallahu
alaihi wasallam covered his head with
the cloth and placed leaves on on his
leaves before burying him. This is
and after after the the conquest of Sham
and say
now sometimes would gather the
companions and they would say to them do
not be deceived by the comfort and the
luxuries that we see now before us. We
are merely people whose rewards have
been hence for us in this world. By
Allah I have
on the day of had nothing but a single
cloth. If he cover his head his feet
will were exposed. If he cover his feet
his head will was exposed. Subhan Allah.
This is
who was killed by
and again he was not from and he even
had the resemblance of the beloved
sallallahu alaihi wasallam. So Abdah he
thought that he have killed the beloved
sallallahu alaihi wasallam. So he
started like shouting with all of his
voice just to spread even more confusion
among the Muslims. I've killed Muhammad.
I have killed Muhammad sallallahu alaihi
wasallam. So now imagine yourself in
that moment in that battlefield again.
There's exalt Hubal from the side and
then shortly after the attack is
happening and they are surrounded and
someone is suddenly shouting I have
killed Muhammad and chaos just broke
broke out. Some of the companions they
fled towards Medina. [clears throat]
Some of them ran out of fear. Other
remember the dream and the vision of the
beloved sallallahu alaihi wasallam where
he said
I have put my arm in in in a strong
armor. So saying let us retreat to to
protect the city. Let's retreat to
protect Medina and not lose it. And some
of them they retreated out of fear and
now the number of the defenders of the
beloved sallallahu alaihi wasallam was
dwelling and he was still alive and
subhan Allah no one sensed distress or
despair from him sallallahu alaihi
wasallam. Instead he did something
remarkable. He began announcing his
location. Subhan Allah. Look at this
ultimate courage. He is now in the midst
of the the the battle and he is only
surrounded by just few companions who
were left. They would say only around 20
of the companions left with him out of
700. Imagine this. And he now he's
announcing his location and he is
announcing his position sallallahu
alaihi wasallam saying
I am the prophet. No lie I am the son of
Abdutib.
Subhan Allah. Subh look at that Calvary.
Look at that bravery. Look at that
courage of him sallallahu alaihi
wasallam.
But that call that call really made all
of the troop troops around him. They
were really like turning this into
really a the biggest defense that the
Muslims could could ever have held.
And we'll talk about the subhan allah
the the the martyrs of of uh before we
talk about the events that took place
and how that that battle ended we need
to really im memorialize these names and
we need to know these names and know the
sas of these people. These were the the
greatest of the companions. Some of
these names are not very uh famous but
these are these are the earliest
Muslims. They have so they have done so
much for us now to be living in this
country practicing our faith in in
freedom. So we need to know their names
and we need to recognize their
contributions and their sacrifices. So
we'll try to mention maybe around 7 to 8
maybe today we'll just mention a couple
and inshallah we'll continue mentioning
more uh next week inshallah.
And even the battle of it's even
mentioned in the terms of the martyrs.
There were 70 of the companions that
were martyed on on that day. And subhan
Allah we'll start with the mentioning
first. We talked about we mentioned
abdah
who was on the hill leading the archers
and now we talk about
oram haram or haram depending on on the
narrations.
So sa his full named
he was the father of a very well-known
companion. He he is the father of abdah.
So when we recite the hadith of the
beloved sallallahu alaihi wasallam and
we often hear many hadith many authentic
hadith narrated by and we say may Allah
be pleased with both of them that's in
reference to jabir and in reference to
his father Abdah both of them were from
the early and and and great Muslims. So
what is his story? What is the story of
Abdullah?
So
before the battle both the father and
the the son two men from the Ansar they
were preparing for for battle. They're
preparing to go and fight with the
beloved sallallahu alaihi wasallam and
the mother has passed away and it's the
like she left behind her the father the
son and nine other daughters nine other
sisters for say nabir so would it be
reasonable for both of them both of the
men just to leave for battle leaving all
of the nine daughters alone behind that
that won't be reasonable so someone
would had to stay behind and sabir he
was pleading with his father saying oh
my father please I want to fight
alongside the messenger of Allah
sallallahu alaihi wasallam please let me
take your place [clears throat] but his
father replied no my son let's draw for
it subhan Allah subhan allah so they
just decided to draw lots and the lot
fell in the favor of the father and
saber he began just to weave and and
tell his father and telling him like
please let me just take your place and
his father reassuring him my son By
Allah, were it not for paradise, I would
not have let let you I would have let
you go instead. But I cannot. It's
paradise.
Subhan Allah. Subhan Allah. This is a
very important lesson that we need to
take from S. Never favor anyone over the
mercy of Allah. If Allah grants you his
mercy, subhana tala, do not say no, let
me give it to someone else. Subhan
Allah. Sometimes you witness this very
often like if you see the worshippers
they are standing in the first row for
prayer and the imam have not said a lock
but have not basically commenced the
prayer and someone with a well a
well-known figure they would arrive and
then one of those people who are
standing in the first line will just say
please hi please uncle please come and
take my place I'll just move back this
is not really proper adab with Allah
subhana ta is as if that person is
saying to Allah Well, I know that u like
you are giving me that mercy, but I'm
not in need of of your mercy. I'm going
to give it to somewhere else who may be
in more need of it. Allahh would say if
if they knew what's in in the first
line, they would draw lots for it. This
is the first straw in in in the prayer
is a mercy from Allah. If grants you
that mercy, don't give it to someone
else. This is just we need to show that
proper adup to Allah subhana tala and
and and just hold to to to as much to
his mercy as as we can subhana tala.
So
he refused to let his son take his place
because the the lot was done and it was
fell in his his uh favor. So Jabar he
basically stayed behind with his sisters
and his father Abdullah he went forth
and he was martyed in the battle of in
the battle of Ahad. And after Subhan
Allah after the battle they came to
identify the martyrs but his body was so
disfigured that they could barely
recognize him. Subhan Allah. Subhan
Allah. Look at the the the hatred and
how much hatred as an emotion really
drives the ugliest out of people.
Because of all of that hatred, it was
not enough for them to kill them the the
martyrs. They went even to go and
militate the corpses, the milit the
bodies, the placed bodies of these
martyrs, the martyed companions. So the
beloved sallallahu alaihi wasallam
seeing the body of Abdullah he said to
the companions if Jabar comes from
Medina to bid farewell to his father do
not let him see see him instead send him
my way. So when Jabar he was looking for
the body of his father and he went they
would not let him in and he went to
complain to the to to the messenger of
Allah and he said oh messenger of Allah
I just want to go and see my father. So
Muhammad sallallahu alaihi wasallam
would take the hand of Sabrdah and he
would go with him and walk with him to
see his dad and Snabir stood before his
father's mutilated body and gaze upon
this heartbreaking sight and he just
pulled his like sleeve and over his face
and he started weeping and the beloved
sallallahu alaihi wasallam would comfort
him and saying oh my son weep weep for
him or do not weep but know that the
angels continue to shade him with their
wings and subhan Allah Then he gives him
the greatest of the news. He tell him,
"Oh rejoice, rejoice, oh jabir." And he
asked in what, "O messenger of Allah."
He's just seeing his father being
mutilated and and killed. And now he's
saying rejoice. And he's asking the
messenger of Allah sallallahu alaihi
wasallam why would I rejoice? And and
the response from the prophet sallall
alaihi wasallam is just amazing that
revelation that he got that he would
tell him that Allah he did Allahh did
not speak to anyone except from behind a
veil except for your father. Oh J Allah
spoke to him directly without a barrier.
Subhan Allah he he talked to you to to
your father without a barrier. And then
Allah said to him, "My servant, wish for
something."
And Abdullah replied, "Oh Lord, I wish
to return to the world so that I may die
again in your cause, for I have found
the sweetness of martyrdom." Subhan
Allah. Subhan Allah. Imagine this.
Imagine seeing paradise and seeing the
the the the greatest of the blessing and
the gifts that someone would get in in
Jenna in in paradise. And what is his
wish? that when Allah is asking him for
his wish, he is wishing just for the
taste of that martyrdom once more.
Subhan Allah. Allahh would saydah
my decree has been set. They shall not
return to this world. So Abdah made
another request. He said, "Oh Lord, then
let my people on earth know of my
happiness." And thus Allah revealed this
verse.
Never think of those martyed in the
cause of Allah as dead. In fact, they
are alive with their Lord, well provided
for, rejoice in Allah's bounty and being
delighted for those yet to join them.
There will be no fear for them, nor they
will grief. Subhan Allah. Subhan Allah.
This is this is the the the ayah. This
is what was revealed for for for um and
this is the re revelation about
and all of the martyrs that would follow
on his path.
The second companion, the great
companion that will mention his story
and we'll briefly try to end inshallah
before Aisha prayer is announced.
Subhan Allah.
He was 70 years old. He was really an an
an an old man and he was one from from
the Ansar and he was even exempt from
from battle. He was even exempt from
fighting not only because of his age but
he was basically araj he would walk with
a cane. So his sons were young and they
were capable and they told him father we
will suffice you in battle. Please let
us just go and you stay behind. But he
insisted no I want to go and I want to
be with the messenger of Allah
sallallahu alaihi wasallam and I want to
fight alongside the messenger of Allah
sallallahu alaihi wasallam. So they
pleaded again and again father please we
suffice you in battle and he insisted.
So they just went and and and he went
even and complained to the beloved
sallallahu alaihi wasallam about his
sons and the beloved sallallahu alaihi
wasallam telling him oh I'm but you are
like this is your condition you are
exempt basically you don't have to go to
battle he said so so what oh messenger
of Allah I surely love to enter paradise
with this very limb of mine subhan Allah
and when the beloved sallallahu alaihi
wasallam sees his sincerity he says
leave him perhaps Allah will grant him
martyrdom
And subh the side of
it's just was astonishing. He was
leaping on one leg. He was not even like
walking with his limb. He was even
jumping on one leg just with that kind
of
futura with that kind of at even 70
years of age fighting and want to give
victory and just fighting for the cause
of Allah until he was killed until he
was moder. And the messenger of Allah
sallallahu alaihi wasallam he looked at
the sky and said he was true with Allah
and Allah was true with him. I now see
walking in paradise with his name.
So inshallah we'll end here and we'll
continue inshallah next week with more
of the stories of of the the martyrs of
the battle of
Muhammad
