Okay, so let's talk a little bit about
munitions. We talked about it already,
but it just this point I I I read this
story and it makes complete sense. You
know, Zelensky came to Trump and said,
"Hey,
let me build
Patriot missiles. Let's build a plant in
Ukraine. We'll build Patriot missiles.
You don't have the United States doesn't
have enough production capabilities
right now to build enough Patriots for
Ukraine, for Israel, for for for for his
allies in the Middle East, for
US usage vis-à-vis China. So so Zelensky
said, "Let let Ukraine do it." And and
Trump, for the first time this year,
earlier this year, indicated, "Yeah,
okay. I'll I'll give you a license to do
it."
Now, it turns out
that Lockheed and Raytheon are the ones
resisting
giving the license. Lockheed and
Raytheon are the companies that build
um
uh the Patriot missiles.
And it's not
because they're worried about IP. So the
original objection was supposed to be
"Oh, the Ukrainians will steal our IP."
Or the Russians will gain access and
they'll steal the IP. But it turns out
that's not
what they're worried about. What are
they worried about? They're worried that
the Ukrainians
will do a good job manufacturing
Patriots.
That they'll produce them faster and
cheaper than Lockheed and Raytheon can.
Maybe even that they'll improve the
Patriot,
right? And produce them at scale
and for a lot less money.
So it's it's our defense contractors who
have been for decades,
you know, kind of shielded from
competition
and shielded from innovation, from the
need to innovate, the need to produce
more, the need to drive down costs by a
Pentagon.
Now, so a Pentagon official says that
you know, the two defense contractors
would quote officially frame their
concerns around IP theft and tech
transfer.
But they quote their real worry is that
Ukrainians will find a way to improve
the Patriot and then produce them at
scale faster and for much less money
than what the existing production lines
in the US could do.
Which would threaten manufacturing in
the United States.
If that is true,
that is so damn pathetic.
So pathetic.
And
you know, I I I
I am rooting for all these Silicon
Valley defense startups
to replace these the Raytheons of the
world and the Lockheeds of the
the Lockheeds of the world
with with entrepreneurs who will build
and
be able to scale and be able to improve
quality and be able to do it all
cheaply.
Okay, just one more thing about weapons
systems.
It turns out that
you know, the the UK has these navy
drones, naval drones
that are used by special forces, UK
special forces. So these are boats
that drones and and it turns out that
the cameras on these drones
were
um
made in China.
And it turns out they've discovered
that the um
that the these cameras were actually
sending data
to an internet address in China.
So um
you know, the signal came from a
component in the camera.
Now it turns out they didn't broadcast
any sensitive information supposedly.
And the issue was discovered in a
routine cyber vulnerability assessment.
And now there's been a thorough
investigation.
And
uh yeah, guess what? They're going to
replace all the cameras.
So one of the things you have to be
careful of when you're building anything
with national security implications
is it doesn't have any components
uh from made in China that can transmit
data
or that can receive a transmission of
data.
Shut it up.
So uh
yeah, I found that
kind of kind of funny.
