The Touchline show opens with a focus on the return of the English Premier League, highlighting Arsenal's strong start as defending champions. The Gunners secured a convincing 3-0 victory against Coventry City in the Community Shield, with key contributions from Bukayo Saka, Kai Havertz, and Martin Ødegaard. This performance sets a positive tone for their title defense, though the hosts note that the season is just beginning and many games remain to be played. Meanwhile, Manchester United faces an early challenge against AFC Bournemouth, currently trailing 1-0 in their match, raising questions about their defensive stability and ability to adapt to a new season under Erik ten Hag. The discussion also turns to Chelsea's ambitions as they prepare for the Champions League campaign, with Enzo Fernández joining from Benfica adding depth to the squad. The hosts debate whether Chelsea can achieve a domestic treble like Arsenal did in the past, noting that while their defense has improved significantly, the intensity of European competition may impact their league performance. Tottenham Hotspur is another team under scrutiny after signing several high-profile players, including Dominik Szoboszlai and Yves Bissouma, with fans optimistic about their midfield strength despite structural challenges that could affect their survival in the top flight. Looking ahead to upcoming fixtures, the show offers predictions for matches involving Ipswich Town, Nottingham Forest, Leeds United, Brentford, and Aston Villa, with particular attention paid to Liverpool's return after player absences and Newcastle United's squad limitations compared to last season. The hosts also speculate on individual awards, predicting that Pedro will win the Golden Boot while Sánchez earns the Golden Glove, reflecting confidence in both his goal-scoring prowess and defensive capabilities. As the week progresses, the program promises continued coverage of these developments, inviting viewers to tune in next weekend for further analysis and match previews.

Yes, and welcome to the touchline show. I mean the final segment of the touchline so show right here on Y254. And of course we here to talk matters European football. And when I say European football excited because the English Premier League is finally back and yesterday the defending champions Arsenal started their you know title defense with a bang of course winning against Coventry City two three goals to nil. Of course, Bukayo Saka, Kai Havtz, and Martin Odigard all on the score sheet to ensure that Arsenal get the three points. And of course, that particular league is set to continue the today and tomorrow. And as we speak, uh the 20 2013 2014, is it 2012 2013 champions Manchester United? I mean that is 15 years ago. They're playing against Al City at the moment and the match is still goal goalless. I mean nil nil. they haven't scored against a promoted side. So, welcome to the final segment and of course and Wendy Shabikali Bran Shabik the defending champions Arsenal and then we have Manchester United. I mean, how does it feel and then of course Chelsea at least Chelsea they can even see have a glimpse of that trophy and of course Chelsea >> stadium to shakon for Champions League. We will discuss that later on. But uh to kickstart everything, Wendy Arsenal against Coventry City yesterday quite a performance from the defending champions. And as an Arsenal supporter, do you feel that you can go all the way? >> I mean, what are we doing? We are defending the We are defending champions. >> Yes. >> So 31 out of 38. 37 to go. >> The the goal is the goal is to win. >> 37 to 37 37 of them 30 then we draw seven we want to go unbeaten this season if you see the kind of squad we have right now ah >> all right >> perfect one >> brand Janna Z you know khavs quite a statement from Martin I mean what worked for us against coventry of course they are promoted it's a promoted side but you know Frank Lampard is quite experienced >> there's a specific start So yesterday >> not even about Lampard it is about Saka >> and Hav played together twice >> since 2024. >> So these three guys fitness there's chemistry that happens we saw it yesterday. So I think you're going to see the best of the best of >> you have arrested you have arrested you have arrested and then the Alexis Sanchez 2.0. >> Yes. >> Yeah. Yeah. So >> the perfect signing, >> amazing sins, I know you are a Manchester United supporter, but h put that one aside and talk about Arsenal against Coventry. What do you think worked for them yesterday against Coventry City? And >> did they give you the goosebumps and I mean believe that they can defend their title. >> Arsenal did great yesterday. They're still trying to push it towards the season. Then if you look at their transfers, that left wing guy, >> that one he's really a good good talent with a good future and uh I'm proud of Arsenal for one thing. >> Yeah, >> they are trying to keep the momentum on >> defense mid attack like they're trying to like We are champions there is Carabel Cup and everything. So they're doing a good job where they are now. >> Yeah, two season one from scratch >> all the way up. and the rest like he has been given the real time. >> Yeah. >> For a coach to work on his his team and it's working. >> Yeah. >> James, you're looking at Arsenal. Of course, they started with a bank. They of course won the community shield by beating Manchester City three goals to nil. That was last weekend. And then yesterday two goals to three goals to nil against Coventry City. I mean, have they convinced you? >> Yeah, Arsenal are looking really strong to be honest. Let's call us a spade cuz even looking at the goals that you have scored know you usually you're usually labelled we normally label you as the corner FC but out of the six goals that you have scored is six of them open play and also the guard is playing like a crazy guy I think that's another thing to look about but you know um we cannot really judge the season yet cuz they're only the first the first game come on we have played against Coventry other games are coming yes you did good against city but uh you know that is Not Pep City. So you can Let's wait on Monday. >> When did Pep left? >> Let's wait. Let's wait. Manchester United is playing right now. Yeah, they are not doing well. >> But other teams will come. Chelsea is there. Liverpool is there. Remember Liverpool their players are back. Yeah, they lost Salah but they are aiming to get even mint. >> Yeah, M when he's he'll come to that team of course be another good signing for Liverpool. But for for us and I think yeah we very ready for the for the for the to go to defend the title cuz even Zo is I mean the guys is dribbling he's doing everything he's even crossing the ball so he's a good signing I think he'll be even he can end up being the the signing of the season. >> All right Bran uh I mean we want to talk about the squad depth that is in Arsenal at the moment. They were missing key players in the names of William Saliba, Julian Timber and then of course their new signing Brunoare. He said to miss maybe for two to three weeks fit to play. But again even yesterday we never saw Victor Yarez the squad is kind of you know well put aside I mean will it be important will this that squad depth be important for Arsenal to ensure that maybe they don't win not only the league? I think Mike understood this assignment some three years ago. There's a time when Arsenal had a very fantastic 11 but I remember sign for the sake of signing. >> Yeah, >> they are signing. Area knows the positions where he needs improving. That's all he knows. So, he's not going for hype. He's not going for attention. If you're looking what you're seeing, for example, right now in the market, Mhm. They're in the market to get specific players who can help them. Cuz if you look at the game yesterday, the bench actually looks very dangerous. [laughter] >> The same thing Real Madrid said last season. So, so I mean I mean I mean [laughter] >> I want us to talk about what Manchester United is doing at the moment because Manchester United are playing HAL City away and uh it it is still goalless. I mean they haven't scored. Uh Collins >> tell us about United and this season where do you see yourself finishing? >> Uh >> start off with what you seeing currently like against Al City. >> Uh it's a new season. It's a new belief, new everything. The boys are trying to >> Yes. Yes. >> come back strong from last season where we left >> we finished third and I think so what's what's happening right now this season will determine United was we were >> and of course let me shock you city have scored. >> I'm not surprised. La [laughter] >> I'm wondering why why is HE HUMBLE LIKE THIS? >> Let him be. Let him be [laughter] the give me 90. >> Give me 90. Okay. [laughter] Okay. Continue. Continue. So like they're trying to build in a squad. [clears throat] >> Yeah. Premier League literally they want to say we are buying so that's what are doing right now bringing inse you want to build a team where see it's not about the name of course >> it's a big theme and everything but name doesn't matter. >> Okay. So, what what is going to say? Okay. I mean, talk talk to us about Manchester United, what they doing at the [laughter] moment. as a Chelsea supporter >> are you satisfied with what your team has done in regards to the people when you are MTO and you'll be playing against Fulham on Monday I mean what should we expect of Chelsea this season >> uh let me let me start with Manchester United I think the the one of the weak points that Manchester United and Carrick is not seen defense remember Lisandro Martinez after the injury that he had the the injury he has never been the same then he was also saw in the world cup yeah he got a minor injury but an injury is still an injury So it might cost the defense also the the likes of Maguire remember Manchester United is going to play in the Champions League. So there's that also. So they only have one strong one squad looking at even Arsenal comparing to Arsenal what you have the bench is stronger your bench can beat Manchester United. So that's the difference. So if they are going with this only with this one squad to to play in the Champions League in the domestic cups as well even in the in the in the league they'll suffer. that you know last season if you remember when um Oleuna came in he came in the same situation that K came in and he he managed to get even Manchester United to the top four but the the upcoming season remember they finished number eight do you remember that so yeah you never know so this season Manchester United need to take care but coming back to my team I think I think yeah I think um one of the disappointing thing I saw during the during the preseason the the the preseason games was Tottenham and also the game against Juventus But that was not much to judge Shab Alonso cuz he was given a lot of opportunities to to the to all the players. So I just want to see what we can do this season. Yeah, we we brought in well back we brought in Anderson. People will be talking about that. Yeah, you keep laughing but that we are coming. So we show you again Fulham on Monday cuz I think now we we are going to play Monday every every week will be the Manchester Manchester United of last season but >> yeah Monday Monday night. man, which is very disappointing to the fans a lot, but um we'll we'll get used to it. But I I just want I'm just that curious like um like a baby who's waiting to see what the father will bring to the to to to to the home. So I just want to see what Shab Alonso would do. So with some of his talent, [clears throat and laughter] I went to Manchester. I remember last season when the season was almost ending, we said Manchester United need to sign more >> key players. Yeah. >> Such players really >> I mean they about to sign >> I mean not >> yeah but the defense really >> we want to see how are they performing like right now the the game that you [laughter] are playing just now >> uh the start uh shots >> evidence >> city [laughter] four Manchester United three shots on target three for city Manchester United two possession >> but anyways you Anyways, anyways, Bri, I wanted to ask you about Tottenham because they finished 17th last season. They've brought in quite some good players in the names of um Tonali Sabinho coming on from Manchester City. I mean, >> have they convinced you? Where do you see them finishing? >> Well, I'm a Arsenal fan. >> Yeah, >> first of all, and I think you know my instance when it comes to >> What do you think of >> So, what do you call what do you think of Tottenham? What do you think of? >> Thank you. [laughter] >> So, uh, the signings are amazing. I think they have had, let me say, they've been the most. They've spent the most to be to be more precise. >> H, I love what their midfield right now is top. I love their signings and Mamush, >> you still have Richalis, you still have Madison, they have so many options. uh Tottenham have a structural problem and in as much as yes I love the Zabi and everything they still the most they're going to do this season >> is Europa >> Europa >> relegation is not going to happen >> but I'm not let me let me let me be >> might not survive this season >> no they will stay they will stay they sign those guys have a good team and is a good >> for the sake of the six points GETS EVERY SEASON >> YEAH OF course that's why we did not want for every game to go. >> Okay. Okay. So now away from Tottenham, Wendy, Manchester City, Pep Guardiola, you know, going after 10 years a new era starts at 80 yard. Enzo Meska coming in. They played in the community shield. They were not convincing enough. They'll be playing Bmouth tomorrow. >> What do you expect from Manchester? >> Urge Manchester City fans to be to be patient with the >> Exactly. because the kind of game those people were playing with us that is not the Man City I know honestly >> and then of course Rodri going to Barcelona >> all right anyways uh quick predictions about the matches that are going to be played today I'll start with Al City against Manchester United do you believe you'll get a win because at the moment 23 minutes are gone and you trailing one goal to nil if you guys remember Yes. [laughter] >> Do you believe you will come back in this game? >> 3-1. >> 3-1. [laughter] [laughter] I mean, do you see them coming back? >> No, no, no, no, no. The way they are playing right now, I think Manchester United are going to lose even 2-0 to be honest. >> Okay. Okay. So another match that is said to be played from 1700 that is Ipsswich against Crystal Palace, Nottingham Forest against Leads and then of course Brenford against Spurs Bri. >> Yeah, >> quite an interesting match for Tottenham. Of course they're stating away against Brenford. Do you see them winning? >> Yeah, I see a win. >> A win for Tottenham. >> I see a win for Tottenham. >> Okay, tomorrow Manchester City against Bournemouth. That will be extension of last season. You remember what happened the last game they played? I feel like Bmouth are going to beat Manchester City for the second time. >> Yeah. >> And a better one. Collins Brighton against Aston Villa. >> Aston Villa are going to they're going to play a good game and I think they win. >> Okay. And then Newcastle United J against Liverpool. >> Oh my that's a that's a that's a strong one. But Newcastle they don't have the squad that they have they last season. So I think Liverpool have the advantage here >> and then of course your team >> on Monday of course we going against >> yeah there's there's not much so [laughter] I'm just saying on that Monday you know Joe Pedro people have been talking about the number nine cars but he's going to break it I promise you you know this Manchester City that we have right now won't get the golden boot this season it would be a different player mark it to be a different player >> and that player will be JP number Imag let us do I want you to I want us to have predictions on the following issues. One, I'll start with top five. Top five. Number one, >> Arsenal. >> Two, >> Liverpool. >> Mhm. >> Chelsea. >> Mhm. >> Manchester United. >> No. Okay. Tottenham. >> Tottenham. >> Aston Villa. >> Aston Villa. Aston Villa. >> Aston Villa. Then we finish with Manu five. [laughter] >> Arsenal. >> Chelsea might be number two. >> Mhm. >> Uh Man City, Liverpool, Aston Villa. >> Aston Villa. >> Okay, let me surprise you. Number one, >> blue is the color. [laughter] Number two. >> Number two is red and white for Arsenal. Number three will be Manu, >> then Liverpool, then Man City, >> Collins, >> the Dul, >> Man United, >> Arsenal. Uh-huh. >> Chelsea. >> City. >> Then Liverpool. >> Okay. >> Hey, >> play of the season. >> The play of the season. >> Yeah. >> Uh, I'll go for >> Alan. Yes. >> I mean, uh, Jmo, >> who do you see winning the golden boot? >> JP9, bro. Come on. >> Pedro. >> Yeah. I mean, >> star of the season, Brio. >> Alexis Sanchez 2.0. Christian. Um, and then finally, I mean, >> golden glove. >> Golden glove. Do you say of course Sanchez with the kind of defense we have? >> Do you see Sanchez against [laughter] Sanchez a beast, bro? The best goalkeeper in the world. >> You guys um I mean we are looking at the English Premier League. Of course, some matches are set to be played. today and tomorrow and at the moment >> for the sake of the viewer United are thrilling one goal to nil against [laughter] the shock of the weekend if that will happen like that and then I think uh it has happened at the right time because they'll have to go down and see what to do >> number 19 >> their defense line is not good and they'll need to sign players as far as the season is concerned who do you see winning the league come next the end of the season will Arsenal go double for the very first time since 1932 2 all the way to you know 1936 when they won their league three uh three three pit like >> three consecutive seasons. Will they do that again this time around? Let's wait and see if it's a treble. >> A treble. >> Yeah, >> a treble in your dreams though. [laughter] >> You never this season. You [laughter] see that this season? >> You know, you know the difference is um look at this. You know, you think it's very easy for you cuz you have won the same first game. So, you think it will be all flowers all through. But remember, you have Champions League 54 cuz I think you're him now. It's not even the league. It's the Champions League. So, that the focus will be there. So, the league will be for Chelsea. I don't see going back to back. Only City have done that. The point is Chelsea, you're talking of Arsenal and I think uh is it next weekend? No, the other the weekend after next weekend Arsenal will play Aston Villa and then they'll welcome Chelsea at Emirates. >> Now let me shock you about that. >> Jedro going to going to score Kalmo will score >> then Enzo Fernandez will score and Fernandez is not going get early substitute. [laughter] The question is the question is >> which defense line will Chelsea start with because I want them. I mean, >> you see the way is humble today. [laughter] We have >> Let's do this again next weekend. Let's do this again next weekend. Of course, the matches and we'll be here to preview everything. And of course, special thanks to my able producer Beatric and all those who made it a success today. Guys, this final segment. Let's do this again next weekend. Of course, keep it the touch line. Enjoy the rest of your viewing on Y254 Manchester United City. Bye-bye.
