Happy exercising. I got to pull something off here. What should I pull off? Start throwing out suggestions. I'll get to them as I talk. I'm loving our Discord. I've always loved our Discord. Larry in Atlanta was just here waiting. Didn't even see an alert. The Growly Bear just double dipping on YouTube and Twitch. Our Discord, I don't know if it's because this summer I started chatting in it more kind of as a replacement for social media. I'll be honest. Um, this is something that Joe has wanted me to do for a long time. He's like, "When you have that funny thing you're going to put on Twitter, put it in the Discord." And I find that I just don't use threads or Twitter or I never have used Facebook for a long long time. Uh a lot of times I just go to the Discord and I'm like here I I still post on Instagram pretty much every day. But uh but yeah, the Discord has become uh a really really really nice place. And when I say has become, it always has been a nice place. I just feel like it's more frequently having conversations uh that that people in the audience uh are are talking about and not it's not started by me. Sometimes I I go in there and it's like oh my gosh uh got Nate and Tree foil have been going back and forth on on AI MLS and LLM. It's great. Love it. Uh in fact there there's people typing in there right now. Um, it's really good and people are really respectful. Uh, I hope that stays. You know, uh, there are some folks in there that I can tell, at least I'm guessing, are clearly members of different persuasions politically, but they get along. They may they may drop a little snark, but they don't they don't go at it. They don't start hating on each other. Uh people are very good at saying like, well, you know, okay, I I see what you're talking about. Not not maybe not where I'm coming from, but yeah, it's been it's been really good. Um also, we've got so much planning going on with technical tea launching about ideas coming fast and furious from Dr. Nikki and Jen in there. So, I'm in there more because of that. Um man, we've just we've just got uh we just got a good crowd in there. So, if you're in the Discord, thank you uh for for being a good crowd. Um, and if you're uh not in the Discord um and you're a patron, hook up your Discord. Come on and jump on in. Uh you should you should join us because it's uh there's some some really fun stuff in there. Every once in a while, somebody comes in and tries to throw a Molotov cocktail and I'm like, this is a virtual chat room. you're just throwing it at yourself. That's not a not a good idea. Uh but yeah, it's it everybody kind of just steps back and that that's my proudest moment is somebody comes in like, "Oh, what about this inflammatory remark?" And I just see everyone like, "Yeah, okay. I'll just let that die out and then move on to something else." Uh I hope it stays that way. Um, I hope I'm not tempting fate by talking about the fact that I'm excited about it. But yeah, it's uh I I go in there every morning now. It's the first thing I do unless I'm really busy. I'll just uh pop into the general tab and greet everyone, catch up on the conversations that happened when I was not there. Uh, usually what happens is I I see a couple interesting things, make a couple of uh observations or responses, uh, and then do my hey, I'm jumping in the rundown. Hi everybody. And obviously our our planning stuff is in Discord too. So I'll be I'll be jumping in and doing that. In fact, right now Amos and Dr. Nikki are busily planning a couple of weekend uh episodes of DTNS that'll be coming up. One is about the anthropology of tech and the other is about alternative technologies for cargo ships. So sales particularly uh but but also kind of talking about some other stuff uh as well. So really good stuff coming and the Discord kind of essential to it this way. I know Discord has a weird reputation out there because it's also the place where people do nefarious things sometimes. But I I tend to think that's just because Discord is a kind of an open platform like the web. I know it's not, but it's closer to that than it is like a Facebook because you can kind of just go start your own community and keep to it. You know, there's not an algorithm that's trying to push you into something. Lord Mulgar is like, "But I can't wait for the MySpace antisocial revival." Uh, yeah, I saw that MySpace is trying that. Good luck to them. I hope they Yeah, I hope they come up with something cool. It's not the first time somebody's tried to revive MySpace. So, I'll I will watch with a I I I won't say jaded eye, but I I will watch with a reserved expectation. How's that? I'm not I'm not trying to condemn them before they've tried, but uh Larry [laughter] just put a gif of someone throwing a Molotov cocktail in the Discord. See, that's what I'm talking about. Everybody just giving it a thumbs up. They're like, I don't want to deal with that. Ah, too funny. Yeah, Discord's the kitchen. Everybody hangs out until the uh the stream is live, till the show's on TV. That's exactly right. All right, things are popping off in there. >> [laughter] >> Uh, I I'm laughing at something Amos wrote about uh having a teen playing Roblox. All right. Skeptical eye. I Skeptical eye. Lord Mulgar is maybe even too far. It's a reserved like I I I want them to win, but I'm not going to place any money on it. Uh Howard asked if there's a place in Discord where people chat during the live show. Not really. Um, there used to be, but most people realize that everybody's in the chat room for the stream. So, right now, everybody's either in the Patreon chat room or in the YouTube or Twitch chat rooms. Not Not too many people talk in the Substack chat rooms, which is fine. You don't have to. Uh, but we always got Lord Mulgar, Alex C's over there in Patreon as well. And then, you know, all y'all over here in YouTube and Twitch chatting away at each other. Um, yeah, Discord's like like like Degrly Bear said, it's Howard wants to know where the cool kids are. Well, obviously wherever you are, Howard, that that defines it, right? Although Lord Mulgar is pretty cool. I'm just saying. I don't know. There's pl there's plenty of cool kids to go around. Oh, man. If you have not checked out uh teach you a lesson on Netflix, it's probably [laughter] when just heard me say no one chats in the substack and bounced over uh to the live stream. Hi Juan. Um, but I just wanted want you to know you you you know what studio I'm in. So if you ever get the the hankering u by all means. Um, but yeah, Netflix's uh teach you a lesson. Korean drama. I haven't checked to see if it's subbed. It's subbed, but if it's uh dubbed because I know some people are like, I don't want to read subtitles and that might be a that might be a barrier. Um, but it's so good. It is a mythical educational agency is created to help improve school experiences. It starts by protecting teachers from kids who are like kind of rich kids whose parents will, you know, retaliate against the teacher if the teacher does anything. Um, but uh the the way they go about it is just brilliant. It's a bit of a revenge fantasy uh trope, which is a trope in Korean dramas, trust me. Uh if you've ever seen The Glory or Taxi Driver, it's very much along those lines. More like Taxi Driver than The Glory. If you if you know, you know. But um but yeah, uh it's it doesn't it starts with like teachers are under siege from misbehaving students that are shielded from uh from discipline. uh which you could see like well that's true but you know but it it goes all over the place it doesn't stay there the uh the title of the show is teach you a lesson that's the English title teach you a lesson on Netflix um and it's just a like if you want the bad guys to lose every episode [laughter] and you just want to smile while the the good guys win but you wanted to feel like there were stakes and it wasn't like a Mary Sue situation it wasn't like too Oh, chef's kiss. So good. Anyway, teach you a lesson. Good stuff. I'll probably be talking about it on Chord Killers once we're done. We're like six episodes into the 10. The Williams tube is an early form of computer memory. It was the first random access digital storage device used successfully in several early computers. Displays a grid of dots on a cathode ray tube creating a small charge at each dot. The charge at each location is read by a thin metal sheet just in front of the display. Since the display faded, it was periodically refreshed. It operated faster than earlier acoustic delay line memory. >> Well, there you have it. >> All right. She's got one on her forearm and I got one on my chest. I got some multicolored Zelda hearts for all the kids on my chest and then I got a Dungeons and Dragons tattoo on my leg. >> Oh, what kind of DND tattoo? >> It's a um basically a a silhouette of the dice, you know, the 4 6 8 10 12 20. >> Mhm. And then behind the dice are multicolored like paint splotches that take the form of dragons. So [snorts] I found it online and I was like, "Oh, that's amazing." And then I found a artist that could do it. >> Do you have to go outside of Vasilla? >> Yes, it was in Anchorage. I have I have an artist here in Lilla, but she's really booked up because she's really good. Um, so if I can go get some uh some artistry done from Lower 48 and get that up on the thing, then by all means, why wouldn't I? >> By the way, I have some stuff to give away when we figure out when our meetup is going to be in October. >> Oh, yeah. >> Yep. >> Oh, here it is. >> Oh, wow. This is the first time I'm hearing of it. Oh. Um, World Con is where they, uh, is most famous for where they announce the Hugos, the Hugo Awards, which are the science fiction fantasy awards. Um, but yeah, it's it's I want to say the premier science fiction and fantasy conference, but then that'll start a flame war. It's this other it's the nebulas. It's whatever.
