Hey, what's going on everyone? It is B Avery and Lamont and we are back for the drop, a snowfall saga, a new show on FS Networks, aka Hulu. I almost messed up trying to say that right there. This is the first episode titled Click Pop. Wanda wants to break into LA's booming rap scene. She stakes her future on her cousin Lamar and a rising rapper, Artillery. Leon warns Wanda of the danger of the music business. Lamont, can it be any more dangerous than the drug game? We're gonna talk about it, guys. If you did not know, this is full of spoilers. If you have not seen the episode, we're going to spoil it up, down, left, right, in, and out as if you've already seen it. We are on my channel on YouTube, Lamont's channel on YouTube. And also, you may get an audio only version of this on Buzz Sprout and Spotify, whatever floats your boat. Lamont, I know we are big fans or we were big fans of Snowfall. I thought the show was fantastic. I was a bit disappointed with the season finale of Five or six because what happened to Franklin and maybe he'll pop up because he's not dead and I think they did. Yeah, they did mention his name in this first episode. Um my expectations I wanted to see it because or this show because it's a continuation of Snowfall. Uh, but at the same time, Lamont, to be honest with you, when I first saw the trailers for this, I wasn't blown away. I was like, "Oh my gosh, this is the next chapter. It's going down." You know, if it wasn't for Wanda in the trailer, I probably wouldn't be here right now. Because I I did like her character. But I'm coming to you right now. What did you think about the episode? Your general impressions, and also briefly, what was your expectations going in to this? This was one of those shows behavior where I didn't watch trailers. I didn't read what the show was about. I just knew it had something to do with the continuation of Snowfall and I knew it was bringing Leon and Wanda fresh out of Africa like they coming to America and I was intrigued with their relationship and their dynamic. So I wanted to see it and so when I watched this I had no expectations. I didn't know what to expect and at first I was a little mallayed because it was it started out kind of slow but as it was building the narrative it picked up pretty quick and I just got to say the actress playing Wanda sis you killing it. >> Don't you ever ever again in your life because I saw an interview where she was talking about how as a child she felt bullied for having the lips that are the size of hers. Those lips are beautiful young lady. Oh, I did not hear this. >> I don't I don't care what people said about you in the past. Your lips and your smile are immaculate. It is a calling card. And you is killing the ' 90s throwback style, my sister. Right now, you are my favorite character. I thought it was going to be Leon. Hell, the show probably ain't even about Leon because we did we didn't get to see Leon enough in the first 15 to 20 minutes. So, this show can't be about him. It is definitely your show, Wanda. you carrying this joint and I can't wait to see what you do this year. >> Right on, man. Right on. I love it, man. I love it. Um, it's interesting that you said Wanda is your favorite character in the show. Uh, I mean, she's cool. I I don't got nothing against Wanda, but she's not my favorite. Do you want to know who my favorite character is, Lamont? >> We're reviewing the show. Of course I do. What am I supposed to say? >> It's Mr. James. It is It is Mr. James. It's Mr. James, right? No. No, no, no. Not the daddy, but the son. I'm not talking about big daddy. No, I'm talking about I'm talking about the the the son the the brother of uh Lamar. I really did like him, man. Yeah, he was responsible to me. I thought he was a big brother looking out. He saved the day. Uh he was trying to set his little brother straight. Towards the end, he listened to his brother. You know, he had every right to just be like, "Man, sit your little ass down. Do you actually think I'm going to let you go outside in the middle of the night across town in en behind enemy lines uh to try to uh team up with your cousin Wanda with a guy artillery that just got beat up and people hunting him down? No, sit your butt down. But then the the way um I forgot his name. No, Lamar. The way that Lamar was like, "Look, man. I just I like Lamar, too, but I just like his brother more." With him saying, "Okay, what am I supposed to do? I'm 19 years old. You know, his mama, Mama G, told him that he's a grown man. You know, he trying to get some money in his pocket, go get a job at the church. But he said, "What am I supposed to do all day, all week, just sit around and drink 40s and dress the same in identical clothes at funerals?" If that wasn't a bar or some type of of enlightenment, somebody that has some wisdom at a young age, I don't know u what is. I I thought that was fantastic. I I had a ton of respect for his character because he he wasn't doing anything for me in the trailers because he he kind of just I'm not I'm I don't mean me I don't mean to be mean, but in the trailers he looked kind of wimpy. He looked kind of simpish. He was always running for his life. I'm like, man, can you defend yourself? I mean, and I'm just that's just how I felt. But when we get to know him now in uh this show right here, um I have no complaints at all. I'm I'm liking everything that we're getting uh from him u from both of them. uh from from everybody for the most part. No, no, no, no, not everybody. I'm I'm lying. Is there any character in this that you did not like that kind of rubbed you the wrong way? Got on your nerve. You know, you just want to be like, "Man, sit your ass down." >> Yeah. The whole LA police force that beat up the rapper. >> Yeah. >> Whole police force. They came especially the white guy who made it seem like he sent the black the black goons of the police force out there and he was the the whipcracker. Um, I really don't like him already. And you can already see who was going to be some of the antagonist of the show. Definitely the LAPD. >> Yeah, that's um I did not like them either. They they pissed me off. There was two things that really pissed me off and made me uncomfortable towards the end. the LAPD, especially, you know, um your Oreos, um that that look like you, but they they don't think like you, you know, uh all all skin folk ain't kin folk. That really did, you know, I I I was like, what's going on? Like these just black men out here minding their own business and you have a group of cops and I couldn't tell if there was cops initially at first and they're just going to go beat him up. It made a little sense like, oh, okay, you're shoving a cassette tape, you know, down his mouth. Artillery is making songs about killing cops or his partners. Uh, I can understand why that would frustrate you. It may put a bug up your butt, but of course, it doesn't justify you going and just beating the hell out of them and uh sending artillery to death. Do you think it was the cops that beat him up this bad? Well, we did see him get beat up, but do you think that the cops finished the job, beat him up more or just dropped him off where in the Crips neighborhood and they did more uh more more damage to him, more beatings to him? >> No, they dropped him off thinking that that was going to be the end of it. And we saw Artillery went to the hospital, survived even though they kind of try to keep it under wraps so that nobody else would come and try to finish the job. And now it just makes you wonder how are the police gonna behave when they feel when they figure out that the heavy artillery is still alive and probably about to get a major record deal spewing all the beans or how corrupt they are. I can't wait to see it. >> I Yeah. Um I I can't wait to see it either. Uh I want them all to go down. I want them all to die. Um it just really made me uncomfortable. What also made me uncomfortable was towards the beginning where, you know, we're in this new world or continuation of this world, this universe, and we see Leon, not Leon, I keep saying Leon, we keep seeing Lamar at the bus stop, you know, he was in the record store or some store and he was like, "Oh my gosh, I didn't know it was past 3." And it's just like, "No, like, oh my gosh, you know, it's it's night time. The zombies are going to come out. You know, stay inside till 6:00 in the morning." I mean, that's just crazy that not just people his age, but grown adults in their 30s, 40s, 50s, maybe even 60s are just like, "Man, you got to stay off the block." That these little kid, well, I don't want to say little kids, but young men or ys are running streets. Like, it it it really upset me. But then they have the accident outside and then they just start busting at each other, shooting. It's just chaos everywhere like this. This is just normal like a normal day at the park. I'm like, "What the hell?" Now, I do understand that that did play that did take place to a degree um at some point in time in in in Los Angeles, but I've never seen it played out like this before. It almost came across cartoonish. Also, the especially the way that Lamar was running through the streets and running through the alleys trying to escape. At one point when he was laying on the ground from all the bullets, I was like, "Okay, this is not really happening. He's dreaming right now of of how bad this could go and they're going to cut back to him like sitting in the bus or or or whatever, you know, posted up. But no, it was real. So yeah, not only that those cops beating up, you know, the black men at the end, but this at the very very beginning, you know, did make me uncomfortable. Um I just don't like to see that type of, you know, chaos, mayhem, and destruction. Um how do you feel about that? You agree, disagree? Where you at on that? >> I think it was real. Um, the only thing I thought that wasn't real was Lamar laying down on the ground like a damn fire hydrant where they were shooting. I think that he should have took his ass somewhere and gotten to safety. Um, because most likely if that was real, he would have been a garner. >> Yeah. >> Um, they was spraying bullets like it was rainfall going on out there. And I've read so many times that that has happened in LA where you have the Bloods on one side on one corner, the Crips see them, they come up and start spraying. It's just a shootout in the middle of the street. And then you mix that with corrupt cops. Some of them on the tape from drug dealers. Some of them on the tape with the blood. Some of them on the tape with the crips. And you just have a recipe for mayhem for the average person who don't want to be involved in any of that stuff having to always keep their track shoes on and run even when you sitting at the bus stop. And they did a fantastic job of displaying that in that scene. Real done. Real good. Real done. >> Yeah. Yeah. Um I I'll give you that. I I'll give you that. Um I do agree. Something that I just forgot to bring up, Lamont, you know what it means uh when they create characters that you love. you know what that means. You may have to go ahead and and pull out the notepad over here. Uh but when I was talking about >> how much um I love James >> towards the end of this episode. Oh, got it. >> I was like, "Wait a minute. You you giving us a strong black man that's a role model that we can look up to that's willing to lead this community, want to stay away from drugs, you know, not beating on people, you know, just great guy. He's going to die. He's not going to make it to the end. He's going to get shot by the the crips, the Bloods, the cops. He don't give He's not going to make it to the end. I want him to make it towards the end. I do because I like him. I I I really do. But, you know, they they're not going to they're not going to keep him alive, unfortunately. And I hope I'm wrong. I I really do hope I'm wrong. Uh what do you think about that, man? Am I am I am I going too far with my my predictions here or or do you think that's uh you think I'm pretty accurate as far as that's concerned? Folks, go buy a lottery ticket. It's about to snow in September, even in a hot ass place. Cuz normally be Avery don't do these type of predictions this early. He lean on me and he always pick on me, but I usually get [laughter] it right. Folks, I am completely with Be Avery this time. >> Yeah, >> this guy is going to kick the bucket and everybody's going to be mad. Yeah. >> Um the the thing is we don't know how long it's going to take. Is it going to be season one? Could he survive the season five like Uncle Rome did? Yeah. But at the end of the day, he is gonna kick the bucket in a dramatic way. And I do also see him getting involved with this music business even though he really doesn't want to. >> Right. Okay. Is um is Franklin going to pop up? And do you want him to pop up? >> Man, that that that is a perplexing question, ladies and gentlemen. it is. >> I kind of want to say I don't care whether he pops up or not. I like we we as reviewers, we understand the dynamic between the show and what the actor playing the role in the show and their schedules. So, do I think that Dampson Adris's schedule is going to allow him to pop up in this? Probably not. But would I like to see him in this? I wouldn't mind. But what is he gonna do? Like how do you have a character who was the main carrier of the previous show just all of a sudden pop up unless it's something like he just pop up out of Panama some damnwhere in hiding to help out with some money or something then he disappear again. I would just love to see how they would weave it together. So I think I'm going to say yeah I wouldn't mind seeing them. >> Okay. Well well well good. Um I mean they did mention him. Uh I mean he has to be around here somewhere. Um, but also something that we uh actually let's go back. Let's go back cuz Leon, he didn't pop up until maybe the beginning of the second act, if you want to break up uh episodes like that. >> Wanda still has the reputation uh unfortunately of a crackhead, man. Um, and that's just sad. I don't want that for my girl uh with her beautiful teeth. Um, I I really don't. I I had I was kind of wondering to myself like, okay, how did we end up here? This doesn't make any sense. When we left Snowfall, Wanda and Leon were in Africa. They were in Ghana, and they left with a lot of money. They left with a few million dollars. If you know, if if I'm not mistaken, y'all let y'all can correct us in the comment section. And so, um I'm like, I hope they didn't blow the money. What happened to her and Leon? What happened to the money? I thought y'all was trying to escape all of this chaos and destruction and death that you are part of. What made y'all come back? You know, were they mistreating y'all over there in Ghana and Africa? Like, what's going on? So, hopefully we do get those questions answered. Um, but also when Leon popped back up in their life, you know, he almost shot her. Um, I kind of liked his introduction to this. I'm I'm assum I think he said that the money went to his legal clinic and and I want to know if Well, we're going to have to know more about that. If they don't delve into that more, I'm going to be really disappointed. But were you kind of thinking the same that I was like, okay, what's going on? You know, where is Leon? Are they still together? Did they break up? Where's the money? Why they still living in the ghetto? What happened in Ghana? Like what are your thoughts? As far as all that's concerned, >> I had all those questions when the show started with just Wanda looking as good as a biscuit and molasses. I was thinking, where the hell is Leon? Like, isn't the show about them as a couple? And then it just took me for a loop. No, it's not. It's about her and what she's doing. And of course, I had big questions like, >> last we saw them, y'all was in Africa. Now, the only thing of Africa I see is the necklace you're wearing, um, Wanda, cuz she had on an African necklace throughout the whole show. >> And we finally learned when she go over to G House that her and Leon have an off and on relationship. And they've been off and on, back and forth, off and on. And that's probably why we're not getting their story together because they want the drama to build up. And they probably have to come together based on love and some dramatic situation where they need each other to come together. >> Yeah. Yeah. Um I I like how you uh broke that down as well. Uh that they're not just going to be together all willy-nilly. I don't know. I mean, maybe it would have been nice if uh you know, when they we saw them come back, you know, they're married and they have a child together and a family and all this stuff, but I don't know. Maybe that's too much uh sunshine and rainbows. But you guys can let me know uh what you think. Um I did not like this guy right here. Uh DG. Um he he got on my nerve. I think he you know I think he should have had some humble pie just a little bit towards the beginning of the episode when they're go to the the record studio and Wanda sitting over to the side as his intern. I don't like people speaking for me as well. like when we're when I'm about to go into a meeting um or try to cut some deal and it's like well like I do that every month or something like that. I want to go in there with a plan. I I want to know that we're all on the same page. I want to have I want us to have each other's back as far as saying, "Okay, only talk when you're spoken to or you give me a signal. Do this. Do that." But in this case, I did not think that Wanda was talking out of turn when she was like, "Hey, what about artillery? you know, uh, this white lady executive here, I think her name is, uh, Shelly. Um, I could be mistaken. Um, I like the fact that she did give Wanda some praise and was like, "Hey, uh, no, not Shel, I said Shelly, Jenny." I like that she did recognize Wanda, give her some praise, give her some recognition, just like, "Okay, it seems like you know what you're talking about. You know, I want to see you uh the next mission or not the next mission, the next meeting." And um also uh later on in the episode as well when when uh Wanda spoke up at the other meeting, you know, she was like, "I'm sorry. I know you had it all under control, you know, yada yada yada." Um how do you feel about all that? And also, uh this character Jenny, um there was also another white man in there with a suit on by the name of Vance, but I don't have an image of him. You know, how do you think about these supporting characters and you know, their interactions and how they would play into the overall overarching story? I like the female executive. Obviously, she's going to be down with the get down and some illegal things happen to push the company. I think she's going to be supportive of the plight of the black folks and supportive of the plight of the woman as you saw the way she was repping Wanda throughout the um the meeting and kept referencing Wanda and showing Wanda love. Um the white dude Vance, man, he's a puppet. [laughter] He he is a puppet. But I also think that he's a tattletail. So the minute my Jerry Curl friend do something stupid, he's gonna bail, jump ship, and tell on his ass. Which leads me to him. He's a user. He's one of those black dudes that slave master pull you on the front porch cuz you did a good job of slick talking, putting down your other people to uplift yourself. And that's what he's trying to do with Wanda. And Wanda had to check his ass. Now, I get a lot of energy from him that he wants to get in between the sheets with Wanda and gets Oh, panda draws. Yeah, she she even called him out on it. But keep going. Keep going. I'm sorry. >> Yeah, she did. But, uh, what I'm waiting to see is what's going to happen when him and Leon meet each other because y'all remember Leon is a G. >> Yeah, >> he might be short. >> He might look like he little, but from last season, Leon grew to be a real G in this game. and he's kind of the wild card that's outside looking in on everything going on on this whole show that when he get in the game folks and start doing what he need to do, it's going to be some cutthroats and some asses clenching cuz Leon is that dude. And Mr. Lover lover with the Jerry Curl number seven like James Brown, you going to have hell to pay when you see Leon coming to your town. >> Hell to pay downtown. Okay, I'm done with that. Uh, what do you think of Mr. Big Daddy Bubba Gump? Mr. McKelty Williamson, I like him. I do. When he checked uh when he checked James like, "Don't use that [ __ ] word about your brother, boy. I will [clears throat] beat your ass." I was like, you know, the the word [ __ ] man, it is oh, it's so layered, so much history, so much nuance. It's um it it's really interesting to me how the word is felt and interpreted over the generations. But how did you feel about Bubba Gump? I liked him, man. He reminds me of the type of old school person that would be doing exactly what he's doing. He's behaving like the type of guy you would think he would be. And I'm just kind of wondering what is the relationship with him and his woman. I clearly see what the relationship is with him and his kids. and he's just a papa that wants to protect his kids. The mama will want to protect them, too. But the issue that they're both missing is that they don't want their kids to have big dreams because they both seem like they've been hurt in the past by trying to have big dreams. And they just want their kids on a straight and narrow. >> And what have we learned in life? >> You've got to take big risks to get big rewards. And they're not willing to do that right now. But at the end of the day, you can always take the big risk and fall back to where you're at right now. Which is why I'm glad to see Lamar and Wanda keep on pushing with the dream even though the parents is kind of not with it. >> Yeah. Yeah. Yeah, man. Uh hopefully they'll get on board, man, and support their uh their baby and uh you know, he can reach his full potential. Um >> here we have Wanda and Mr. Artillery. Mr. Artillery and Wanda. And I I'm like you, Lamont. Uh it did take a while for this episode to come together for me. Um I really I I loved it towards the end. I'm like, "Yeah, okay. Let's get ready for uh episode uh two." You know what I'm saying? It's going down. You know, he done flipped the whole um the whole [ __ ] not the whole [ __ ] the whole uh bloodhouse over, you know, about to get his ass whooped. Uh but your your boy Lamar um was in here working, man, and uh came up with the beat. and uh it ended up working out uh in their favor. But yeah, what what are your thoughts on uh Mr. Artillery here? Uh I mean I don't have a lot of thoughts about him other than real recognized real. He recognized a snake in the grass and Wanda's boss and I think he's gonna recognize who really has his back with Wanda and Lamar. I do like that he's kind of like old school hip hop where he don't want none of this commercial stuff that white man want to push. That's the same old same old. >> And I think that eventually him and Wanda going to team up and get rid of Slick Rick James. That's her boss. >> And I think they're going to be an incredible duo. And I can't wait to see it. >> Yeah. Um I uh I I can't wait to um I can't wait to see it either. Um I know we I know you like Wanda. Uh but she also did something incredibly stupid in this episode and was out of pocket. >> She did. >> I don't advocate for violence. I definitely do not advocate for putting your hand not only on women just in general, but Wanda, >> right? >> What the f woman? What is wrong with you? What makes you think that you can just walk up to a man and claw his face where he's bleeding and he not do? And I think somebody in the room was taking her back. Like, you know, I I could be mistaken because I was just blown away. Like, what what are you doing? I'm not I'm not saying I wanted him to hit her or push her down or punch her in the face, but if he did and what he did, I mean, he was justified. I mean, you want you can't just do that. You can't just Wolverine somebody face like that because you're upset, you know, unless you defend yourself or they grabbed your ass or something like that, but you just walked up and attacked this dude. Like, what the f what's wrong with a Wanda, bro? Why does she do that? Um, that's one of these unwritten rules in society that a woman is able to hit a man, slap a man, spit on a man, do whatever they want to do to a man and there's no consequences because the consequences is this unwritten rule. You better not put your hands on me. But like my grandma said, Lamont, I am a woman. You're being raised by a woman. Don't let no woman beat up on you or hit you, and you ain't do nothing to deserve it. >> No. >> Period. Yeah. >> If she's going to come and not be ladylike and treat you like a man, then you have a right to defend yourself. My grandma was very specific in the words defend her, defend myself. And dude could have been in his right to just restrain her, push her to the ground, restrain her, push her in a chair, and remind her, don't you assault me. But at the end of the day, I I like Wanda. That's my character. But she was wrong for doing that. And it was very dangerous. >> Very dangerous. Yeah. You can't just don't don't do that, man. I mean, even if he was reacting off reflex, a reflex can kill you on accident. You know, somebody do something behind you like, "Get off me." And, you know, hit him in the nose, make the the that bone go up into the brain and kill them like that. I mean it's um the possibilities are endless unfortunately on what bad can happen. So Wanda >> B, not to mention it was the '9s where we hadn't had the women's rights movement the way we have it now in the Me Too era. And you know, secondly, we women are always telling men to control your emotions, you know, don't do something like that. Think rational. And she just lost it right there. And she wasn't thinking rational. Yeah, she was not thinking rational. Um, are Leon and and and um Wanda thinking rational because I mean we have the scene right here, you know, he got his hand on his appendix uh you know for his his his concealed carry there. It it stress me out though like these these shows and movies with guns and nobody has a holster. It just you know takes away the realism. But it I just I I don't know. I've never, you know, ran the streets like that and tried to holster a weapon without a holster in my pants. I I find it to be very I imagine to be very uncomfortable and dangerous. But anyway, my what I was trying to say is like um again, when I was having this conversation right here, man, a couple of gunshot just went off at random and they jumped. They got scared. So, I'm just like, man, like why are y'all still here? >> Like, go live somewhere else where you don't got to worry about this. I mean, >> I don't agree with abandoning your hood or your neighborhood, you know, especially if you're trying to build it up, but you can only do so much and uh you know, they barely got out alive the first time around in the original Snowfall. And so I I don't know. It's just I just feel like they have more options and so and I'm I'm really eager to find out what they did with the money and like is all of it invested in this legal clinic? Is the legal clinic even working out? Is it is it profitable? What does it look like? Um cuz they they got to explain where all this money went and and you know them leaving Africa. If they don't do that, then that's just horrible writing in my in my opinion, you know. So, I don't know how you feel about that. >> Oh, we definitely need some explanation. That was too much money, my brother. Like, >> and I'm sure they'll do a flashback scene. We might even get a flashback scene in which we do see Franklin whenever you know they done the money whatever happened with the money we might get that kind of scene or something like that. Um but you're right when Leon was like we need to get up out of here. Wanda get in the car. What the hell is you doing walking away Wanda? You was acting like you a crackhead in that moment cuz your safety was in jeopardy. His guns are flying. Bullets are popping. It sound like the Fourth of July up in LA and you just wanted to walk away. Um, nah, we got to do better than that. And I just find it ironic that you climb through the man window >> to get something. You give him a kiss and he was like, "You want to stay?" And you was like, "Nah, it ain't good for me." But you climb through his window. >> Yeah. You You know what I'm saying? Yeah. Like what the >> Come on, Wanda. Like, make itense. >> Y'all be tripping some, man. >> Make it make sense. Like like you don't you don't put raw meat in front of a dog and don't think he want to eat. >> Like stop it. >> Stop it. Come on. >> One. >> Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. That's um that's not going to work. That's not going to work. That's not going to work. Lamont. Um so overall you pretty happy with the episode. Is this something that you want to continue to uh embark on? Go down this journey. Go down this trip. Go down this adventure. >> Oh, I'm completely intrigued, man. By the by the end, I was like you. By the end of the episode, I was really enjoying it. Um, they cut it at a point where I wanted to see more, and I hate when they do that. But hey, I'm here for it. And if the audience will stick with us, we'll keep bringing them the breakdowns and let you know what's going on. >> Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. We we um we we may do that. Um, we may do that. Um, what are your Do you have anything else that you want to discuss or go over any final thoughts or anything like that? >> That's my final thought. Watch it. I I um I I have a fantasy desire that, you know, all the Bloods and Crips are going to unite towards the end of the season and go back and beat up the cops. That's not going to happen. But that that would be nice. That would be wonderful. >> It could happen if we had Michael Jackson pop up on the scene and do a beat it video. >> You stupid. [laughter] You stupid.
