Video summary
The Backrooms movie features a cast of well-known entities like Pirate Clark and the Still Life creatures, but recent commentary from director Kane Parsons has revealed information about a secret entity known as furniture crabs that was almost included in the film. These unique beings are described as fleshy, crab-like organisms that inhabit tables and other wooden structures within Level Zero. While they were not visually depicted on screen during the movie's runtime, their existence is hinted at through cryptic imagery found in murals painted by Pirate Clark himself, specifically a quote stating "Tables don't bleed." This phrase likely refers to instances where an angry Pirate Clark attacked these creatures with such force that they bled, leading him to believe furniture was incapable of injury.
The biology and behavior of the furniture crabs are fascinatingly detailed through fan-created diagrams based on Parsons' interviews, suggesting they function as a novel species derived from wood termites rather than simple physical objects. These entities utilize their host's wooden structure as an exoskeleton without burrowing into it in traditional ways, instead being generated directly by the Backrooms complex itself. Their movement is characterized by frantic, random activity similar to that of dogs or crabs on a beach, driven not by hunger or hunting instincts but simply for amusement and mischief. They navigate their environment using sensory setae and display problem-solving abilities, effectively acting as sentient amalgamations designed to confuse inhabitants rather than threaten them directly.
Beyond the visual description, there are compelling theories regarding what these entities represent within the Backrooms' reality-warping logic. One interpretation suggests they are a misremembered recreation of household pets like dogs or cats, where the complex retains knowledge that animals have four legs but fills in other details with random furniture shapes due to its distorted perception. Another theory posits that they manifest from Pirate Clark's intense hatred for his low-quality job and terrible furniture; the Backrooms may have taken these negative emotions and transformed them into monsters specifically designed to scare him, explaining why he views them as vermin despite their docile nature. This concept reinforces the idea that the Backrooms distorts real-world memories and feelings into tangible horrors or quirks within its levels.
Although currently confined to Level Zero in this iteration of the lore, the introduction of furniture crabs opens up possibilities for future expansions of Kane Parsons' universe involving other locations like the Red City or Pool Rooms. The fact that almost any piece of four-legged furniture could potentially be a sentient entity implies that much of the clutter seen throughout the movie might actually house these hidden beings waiting to scurry around and play tricks on anyone who turns their back. While they were likely cut from the final film for pacing or realism reasons, their inclusion in official commentary canonizes them as an important part of the story's deeper mystery regarding how reality is misremembered and reshaped within this strange dimension.

The Backrooms movie has several entities
that you already know about. There's
Pirate Clark, of course. These are the
most popular one of the movie. Then
there's the Still Life entities. You got
the big fat guy with the beard. You got
our favorite Archibald Leland Sutter.
And then you have the red-headed Still
Life, which is probably Clark's wife,
who he then scalps before Pirate Clark
eats Clark. I made a video about all
those entities already, but recently
after the movie's released, we have new
information about a secret entity that
almost was included in the movie and
still is technically included in it. We
have this information directly from Kane
Parsons himself in the director's
commentary about the movie, and that
entity is known as furniture crabs.
>> And the
>> [music]
>> the furniture crabs.
There's a little table that scurries
around like a very fast crab. [music]
So, more like a hit crab.
>> That sounds terrifying.
>> Yeah, no, Clark, specifically Pirate
Clark, hates it. And I like to think
during this period of time they go on
little adventures together, like while
Mary's away and we're we're we're away
from Clark. This this whole little
whimsical [music]
sitcom going on between the two of them.
>> Now, furniture crabs sound pretty
awesome to me, so I want to make a whole
video talking about them today. I think
they might be pretty important and play
a large role in the movie, even though
we don't see them, and I'll explain that
just in a second. Just wait. Today, I
want to tell all you wonderful viewers
about furniture crabs, everything we
know about them, their biology, where
they come from, what they look like,
every single thing that I can talk
about, I will talk about them in this
video. If that sounds cool, please leave
a like on the video. That way the
algorithm knows that you still care. I
would appreciate that. And let's go
ahead and get into this explanation.
Let's talk about the furniture crabs,
shall we?
>> [music]
>> Now, I know what you're thinking right
off the bat. You know, this seems kind
of random. We didn't see any instances
of these creatures kind of moving around
or whatever, but I don't think it
actually is random because I believe
these furniture crab entities were
actually hinted at inside of the movie
in the large creepy mural that Mary
finds. You know, the one with like the
entity throwing the guy out the window,
the cryptic text, all that stuff. A lot
of this imagery inside of the mural is
is very cryptic, very scary. I'm going
to make a video talking about it and
kind of breaking it down, but one part
of the mural that was really difficult
for me to understand before the
furniture crabs came out was the quote
that says "Tables don't bleed." That
text is just right there in the middle
of the entire mural, and that's random.
It's a creepy sentence, like it's
terrifying to hear the idea that tables
might bleed, but whoever wrote the
mural, whoever drew it, said "Tables
don't bleed." As if they saw it happen.
I'm under the belief that Clark himself
painted this mural, and in his insane
state, he's just copying down stuff that
he's seen in fleeting memories and that
kind of thing. But now that we know that
furniture crabs, these kind of fleshy
blood creatures that look like furniture
exist, maybe that's exactly what Clark's
referring to when he said that tables
aren't supposed to bleed. From this same
audio interview with Cain Parsons about
the movie, he says that Pirate Clark
specifically hates furniture crabs. The
entity thinks they're like vermin. He
just wants to kill them off for some
reason, which is kind of crazy cuz they
seem pretty cool, but maybe one time
Clark himself was walking with Pirate
Clark, and out of nowhere a furniture
crab scurries by, and it makes Pirate
Clark angry, and then Pirate Clark like
stabs it or hits it or stomps it or
something, and that's why it starts
bleeding, and that's why we get Clark
saying "Tables don't bleed." But all
that stuff out of the way, I just wanted
to mention that little Easter egg to
begin with. Now I want to discuss the
biology of these creatures, what they
look like, where you might find them,
and all that kind of deeper lore that
you probably clicked on the video for.
Over on Reddit, after this audio
released of Kane discussing the
furniture crab entities, an amazing
artwork of a diagram depicting a
furniture crab by user Knoll04 gives us
some insight about how these creatures
might actually exist from a realistic
standpoint. [music]
Now, as we know, and if you've watched
this channel for any length of time, you
know that Backrooms creatures kind of
have this really wide array of bio
biology. Some of them are flesh and
blood, others are more metaphysical,
others are so enigmatic that the human
mind can't comprehend them existing.
Even in the Backrooms movie, the still
lifes are stuffed with like goo fluff.
That That's not real, but they're
walking around, they're living, they're
breathing. Pirate Clark, you know, he he
bleeds and he's a flesh and blood
creature, but he's also a Backrooms
entity. And in the online Backrooms
lore, there are tons of examples of
creatures that don't obey physics, it
doesn't make sense why they exist, they
don't have blood, they don't have
organs, but they still have sentience.
And the furniture crabs are no
exception. The basic idea is that
furniture crabs have this outer
exoskeleton of a table. They literally
inhabit a table. They live inside of it.
They were spawned in that way, created
that way by the Backrooms. These next
few paragraphs are directly from this
graphic, this diagram about the
furniture crabs, but I wanted to read
them cuz it sounds really cool. It
sounds like scientific and stuff, so I
wanted to just rip it off of the page
and let you exactly hear how it's
supposed to sound. And maybe how the
biology works of these furniture crab
entities. The furniture crab is a novel
species of common wood termite native to
the complex. The termite takes the size,
form, and internal shape of a common
article of wooden furniture, utilizing
the surrounding wooden structure as an
exoskeleton. It does not appear that the
termite ever burrows into the structure
the way a standard termite would, rather
the organism is generated by the complex
already within its shell. Current
hypotheses posit that these instances
arise from lossy replication of termite
infested furniture structures in real
life. Legs of the article of furniture
become inhabited by the legs of the
termite. A gap in the exoskeleton allows
for a crab-like motility, variation in
width of which results in proportional
variation in speed of the organisms. So
far, secondary or distal joints have yet
to be observed. Organism demonstrates
animalistic behavior. Species have been
observed utilizing sensory setae to
navigate and familiarize itself with
various routes within the complex. After
which, it will engage in bouts of
frantic random activity periods. Some
instances have demonstrated semblances
of intelligent thought, problem-solving,
and logic in order to overcome
obstacles. Though its movements are
crab-like, it shows many behavioral
similarities with the common house dog.
It is currently unknown how the species
metabolizes or reproduces, if at all.
So, those few paragraphs right there
were ripped directly from this graphic
by user null4, and what they think the
furniture crab's biology is. And I have
to agree with it for the most part. I
think it's pretty cool and a pretty neat
idea that the backrooms spawns these
things in. Like it is not like a termite
that lives in a table that fell from
reality. That's how they make it. That's
how they think the the entity should be
is a moving table. And I'll get into
some theories in a second as to why I
think that. But pretty much, if you
didn't listen to any of the science
stuff, this entity is a backrooms
amalgamation. It's a creation of its own
design. It doesn't exist anywhere else,
and they scurry around, they move around
kind of like dogs, they behave like them
as well, and overall, they seem to be
pretty chill. And I don't know why Pyro
Clark hates them. That seems kind of
cringe.
Theories as to what these entities are
actually meant to represent range
widely. As we know, the Backrooms takes
things from real life and kind of
misremembers them as it recreates them
inside of itself. Pirate Clark is what
Clark was, but just anthropomorphized
[music]
into all his hatred. The rooms we see
were rooms from the real life world, but
just broken down and misremembered with
incorrect facts, so on and so forth. So,
what could these furniture crabs be of
failed recreation of? What exists in our
life that was misremembered enough to be
made in the Backrooms? Some theories
indicate that the furniture crabs are
the Backrooms misremembering what dogs
or cats or household pets are, because
the Backrooms knows that those animals
have four legs, but everything else is
just random, is just blurry to the
Backrooms, so it recreates things with
four legs based off what other things it
sees, like furniture. You know, dogs
have four legs, they walk around,
they're all happy, and that seems to be
what these tables and and chairs and
things do. I've seen other people kind
of deduce that these entities mean a
little bit more and have a deeper
breadth of imagination. You know how in
the Backrooms movie, Clark really hates
the furniture that he's selling? Like he
despises selling it, he hates it, it's
terrible quality, it's horrible, he
hates his job, he hates his life, he
hates everything pretty much. But he
specifically hates his furniture. Maybe
because he hates his furniture so much,
the Backrooms took those feelings of
hatred towards the furniture and made
them manifest into actual monsters or
entities. I mean, it makes sense. You
know, Pirate Clark's face is distorted,
probably because Clark is looking
through a glass bottle of liquor so
much, and that's what his face looks
like. So, the Backrooms is capable of of
taking things from reality and
recreating them in the Backrooms itself.
We know this. It's not new information,
but what if they took that thought of
Clark's hatred for for own furniture and
made those furniture pieces into
monsters, because that's how much they
thought they would scare Clark. You
know, if he sees one bleed, it would
scare him. So, maybe that's what the
Backrooms thought it all meant. I sound
really crazy talking about this, and I'm
sorry, but it's a theory nonetheless.
Now, as far as we know though, these
things are docile. They don't attack,
they don't hunt, they don't do anything
like that. They act like dog or crab.
You know, if you've been on a beach
before, you've walked past a crab, it
doesn't jump on you and like try to eat
you or something. Just walks around and
does its own little thing. Just like
these little entities do. I think the
funniest part of these creatures is the
fact that they just move around for the
fun of it. There's no actual reason.
They get random bouts of inspiration and
then movement, and they move around not
not for anything else, but just to mess
with Clark and anybody else that's
there. And that's that leads to all the
shifting maze-like construction of the
Backrooms. We also hear in the movie
that things look different when you turn
around. Like, I'm pretty sure Clark is
referring to something and he says like,
"The rooms change when I'm not looking."
Or something like that happens. That's
probably because these little entities
are just literally scurrying around.
They're they're just doing a little
devious lick on the people inside the
complex just for the fun of it, and I
really appreciate that for them. Now, in
the movie we see a ton, and I mean like
an actual ton, a metric ton of furniture
in the Backrooms. We see couches, we see
chairs, we see tables, we see a throne,
we see tons of other stuff as well. And
I want to actually ask the question to
you, maybe these furniture crabs are not
just in the table form. We heard them
describe these tables, but if other
pieces of furniture have four legs, like
maybe a sofa or a stool or something
along the lines of a throne, maybe
they're all or most of them are
furniture crab entities or some kind of
sentient entity. But, if the only
requirement for a furniture crab is to
have like four legs, well, then stools
and desks and chairs and ottomans and
literally any other piece of furniture
with four legs could be a furniture
crab. You know, they're not called desk
crabs, they're called furniture crabs,
which to me indicates that a lot of
these things we see in the movie are
probably entities. Especially that one
stool that Clark grabs and kind of runs
back into reality with. What if that was
a furniture crab? That'd be pretty
funny. So, what does this all mean for
the future of the Backrooms and the
Backrooms series? Well, obviously, the
furniture crabs were not included in the
movie technically. They were written
about on the mural with the tables don't
bleed line, but I think Kane kind of cut
them from it maybe for time, maybe for
[music]
realism, I don't know. But, I think they
actually are really cool idea and they
kind of flesh out how strange the
Backrooms is and show us how it might
misremember things. On top of this, we
only know about this furniture crab
entity existing in level zero. What
about the Red City or the Pool Rooms or
any other part of Kane Pixel's Backrooms
complex? I'm sure there's other entities
too that are not just furniture crabs.
But, the fact that we have, you know,
still lifes, we have pirate Clark, we
have furniture crabs, this leads me to
believe that Kane Pixels is open to the
idea of multiple entities existing in
his world [music] just in realistic ways
like these entities right here in this
video. But, I would be interested to see
if maybe in the next [music] Backrooms
movie, if we get a second one or maybe a
full-length series, I would love to see
what other kinds of things he creates
for the other parts of his world. We've
already seen the Red City, we've seen
the Pool Rooms. I want to know what's in
there as well. You know, this is pretty
neat. Let's see what else we can do with
it, you know. But, we're just going to
have to wait and find out cuz I don't
make the movie. I just sit here and talk
about it. So, Kane Pixels, if you're
listening, put me in the next movie,
please.
Please. So, that was my official
explanation of the furniture crab
entity. I really enjoyed this one. It's
pretty much canonized. I mean, not
technically, but it it might as well be.
It's really cool. I like the fact that
they're just like little dogs. They just
run around and they also
>> [music]
>> mess with people's minds. It's really
cool. I think people should do that more
in real life. But, if you did enjoy this
video, please leave a like. That way the
algorithm knows. And also, subscribe for
