I thought. So, I'll have to call this
video the anatomy of a chimney. Wonder
how long that's been stuck in that
cavity
and who used it last and what they were
doing.

Tuesday,
I think. I tell you what, 10 half an
hour ago it was bouncing down here.
Absolutely bouncing down. So, we've had
a bit of a hectic morning running around
picking stuff up, collecting stuff, I
suppose, materials, sand cement, etc.
Alex has rung up and swapped that for a
full tunner.
Do it outside, but it's too windy. and
then come in to see this
this damp patch on the
on the dust sheet just on that corner,
but it's it's damp where the walls have
been damp and it's um it's a weird one.
I thought it was leaking from above cuz
we took it all out, but obviously the
roof's on over the top. So, that is
wicked up out the wall.
So, that chimney breast is soaking wet
somehow. Definitely a failed damp
course. This thing
that's an that's an epic fail at that
thing plugged into the mains and then
drilled into every three bricks. See
where the curl is? That's where it's
drilled into the bricks and resin in if
you like. What a waste of time that is.
So today
we got our acros. Now we've got this
brick work down probably down to about
here. But the joyister sat on the
chimney breast, we think. So, better
safe than sorry, we've brought the acros
in. So,
we're going to
prop off the
put a plate down here.
Let me think which way the choice is
going.

Yeah, choice to go in that way cuz the
floorboards are going that way. So, the
joist going that way. So, we're going to
put a plank down. Spread the weight. Got
a piece of 3v2 to put up there to take
the weight of these joists here. Once
that's propped,
we can take this down. And also, once
that's propped, we can put we've got an
extra long acro to go from the hearth up
to the ping. So everything's held
basically until we get all these walls,
all this block work back up cuz once
this is out. We've got to reinstate the
cavity wall, the internal skin. So um
is that the long one?

We got that just in just in case ours
don't reach to the ping. So
then get this done first and then wire

Now, we're going to prop this half
where the joist is, which is there.
There's no to come across a bit.
I've got a piece of 32 put in there. So,
I'm going to put put the PV2 in and then
up to the ping up there.
And then we'll just check if that piece
of timber is still loose and see if
anything settled. Here's the cavity ties
been put in.
So, because none of this is tied in
anymore, this whole section we're tying
into the walls and we're tying into
that. So, we need to get some long
blueird screws for that. Bluebird ties
for that.
Um, still looking for them. They're hard
to get hold of now, but we'll sort it
out. And then we've got all this
all this to take out yet, which is
currently got the plling sat on it. So
once the plling's propped, we can take
take this skin out.
Yeah, we'll just take it out from up
there.

out from up there, obviously. Just drop
it down into the chimney.

And we'll have to snap these off as we
go. These headers, but we'll leave them
in for now.

piece of timber still loose?

news. Right. Let's get this a

camera on. So anyway, Alex is up in the
loft. He's just started the uh took the
top of those bricks out. You see there's
overheaders underneath the ping, but the
ping is propped onto this cut down
through that anyway. So he's tucked down
as far as he can reach down. So now I'm
going to reach up and prize this skin
out.
And while the skip's still here, which
chucking her in the top, that's the
first bit. The second bit I'd missed
fall out the skip. So yeah, we'll just
keep um pulling them out and chucking
them in. We're due for a swap any
minute. So, well, hopefully in a minute,
but let's crack on. Get this locked
down.

And in a quite a
handy turn for events, skit wagons here.
So
we are ready to crack on with this and
we'll have a we'll have a nice empty
skip as you can see that we've got worth
out of that one. So there's in that 8
ton skip is that wall
all the inside of that chimney breast up
to there and everything for two stories
all up after that I'll put clips in. Oh,
that is a
that's some good stacking that if I
don't say if I don't say so myself.
There you go. The rubble's piling up but
not too high. Oh my sweeping brush
is in there buried. Might just be able
to see the handle and my shovel. Forgot
about them. But as you can see, the uh
the board has been pushed out. So, and
the rubble's spilling out to the bottom.
So, it's done its job. Any bit of
surface dust down here. So, we get all
the windows and doors open now. And
we'll get Blitz in this top bit straight
into the skip. And it's a it's a 4
toner, so it's going to be lower than
that. So, we still throw stuff out the
window if it gets in the same place.

plugs. Got another bag to pick up from
main entry. Probably have to get more
bugs cuz I want to put them in every two
courses. And there's going to be about
20 odd courses up there. Two and a half
block wide roughly tied into the the two
cheeks and tied into the external skin.
Two ties every course, but we haven't
picked them up yet or we haven't found
any yet.
Um yeah, there's loads of them sticking
out.
They're medium cavity ties. Loads of
them sticking out.
So, um, yeah, we basically just got to
get this down and restabilize
everything. That's that's coming out.
That's got to come out all the way
through.
I've explained that already, but I need
I need a measurement off the
um log burning technician guy to say
what what um dimensions the hole need to
be.
Uh he's just um because it's a 4 toner,
he's got to drop it there, pick the
eight ton up, put that back down
somewhere else, pick the for up and move
it over there.

you'd be able to lift it up into the
empty,
drop the both back down, and then lift
the full one out of the empty and leave
it as it is. But because they're
different sizes, you can't do that. They
got to be same size skips or bigger.
But yeah, um while that's gets sorted,
I'll get camera set up and get cracking
on this.

And we've cut the clip brick work back.
So, the cavity's open as we always do.
So, we're going to tie into that and tie
into that as soon we get the tower
sorted out.
Um, yeah, all the basically we're ready
to go to to chamber height.
But we need nail hook. I think he's
going to have to put a trimmer on that
joist to carry the 1 2 3 4 five to carry
these five ones that used to sit in the
on the chimney rest. They sat on the
outside skin. This front of the chimney
was a 9 in wall. So, um, and as we go,
we're going to knock all this off. All
those see if I'm put in the right place.
Yeah, we knock all these returns off.
So, the cavity is open all the way
through. We've got insulation, but we'll
speak to the customer, see if they want
that bit insulating cuz the rest of the
cavity isn't.
So, I've got that big pile out from
there.
I always whenever I can get at the
cavity, I always clean it as much as I
can, as far as I can, as far as I can
reach. We've got all the remedial tires.
You've got the original tires down there
which see in good condition. This wall
feels absolutely solid, but it is
rendered. So once we've plugged this
hole again, which this wasn't down on
the price, this this is extra cuz we
didn't know the chimney press went back
to the outside skin. We just assume it
went into the cavity wall. So same as
the other job in old skirt, chimney went
back to the outside skin. So I should
imagine it loses a lot of heat like
that. But anyway, you can see how it
used to go. fireplace here up over there
and then you've got another fireplace
from there up there and then they meet
at the top up in the loft. So this one
go was a hell of a journey. So I'll have
to call this video the anatomy of a
chimney.
That was hard.
So um all the stuff is for us to start
building it back again. And then we need
to find out what size this opening needs
to be for this. So, we got two 1200
concrete lintils for opening up lintils
in in one, two, might need another one.
That's three skins there. We'll see.
Anyway,
uh yeah,
right. Put you back on town. That's what
we get tidied up and then we can bog off
and come back tomorrow.
We're coming straight here tomorrow. No
messing picking stuff up. So, we'll be
at half 7 tomorrow ready to crack on. We

we found a chisel.
Cold chisel. Don't know what that bit
was stuck in, but it's preserved that
bit. The rest of it is rusty to hell.
Little bit of mushroom on the top.
Wonder how long that's been stuck in
that cavity
and who used it last and what they were

Lot of history in that thing.
And I I've got a pluging chisel that I
found in the cavity well over 20 years
ago. And it's still it's still my
favorite pluging chisel.
There it is. Sure. was homemade, but
that came out the cavity in pretty much
the same shape. That is I've had that
I've probably had that longer than Alex.

Great. That that's definitely homemade
by the look of it.
Never know what you're going to find in
them cavities. So, Alex did this side.
Don't know what that is in there, but
it's solid solid brick work like it's
been built like that. And then the other
stuff, it's just not budging. So, we got
everything we can out.
And that was that was a damp spot there.
But the dust that came out wasn't damp.
So,
and this damp corner was the pipe
leaking off the radiator. So, that's
mystery solved. All right. We're all
locked up. We're all [snorts] windows
are all shut. So,
up and get going.
