Video summary
The speaker begins by expressing a balanced but positive reaction to the recent Nintendo Direct, noting that while they didn't experience the intense excitement of previous events, they were ultimately satisfied with the focus on upcoming winter releases. They acknowledge their naturally high expectations, often fueled by memories of past incredible reveals like the initial 3D Mario and Zelda for the Switch, which led them to anticipate a flood of major announcements. However, they appreciate Nintendo's current strategy of playing things closer to the chessboard, avoiding premature leaks and instead concentrating on what is genuinely coming within the next six months. This approach, while perhaps less chaotic than past events, effectively delivered significant surprises that exceeded expectations, particularly regarding the scope and timing of new projects.
The highlight of the presentation was undoubtedly the reveal of *Metroid: Ravenous*, a title that revitalized the franchise after the disappointment surrounding *Metroid Prime 4*. The trailer showcased Samos as a formidable zombie-like entity with a "eat or be eaten" theme, delivering the visceral action fans had been craving. Alongside this major release, Nintendo announced an open-world Kirby game titled *World Beyond*, which surprised many given the creator's mixed history with the series. Despite not being a huge fan of most Kirby titles, the speaker was impressed by the game's ambitious structure, drawing comparisons to *The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild* and promising a distinct adventure that breaks away from traditional level designs.
Beyond these flagship announcements, the Direct featured a robust lineup of other notable updates and releases, including *Persona 4 Golden*, *Final Fantasy Rebirth*, and enhanced versions of *Monster Hunter Wilds* and *Hyrule Warriors*. The speaker also expressed relief over the localization of the upcoming *Yo-kai Watch: Haunted Domain*, a third-party title that had long awaited an English release. Other mentions included improvements to *Switch Sports 2* with new online features and ranking systems, DLC for *Star Fox* focusing on battle modes, and high-quality ports of classic titles like *Resident Evil* games running smoothly on the new hardware. These announcements collectively demonstrated Nintendo's commitment to expanding their library with both beloved franchises and fresh experiences across various genres.
In conclusion, the speaker views this Direct as a "Schrödinger's Direct," meaning it could be loved or hated depending on individual preferences for specific franchises like Metroid or Kirby, but ultimately stands out as a solid showcase of near-future content rather than a distant roadmap into 2027. They argue that Nintendo has successfully managed to balance fan expectations by delivering the specific games people have been waiting for without overpromising on long-term plans that might not materialize. While it may lack the edge-of-your-seat intensity of some past events, the focus on immediate releases and the inclusion of niche favorites like *Mecca Chameleon* and *Xenoblade Chronicles 4* updates make it a worthwhile watch. The event sets the stage for the upcoming winter season, leaving fans eager to see how these titles perform before returning to the waiting game for the February Direct.

I liked it. I didn't love it. It wasn't
It didn't I wasn't yelling and screaming
and jumping up and down like Tom Cruz on
Oprah the whole time, but I liked it. I
think the best thing about that direct
and they told us going into it was it
was going to be games releasing in
winter. So, they could really only pull
from games releasing in the next 6
months or so. It's more of a look at
what's upcoming now. I always have
really high expectations for a direct
and it's because we've had some really
incredible directs in the past. And
sometimes I get in my own head about,
well, we don't know anything about
Nintendo's 2027 plans. We don't know X,
Y, and Z. All we know about is a Zelda
remake, and then a sports game is coming
out, and we have Fire Emblem this month.
There is a lot happening in the next
couple of months, I will say. So, I
start thinking about like surely they're
going to start dropping. Oh, this game's
in development now. We're getting a
Smash game, a 3D Mario game, like the
big franchises that we haven't heard
about yet. I mean, we had an incredible
3D Mario in the first like 6 months of
the Switch One releasing alongside a
full Zelda. So, I think I'm I'm just in
a headsp space of like surely that's
going to happen again. We're going to
get something big pretty soon. And I
think Nintendo are just playing things
closer to the chess now. They're not
announcing things too early like they
did Metroid Prime 4 years too early.
They're very much, hey, this is what's
coming in the next 6 months. But we can
immediately get the coolest thing out
the way first and then the other cool
thing. Oh my god. This is Metroid
Ravenous. OH YES,
DUDE. That was sick. That was sick.
Metroid Ravenous. We did know that a
Metroid Ravenous titled game was coming
because I think it was listed on a a a
website somewhere accidentally and then
pulled down, but it was enough smoke to
cause a fire. I would have been way more
surprised and offguard by this if I
didn't know that. But I had no idea how
sick this was going to look. And it is
the eye cleanse that I needed. It is the
juice fullbody extraction cleanse I
needed after Metroid Prime 4. After they
butchered my girl after they ruined the
game and the story and they didn't
represent Samos as badass as she is.
Here we have Ravenous. She just looks
sick. I mean, she looks cool before she
even becomes a essentially a zombie and
just feasting on all of the enemies.
They show her getting stabbed. And I I'm
I'm guessing essentially what they're
going for is like she dies or gets
reanimated in some way and literally
becomes a zombie type Samos that needs
to feast and eat all of the creatures to
stay alive. Eat or be eaten is the
tagline for this, which is so cool. It's
giving Doom vibes as as just far as the
level of badass. And if you didn't play
Metroid Dread, I do honestly feel it's
the best Metroid maybe ever, but that
we've had in a very long time. And at
this point, even though I'm more of a
fan of the 3D games, or I was, I'm happy
to just commit to the 2D. Just go full
2D with these releases. They're doing
such a better job. Even the title
ravenous with the font and the the the
hot pink. It looks so cool. There's sick
amiios. There's a cool collector's
edition. The box art looks phenomenal.
This was by far my highlight of the
entire direct and could have been the
one more thing. Could have been the
thing that opened it. Could have been
anywhere in this and I would have loved
this direct. It it SO COOL. WA I'M NOW
I'M SURFING ON A SHARK. [laughter] WHICH
REMINDS ME, this video is sponsored by
Surf Shark, which is actually great
because if you've been watching my
videos for a long time now, you'll know
that me and Surf Shark, we go together
like peanut butter and jelly. I really
do love Surf Shark, but that and that's
why I feel bad cuz I feel like I've done
a bad job at telling you guys about all
the features that Surf Shark has to
offer. Cuz you might be thinking, "Oh,
well, they're just a VPN." I mean, yes,
of course, they are a VPN, which is
great because, you know, a VPN encrypts
all of your data in a secure tunnel so
that no prying eyes can get in, which is
great for when you're at home or
especially when you're traveling or
you're on public Wi-Fi like hotels and
airports. But what you might not know is
that Surf Shark also has a built-in
antivirus which I run almost every
single day and has actually saved me in
the past. It it protected my PC while I
was actively being [music] hacked. That
is a true story that we don't have time
for. They can also monitor your
information for data leaks. They can
also protect your emails from fishing
scams. And here's a big one I don't
think I've ever mentioned. Surf Shark
has an ad blocker and a tracker blocker.
So if you're sick of ads, use that. but
don't use it when you watch my channel.
That's the one thing I ask. But then you
have the quality of life stuff that Surf
Shark offers. Like one account can be
used on unlimited devices. Literally,
you can have it on your phone, laptop,
PC, tablet, handheld, whatever. And on
top of all of it, you have your classic
VPN benefits like being able to change
your geoloc and stream videos in
whatever country you want to stream them
in. Get access to that content, get
video games a day early by dropping
yourself somewhere like New Zealand. So,
if you've been thinking about getting a
VPN anyway, why not get the best one
that also has all this other stuff? And
why not get 4 months extra while you're
at it by going to surfshark.com/beamobs?
That's surfshark.com/beamopobs
to get yourself 4 months extra on me.
Oh, you want to know one last little
itty bitty thing? There's a 30-day money
back guarantee. So, on top of
everything, if you're not happy, JUST
GET YOUR MONEY BACK. I DON'T KNOW WHAT
MORE you people want. All right, let's
get back to the video. The other big
thing from Nintendo was this. This is
cool and I'm going to like it. Can I say
that? Can I stress that? I might even
love it. I honestly, for the most part,
do not like Kirby games. I have never
really jailed with them. I played
Forgotten Land because I liked the idea
of a 3D open uh platformer type Kirby
game. And I loved it. I had so much fun
with that game. It was one of my
favorite Switch games. So, I am so open
to this being awesome. It's just I'm
still not a Kirby fan. Even after that
one game, it didn't convince me. But on
on top of that, I think it's why I tried
to explain this when I was live. It's
more that so many of us Nintendo fans
are dying to get some of our franchises
come back. We have to wait so many years
in between these releases. And it feels
like Kirby. You get Kirby every day.
[laughter]
It's like every day you wake up to a new
Kirby. every direct there's at least one
if not five Kirby representations at
some point. I mean this direct alone had
already had Kirby earlier in the event
when they showed new amiiros for air
riders. So we just get a lot of Kirby.
So getting another Kirby for me there's
a little bit of an eye roll of like oh
all right what is it this time and I
will say it looks awesome. So, I know I
know I I know I'm I'm hypocritical, I
guess. I loved Forgotten Land and how
open it was, but I was thinking while I
played that, it would be cool if it was
even more open, if they actually
committed even more to less of like a a
structured level layout and went open
with this. And I think this looks really
good. I also like that the trailer
started in this beginning area. Cutesy,
fun, kind of shows you a little bit of
what's going on. And then Kirby rips
open the dome of the Truman Show life, I
guess, that he's living in here and he
sees the real world beyond, which is
funny actually. I didn't even mean to do
that just then, but the game is called
World Beyond. So, it's literally the
world beyond his game. And it's kind of
implying I think by looking out into
this it it's a very different
geographical like structure and and
these weird cliffs, these structures and
weird like alien things going on. So it
kind I think it's giving like this is
going to be different. This is going to
be a different kind of Kirby setting and
adventure and game. It's it's giving
Breath of the Wild Kirby. It's giving uh
Bowser's Fury Kirby. Uh it's giving
Nintendo. And again, I'm not a huge
Kirby guy, but this is a big
announcement and a big game and uh
unexpected and a surprise, which I think
is my favorite thing about it. There was
no leaks. There was no rumors. I didn't
know this was happening. I was taken off
guard by it. And that to me now is what
Nintendo directs are. You have this long
presentation of things that are
happening and you're not going to like
all of it. And some of it's going to
feel a little bit like a slog, but hey,
you don't have to watch it. And at some
point, Nintendo is going to surprise
you. At some point, Nintendo is going to
give you something cool. All right, now
we can backtrack. Honestly, two or three
more things that I'm really going to
take a look at, and we can breeze
through most of the other stuff. Also, a
lot of it just wasn't new news, but
Persona 4 Revival is coming May 20th.
That is my favorite Persona game. I
started with Golden, so I'm excited for
everybody that gets to play that.
However, you can play my reaction. As
soon as this ends and it glitches and
there's a hint of green, I knew where we
were going. I almost couldn't believe
it. I'm so jealous of people that
haven't played it and get to play that.
Ooh,
that went green for a second there.
Persona 6. That actually gave me chills.
Hopefully, this is a game that releases
day one, day and date with everywhere
else and you can play it first on Switch
2. That's just really cool. I'm very
excited for that game and to see more of
it. Usually when we get a bigger look at
a game we've already seen a couple
times, I zone out a little bit and I'm
like, "Okay, you're just kind of
refreshing us." But I will say this one,
this Switch Sports 2 one, I'm glad they
did this because I was not convinced on
this game. I played the first Switch
Sports. It was definitely like a one
week banger where you messed around with
the mini games for for a week or so. You
tried to play online with your friends
and then realized how restrictive it
was. Only like three of the games could
actually be played online with more than
two people. The bowling had like 20
people, but you could only play online
with like eight people and then the rest
was NPCs. Like it was so restrictive and
it was only six mini games really. And
then they released DLC over the next
several years, but it released too slow
and too infrequently for me to pick it
back up again. This is releasing with a
ton of extra games. So, I liked that
concept alone, but still thought I would
probably put put it down after a week
because there's not much else to do.
This deeper look showed us that the
world is open for you to explore. You
can just fly around it, roam around it.
But more than this Mario Kart world,
adjacent offline play in the world,
there's also this ranking system against
the NPC characters in the game. So,
there's like a a ladder and you It's
almost like a single player mode where
you can try and beat them all at their
best sports and become the best of
everything on the island. And I like
that. It just gives you something to do.
It gives you something to like a
gameplay mode to play around with.
Island Crown when you're not playing
online or you're not playing just the
mini games. They really do seem like
they put a lot more work into this one
and it's a lot more full of a game on
launch. I still think it's probably
going to be a couple week one and done
for me, but I'm more looking forward to
it now than I was before. And I think
finally the last thing that really made
me pop and jump out of my well I was
standing so I didn't really jump out of
anything was a Yo-kai Watch localization
for a new game in development. Finally.
I didn't think it was ever going to
happen. It's a lot like Pokémon but also
very different to Pokémon. And and if
you like Pokémon, you might like this.
And if you don't like Pokémon, but you
want to like it, you might like this. It
does a lot of really cool concepts and
changes. There's a bit of a darker theme
to it. And you collect Yo-kai ghosts and
and spookies, but we but they haven't
been getting localized. I mean, the
fourth game is on Switch, but only in
Japan. And here is an announcement of
this Yo-kai Watch 2 Haunted Domain being
developed for Switch. And I think that's
fantastic. This was a this was big pop
for I was very excited for this. This
might be my favorite like third-p partyy
announcement of the whole thing. All
right, and then we can go back to the
start and we can uh skim through some
things that are cool. It opened with I
think our first look at Monster Hunter
Wild's gameplay. We knew it was
happening, but this is the game running
on Switch 2. Definitely a 30 framer, but
looks fantastic. I think it looks really
good. This is a perfect game to play on
the Switch 2. just pick up and do a
couple monster hunts. Then our first
gameplay look at Final Fantasy
Revelation, which again, Square Enix and
Capcom are both doing some incredible
work on this console. And even though we
knew this was happening, it's just cool
to see this same day and date as
everywhere else. April 8th, brand new
Final Fantasy game launching on Switch 2
looking like this. Really cool. Weirdly,
Hyrule Warriors is getting an update,
and we didn't see that in yesterday's
direct, but this is a game that sorely
needs the Switch to enhancement to make
the frame rates workable, but to even
add more enemies on the screen and clear
up those visuals. I mean, you see the
side by side right there, and it's a
night and day difference. I preferred
this game a lot over the new age of
imprisonment, so I might play that
again. Mecca Chameleon was a twist I did
not see coming. This is a Steam game
that has sold like 10 million copies. It
was a It was a random friend slop hit. I
played it with my friend Bob and I love
it. It's really fun. If you haven't seen
it before, go watch some like people
play it, some gameplay online or just
wait for it to come to Switch. I know
how it looks. It looks cheap. It looks
rigid. It's so much fun. It's so good.
Piccopia is getting another DLC pack. I
think this would be more exciting if it
was more than just accessories, but this
is a midway DLC pack in between the last
big expansion and the next big
expansion. Does look cute though. My
favorite part of the new Star Fox game
is the multiplayer. I thought the battle
mode was fire, but it was too limited.
There was only a couple of different
maps you could play on. There wasn't
many modes. And I said this when the
game launched. If that was more
expansive, I could have seen that
actually going somewhere. There's a DLC
free update for the game and it's all
focused on the battle mode, which for me
is great news. I don't know how you guys
feel about the battle mode. I wish this
was all there at launch cuz now you're
kind of asking people to go back to a
game they probably already moved on
from, but I will be going back and
playing this and playing the new modes.
I really did enjoy the battle mode. We
see Witcher 3 remastered gameplay on
Switch 2. We see Kingdom Come Delivery
2. Kingdom Come on Switch One might be
the best looking Switch port. It ran
terribly. They really prioritized
visuals, but it looked phenomenal, and
this looks no different. This they looks
like they are pushing the Switch 2 to
its limit. Interested to see the frame
rates on this one. I hate to gloss past
this Professor Leighton game. It just
isn't one of my favorite. I've never
played one and I'm not super in. I love
the style of it and the vibe of it, but
it's I will give it a shot. I don't
think I'm going to fall in love with it,
but we will see. Pikman is getting a
Switch to treatment. I love this game,
but I've already finished it. So, for
me, I wasn't really super invested in
that. The last the back end of the 15
minutes was a lot of uh interesting
titles and and smaller experiences. This
one is playable in handheld mode only
which I find interesting. There's a new
mode added to Xenolade that I don't
really care about this mode to be
honest, but I will be playing the game
again. And there's a new character which
is interesting. This can's one, Karin's
one where you're climbing a mountain is
probably for me the most interesting
random other experience I saw that I
wasn't expecting in this event just
because I like that there's a story and
there's mystery and you need to try and
survive and looks like you have to hunt
as well and and try and eat food and
there's there's characters to meet and
places to explore as well as this
intricate climbing mechanic that looks
terrifying. I will check this one out.
I'm actually very interested in that.
Resident Evils 2, 3, and 4 with 7, 8,
and 9 running so well on the system. I 9
was running in 60 fps. These are going
to be fantastic ports. And if you
haven't played these games, I mean, I
have, and I might replay them. Mario
Kart did get DLC, but a smaller free
DLC. There's this cute little Easter egg
type mode where you can do the old
courses from Super Nintendo. And then
there's also a new knockout tour path,
which I would rather they add new tracks
and maps rather than adding a new path
between the old tracks and maps. I love
that there's free content and it's an
expensive game, so it should have some
free content. I just wish it was a bit
more substantial. I made a bold claim on
the stream today when I saw this game. I
feel like the 2D HD 3D games, they've
become the new farming sim. You're
guaranteed to see at least one every
single time. And it's all blending
together for me. They're all on my
backlog. I They all They're all the
same. Then we got a really awkward
sizzle reel with just really horrible
music that showed us like 007, which
this is the first time I believe we're
seeing some of the gameplay raw docked
on our screen. We saw some gameplay come
out at Gamescom, but not this clean. The
game looks really good running on
Switch. I mean, honestly, unbelievably
good running on Switch 2. Then Far Cry 3
of all the Far Cries, and it just keeps
going. It just keeps going through a
bunch of games all the way to Guardians
of the Galaxy, which if you haven't
played Guardians of the Galaxy that was
an underrated game that I really enjoyed
that didn't sell enough and so there's
never going to be anymore, but it was
really good. And that is this Nintendo
Direct. I definitely would not put it in
the this could have been an email
category like some people are. I think
if you're a Kirby fan, obviously the I
think that's another thing too is
Nintendo has so many big fandoms within
itself. You can watch this as a Nintendo
fan and it be the best direct ever. I
mean, you get a Kirby, you get a Metroid
that those could be your two biggest
franchises and you and it's in and you
don't even understand how anyone could
be disappointed. Or you could not really
like Metroid Dread or Metroid games,
which makes sense. It's a smaller niche.
You know, Metroid Dread sold 3 million,
which is like the bestselling Metroid
game. So, it's not like everyone's not
playing it, right? And then not
everyone's into Kirby. So, it could also
be boring. It could be both. And what
I'm realizing is it's a Schroing is
direct. You can love it, you can hate
it. I don't think it was bad. I think
what it did is it focused on games
coming out in the next 6 months and it
showed us what's upcoming and there's a
lot of really fun great stuff in there.
It just wasn't a super on the edge of
your seat riveting exciting screaming
every second direct like we've had
before that definitely sets the tone and
sets the standard. And I think there's
also just so many things that we've been
wanting and waiting for. You know,
there's so many things that people want
to see every time that get rolled over
every time and then we never see it,
right? I think at this point we've we've
been left too long with too many wants,
needs, and expectations that keep
rolling over that we keep putting on the
next direct when in reality it's just a
showcase of things that are coming out
soon. And also, hey, look, Metroid
Ravenous and a brand new openw world
Kirby game. Sick. Well, that's
September. So, now we go back into the
hibernation of waiting for the February
Direct. I think I I'll see you guys
then. By the end of tomorrow, once
everything has calmed down, my podcast
at 7:00 p.m. Nintendo will dive into
everything, the Zelda Direct, this
Direct, the fallout of everything, the
extra stuff that wasn't talked about,
anything that came out of the treehouse.
So, if you want to see that, I'll leave
links down below. Come check it out.
Like, comment, and subscribe. Let me
know what you thought of this direct.
You can think it was bad. You can think
it was good. All I care about is that
you think something and you think it for
yourself.
