Team Yap: The Pokémon Podcast - Episode 29 - LEGOs, TCG, and Video Games, Oh My!
Watch on YouTubeVideo summary
In Episode 29 of the Team Yap Pokémon podcast, hosts Emily Brewer and Chris Lavallet kick off the discussion by briefly acknowledging their upcoming milestone of thirty episodes before diving into the latest news from the world of Pokémon GO. They highlight recent updates to Mega Evolution raids, noting that standard four-star raids are now accessible without the stringent requirements previously needed for Super Mega Raids, featuring powerful forms like Mega Scarmory, Mega Dragonite, and Mega Latios. The conversation also touches on upcoming events such as the Hundo Mewtwo raid and the recently announced but unreleased Mega Staraptor. Additionally, the hosts address the new "Explorer Gadget" feature designed for auto-catching Pokémon while using other phone functions, though they express skepticism regarding its battery efficiency and effectiveness compared to dedicated devices like the Poké Ball Plus, which is also facing discontinuation alongside support for Pokémon Sleep.
The episode then shifts focus to a major announcement for *Pokémon: The Movie – Wild Card*, a film centered on the Trading Card Game set to release in 2027 and animated by Clover Works. Set in a universe where the card game coexists with real Pokémon, the plot may feature Mimikyu, prompting the hosts to speculate on how the animation will depict TCG battles, drawing parallels to *Demon Slayer* and considering visual adaptations of rules like energy locks or deck shuffling. The discussion extends to the LEGO community, where the hosts review new sets including the Rayquaza and the now-unavailable Poké Ball set, while sharing an anecdote about discovering a Charizard, Bulbasaur, and Blastoise set in a house for sale. They also mention other available sets like Cubone and Ditto Squirtle, as well as smart brick-compatible versions featuring Mewtwo and Joltik, before celebrating their recent success in acquiring original first edition Jungle Set Cubone cards at VGA Vermont Gaming Academy.
Beyond the news segments, the hosts engage in a personal discussion about their own TCG collections and acquisition strategies. One host shares how he added a hollow Cubone promo card from a McDonald's promotion to his existing collection of three Cubones, which he stores in magnetic cases, while also acquiring a World 2026 Pikachu promotional card from Barnes & Noble and planning to purchase sleeves for his world cards. The other host showcases items from his collection, including Gen 4 starters like Turwig, Drifloon, and Bulbasaur, with suggestions made to display these in shadow boxes. Their conversation also reflects on past gifts exchanged between them, such as a graded Cubone token from a board game and a Pokémon Trainer ID item obtained at an event in Lake George, illustrating the deep camaraderie and shared passion that defines their podcast dynamic.
The final portion of the episode transitions into video game topics, where one host discusses playing *Pokémon XD: Gale of Darkness* on the Switch 2 via emulation, noting the limited roster and the delayed availability of Marowak until near the end of the game. He also mentions his attempt at a type Nuzlocke run in *Pokémon Violet*, adding another layer of variety to their gaming discussions. As they wrap up this informal "yapping" segment without prepared notes, the hosts tease future plans for Episode 30 and share a lighthearted joke about eagerly waiting for the TCG movie scheduled for late 2027, effectively concluding an episode that balanced current industry news with personal collection updates and gaming adventures.

Hey,
hey, hey, hey, hey,
Hello everyone and welcome back to Team
Yap the Pokemon podcast. I am your host
Emily Brewer
>> and I'm your co-host Chris Lavallet
>> and this is episode 29 of Team Yap the
Pokemon podcast. Kind of hard to
believe. I was just thinking about this
before we started. Episode 30 is next.
So, we have to do um either something
super exciting or a visual episode or
both.
>> Yeah, we'll have to figure something
out. I mean, um who knows? Maybe chance
for recording some things in the future.
I'm trying to think of some things that
we could potentially do. There's sky's
is the limit apart from, you know, being
limited by remote access, but otherwise
>> apart from the distance and zoom, but
you know, we'll figure something out.
>> Apart from limitations, the sky's is the
limit. Yeah.
>> Well, from the ceiling, I don't I uh if
I have the right equipment, like I maybe
we could I could like screen we could do
another game thing and screen record
something, but
>> put some thought into it and talk to
Jordan and figure that out. But either
way, stay tuned for a very exciting 30th
episode.
>> We won't we won't miss out on making
making this something special.
>> Exactly. But this is episode 29. We
can't keep talking about episode 30.
>> That's right. We got to we got to yap
about
>> this is this episode and uh you know
it's been a minute since we've had just
a proper
>> yap about news and what's going on. Uh
cuz before we came back to things with
uh going back to the movies.
>> We did Celibby. And you know what's
funny about our movie episodes is we
always like end up like yapping in the
beginning for like too long and then we
don't have enough time to
>> and then we have to like rush through. I
feel so rushed to get through any of my
notes that I have for the movie and it's
just like I feel like I didn't do this
thing justice, which is like kind of how
I feel about last episode. Like I always
think we do a great episode,
>> but I personally I would have
>> I would have liked to talk about the
movie for longer. I we have a time
limit.
>> We need to we need to block out more
time for the movie episodes or be really
disciplined and not yap in the
beginning.
>> Well, it's fine. And what we'll do is
we'll just when we finish off the main
timeline of the Pokemon movies, we do
one episode where we rank them all.
>> Ooh, like the S tier, A tier.
>> Yeah.
>> Yep. We'll have to do that.
>> Stay tuned, folks.
>> Um,
>> well, we've got quite a I, you know,
we've got a decent amount of news to
talk about. Although Chris and I were
just discussing before the uh episode
started that
>> we've come across quite a bit of news on
our timelines that we were both like,
"Oh man, this would be perfect for the
YAP." and then neither of us took note
of it or remembered what
>> just both of us being way too busy to
dive in depth onto these things. So, you
know, casual team yap, we'll be yapping
given our thoughts on the surface level
stuff that we've got and then maybe
diving deep into some things that we
feel more passionate on.
>> Sure. Well, I think we might as well
start with Pokemon Go. I feel like
that's there's some interesting things
that have happened in there that are
>> fresh in our minds and definitely having
not just done a raid right before the
recording of this podcast.
>> We did do a raid right before and you
know what I'm sorry that you didn't get
to experience that with us. Um so that
being said it was a mega scarmmorary.
What I I personally have not been
playing Pokémon Go that much. Um I
should be playing this week because of
the event that's going on and I probably
will now. But what have I what have I
missed out on? Like what what are the
new all of the new megas that are in the
game?
>> So, right now, from my knowledge, again,
like I said, I haven't looked fully into
it, so I don't have all the deets, but
uh they seem to be rotating through the
new megas that they added in in Legend
ZA
>> and then recently added into Pokémon Go
through the new super mega raids.
>> They seem to be rotating some of them
through uh a regular raid cycle. So, um,
having not done a super mega raid, I
don't know exactly how it goes, but I've
been told it's like you have a certain
amount of people, you have a certain
amount of people join in with mega
evolved Pokemon, and that uh, like
breaks a shield that the raid boss has,
>> um, which allows you to do more damage,
too.
>> I remember I have done those before.
>> Yeah, I've I've never done one myself,
but um, the raids in rotation right now
are not like that. They are just your
standard four-star mega evolution raids.
You just go in with however many people
you have and beat it. We just beat it
with three people, two one person being
remote. Um, so not too difficult. I uh
would imagine super mega raids are much
much more difficult.
Um,
>> yeah, if I recall correctly, like I
there was a super mega raid that I did
that like we even with enough people and
then some. Maybe it wasn't and then
some. I think maybe like the base amount
>> we didn't get it. So, um it it's it's
kind of nice that they have dropped that
requirement and it makes it
>> it certainly makes them more accessible.
>> Yes. Um
>> very much so. Cuz like before this I had
never had a Mega Dragonite and just the
other day we did two Mega Dragonite
raids here at the office and
>> now I've got uh now I've got the ability
to get one. I have not mega evolved one
yet because I think I want to mega
evolve my shiny one, but I also got a
Dragonite with a cool background. So,
>> oh, nice.
>> Um,
>> tough decision.
>> I do kind of want that blue shiny
dragonite, so I might have to do that.
>> Uh,
>> it's hard. I I almost always will choose
the shiny, but that's
>> that's me, the shiny fiend.
>> Uh, yeah, it's fair. Makes sense. Um, so
yeah, they had added in, what have they
added in all at this point? It was Mega
Dragonite was running the other day.
I can't remember if any of the other new
Oh, uh, Mega Victory Bell was also
running.
Okay.
>> The mega I don't know if it was both
Les, but either one of or both of Latios
Latios as a mega evolution. So, it was
like a six-star raid.
>> Yep.
>> We weren't doing that.
>> No. Um
>> you need more than three or four people
for that.
>> Not a not a new ZA mega, but still a
cool thing that they were running. Uh
and then of course just today there's
Mega Scarmmory in the raids. I'm sure
there's going to be other ones
available. I am now thinking about it. I
don't know if it was recently featured
in a super mega raid day, so maybe it'll
be part of this rotation. I really want
a mega star me.
>> So, is that not in the that hasn't been
officially added into the Pokémon Go
yet?
>> I think it is in Pokémon Go. It did just
have a mega raid day.
>> Oh. Oh, you just you literally
>> a week or two ago. Yeah,
>> it's all good,
>> you know.
>> It's all good.
>> That one is cool. I do like him.
>> Yes, I He's just a silly guy. I just
want my silly walking star. Um,
would love that. I
I believe uh Mega Star Raid Day was
actually just announced, so that one's
probably not in the rotation right now.
I don't think that's in the game yet.
>> Um, which is unfortunate. That would be
a really cool one to get. Love me. Mega
Mega Starraptor.
>> And I'm not the only one that got this
vibe, but like it just gives me the
vibes of a uh a Scarlet Paradox
Staraptor.
I hope
>> just a much more primitive
savage looking Starraptor.
>> Let me look him up. Mega Starraptor.
>> I would say you would know if you played
the game, but you wouldn't cuz it's in
the DLC.
>> Oo.
>> Yeah, look at that.
>> Oh yeah, I like him.
>> And that's a flying fighting type.
>> September 19th. Okay.
>> Okay, gotcha.
>> Good to know. Good to know if it's if
I'm able to do a super mega raid. We'll
see.
>> Um you I mean the only limitation of
that raid app that I was talking about
is like I mean
>> well I guess it's not a limitation
because you can host and join raids.
>> Mhm.
>> But the hosting can kind of be a pain in
the butt. Um because then you have all
these people adding you and then you
need to add them and then you need to
invite them and there's a time limit and
this and that and so joining is much
easier but then you obviously have to
use a remote raid pass,
>> right? Of course. But it like I mean the
Pokemon Go community in Burlington was
always so robust. I'm sure that there
are still big groups that go around and
do stuff.
>> I'm sure it's just a matter of like I
got to get engaged with those systems
and Yeah, exactly.
>> Yeah. But
>> um well that's exciting. I um
>> like I said, I haven't been playing
Pokemon Go a lot lately. I did tune in
>> um partially because I wanted to make
sure I secured that Hundo Mewtwo.
>> Oh, yep. Yep, I've got that.
>> I did get that. I will say my cousin um
texted me and she excited and was like,
"Oh my god, look what I just got." And I
was like I was like, "Dude, that's so
cool." And I did not have the heart to
say everybody gets a hundo.
>> Oh, okay. I thought you were about to
say that they got the shiny. I'm like
>> a shiny. No. And I wasn't I wasn't lucky
enough to get the shiny either cuz I
actually don't have a shiny Mewtwo at
all.
>> At all.
>> At all. I know. And I have like a
ton of Mewtwos, too.
>> Well, this weekend is your chance to do
it. They're running Mewtwo X and Y in
raids uh Saturday, Sunday. Yep.
>> Okay, good to know.
>> Uh and then I I don't know if it's a
paid thing, but coming up there's
another chance at the armored Mewtwo.
>> What?
>> Yep.
I don't know if it's just a paid
research, but
>> it'll probably be paid.
>> Probably.
>> Knowing um Well, now it's not Niantic.
knowing Scopley. Um
>> I think Scopy had a much more checkered
past in terms of the
uh microtransactions and all that. I I
could be wrong, but I believe I remember
hearing that around the time of the
acquisition,
>> but that's not what this episode's
about.
>> That is not what this episode's about.
Um we will not we will not complain
about that. Um
>> nothing but positivity around here.
>> What' you say?
>> Nothing but positivity around here.
>> Yeah. No, no negativity. Please don't
please don't strike us. Please don't um
do anything bad to us because we will
speak nothing but good things about you.
Scopably, please. I'm sorry. Please
don't send the CIA on us.
>> Never been a negative thing said on this
show and it's not about to start now. I
feel like that's one of the things I
wanted to talk about is like I feel like
I got a YouTube video recommended to me
about how Pokemon Go
was is and I knew this like I knew this
>> but I never like really thought about it
because like and now I don't have the
actual information but like Pokémon Go
was used to like
>> train
AI and like fun like and I'd heard a
little bit for like
>> war or something I don't I like
basically the scanning of everything.
>> It It was like the scanning of your like
the AR scanning
>> of your actual surroundings
>> was like building a database of all this
information of like cities and towns and
stuff
and like something about the founder of
Pokemon Go or like the guy who created
it like used to work for Google or
something and then he worked for I don't
know. I'm gonna have to do more re now
that I'm like so mad that I didn't think
of this until now because that is like
such a rabbit hole. We can talk about
that. And
>> hey, now we've got a nice little juicy
thread to follow through to the next
episode.
>> That would be a good one to like do some
deep dive research on our own and like
do an actual like
kind of like not necessarily like a
video essay, but like have some
discussion on it. I feel like that would
be cool.
>> Yeah. Yeah. Um,
but
I also because I haven't played Pokémon
Go, I turned it on the other day and I
was like, "What's this thing that's like
flashing in the corner that looks like a
Pokemon Go Plus?"
>> Your um
>> my Explorer gadget.
>> Thank you. That's what it's called.
>> Have you used it yet? I haven't cuz I
have
>> I haven't because it's still like it's
the same thing as um
it's it's like Adventure Sync. It's it's
asking you to turn on your your
background functions and all that which
I just don't I still just have not
messed with on my phone really and
haven't been bothered to. Um
>> is it cuz you're worried about like the
processing power or something or
>> that pretty much was my concern was like
processing power battery. Yeah, don't
blame you because I'm pretty sure it
does eat at your battery and stuff like
that like crazy
>> because even worse with the Explorer
gadget I've seen or I've heard is that
you have to still have your phone open
like you just have the game on either in
the background or off and you're doing
other stuff on your phone and then it
will like catch and spin for you.
>> At least with the plus and like like
even the official plus and the the um
unofficial ones, you could have your
screen turned off,
>> right? You can have your phone off.
>> That's kind of like the draw and like
whole point of something like that. Like
if I have to have my app open, why am I
autocatching? Like
>> silliness. I'm
>> It's a free thing. So like fine
>> and play with it and see how see how
successful it is. I'd be curious to see
what the success rate of catches is with
that versus my what my experience has
been with a Pokemon Plus or Poke
whatever plus
>> from uh discussing with a mutual friend
of ours and their experience with it.
Not great. Like seemingly less than
likely of a regular Pokeball throw. And
it only uses your regular Pokeballs.
Like if if you run out, it stops.
>> But it will also spin stops for you. So,
it's getting those balls back.
>> Say that last part again. Do you get
those? You don't.
>> Yeah. So, it'll throw your regular
Pokéballs, but it also spins stops as
you go by. So, it'll be getting those
back at least,
>> potentially.
>> But then again, it's like if your game
has to be open,
>> right? Well, that's the thing I'm not
100% sure of. Either way, if your game
has to be open or your your phone has to
be open, you have to be doing something
else on your phone,
>> right? I can't remember if the app has
to be open in the background or not, but
either way,
>> I So, it's like, okay, like I'm guess
I'm just going to like walk and like be
on Facebook then, I guess, and just
>> let me just walk down the sidewalk and
stare down at my phone.
>> I want to play Pokémon Go like
>> and I've walked face first into a light
pole. I've walked directly into another
person.
>> Yep. Yep.
Oh my god. Okay, another seemingly
useless feature rolled out, but okay.
>> But yeah, it's fine. and weird uh
interesting bit about the roll out. It
seems like with the
I guess this is just a soft launch of
it. Um your attempts for spins and
Pokeballs is based on your level.
>> That's right. So mine So that's why like
I opened mine.
>> So like I have 59 of each
>> and I have 69. And I
>> Nice. Actually, I actually screenshotted
it and sent it to one of my other
buddies cuz he's been playing Pokémon Go
a lot lately. Um cuz his car his car
broke and so he's been walking and
taking the bus.
>> He's like, "Oh my god, taking the bus is
actually kind of great to play Pokémon
Go."
>> Yeah.
>> Welcome to the meta.
>> Yep. Yep.
>> How do you think I carry all of our like
spin 150 Pokéstop uh team challenges?
>> Say that again. How do you think I
managed to carry the spin 150 Pokéstop
team challenges?
>> Yeah, party challenge.
>> True. There are perks to riding the bus,
but not in Burlington, Vermont. I'd say
>> that is also true.
>> Uh someone
>> when I come up this weekend, we're going
to have to talk about the uh the Maple
and Pine intersection.
>> Oh, the traffic lights.
>> No, I don't even want to think about it.
>> Brace yourself for that.
But yeah, this explore gadget thing, I
open it up. I'm like, why is my limit
69? I was like, why would they ever
choose that number and it's because I'm
level 69.
>> It was just so funny. I think that's how
I found out about it, too, is like
somebody made the same kind of post of
like, why do I have this many attempts
and my friend has like 80 or something
like that? And the person who posted had
like 69 attempts.
>> That's so funny.
>> Yeah.
>> Um, and then Yeah. No, it makes sense
that it's level based. Um, so yeah, I'm
curious to check that out and see what
happens with that and what my experience
is with that, but
>> don't foresee myself using that very
much. I will say my Pokeball Plus,
Pokey, whatever Plus, I have no idea
where that is.
>> Um, so clearly I have not used that in a
long time, but didn't they
>> Oh,
>> stopped supporting them or what's the
deal with that?
>> We cut out for a bit there. We're back,
but we lost you for a second.
>> What's the last thing you heard from me?
>> Uh,
>> can you hear me?
>> You Yeah, I can hear you now. It's just
you kind of froze up.
>> What was the last thing you heard me
say?
>> It was about your Pokeball your your
Pokeball Plus and it disappearing and
that was about it. You froze.
>> Um, didn't they discontinue like it or
are they still selling it?
>> I don't know. Uh,
well, I guess that was a thing before
Scopely. So wouldn't Scopi have to pick
up?
>> I'll have to look into that cuz it's
like
>> selling that
>> the ch like I don't know. I I just like
the constant changing and the constant
like this and that. Like I get that you
have to like
>> update things and bring new things in
and discontinue old things, but like it
it gets to a point where it's like, man,
just stop.
>> My immediate
guess would be it's probably
discontinued.
>> Yeah.
But I'm unsure.
>> Yeah, I'll have to look into it.
>> Given I'm I'm sure you can probably find
them online on eBay for however stupid
amounts of money because of the Didn't
one of them have a Pokemon attached to
it that you could get?
>> Oh, I don't remember that.
>> Wasn't there something with like a
Snorlax with a cap or something?
>> Um Oh, or Pokemon Sleep.
>> No, no, yes, that's Pokemon Sleep. I'm
uh the talking about now. Yes, because
They released it partially for Pokemon
Sleep. I remember cuz I used to use it
for Pokemon Sleep and I have not played
that game in a long time. I do get ads
for it occasionally and I'm like, "Oh,
maybe I should do that." And no, no, no.
>> I've I've never touched Pokemon Sleep.
It's never really been my thing. My
phone's already at risk of dying when I
>> lay it next to me at night, so like I
>> Yeah. No, I wouldn't I wouldn't go there
with it. Um,
well, one thing I'm interested in
talking about that I only just found out
when I looked it up when I looked up
Pokemon news yesterday so we could have
something to talk about um is the um
Pokemon uh trading card game movie.
>> Yes. I that was um
just unexpected. I did not think that we
would get a a TCG movie. Um,
>> when did they announce
>> wild card?
>> Just uh
Oh, I'm trying to remember cuz I
What was that for? Right. It came in
with a slew of announcements one night I
saw getting in on my phone. Um,
>> it wasn't like a Pokemon presents or
anything, was it?
>> No, I can't remember what it was. I
don't think it was a
>> I don't think it was a specific
showcase. They might have uh Oh. Well,
it might have been announcements for
Worlds.
>> Oh,
>> cuz Worlds either is still going or was
still going.
>> That That would make sense. Uh
particularly because of trading card
game.
>> Yes. Oh. Oh, yes.
>> Um
>> um
>> so
>> I would love to know your initial
thoughts on it.
>> I only barely saw the initial like
teaser where you get the little like
mimicu on the screen and then it cuts to
>> this guy in a hood and then it's
>> back and forth. Are we going to send
people to the shadow realm? Is that
>> looks cool. I just say it looks
so
>> I will say it does look interesting. I'm
curious how much how far cool animation
is going to go for a card game.
>> Yeah.
>> Movie.
>> Well, the curious about what they're
going to do for me is this. It's like,
okay, we're we are obviously like in a
universe. Well, maybe obviously is not
the right word, but we It seems to be
that we are in a universe where Pokemon
exist outside of the cards,
>> but we still have the card game
>> because the Mimikyu is there. So, why do
we have the card game? And why are we
playing the card game in a universe with
Pokemon? I wonder if they're going to do
just cuz so like uh Demon Slayer, that
anime. I don't know if you've seen any
clips from it or familiar with it at
all,
>> but
>> it's I'm trying to find something for
more synopsis on this Pokemon Wild Card
thing. Um,
Demon Slayer. Uh, one big thing about
all of the fights is a lot of the
characters have elemental effects coming
off of their attacks like you like,
>> uh, fire, water, lightning. That is all
purely for the audience.
>> So, like in universe, there is no
elements or anything coming off of their
weapons, stuff like that. I wonder if
this is going to be like a we're just
sitting down at a table playing a card
game, but the audience gets to see a
like animated representation of an
actual battle between these Pokemon.
>> Yeah. Okay,
>> that I could see.
>> I can see that, too.
>> But I
>> I don't know if I would like that more
or less than like we're playing cards
and Pokemon also exist. I feel like I
would like it more.
>> Yeah,
>> but the animation looks So, go ahead.
Sorry, just you would like it more if it
was Pokemon existing and the card game
going on
>> the other way around where if it's if
it's just a representation of you would
like that card,
>> but also I'm a sucker for just the
Pokemon world in general and so like I
feel like
>> first movie in seven years.
>> Okay, that was I remember seeing
something but I didn't realize it was
seven years.
>> I'm reading through
>> a long time.
>> I'm reading through a uh and this is one
of very few times I'll ever say this.
Shout out to IGN. Uh, reading an IGN
article
and they have it right here. It's in
quotes. For the first time in seven
years, new Pokemon movie is on its way.
>> 7 years is a very long time.
>> Yeah. Uh, let's see. During the
Yeah. ceremony. So, yes, this is during
Worlds. Uh, probably closing ceremony, I
would take it.
>> Oh my god. Imagine being at Worlds and
you like see this announced. Oh my god,
I'd lose my freaking mind. Uh, Pokemon
cards animation will be done by
animation done by Clover Works, who've
done My Dressup Darling and Bochi the
Rock. Neither of those I've watched,
although I've seen clips from My Dress
Up Darling. It's really good animation.
>> Okay.
>> Uh,
>> even just from the little teaser that I
saw, I was like, "Oh, this is hype. I'm
ready for this."
>> Directed by Katsuhiko Kit Kit
and character designs by Ami Hayashi.
movie teaser said it's set to release
starting in 2027 and beyond.
>> Yeah, that's the other part. I'm like,
what is what does that mean? Like this
is another whole universe that they're
trying to start.
>> Seeing I could see that. I I could very
Well, I mean, yeah, cuz
I mean this guy's outfit is super
>> Well, it's very mimicuy. So, I mean,
it's still mascot. Yeah.
I think I had seen something, but it
might have just been a Twitter post
speculating on what it was going to be.
I thought I had seen something about
somebody saying it was a
a movie about the underground world of
the TCG, which I not sure fully what
that means, but it to me read as like a
somewhat darker movie, which I'm not
sure how they would do with this, but
I'd be interested to see that if that is
the case. like a Pokemon like fighting
ring thing like in that detective movie.
Like that's what I
>> But as far as I know, but as far as I
know, that's not an official
uh that's that's not
something officially that's come out
about it. That that I think that might
be speculation type thing.
>> I'd be very interested in that.
Regardless, I'm very interested to see
what comes of this cuz that teaser just
looks really neat.
Um, well I
>> a movie around the TCG like they've
never done I think this the first of any
animation anything for the TCG outside
of the TCG itself
>> or the the outside of the the TCG the
old card game for the Game Boy.
>> Sure.
>> Yeah. Well, I think that this is like
really incredibly like creative.
>> Uh Oh, yeah. I think it's a I think it's
a cool move for them. I think playing
off of
>> the hype of the cards. Do you think
we'll get Dan Green?
>> Do we want Dan Green?
>> I want Dan Green.
>> If you're going to put Yu-Gi-Oh on my
Pokemon, have it be a card game. Damn
it.
>> That is true. Fair enough. So,
>> I want him to be the antagonist of this
movie.
>> Yeah, I would be surprised. Or I
wouldn't be surprised if somebody like
started a petition that was like, "Put
Dan Green in the movie."
>> Just have the antagonist wear the same
iron mask. Yeah,
>> that the Marauder has. It's got like a
Team Rocket deck.
>> I I'm very curious to see where they
take this and like how they like what
the kind of like um plot is going to be.
Like who's the antagonist? Like are
there multiple like what's the you know
problem in the movie? Like I just there
are so many like cool ways that I think
they could go with it.
>> And I love the like mimicu idea.
>> Yeah. And which makes me seem like makes
it seem like it's going to be really up
your alley like with like some ghosty
type things.
>> Oh, for sure. And I'm I'm hoping so. I
hope our protagonist here uses a whole
slew of ghosts for his deck.
>> That would be awesome
>> because that's my that's my guess. It's
probably uh going around because it's a
Mimikyu deck that he uses would be my
guess.
>> Mhm.
>> I'm curious how that runs.
>> Yeah. I don't know. I'm curious how the
rules are going to translate. Like cuz
you know, old school Yu-Gi-Oh when it
was at its best.
>> Yeah.
the rules.
>> I'm going to summon my blue eyes and
you're going to deal with it. I'm going
to summon three blue eyes in one turn
and fusion summon my dragon. Deal with
it.
>> Um,
>> see, I like know nothing about Yu-Gi-Oh.
So,
>> cuz like I saw a funny tweet like are
they going to get energy locked for
three turns? Are they going to like, you
know, round one? Uh, actually I don't
know if you can win in one round in
Pokemon like you can in Yu-Gi-Oh because
of how the prizes work, but I I don't
know. I'm very curious how the rules are
>> going to represent energy. Like are they
and if the if it's the Pokemon just like
battling like they're not actually
battling that's just for our audience.
Like are they like tired and they can't
do the thing? Like you know there's just
so many different like ways that they
could go about portraying it that you
know how to begin like speculating. That
would be more of why I'd be interested
to see the um the uh the just framing
the Pokemon battle for the audience
because I'd be very curious to see how
the other cards that they play actually
imp they implement it into
an animated Pokemon battle like that
>> trainers and stuff
>> like with train using a trainer card to
search your deck for another card like
what's going to happen? I I don't know.
I guess I guess in some ways it really
seems not that interesting at all when
they say that. Okay, the more we talk
about this, like
>> how are they going to show off shuffling
through my deck to draw an extra card?
Like,
>> oh my god.
>> Well, I should have to wait and find
out. But, um, there this movie could be
either really really good or really
really bad.
>> Yeah, I'm I'm frankly on that boat now.
It's like it Yeah,
>> but it hoping by like the animation
quality, I'm hoping it's going to be
really really good. Yes, I'm I'm sure
regardless it's going to look great.
>> And if they're advertising it as and
beyond, they have to have some hope that
people are going to really like it.
>> Well, I'm sure they had some hope that
people were really going to like BDSP.
>> True.
I mean, I still have never played it,
but I like the fact that I've never
played it and I'm like their target
audience because Pearl was my f my first
game and favorite game.
>> Yeah. But that's the thing. You're good.
You played Pearl.
>> Yeah. Yeah. I don't Why would I need to
play the shittier remake?
>> Yeah.
>> Play the better remake. Play Platinum.
>> I also like Platinum.
>> Um
>> what else we got here? Let's see.
>> I think that's about all we've really
got for Wild Card.
>> Oh yeah. So this so my um our buddy
texted me and mentioned something about
um Burlington Pokecon Fest.
Um
>> yes that that AI generated sounding ass
name.
>> Yes. So, I looked I looked it up and the
funny thing is you go to like when you
look it up and you're on the website,
you get a little like um connection is
not secure warning.
>> Great.
>> Um but so essentially what it is is I'll
read it here. says, "Pokeon is the
Pokemon Collector's Mecca one-day trade
show conventions across the USA,
striving to be best and truest Pokemon
convention featuring fandoms of multiple
genres. As a longtime collector of
Pokemon items, the promoter brings you
an event that will satisfy all Pokemon
fandom." So, to me, that sounds like
somebody who doesn't speak English wrote
that and translated it. Um, which is
fine, but it's just interesting.
Pokecon will have exhibitors that cater
to a wide spectrum of interests,
including Pokemon Candy.
Why is Pokemon Candy the first thing
listed? That is so funny. Um, Pokemon
Candy, magazines, toys, video games,
retro, voice actors, artwork, artwork,
sketches, apparel, and jewelry, TCG, and
and manga. In addition, a roster of
Pokemon industry professionals and
fandom related celebrities are
guaranteed in attendance for fans to
meet and greet.
>> This will be one show not to miss if you
love Pokemon. And so the only, it looks
like the only voice actor in attendance,
maybe maybe not the only one, but the
only one listed
is
Danny Kramer
who voiced
whoever that is. Is that a Pokemon? Uh,
>> that's that's Ryhan. That's from uh
>> Shield. Sword and Shield.
>> Sword and Shield. Yep. He was the eighth
gym leader.
>> Um,
so
now that I'm actually looking at this
website,
>> in the anime, it's Pokemon Journeys.
Yeah.
>> Now that I'm actually looking at this
website, I'm like, "Oh, okay." Um,
>> extremely low-key. They're trying it. It
seems legit.
It does seem legit. Um, at least the
ticket link goes to an Eventbrite page,
so you're not like just putting your
card information into their website.
>> That's good.
>> Tickets are
um $24.
>> Okay,
>> that's a lot of money.
>> Okay,
just just out of curiosity, how much is
a ticket to the fair?
>> Um, not as much as that.
>> Yep. Okay, that's all. No worries.
>> Um,
so
yeah, not cheap.
>> I'll be curious if anybody in the
Pokémon Go community up there is talking
about that and
what that's all about before I come up
there and go to that because I feel like
I would rather just like go to the mall
on a day when they have like their
>> like the card show and all that out and
about. Yeah.
So, that's a little sketchier than I
thought it was going to be, but there
are a lot of, excuse me, predatory like
conventions that like predatory is a
strong word, but like scammy type
convention.
>> Yeah. Where it's like they promise one
thing and then they have the absolute
bare minimum.
>> Like you show up, there's barely even
displays. It's mostly just an empty
room.
>> So, that's what worries me about the $24
admission fee. If it was cheaper, I feel
like I'd be more excited to be like,
"Yeah, let's just check it out."
>> But like I don't know. Like I'm going to
have to like see if anybody talks about
that because
>> part of me is like I would love to see
what this is all about and part of me is
like I'm going to save my money.
>> Like let me go buy like three packs of
Pokemon cards or whatever. Like
>> Yep. Pretty much do it depending on the
set.
>> Yeah. Exactly. So that's that's an
interesting one.
Um,
>> well, I'd be interested to see how that
shapes out. And
>> yeah,
>> yeah, if if there's literally nothing
else to do that day and $24 is thrown in
my face.
>> I'm kidding. Well, and I also feel like
a lot of that stuff too is like
the vendors that would be there are also
the type of people that are at like a
sci-fi fantasy like convention like like
like
you're showing up to shop.
>> Say that again.
>> You're showing up to shop.
>> Yeah, exactly. Like I'm not going to
show up just to meet the voice actor of
Ryhan from Pokemon Journeys,
>> right? Which like no disrespect to him,
but I didn't watch Pokemon Journeys. I
>> Yeah, it's insane. Like Ryhon and Sword
and Shield had no voice
and I I like I'm I'm fine.
>> I wonder if he's
>> I hope he has a great time
>> cuz it sounds so it sounds like they do
this all over the place and I wonder cuz
it's like uh guaranteed to have a voice
actor there. Like I wonder if this guy's
just somewhat local and it's the only
one that they could get to go.
>> I think it's got to be like he's either
somewhat local, not doing anything else
or particularly partnered with the
people organizing this event maybe.
Yeah, that's true, too. All right, I'm
gonna have to do some research and see
what other people have said about past
ones. Yeah, definitely curious in
different areas. Um,
anyways, so that's exciting.
>> Shall we jump into some Pokemon Lego?
>> Yeah, Pokemon Lego. Let's do it.
>> Uh, let's see. What do we got? I don't
think there have been
>> I did see I did go to Walmart the other
day and I did see a bunch of Lego sets.
This is dope. I want the Rayquaza.
>> Same. That is the one that I want. So, I
think I was telling you and I told the
podcast that I wanted the Pokeball real
bad and then I found out it was $300.
>> Oh my god.
>> Yeah, I'm all good. Uh, that Rayquaza is
150 and I think that's way more
reasonable.
>> It's gorgeous, too. Like, it's really
really cool.
>> And you get a minifigure. Get a little
Zenia.
>> Oh, I don't think I saw that.
>> I do I do wish the minifigures looked a
little bit nicer just cuz the faces are
very generic Lego minifigure. But I
guess what else did I really expect?
>> Yeah.
>> Um I do wish they had more of like the
the anime style eyes that the characters
have in like the games. And
>> I mean considering the set is $150, like
you could do a custom little minifigure
head like and then just reuse that for
any other Pokemon minifigures you're
going to do and just change the hair
like
>> Yeah. But it's like if I'm comparing
that to a $300 Pokeball, I'll get this.
>> Totally. Yeah. I think if if I were to
get one right now, it would be that
because I could justify
>> 150 bucks, even though that's a lot of
money. And I bet I could find a spot for
it.
>> Yes. And that's the thing. It's a lot
more vertical space than like
>> Yeah.
>> out wide, which I feel for me certainly
is easier.
>> Yeah.
>> Well, you remember I told you I was
looking at houses and I saw and I uh
>> That's right. I was like scrolling
through and it's actually literally a
house that's for sale on my road and I'm
like looking through and like when you
look at houses that are for sale, some
of the houses are like either empty or
they're staged which means like that's
not their furniture. They brought in
other furniture just to like make it
look nice in the hotel.
>> So you know what it would look like
being lived in.
>> Yep. Or it is just lived in and it's
their stuff. And so this one is that.
And so I'm scrolling through scrolling
through
>> unless that's staged like I would.
>> Imagine
>> if I was a house stager, I would stage
it with po I would like put little um
Easter eggs in every picture. Um and so
this one was just somebody's house. Like
it was all their in there. And I'm
scrolling through and then all of a
sudden I'm like look I'm like, "Oh,
that's colorful." And I'm like, wait a
minute, that's the um
$600 something dollar um Charizard,
Bulbasaur, and um Blastoise or Bul or
Venusaur and Blastoise friaking Lego
set. And it is large, but it's also
funny because there was like as much as
there like the room was kind of empty.
Like it was still somebody's room like
with their in it, but like it was
kind of empty and then there's just this
like big Pokemon figure in the corner
and I was like,
>> "Yeah, they don't have the money to own
anything else.
They had to sell everything else to
them.
>> They're like, um, I'm going to write to
them and be like, um,
>> does the Pokemon figurine come with the
sale of the house
>> for the price? It better.
>> Yeah, exactly. So, anyways, that was
funny. But
>> I was like, damn, that's big. And I also
And this is just a reminder that I don't
need that.
>> Same. And like it it'd be cool. I mainly
wanted it because you get the badge set
with it. I know. That was so
>> Now you just can't get it.
>> It's And it's a shame. I mean, they did
that on purpose.
>> Yeah, of course. They put something cool
with it that it's, you know, you have to
purchase with the thing
>> and they do spend $650 for it. Um,
>> and they did do another set like that.
Um,
there was a Squirtle.
It was like a a small set of a Squirtle
and like a a TV set or something like
that, but it was a Ditto Squirtle.
>> So, it had like the the Ditto face for
the
>> face panel.
>> Um I think that was a pre-order bonus
with the Pokeball.
>> That's kind of cool.
>> Again,
cool things, but the really
expensive things that you need to buy.
Thank you, Lego. Screw you. But in in
things that you can buy, you know, like
you've been to Walmart. I've been to
Barnes & Noble a few times lately, and
they have a fairly good Lego stock. Of
course, the Pokemon.
>> I saw the Cubone.
>> Yes. Yes. $90 for that set.
>> We've gone over some of these prices
before, but
>> Well, what So, what is the What's the
other ones? It's like something
like What are the special ones called?
>> Special ones? You mean like the the like
the black box?
>> They're like yellow.
>> Oh, the yellow Oh, the um
smart brick compatible sets.
>> Yeah. What the hell's all that about?
>> Uh it it's like you can use a They come
with
I I don't fully know how smart bricks
work. I know they like have lights and
sounds depending on the
>> Lego panels that you put onto them. I
just don't know how that works or how
that like programs them or tells them
what sounds to make. I'm sure there's
electronics in the small pieces
themselves that you put on.
>> Yeah.
>> Uh
>> but yeah.
>> Oh, that's kind of cool. So, you can
like it you can play with them and like
they make noises and and there's
lights.
>> Oh, I like that.
>> I do like the Mewtwo one of the smart
brick. Like that's a cool
>> like the tube. That is really cool.
>> Mewtwo.
>> Mewtwo. The YouTube
>> I do think I'm I'm curious what they
will Oh, here's the ditto. The Squirtle
Ditto.
>> Yep.
>> That is so cool.
>> There is a Squirtle that's commercially
available. Has a little buggy.
>> Okay. But that's way cooler.
>> That is way cooler.
>> Um, it's so cute.
I think I'll be curious to see what else
they come out with. I'm actually like
quite surprised by just the sheer volume
of stuff they've already come out with.
>> Mhm. Like it seemed like they released
the first three and then all of a sudden
it's like, "Oh my god, now there's like
>> then they kind of spammed the smart
brick sets." Yeah. And then and then
they had the new wave of uh I guess
premium sets is Yeah. I I don't fully
know. Uh with like the Arcanine and
>> actually was Arcanine part of the first
wave.
>> I'm not sure.
>> I don't remember. Munchlax was in the
second wave. I think Arcanine might have
been the first.
>> Mhm.
>> Um
yeah, all all those all around they seem
to be getting pretty good distribution.
So, at least when I do feel confident
confident in getting my Cubone and
Gengar, it should be available.
>> Yeah, exactly.
Well, um yeah, I'll be curious to see
what else they come out with. Um and
I'll be curious to see what happens with
the like card ones.
>> Oh, yes. Cuz still I don't know if
there's been really any movement or
updates on those. So,
>> um those were really cool.
>> Give me that Joltic.
>> The Joltic was awesome. again like wish
the RCS was a little cooler.
>> Did we get a winner on that yet?
>> Um
the last thing I see is May announcing
the five finalists.
>> Oh, the winning design will be announced
by February 4th, 2027.
>> Okay, we got some time then.
>> So far away. What the
>> Damn. Well then.
>> All right. Well, I can I can put that
out of my mind and forget about it and
be excited when that is announced.
>> No need to worry. I won't miss out. Um,
yeah, I think that's about it for the
Pokemon Lego. I can't think of anything
new other than those. Like, yeah,
they're out in stores. They look really
cool. Definitely want to get my hands on
the Cubone set when I can.
>> Yep.
>> Oh, yeah. I just thought about a a
little personal acquire acquirance.
That's not a word.
per personal pickup at some point in one
of my many outings just Cubone related
and I mean we're getting off the Pokemon
Lego at this point. Um kind of back into
the TCG. I told you before how I've been
getting my Cubone cards here and there
when I find them.
>> Yep.
>> Uh had I I don't know if I sent you the
actual picture, but I did
>> I have two Cubone cards that I've
managed to pick up so far. I've always
been on the lookout for any singles of
Cubone Marowaks that I can find just
whenever I go out my shopping. Um,
recently it had been the first time I
ever actually found any. And I found two
uh in two visits to VGA, Vermont Gaming
Academy, where I got the uh original I
didn't even realize at the time when I
picked it up. Original first edition
jungle set Cubone.
>> So like that that OG art where he's
staring up at the night sky.
>> I'm so happy.
>> Oh my god, that's so cool.
>> Only 10 bucks. Um, and then the next
one, I don't know what set it's from. I
don't remember off the top of my head,
but I know it's a
I think it's either Gen two or Gen 3 era
card. Um, it's another cute little
Cubone. Uh, like laid in a dark corner
sleeping.
>> Uh, that one was a little bit more I
think. I can't remember.
I think maybe like 15, 20. Um, and then
I actually just the other day I I went
out and about and found another one. I
was going into the expansion right
across from VGA, which is also their
their store, their property.
>> Yep. Um
>> they sell cards over there.
>> Yeah, they they have a little
storefront. They sell cards, cards,
accessories, and they they even have
their own little um display for singles.
>> Interesting.
>> So, I go in, I grab a couple of things,
and I start looking at the singles. Girl
behind the counter asks, "Hey, you
looking any for anything in particular?"
I'm like, "Oh, always keep an eye out
for Marowax Cubones." She's like, "Give
me a second. I might have something."
>> Oh, god.
>> Goes to run take a look at the to be
priced pile. So, the things that they
had gotten in and haven't gotten a price
on yet.
>> Yep.
>> And pulls out a hollow Cubone that was
apparently part of a McDonald's
promotion.
>> Oh my god. Cool.
>> Uh Yep. And like a $15 card, but I was
like, "Sure, I'll take it. I want my
guy."
>> Um and so now I have my third Cubone has
hit the shelf.
>> Your collection has grown. Are you
putting them in like hard plastic things
and like
>> Yes, as I get them. So, I've already got
two of them in the magnetic cases, and I
need to get another one for this new one
that I just got.
>> Nice.
>> Um, and also just in promo cards. I
picked up some from Barnes & Noble the
other day as well, and I guess there's a
promotional Pikachu card being handed
out sometimes.
>> Oh, I saw something about that.
>> Uh, so I I did get that. It's a world
It's a world 2026 Pikachu.
>> Nice.
>> So,
>> I remember seeing that and being like,
"Oh, I should do that." And then didn't
do that.
Yeah, cute little thing that I've got. I
might get a sleeve case for all that
just because it's a world's cards.
That's a little bit more
>> um
>> Yeah, but my my Cubone collection grows
stronger.
>> That's awesome. I'm glad you're I'm glad
you're doing that and I'm glad you got
some cool finds. I need to uh I need to
figure out what I want to do like with
mine because I've got quite a few like
um like I've got the three you gave me
that are in those magnetic cases. The
Bulbasaur.
>> Not the Bulbasaur.
>> Was it the Gen four starters?
>> Yeah, the Gen four starters, which why
they're all names are all escaping me
right now.
>> Turwig.
>> Um,
and I have a quite a few Drifloons.
>> Um, so that would be cool to like, but
like I'm thinking like, oh, it'd be nice
to like maybe get like a shadow box type
thing and like put some in there and
like
>> Oh, definitely. like to hang up on the
wall or something. So, you're giving me
ideas
and you're making me want to go buy
cards. So, bad bad.
>> Don't do that. Don't do that.
>> Don't do that.
>> Well, that is very exciting. That's
that's awesome. Um, and I will keep my
eye out for you when I because there's a
couple of card places around here. I
haven't been lately, but I am always on
the lookout for some Cubone stuff for
you. Like there that what was that thing
that I got you for Christmas one year
that was like Cubone? like
>> it was a it was a graded Cubone like
token from
>> some Pokemon board game. I forget fully
what it was,
>> but it was like the super obscure thing
that I still cherish very much. So,
thank you for that.
>> You're very welcome. Yeah, I think
pretty sure I got that from
>> It's just such an odd thing. I love it.
>> I think I got that in Lake George
actually at a Pokemon at some sort of
>> I think you might have mentioned that to
me because wasn't that um
>> I'm trying to think. think I feel like
you got me something else from Oh, yeah.
You also got me the Pokemon trainer like
ID thing.
>> Yes. Yeah, that was like George very
like
>> um I can picture the place in my brain.
Um but yeah, there's some cool places
around here that I should um hit up a
little bit more often, but
>> we're getting towards that time of the
year again. I gota I got to find another
Cubone for you.
>> Yeah. Well, thank you. It's always
appreciated.
>> Yes, of course. And I'll be sure to keep
an eye out for any Drifloons, any
Bulbasaurs
>> or any of my
uh Gen 4 Pokemon.
>> Have you even opened ZA?
>> Nope.
And I know you have a note in there for
me.
>> Well, I'm just because I'm thinking
about at this point, it's like there's
more than a note in there.
>> Oh, you put a present in there.
>> There might be a card.
>> Okay. Well, I'll try to remember.
>> Like, I'm not even pressuring you to
play the game. I'm just like,
>> look at the thing.
>> Okay. I will try to remember that when I
go home. And
>> you're totally good, friend. You're
totally fine.
>> Well, now I'm excited. So, um, and then
that'll probably get me to play the
game. So,
>> there we go.
>> Um, we do have a TV in the room now, so
that would be
>> that would be nice to get the Switch set
up um to that. And
>> so, yeah. And I feel like I'm in a I'm
in a Pokemony mood. So,
>> yeah.
>> Yeah, I'm slowly but surely trying to
work my way into like doing some more
things. Like I I need to get a little
bit on having some more notes for when
we have news episodes like this. But
also, I've just kind of been trying to
play a little bit more.
>> Uh my Switch 2 I'm playing right now,
Pokemon XD, Gale of Darkness, because
it's on the Gamecube like collection on
the Switch.
>> Uh so I've been absolutely blasting
through that. I only just now added my
fifth and sixth members to the team.
It's taken me so long, but it's because
the Pokemon selection in that game is so
oddly limited. There's
I don't know. And like every water type
I've come up to up to this point, I
haven't wanted to use Marowak is
available in the game, but it's not
until like right before the final boss
battle that you can catch it. So
>> Oh my god. Of course.
>> H I want to use him so bad, but it's
also like back in Gen 3, he's not going
to be good.
>> Yeah, but you know.
>> Yeah. Uh, and then I I've started to try
and kind of work up a a type nuzlock in
Violet again. So,
>> dope.
>> See how that goes.
>> You're having a lot of fun with Pokemon
lately then. That's cool.
>> Makes me uh Yeah, I should hop on and
play some ZA. I think I think I would
enjoy it.
>> It's a matter of like
>> doing it.
>> There's a learning curve to it with a
new battle system, but it's definitely a
lot of fun.
>> Yeah. And you know me, I'm I don't like
learning curves. So,
>> yeah, it's all good.
>> Well, all right, my friend. I feel like
we I'm like I'm always like surprised
when we have like just a yapping
episode. Like we didn't have that many
