Charlotte, a fourth-grade teacher and mother from Arizona, documents her early morning preparation for a grueling travel baseball double-header to the Phoenix valley. Waking up at 5:45 AM before the rest of her household, she faces the daunting prospect of temperatures expected to soar between 108 and 112 degrees Fahrenheit. She spends time deciding on her outfit and makeup, ultimately choosing a minimal approach with just skin tint and lip balm to avoid melting in the intense heat, while also experimenting with different ways to wear her team's bandana to stay cool without overheating from hats. Her practical mindset is evident as she prioritizes comfort and functionality over heavy cosmetics, knowing that sweating profusely will make removing makeup difficult later in the day. To accommodate the large group traveling for the game, including her parents who attend every event, Charlotte recently traded her silver Highlander for a white Grand Highlander specifically for its expanded cargo space. The new vehicle offers significantly more trunk room with the third row up, which is crucial for fitting all the necessary gear such as folding chairs, sound machines for hype music, ice chests, and gallons of water. She meticulously organizes the car, planning seating arrangements where her son Cash can store his equipment in the middle while she sits in the front due to being the smallest adult, ensuring there is ample room for everyone despite the cramped conditions required for a full family outing. The journey itself is marked by extreme heat, with Charlotte noting that it felt way too hot even before arriving at the field. Once there, her son's team, who are one age group younger than their opponents, plays with incredible effort and passion despite the oppressive weather. The boys suffer from dehydration and muscle cramps, described as wilting flowers in the sun, leading to a heartbreaking loss by a wide margin that forces the team to leave early. Charlotte captures the emotional toll on the young players, who cry and struggle physically, highlighting the difficult reality of youth sports played under such extreme conditions. After the game concludes with their team down by sixteen points, Charlotte takes care of her son by getting ice cream and preparing nachos before putting him to bed. The day ends with a sense of exhaustion but also pride in her children's hard work and resilience against the elements. She reflects on the purpose of travel baseball as a time for learning and development, acknowledging that while they lost, the boys gave their all despite melting in the 109-degree heat. The vlog concludes with Charlotte ready to relax and sleep after a long, hot, and emotionally draining day of supporting her family's athletic endeavors.

[music] Heat. Heat. Good morning everyone and welcome to another Apples and Tiara's vlog. If you are new here, my name is Charlotte and I am a fourth grade teacher in Arizona. I'm also a boy mom. And today is Saturday and it is our first travel baseball double header travel day. So, I'm going to take you guys along with us. Um, it's going to be a fun journey. We are headed down to the valley. Um, we live in the northern region of Arizona and so we are headed down to the valley today for a baseball game. But first, let's get some caffeine because it is early. It is 5:45 in the morning and I am up before the entire house, of course, because I'm going to get everything ready to go. Um, my husband should be shortly behind me, but I'm trying to figure out what I want to do with my hair. Um, we are going to the Phoenix area. Um, and so if you're not familiar with the weather there in August, it is really freaking hot. Um, where we live, it is not that way. We, um, we only hit around 80 90° in the summer here. So going to Phoenix is probably going to be about between 108 and 112 today. Um, so I haven't decided. Cash's baseball team's colors are light blue, white, um, and navy with a little sprinkle of black. Um, so I'm trying to decide if I want to wear this bandana. Their mascot is the rebel, so it is a like naughty cowboy. [snorts] Um, anyway, and the naughty cowboy wears a bandana. So, I thought about doing my hair um with a bandana today, but I don't know how I want to do it. So, I'm going to try a couple things out this morning. Um I'm probably not going to wear much for makeup. Um I might put on my Ilia skin tint this morning because of the sunscreen. Um it's kind of cloudy this morning. Uh especially here. We got up around 3:00 a.m. to a thunderstorm. Um, so I don't know what the weather's going to be like in Phoenix, but I might just put this on in case. I don't really want to, though. I feel like I'm going to be in the shade. Maybe I should avoid it and just wear nothing because I don't want to be sweating and I don't want to be scraping anything off of my face. So, I might just skip it. Um, I'm also going to be wearing sunglasses, so I don't know if I need mascara. And I'll just wear mascara. And then I'll probably do a wonders um lip tint as well today as far as makeup goes, cuz I just I'm very practical when it comes to that. Like I just don't I don't like having a bunch of makeup on when I know I'm going to be sweating a lot. Um, and honestly, my skin has been looking really nice lately. Um, I mean, as far as like, you know, I could probably tighten it up a little bit, like go in with my gouacha brush and tighten myself up here, but otherwise, it's looking really nice. So, I don't feel the need to wear makeup. Um, okay. Let's try a couple of bandana things. Okay, so there's like biker bandana option. Not really feeling it. Honestly, it would be neat to just get it wet and wear it like this so that I could stay cool. Um cuz that's what our mascot does. Hey, we could do it handkerchie style. Have to pin it. Maybe pull some pieces out. I still feel think I still feel like I'm going to be too hot. So, what if we just did a low bun? That's the other thing. I don't know that I want to wear a hat either because I feel like hats also make me overheat. So, I'm wondering if I should just do like a cute little low bun some pieces out. And then maybe I'll just wear this. Maybe I'll just get it wet cuz I know I'm going to need to keep my scarf wet. Um, and then I can just wear it around my neck to keep myself cool. But for now, let's just do a little a bow moment. Looks good to me. Okay, let's finish up makeup and then we'll get started with packing the car. All right, I think this is going to do for makeup um and hair. It'll be fine. Um, I left my tripod at school, so unfortunately I do not have a tripod to put you guys on. So, we're going to get creative. I want to show you guys my outfit for the day. Okay, so it was all a gift, but I am in Lululemon. Then I don't know what I'm going to wear yet as far as shoes go. I might wear tennis shoes, but I feel like tennis shoes are going to heat me up a little bit. I kind of just want to wear my no balls because they're comfortable. Um, they are all white. I won't be on the baseball field at all. I'll be around the baseball field. So, we'll see. All right. So, a few weeks ago, I actually traded in my silver Highlander for a white Grand Highlander. And I'll tell you why in just a second. Same payment, same mileage, a year younger. Um, but the reason why I did it is because the Grand Highlander has a way bigger trunk area with the third row being used than the regular Highlander. So, the regular Highlander would have maybe given me like this amount of trunk space with the third row up. This one gives me double the amount of trunk space. Um, why is that important? Well, because travel baseball. Um, we knew that this was coming. We knew that Cash was going to be playing travel baseball. Um, and that means that a lot of us are going to be crammed in this vehicle at once. Um, and so, um, my mom and dad are coming along with us. Um, they never miss anything unless they're on a vacation. So, if you know me personally, then you know what I'm talking about. My parents are always at everything. Every practice, every game, every event, like they are there for everything. So, they are going to be riding along with us today. Um, and so we are going to be utilizing the third row. Um, this so far is almost everything that we're packing. So, we have our popup right here. This is my chair. Wayne's chair. Scotch chair is one of these little fold up ones. Um, so we have that and then we have the sound machine. Um, I am the music person, so I play the walk up songs. I play the warm-up music in between. Um, just to like hype the boys up. Um, that is one of my favorite jobs to do. And so really what's left to go in here is a an ice chest bag that's probably going to fit right here. Um, and then two more chairs about this size. Uh, the bags are about that size. Um, and then I have my bog bag, which is not a real bog bag. It's just like a Costco brand. Um, but that will also be going in the car. um in addition to like my purse, my mom's purse, and a bunch of gallons of water. So, I'm going to flip you guys around. So, the Grand Highlander, I'm pretty sure I'd have to look up dimensions, but I'm pretty sure it gives you an extra foot of length and then a few inches more of width. And so, when you come in here, um you can see how much space there is. So, um, we have the captain's chairs. We have the center area, which will be perfect for an ice chest bag if we need to fit it there. Um, Cash's gear will most likely fit right here in between us. He'll sit here. His gear here. I'll sit there cuz I'm probably the smallest adult that we have going. Um, unless my dad decides to jump back there. But, um, so we have plenty of space. Is that a hat back there? I don't know what that is. Um, and then obviously Wayne is coming along too. And I'll show you guys what I bring to entertain him. This is so fancy. And then the front seat has a lot more space as well. Um, I don't need this hat. I'm trying to clean out the car so that we have as little inside just kind of like sitting as possible just because I know there's going to be so much stuff in here. Okay, these were trying to be stowaways. Put them there. Okay. So, some things that I'm bringing in the front. We have a blanket. This is just an outdoor like grass blanket. I'm going to bring that to just lay down underneath our popup just to be kind of like a clean floor space for Wayne to play on. And then I'm bringing him a couple of different sensory bins. This one I just got on Amazon. It's super cute. It's got little pets. I mean, it's totally not for like a boy, but he will play with this like crazy. Um, and then this one similar, but it's a tractor set. So, he has little tractors that go in there. And, um, then he has a big truck that the tractors live on. So, I'm bringing those for Wayne to play with. Um, in addition to any other toys that he decides to throw into the bog bag, we will also bring his backo. Um, we try to use toys at baseball that we don't have in the house. Like, this is normally not in the house. It usually stays in the garage. Um, but yeah, so here's the bog bag. It's slowly getting loaded up with stuff. And then we have two gallons of water here that are going to go with us. Don't come for me, guys. But I do bring Wayne a little iPad. Um, it's just a fire tablet and we only bring it so that he can watch like little shows. Like sometimes we'll put Paw Patrol. Like this is if like he's not playing with toys, super crabby because he's missing his nap. Um, so I'll bring the iPad just to help keep him occupied. Um, so that I can actually watch the game. Um, and then we will also be bringing a small wagon that will also fit in the car. um to get everything from the vehicle to the baseball field. So, I'm going to spend the rest of this morning. Um I need to get my watch on, but I need to prepare breakfast and um we don't need to go get coffee because I got us energy drinks. So, I'm going to finish packing everything up and then it's 6:11 right now. My parents will be here at 7 to pack the rest of the car and then we're trying to be out the door before 7:30. [music] >> [music] >> Hey. [music] Yeah. [music] Ah. Ah. [music] Yeah. [music] Yeah. [music] >> [music] >> Yeah. Yeah. [music] >> [music] [music] >> Hello friends, it It is much later in the evening. It's almost 9:00. Um, today was super fun, but also very hot. I think at one point it was 109. Um, the boys played so hard and they tried so hard. They played a 10U team and they're only a 9U team. And our team is very like in the developing stages. um they're all really great players from our local little league, but they're young and so they're all still learning the game and that was kind of the purpose of um starting travel ball was just to have more time to really learn the game. But anyways, so they lost, you know, by quite some. Um but they played their heart outs. They were so hot. They were melting. They were crying. They were cramping. They were just like the little catcher. It was so sad watching them. Like each kid that had to play catcher was just, you know, a wilting flower. And then by the end, we were finally like, "Okay, we're done." We were like down by like 16 points. I think our kids were just too hot. Um, so we ended up getting to leave a little bit early. I grabbed some ice cream. Um, and then just came home and had nachos and put the kids to bed. And so now we're just going to relax and go to sleep. And [sighs] sleep tomorrow. So, thanks for watching. See you in the next one. [music] [music] Heat. Heat. [music] [music] >> [music]
