Video summary
The video features fashion influencer Coco Styles offering practical advice on how women over forty can prepare their wardrobes for spring without immediately purchasing new items. She emphasizes the importance of starting with a "no-buy" period to encourage intentional shopping and suggests conducting a thorough inventory of one's current closet. This process involves identifying existing pieces that align with the spring color palette, such as lighter leather goods or neutral tones, while also recognizing versatile staples like white button-up shirts, light cardigans, and breathable blazers that can be worn multiple ways throughout the season.
A crucial step in this preparation is decluttering by removing items that are no longer in great condition, too small, or simply outdated. Coco illustrates this with an example of a favorite shirt that has become too tight to button properly, arguing that such pieces should be discarded immediately rather than kept out of sentimentality. She also advises viewers to evaluate their current collection against 2025 spring trends found on platforms like Vogue or Pinterest, encouraging them to incorporate new colors gradually if they do not naturally gravitate toward bright hues. For instance, she recommends opting for subtle shades over neon options that might clash with a mature aesthetic or cause discomfort.
The final recommendations focus on transitional pieces and comfort, which are essential due to the unpredictable spring weather. Coco highlights the value of layering items like trench coats, shawls, and scarves to adapt to fluctuating temperatures, ensuring one is not caught freezing outdoors. She stresses that new purchases must be able to mix and match with at least three different existing outfits to ensure versatility and value. Furthermore, she urges viewers to prioritize comfort by choosing natural fabrics over polyester, which can cause sweating, and to select garments that fit well on the shoulders and body, acknowledging that women in their forties may require lighter materials than they did in their twenties.

is your wardrobe ready for spring
welcome back to my channel guys it's
your girl Coco Styles and on this
channel we talk about beauty fashion
lifestyle and styling so today I wanted
to get your girls ready well get your
wardrobe ready for this spring most of
us are like getting prepared for spring
the weather has been so up and down in
Georgia so I'm sure it's happening where
you are as well so the goal of this
video is to help you girls who are 40
and up um prepare your wardrobes for the
spring not necessarily buying anything
first but really shopping your wardrobe
first one thing that I have been
struggling with lately I'm not going to
say a struggle but I have been on a no
buy since December um it was only
supposed to be for December but it ended
up trickling over and here we are in
February I did buy three pair of jeans
did I buy three I bought three or four
and I didn't really like how they fit so
I kept two of them I had to size up
whole big thing but that's the only
thing that I have purchased since
December 1st okay I'm being very
intentional and this is why I wanted to
do this video so the first thing I like
to do is take inventory of my closet our
any of these colors spring colors or any
of these things um things that I can
wear for the spring so I usually just
kind of go through each area this is my
pants rack over here bunch of leather
stuff um some girls do wear leather in
the spring um but they do wear a lighter
color leather now it's not going to take
away from you probably being hot but
girls do do it I have this white rompa
set
I can wear this in the spring if I
wanted to right you can wear it with
boots you can wear it with stockings if
it's a chili day with boots just depends
on your style if you wanted to wear it
with uh boots you could you can probably
wear pumps with it so it really just
depends but take inventory of your
wardrobe first before you do anything
you want to look for things that match
the spring color palette um if you're
not into that and you're just more of a
minimalist style girl this would be
really easy for you so check the color
palette I have some light color jeans
well trousers in the back that's like a
light green um I have stuff in the
closet that may go with the color scheme
I do have more of a neutral wardrobe but
those are the things that I'm looking
for when it comes to preparing my
wardrobe for spring the second thing you
want to do is you want to identify any
Staples that you know that's going to be
worn multiple ways so for example this
top that I have on it's not white it's
like an ivory color but this is a staple
for me I have a million white shirts in
here so those are going to be Staples
for me in my actual wardrobe depends on
you if you are a person who loves white
button-up
shirts that's what you go for okay white
button-up shirts is what I have I have
about five of these they're all
different styles but this is a staple
for me if a light cardigan is a staple
for you make sure you have those in your
wardrobe so when you're taking this
inventory you're looking for the things
that are going to make getting dress
super easy and make you still look
stylish so white button-up shirts for me
will be a staple for me another
staple for me would be a light cardigan
or a light Blazer so as far as a
Blazer I would say something light like
this and I don't mean Light In Color I
mean light in Fabric and material this
is a really nice satin Blazer so this is
a staple for me honestly this is a
staple in general for my wardrobe
because I love stuff like this it's just
really my wardrobe aesthetic and my
style but pick out your Staples make
sure your Staples are all in great
condition uh make sure there's no worn
seams on it make sure the buttons are
all functional if there's a zipper make
sure the Zi work if it's
old get rid of it which leads me to
number three so number
three number three is going to be get
rid of anything old if you have anything
in your closet that is old worn out that
cannot be repaired get rid of it now I
do a really good job at getting rid of
things that I
don't necessarily feel are in great
condition but let me see if I can find
something so
and when I mean great condition I mean
like it got like holes and stuff in it
and it's just like it's a no like
there's no fixing it I probably don't
have anything but I may have something
that is too small
okay and this is not even anything crazy
because like I said I do a really good
job at purging my closet but this shirt
this is another white button-up shirt
it's beautiful it used to be like one of
my favorite interview shirts really nice
but it's too small
it barely button up but I still have it
hanging up this has to go like this has
to go this should not still be hanging
in my closet Tor uh get rid of things
that are not in great condition get rid
of things that are no longer your style
get rid of things that are just taking
up space in general those are three
things that you should be doing before
you do anything else when starting to
prepare your wardrobe for spring so the
next section would be look at the spring
2025 colors trends
Styles all that good stuff then compare
it to your wardrobe are you gearing
towards all of trendy pieces or do you
feel like your style is completely like
outdated um do you feel like you need a
whole new wardrobe like those are the
things that you want to look for this is
honestly when it comes to building your
personal style or even trying to prepare
your wardrobe for the next season any
season to be quite honest look at the
2025 list you can go on v.com you can
get magazines you can go on Pinterest
you can go on Tik Tok go on YouTube
girls okay or you can watch my channel
okay look at 2025 it's just a really
good way to like I said shop your closet
first before you start to buy things we
usually have things in our closets that
are trendy for the moment um and that
can be worn for The Following season but
always shop your closet first so when
you're shopping your closet first and
you see things on this 25 I don't know
spring Trend list and you are wanting to
try it but don't really want to pull the
trigger you can start with color I did a
video and I'll pop it in some weere with
the 2025 spring colors I didn't give you
guys all of the colors but I gave you
some really nice palettes that you can
incorporate to pretty much any wardrobe
uh but you want to start to incorporate
those pieces in if you are not a person
who likes really bright colors then
don't go for any of the spring colors
that are super bright go for ones that
are a little bit more on the subtle side
like like that pretty yellow I have a
really nice yellow suit that I got from
Express super nice so because I don't
have like super bright colors in my
closet I'm really careful on the colors
that I do add to it it has to be things
that make sense you guys already know
about those green Jimmy let me let me
show you the shoes these shoes I had no
business buying them girls and you can't
even see the color like that not they're
not ugly this it's so bright in here
they're just extremely extremely bright
I'm going to see if I can get a closeup
for you guys but something like this I
could wear with some jeans and a t-shirt
like super simple but it's not something
that I would deem that fits my wardrobe
like it doesn't so just being smart when
buying pieces for your
closet and be intentional when you're
buying colors for closet so that is
another tip that you should do when you
are preparing your wardrobe for spring
2025 so the next part is going to be
your transitional pieces which is going
to be TR coats you guys know I love my
Frankie shop trench coat but you can
wear things like Shaws that are open um
just nice pieces like I got this from
noram more very very nice Shaw let me
turn it around hold on cuz this
little nor more it just literally just
slides on you um other transitional
pieces like I said would be
Cardigans um anything that is great for
layering okay layering is going to be
your best friend for the spring because
the weather is still like that in
between and you don't want to get caught
out there in on a day and you're
freezing so check out your transitional
pieces in your closet again Cardigans
trench coat
nice scarves anything lightweight that
you can layer over an existing top or a
dress right so the next section is going
to be mixing and matching your pieces so
if you do want to buy anything new
that's great um but see if it could go
with things in your closet let's pull my
shirt again I'm going to my my
blazer so if you buy something like this
Blazer and you know your wardrobe is
full of things that may not go with this
you should be able to pair this item if
you purchased it new with a few pieces
in your wardrobe I would say at minimum
like three different things or three
different styles that you can do with
the item gone all the days we are buying
things and we only can wear it once like
nobody's doing that so be intentional
when you're shopping see if you can mix
and match the pieces in your closet now
or mix and match something that you want
to actually add to your wardrobe right
and the last thing is going to be
comfort you want to go for things that
have a great fabric that will last us
for a long time it depends on your body
guys and I'm going to say this a lot of
women in their 40s we start getting hot
you know what I'm saying so we may want
to get things that are lighter as
opposed to someone in their early 20s um
so really pay attention to your body
your body's temperature when you're
buying these clothes a lot of the
clothes these days are made with
polyester and y'all know polyester will
have you sweating okay so and that's for
all ages so think about Comfort think
about comfort in your shoes comfort in
fabric comfort in things fitting on your
body if it doesn't fit your shoulders
it's not a great fit if it's too tight
around the bus area and your buttons are
opening up it's not a great fit you're
going to be tugging and pulling and US
regular folks out here are going to know
that you're not comfortable in the item
or the item is too small so those are
some of the things that I would
recommend you do to get ready for
spring before you start buying things
shop these closets first girls it is
something that I love to do it may look
like I have a lot of stuff I always
complain that I don't have any clothes
and that's because I'm not really loving
a lot of the stuff that is being sold to
us now so this is also helping me take a
step back when it comes to shopping so I
may have to do some
finagling but those are some of the
things that I would recommend you do if
you're trying to prepare for spring I
hope you guys thought this video was
helpful if you have any questions on
other things that you can do to get
prepare for spring or any other season
or just in general getting your closet
