Video summary

Spencer Jones emphasized the critical importance of scoring early in the game, particularly after a previous loss, as it provided his team with a significant momentum boost. He noted that getting on the board first with a two-run hit allowed pitcher Garrett Cole to have room to work and enabled the offense to play comfortably behind a lead for the majority of the contest. This strategic advantage highlighted how starting strong can define the outcome of a match, turning a potential deficit into a comfortable victory against the Angels. Jones also addressed his recent success against left-handed pitchers, attributing it to maintaining a simple approach rather than overthinking his strategy. He explained that he treats every pitcher the same way, focusing on getting a good pitch to hit rather than trying to do too much specifically against lefties. This straightforward mindset has paid off recently, including a key RBI single late in the game that helped secure the win, demonstrating consistency and adaptability in his offensive performance when facing different pitching styles. The conversation also touched on defensive efforts, with Jones reflecting on a challenging sliding catch where he felt he was running forever but ultimately missed the ball. He expressed frustration over missing several plays recently but remained determined to keep trying his hardest to make those difficult stops in the future. Conversely, he praised a successful defensive play he did make, which allowed his pitcher to lead off the inning, showing that while some moments are frustrating, making key plays is essential for team success. Finally, Jones discussed his home run production in back-to-back games and his comfort with hitting the long ball, especially with teammate Aaron not playing. He stated that he does not overthink power hitting but instead focuses on putting good swings on the ball, acknowledging that luck has played a role in his recent connections. His enthusiasm was particularly evident when talking about Garrett Cole, whom he enjoys playing for as a fellow Californian, noting that it is fun to support a teammate who grew up nearby and performed well throughout the night.

after yesterday, just how big was it for you guys to to get on the board first with two run shot and give Garrett a little room to work with? >> Yeah, I think scoring in the first in any game, especially a game bouncing back after a loss is huge. And just being able to you know, play with the lead for you know, for the majority of the game and then yeah, just to bring the offense early is big for the team. >> Overall, you've had success offensively. You also had that RBI single late in the game against the lefty hitting 400 against lefties in last 35 at bats. Just what do you make about your success against lefties? >> Yeah, I think with lefties, you got to keep a simple approach and I'm not really trying to do too much against those guys and it's also you know, it's it's one of those things where I just treat them like every other pitcher and just try and get a good pitch to hit. >> You see the sliding catch in right? >> Yeah, just I felt like I was running forever on it. I kind of wish I put my body in a different position to try and catch that ball, but I just frustrated about not making some plays last couple nights and then that one again tonight is been what it is, but I'm going to keep going out there and try my hardest to go get those balls. >> Sorry, what about the one you did catch though? >> Oh, the one I caught? That was great. Yeah, I needed that one. Yeah, so that was great to chase that one down and and make a play for our pitcher to lead off the inning. >> Home runs for you in back-to-back games. How do you feel power-wise your contributions, especially with Aaron not playing? They need you to hit the long ball. >> Yeah, I'm not thinking too hard about hitting the long ball. It's just about putting good swings on the on the ball for the most part and I've been lucky to connect with a couple these last couple days. So we're just going to you know, keep things rolling, not look too much into it and keep doing what we're doing. >> What about Garrett tonight? Garrett Cole. >> Oh, Garrett tonight? >> Yeah, and overall close playing behind him. >> Yeah, I love love playing for Garrett. You know, it's it's fun playing for a fellow Californian in California and you know, we would over that. So it's just I don't know, it's fun, fun playing together and especially today, Um um, nearby where he grew up and you know, I was rooting for him all night and he did a good job. So.
