Video summary
Spencer Jones celebrated a significant victory over the Toronto Blue Jays following a dramatic play where he hit a home run that cleared the foul pole. The excitement of the moment was palpable as Jones expressed his relief and joy when the umpire confirmed the ball was fair, noting that such calls often depend on the official's discretion. After rounding the bases, Jones humorously admitted to running into the dugout with his bat while waiting for confirmation, joking about whether he had sat on the field beforehand just to be ready in case the play was challenged again.
The conversation also touched upon the strong chemistry and close relationships within the team, particularly among the young players who have made it through the organization. Jones emphasized that being part of a competitive team is the ultimate goal for any player, and he felt a deep sense of satisfaction knowing his contributions helped the team win despite recent injuries. He highlighted how the group has come together well, noting that they are all good people with great personalities who get along very well, which has been crucial in helping the team return to contention.
Jones reflected on his recent performance, stating that he believes he hit the highest home run of his career during this game. He also shared a lighthearted moment regarding George's belt, explaining how he had previously worn Ben's belt before switching back to his own, which led to a funny exchange with George about who was wearing whose gear. Additionally, Jones discussed a close play at third base where the ball slipped from his glove due to the momentum of the slide, expressing relief that the runner did not score.
Looking ahead, Jones addressed concerns about potential overturned calls by reiterating his trust in the umpire's judgment and his willingness to accept the outcome. He credited his recent consistency to daily adjustments, guidance from coaches, and open conversations with teammates, acknowledging that baseball is a fluid game that requires constant adaptation. Finally, he praised the bullpen for their incredible work every night, describing them as a close-knit group that loves their job and consistently keeps the team in the game.

I didn't know. I was just standing there
watching it and then I saw it go up and
around the foul pole and I was hoping
the umpire saw the same thing as me and
yeah, I wasn't really sure because it's,
you know, umpire's discretion on that.
And when you said fair, I was very
excited. So
>> I think you sat on the field before they
confirmed that you grabbed the bat again
just to be ready or you think
>> um well I had rounded the bases and then
they challenged and then the bad boy
brings my bat back and then I'm like got
to stay locked in, you know, just in
case. Yeah. Bat continues. And then
yeah, I ran into the dugout with my bat.
So that was kind of fun.
>> Guessing that's never even been crossed
your mind.
>> No. No. But hey, there it goes. Still,
>> what does it mean to you to be
contributing in such a big way to a team
that's in a big race here?
>> Uh I think that's what what it's all
about. You know, that's what you what
you want to do as a player is to be on a
team that's competing and then to help
the team win games in any way possible.
So you just having the opportunity to
and then on, you know, nights like
tonight where I'm able to help the team
win it, you know, it's huge. With the
injuries this team has had, it's really
fallen on you guys to carry the team and
get back into the race. How well do you
think this team has jelled so far with
the young guys?
>> I think the the young guys that we have
here are, you know, extremely close.
It's uh it's one thing going through the
organization after getting drafted and
knowing the expectations and then, you
know, the guys that are able to make it
through and play at this level. It's,
you know, we're all very close because
we've I don't know, played together even
though necessarily haven't played
together. It's just it's uh it's it's a
lot of really good people and a lot of
really good personalities and we all get
along really well. So,
>> you ever hit a home run that high?
>> Um
I don't think so. No, it was maybe the
highest one I've ever hit. So, yeah.
>> What did you think of George's belt
today?
>> That was funny. Uh loved it. Uh he was
he was so excited. Um cuz I had Ben's
belt and then Ben put on his own belt
like his regular belt and so mine went
to George and you know we were both you
know cracking up. We thought it was
hilarious. So I hope you guys did too.
>> Play play that one for the triple. How
like was it impact from the ground that
knocked it out or you didn't really have
it in your glove? I I chased it down and
then uh I was just going to make an
attempt on the ball the best that I
could and then I had it like right there
on the the base of my glove and it was
like balancing there perfect and I try
and reach and grab it but it just I
think for the momentum of the slide it
just slipped out the way that was moving
and uh yeah I'm just I'm just glad he
didn't score. So
>> after what happened earlier the week in
Baltimore with Alonzo did you have any
concern that maybe that call would be
overturned?
>> Um I don't know. I was just uh going off
the umpire's discretion and then, you
know, hoping that if it's if he called
it fair, they were just going to confirm
the call. Spencer,
>> what do you think about your approach
has allowed you to kind of find the
consistency you've have the last few
games and weeks?
Uh yeah, it's been, you know, it's been
a lot of adjustments I think for me
daytoday just trying to uh continue to
navigate and get better and work on
different things and you know, the
coaches have different ideas for me,
different certain things and you know,
I'm willing and able to uh you know, try
and do what I can and conversations with
other players, too. Um but yeah, you
know, it's always something that's
fluid. It's going to keep moving and
we're going to do our best to keep
adjusting.
>> What do you think of bullpen tonight?
>> Bullpen? Our bullpen's incredible. Like
those guys go in there every single
night and they they do their job and you
know they they love it. They're a very
close group as well. So it's just it's
just one night after another. Those guys
are out there doing their thing and, you
know, keeping us in ball
