Video summary
Spencer Jones reflects on a recent series against San Diego, acknowledging that while the final outcome was not what his team desired, the experience itself was incredibly rewarding for him personally. Playing in front of friends and family on the West Coast allowed him to reconnect with his roots and enjoy a fun week filled with meaningful interactions. He emphasizes that beyond the scoreboard, the opportunity to compete in tough games, especially towards the end of the day when he gave himself a chance to succeed, was what truly mattered most during this memorable stretch.
One specific highlight Jones recalls is his successful at-bat against pitcher Morhon, where he managed to hit a fastball down the line to keep the chain moving. His approach involved throwing the ball hard and aiming to lift one of the fastballs slightly into the zone before making contact. This strategy allowed him to get a piece of the pitch and drive it effectively, resulting in a good outcome that contributed to his overall hot streak during the series.
Jones also addresses the team's late-inning success, attributing their ability to capitalize on opportunities to thorough preparation before the series began. By studying the opposing leverage pitchers and establishing a clear plan of attack, he and his teammates stayed committed to their strategy throughout the games. This mental discipline helped them block out distractions at the plate, though he notes that despite having several good chances, they ultimately did not come through in the final result.
The conversation turns to teammate Garrett, who has performed exceptionally well since returning from the injured list, only to face a rough start where he gave up three consecutive home runs early in the game. Jones explains that although the damage happened quickly in the first inning, he did not believe the team was out of the contest after that moment. He praises Garrett for doing his job and pitching really well for the remainder of the game, providing the team with a chance to compete before they ultimately fell short against San Diego.

Not the results you guys would have
liked as a team, [music] but what do you
personally take away from this series?
>> Uh I think yeah, the series was awesome.
I think it was just it was good just
good for me to see family and connect to
the roots and all those things and to uh
>> [snorts]
>> I don't know, be back in the West Coast
and play well in front of my friends and
family. I think it just means a lot to
me and means a lot to you know people I
grew up with.
>> Is there one moment that you think
you'll really keep with you from this?
>> Um
I don't know. It's a combination of
things. It's just fun week just seeing
people and and reconnecting and then you
were playing you know tough competitive
games especially you know towards the
end of the day giving ourselves a chance
and I think that's what matters.
>> How about your winning left on left
against Morhon? He's really tough. You
know what was your approach there? How
were you able to stay with that pitch?
>> Um yeah, my approach was just to to you
throw those things hard so just trying
to see one of the fastballs bring it up
in the zone a little bit and I was able
to to you know just get a piece of it
and hit it down the line and keep the
chain moving and
yeah, it was uh it was a good result.
>> You guys got a big hit and gave one of
the series in late late innings. Just
what is your kind of later inning
success tell you about yourself and the
way you're able to kind of block things
out at the plate?
>> Yeah, it's uh I think it's just comes
down to preparation that we do before
the series knowing it's against these
leverage guys what the what the plan is
of attack and what we're looking for and
just staying committed to that. So
um yeah, I got a couple good
opportunities this series and we'll just
keep it rolling for uh for the next one.
>> Garrett has been so good since coming
off the IL. You're almost taken aback
when you see him give up three straight
home runs to start this one.
>> Um yeah, I mean it obviously happened
quick in the first inning, but I didn't
think we were out of it for a second you
know cuz Garrett went out there and he
did his job for the rest of the game and
pitched really well and you know gave us
a chance and then you know we just
didn't come through today.
