Video summary
The video begins with a reflection on the biblical story of Samuel, using it as a foundation for the theme "Speak Lord," which marks the 76th anniversary of the Pathfinder movement. The speaker emphasizes that while God has historically spoken to humanity through various figures like Adam and Abraham, He continues to speak to us today amidst a world filled with noise. The core message challenges young people and church members to look beyond superficial aspects of their faith, such as uniforms, badges, or camping trips, and instead focus on true discipleship. This involves helping youth discover Jesus personally, preparing them to recognize God's voice, and training a generation ready to serve with humility, rather than merely participating in activities for the sake of tradition.
A significant portion of the sermon addresses the difficulty of hearing God in an era dominated by competing voices from social media, peers, and entertainment. The speaker illustrates that the problem is often not God's silence but humanity's inability to distinguish His voice from other noises. Using the example of Samuel, who initially could not recognize the Lord's voice because he had no prior experience with it, the message encourages listeners to learn how to identify God's specific communication. This recognition can come through Scripture, where a verse suddenly feels personal and relevant, or through the Holy Spirit guiding one's heart, convicting them of wrong actions, or prompting a desire to apologize. The speaker urges believers to create quality time during prayer to listen rather than just talk, noting that the Holy Spirit often speaks quietly when we feel nervous about doing something evil or when we sense a need to change our direction.
The sermon concludes by defining the response to God's voice as surrender and obedience, drawing directly from Samuel's famous declaration, "Speak Lord, for your servant hears." True surrender is described as giving up one's life, future, education, talents, friendships, and even personal plans to God, thereby removing the pride that once caused Lucifer to fall. The speaker stresses that hearing God must lead to action, citing James 1:22 to warn against being merely hearers of the word without doing it. Just as Samuel obeyed despite his nervousness about delivering difficult news, believers are called to put God's instructions into practice immediately. The final prayer invites the congregation to return to Jesus' feet, asking for forgiveness for ignoring His voice in the past and requesting the strength to not only listen but to become doers of His will for His glory.

Shall we pray as we impark to what the
Lord has seen it better for him to speak
to us this very morning? Shall we pray?
Our heavenly Lord
in history when we read the Bible
it tells us that you usually speak to
your children.
You spoke to Adam. You spoke to Abraham.
You spoke to Samuel. You spoke to many
others. You you spoke to battle. You
spoke to many. And even this very hour
you are going to speak to us. And
therefore, Lord speak. We are listen.
Speak to us from this very beginning up
to the end because you have prayed all
these things believing and trusting in
Jesus' name. Amen. Amen. Amen. Amen. So
um the world pathfinder Sabbath is here
with us the 19th September 2026.
It is a 76th
year since Pathfinder was formed. I
don't have time to go through the
history on how it began but on a
nutshell
one time when um young people had a
campfire a story was told a story was
given with one of the leaders. So it is
through that story in a campfire that uh
the author of the story and the narrator
of the story spoke about issues to do
with pathf finding and therefore a name
pathfinder was born and therefore in
1950 it was put into the entire
world church
that let every church have a club called
Pathfinders
um in our
memory verse that we have been narrating
and I want to appreciate that these
young people uh summarized everything.
They they made it clear uh what it means
and uh and who was told to listen you
know who was told to listen.
They have given it clear that it was
Samuel.
the Lord spoke to him. And this morning
I will uh uh like to let you know uh
that God is still speaking to us and he
has chosen it better to remind us that
he still speaks on this faithful day for
the Pathfinder Sabbath which is
celebrated along the world
and the title the theme is speak
Lord. That is a comma. Speak
Lord.
Speak
Lord. Speak Lord. For the 76 years uh
pathfinders have marched. For 76 years
they have camped. For 76 years they have
learned skills. For 76 years young
people have been trained to serve God
with humility.
But today God is asking something
deeper.
After all our marching, after all our
learn skills,
have we ever listened to him?
After all our camping,
have we ever learned on how to hear the
voice of God? After all the honors that
we have acquired, have we learned on how
to obey God?
After all our pathfinder activities, do
we have Jesus personally?
Because Pathfinder ministry is not
merely about uniforms.
It is not merely about badges.
It is not merely about camping. It is
not merely about matching left, right,
attention. Mm-m. Pathfinder is about
disciplehip. Amen. That is what it
entails. It is about helping a young
person discover Jesus somewhere
someplace. It is about preparing young
people to recognize God's voice.
It is about preparing a generation to
serve.
And that is why today theme IS ALL THAT
POWERFUL.
Speak Lord. Speak Lord.
A world full of noises. You know we live
in a noisy generation.
Our young people hear many voices. Our
children they usually hear many voices.
They hear voices of friends saying
everybody is doing it. You can also do
it.
Social media is saying follow me.
Entertainment is saying this is no more.
Peer pressure says ah don't be
different.
The world says do whatever makes you
happy.
But God
today is is telling us listen to me.
The challenge today is not that God has
stopped speaking. The challenge is that
there is too many other voices competing
for our attention
over TV everywhere. Everywhere streets
everywhere. Many voices competing with
God.
The voice
of God is particular.
And this morning, God is speaking to us.
is reminding us that he is speaking.
I have a few points to make.
Point number one, I want to let you know
that God knows your name.
Wherever you are, you know the church
may not know you.
Pastor may not know you.
Church leadership may NOT KNOW YOU. THE
GOVERNMENT may not know you. Even the
family may not recognize you. Do you
know that there is some of you here who
are here and your own family has got a
group where they communicate and you're
not there
simply because you don't matter.
This morning I'm here to let you know
that God knows you.
GOD KNEW SAMUEL, BUT ISRAEL KNEW SAMUEL
as just a young boy
from a given village. But heaven
recognized Samuel. The book of 1 Samuel
3:4,
the Lord called Samuel and he answered,
"Here I am." Samuel was a young man. HE
WAS SERVING IN THE TEMPLE UNDER ELLIE.
ELLIE WAS THE PASTOR OF THE DAY. HE WAS
LIKE A CARETAKER YOU KNOW A REFUGE A BOY
WHO HAS BEEN BROUGHT BY THE parent
particularly the mother that be here one
night something happened God called
Samuel
Samuel had his name
that is important God did not say hey
boy he called him Samuel
he never said hey young man he called
him by his name Samuel
He never said hey a son of Anna but he
called him by his name. God did not say
hey boy. God called Samuel because God
knew his name. This morning Pathfinder
Pathfinder is listening me in this
church and beyond. I want to let you
know that God knows your name.
Maybe sometimes you feel unnoticed as a
young boy as a young girl in the church.
MAYBE NOBODY APPRECIATES YOU, you know.
MAYBE AT SCHOOL YOU FEEL LIKE nobody
understands you. Maybe you have problems
that you don't tell anybody about. Maybe
you have dreams that nobody knows. MAYBE
YOU ARE STRUGGLING WITH SOMETHING with
something secretly.
But hear this today. God knows your
name. Amen. God knows your name. Can you
mention your name by yourself? More
louder.
Mention your name. Hi. Mention your
name.
So maybe what I've just heard is a
noise. But God knows your name. You know
to others you may make a noise to them.
But before heavens recognizes you, God
knows your name. He knows where you
live. You know, he knows your family. He
knows your struggles. He knows your
gifts. He knows your weaknesses. He
knows your potential. He knows your
future. And the Lord
who knew Samuel's name also knows your
name.
God does not wait until you are old for
him to know you. He don't wait until you
become a youth director. He don't wait
until you become a women ministries
leader. He don't he don't wait until you
become a pastor. He doesn't wait until
you become an elder at your age as a
pathfinder. God knows you.
When I grow older, then I will serve
God. You know, those are a few questions
that we come about. But Samuel was
young. David was young when he faced
Golath. JOSIAH WAS YOUNG when he BECAME
A KING. TIMOTHY WAS YOUNG when Paul
called him into ministry. Mary was young
when God entrusted her with a great
responsibility of carrying Jesus.
God does not say wait until you become
an adult.
Then I will use you. God says I can use
you now. Even today pathfinders who are
with me, God is ready to use you.
Anybody who is here, regardless of your
background, God is ready to use you.
Pathfinder, you don't have to wait until
you become a pastor. I repeat, no, you
don't have to wait UNTIL YOU BECOME A
MASTER GUIDE.
You don't wait until you finish school.
You don't have to wait until you get
married. God can use you today. Can I
see the pathfinders who are saying,
"God, use him.
as you used B as you used Samuel and the
rest. God bless you. Point number two,
learn to recognize God's voice.
Uh for the married people who are here,
you know the voice as a husband, you
have to know the voice of your wife,
right? Even if your wife calls you with
a different number
uh just a segment first step you are
able to recognize her voice unless you
have a certain confusion that you need a
spirit a spiritual
I don't know treatment so that you can
be able to recognize the voice of your
wife and the voice of your husband.
So
uh today
I'm here once again to let you know that
it is good to recognize the voice of
God. You know because there is many
voices around
which are making noises everywhere.
Samuel had a voice but he did not
recognize it in the book of uh in in
verse seven of chapter 3. Now Samuel did
not yet know the Lord, nor was the word
of the Lord yet revealed to him. This
this is one of the most important
lessons in a in a story. Samuel had God,
you know, he just had God. He never had
experience. He never he had never seen
God. He had never had, you know, a
conversation for him to distinguish his
voice from other voices.
He never recognized him, but he just
heard him. Why? because he had not yet
had learned to recognize it. Many people
hear about many people here but do not
recognize.
God may be speaking through scripture
and you have never heard. Do you know
that uh you sitted here there is a time
God spoke to you and you never heard
him?
You know there is a point he spoke to
you directly
and you never heard him. Do you know
that that that there is that strange
voice that you heard
speaking before your ears and you never
recognized? DO YOU KNOW that he has ever
spoke to you even in the scripture
and you've never heard it? By the way, I
can ask you, have you ever opened a
given verse uh when reading it, you read
as if it is you who is written in it?
You just read something and then
something clicks in your mind. How comes
and you close it
and you open it and you open the Bible
again in another in another chapter in
another book and a story which is
narrated there perhaps the book of Acts
perhaps the book of Exodus when you hear
it it is as if the story is all about
you. I'm here to let you know that is
God whispered to you.
Sometimes you find a given sin that you
commit
is mentioned before the verse that you
read. This after this morning I want to
let you know that that is the voice of
the Lord. Learn to recognize it. Yes,
we may not have time to read the Bible.
God may be speaking through our parents
as young people and we say they don't
understand me. You know that is what uh
we young people uh we usually say. You
know mommy you don't understand me.
Daddy is like you don't understand me.
Pathfinders I'm speaking to you.
God may be speaking through a pastor
and what do we say? He is preaching at
me.
And I've ever had an experience of uh a
sermon that I preached a few years ago
and uh uh a member came with a lot of
anger during lunchtime
and I was new.
I was invited
an invitation as of today. So after
preaching then that uh uh an average old
woman came to me with a lot of anger.
pastor
you know
it worried me I don't know this woman
actually in that church I only knew the
pastor
and even I asked the church how many of
you knows me by the way how many of you
who knows me who have ever met me
somewhere
I can see at least Here I have a few
I have a few I can recognize a few faces
that recognizes me. But in that church I
was clean. I was new.
Then I ought to call the pastor that
come and rescue me. She was she was even
she even wanted to fight me because I've
been told by other women by other church
members about her and I've made her to
be the sermon.
You know
when the pastor is preaching
sometimes we tend to say that pastor is
speaking to me is preaching about me.
Young people, pathfinders may say that
no is mom who told p who told pastor
about my behavior. I'm here to let you
know that God may be speaking uh to
pastor to you so that you can understand
that he wants your soul and there is
something which is new which is new that
he want that he wants to use. God may be
speaking through a pathfinder director
to you as a pathfinder and we say they
are too strict.
God may be speaking through the Holy
Spirit and we say, "I'll do what I
want." The problem is not always God's
silence. Sometimes the problem is our
inability to recognize his voice.
Therefore,
how do we know God's voice?
We know God's voice through the Bible.
In the book of 1 Timothy 3:16, the Bible
says, "All scripture is given by
inspiration of God." Amen. When the
Bible speaks to you, THAT IS GOD
SPEAKING TO YOU. If you want to know
God's voice, open your Bible.
Hallelujah. Learn to read the Bible.
God's voice will never contradict his
word. It remains. He is THE ONE WHO WAS
THE ONE WHO is the one who shall be. He
doesn't change. He speaks, he spoke, and
he will speak.
Where again, how again does he speak to
us? It's through prayers. Prayer is not
only talking. Prayer is also listening.
Sometimes we kneel down and tell God
everything.
Then we wind up by saying what? Amen.
And we leave. But today God is staying
is saying stay a little longer in your
prayer.
You know sometimes the way we pray even
the devil himself wonders
especially for food. May God bless the
millions in Jesus name. Even before the
heaven opens you are done.
You watch on how sometimes you pray. You
begin to pray at uh at 9:00, then you
wind up your prayer uh at 5:00 in the
morning
and then you call yourself a prayer
warrior.
Today
God is reminding us that uh he also
speaks to us through the prayers.
When you pray, just create time for
that.
Don't pray as if uh as if a flight
you are going to miss a flight.
HAVE A QUALITY TIME with God.
Have a quality moment at the feet of
Jesus
and allow God to guide you even after
the prayer.
How again does he speak to us in the
book of the book of John chapter 16
verse 13 when he the old spirit when he
the spirit of truth has come he will
guide you into all truth. The Holy
Spirit speaks to the heart. How does he
speaks? He wants you.
There is a time you do something and you
feel no that is the Holy Spirit speaking
to you. There is a time I'm speaking
with with youth. I am going to have
enough time with you come the month of
December.
But this is just a nutshell. When you
hear
and then you feel no
is something
never avoid it. It is the Holy Spirit
who is speaking to you. He wants you.
There is a time you plan to do something
which is evil according to your
understanding is right and therefore you
feel nervous. I'm here to tell you that
it is the Holy Spirit who is speaking to
you. He wants you. The Holy Spirit
directs you. The Holy Spirit convicts
us. The Holy Spirit is there to
encourage us. He guides us. When you
feel that quiet conviction,
don't do that. Stop. When you feel you
need to apologize, do listen when you
feel YOU SHOULD NOT HELP THAT PERSON.
LISTEN when you when when uh you know
when God says uh come to me listen
he is speaking to you. Point number
three
speak Lord.
What does it means? It means surrender.
Speak
Lord
is one means surrender. Some will
eventually learn
what to say in verse 9. Ellie told him
he calls you say speak Lord for your
servant hears. You know he went and
looked for guidance.
Therefore, he noticed the word servant.
Samuel did not say speak Lord because I
want to know the future.
He did not say speak Lord because I want
a blessing.
You know that is where a problem comes
to us humanity particularly the Kenyans.
uh when the Lord is speaking what you
will when once you hear is God who is uh
here with you and he want to speak with
you you know we only we sometimes
retiterate
instead of him speaking to you now is
you speaking to God you know my problem
my child applied for the you know there
is this school fees you know there is
this you know there is this problem you
know uh there is this house that I've
never finished to build. You know, there
is this that thing that I've never that
I've not done with it.
But this young man, but this young man
Samuel
said, "Speak for your servant."
Yes,
your servant has got his. This is a sign
of surrender.
This morning I want to let you know that
it is good to surrender. What does
surrender mean? Surrender means Lord my
life belongs to you. What does surrender
means? Surrender means my future belongs
to you. What does surrender means?
Surrender means to my pathfinders
surrender means my EDUCATION BELONGS TO
YOU. What does surrender means?
Surrender means my talents belongs to
you. What does surrender means?
Surrender means my my friendship BELONGS
TO YOU. WHAT does surrender means?
Surrender means young people my phone
even my phone belongs to you. What does
surrender means? My surrender means my
body belongs to you. What does surrender
means? Surrender means my plans belongs
to you. What does surrender means? My
surrender means my whole life belongs to
you.
Now speak Lord.
It is until we learn on how to
surrender. That is the time the Lord
will have a chance to speak. You know
what is killing us is what killed
Lucifer. Just a single thing called
pride.
No wonder
uh the old man said that uh uh before
you fall what comes ahead
pride.
So it is until we come down is until we
surrender.
It is until we bow. It is until we fully
leave everything and come back to his
feet.
That is the time we'll surrender. And
once we surrender, the Lord will speak
to us. Speak Lord, not speak Lord, but
only tell me what I want to hear.
You know, sometimes we usually like the
sermons that you want to hear. Sometimes
when other when somebody's speaking to
us, you feel like this person should
tell you what you want to hear. Speak
Lord. He never said speak Lord but don't
interfere with my lifestyle.
Not speak Lord but I will decide whether
I obey
but Samuel said speak Lord speak Lord
whatever you say I will follow.
This morning as I conclude I want to
tell you number four hearing God must
lead to obedience.
There is a difference between hearing
and obeying. You can hear your parent
and still disobey. You can hear your
teacher and still disobey. You can hear
your pathfinder director but still
disobey. And unfortunately we can hear
God's word and still disobey. The book
of James 1 verse 22 says but the doers
of the word and not the hearers only. So
we have to be doers. Whatever we hear
from the Lord, it is a high time after
hearing, we put it into action. You know
what God told Samuel. Finally Samuel in
the morning.
Though he was nervous
because it was an information that he
was to give to his superior, to his
leader, to his pastor, to his priests.
But because he ought to obey, he told
him. So therefore, may God really help
us as young people, as a church,
so that we can do what heaven would like
us to do.
It is my prayer that uh the pathfinders
of Nairobi central
and the pathfinders of the entire
conference of central Kenya conference,
the pathfinders of the whole world
may learn on how to fully surrender. Not
only the pathfinders but the entire
membership of the church may learn on
how to fully surrender before the feet
of Jesus. How many with me who are
saying Jesus
teach me to surrender teach me to listen
to your voice and forgive me because
there is a time I'd avoided your voice
and I've hearkened to different voices
but this morning Jesus I'm saying
forgive me and teach me so that I can
hear you speaking Lord if you are there
please rise up with me as we do
the final prayer
for this.
Shall we pray?
Our heavenly master,
before you and before your throne of
grace, we come.
We come because we are your children.
We are like Samuels of these days.
whom you have called two times earlier.
And now today through the early of the
World Pathfinder Sabbath,
you have reminded us that when you call,
we should say,
"Speak,
Lord, your servant is listening."
Honestly, we have heard different
voices.
Not limited to what our peers tells us,
not limited to our friends, no not
limited to to to uh even to the social
media. We have listened to many.
But today Jesus, we are saying sorry.
Return us as a church. return us as
young people to your feet so that we can
hear your voice when you are speaking to
us. Help us to grow as you speak to us.
Help us to surrender as you speak to us.
And also let us help us to execute after
listening. Teach us to obey for there is
no any other way but to trust and to
obey.
Be with these young people, the
pathfinders.
Be with the parents. Be with the
leadership. Be with everyone who is
listening.
That God, we may not only be listeners,
but also we may be doers for the glory
of your name. Thank you because you have
heard us. Thank you because Jesus, you
have done what is possible. And thank
you because you have called us. Thank
you because you are a change of lives.
Change users once again because you have
prayed all these things believing and
trusting in Jesus holy name. Amen.
