Video summary
The video investigates significant mechanical issues with the Consecrate spell in the WoW Forever beta, specifically focusing on a controversial nerf to its area-of-effect damage and various bugs affecting its consistency. The host begins by testing the spell's baseline damage, noting that it has been reduced from eight ticks of damage in previous expansions like Burning Crusade and Vanilla to only six ticks in the current build. Furthermore, unlike traditional holy spells, Consecrate can now critically hit and miss on individual ticks, which the creator finds problematic for a ground-targeting ability. The most glaring issue identified is how spell power scaling works; while the tooltip suggests bonus damage applies to all targets, testing reveals that spell power only affects the first four enemies who enter the area. Any subsequent targets or those outside the initial group receive a flat, unmodified damage amount, drastically reducing the spell's overall effectiveness in multi-target scenarios.
A particularly bizarre and frustrating bug discovered during testing involves the vertical positioning of characters relative to the spell's area. The host demonstrates that if a target is standing on higher ground or a slope, causing even a slight difference in elevation (Z-axis) between the caster and the mob, the game incorrectly calculates the damage. Instead of receiving the full bonus damage intended for the first four targets, these mobs only take the reduced flat damage meant for enemies beyond the limit. This "elevation bug" causes significant threat reduction, as mobs standing on hills or uneven terrain effectively bypass the spell's primary damage mechanic. The creator theorizes that the game treats the Consecrate area as a flat plane starting from the ground level; if a target is vertically higher than this plane, they are excluded from the bonus damage calculation, leading to inconsistent and unpredictable results during gameplay.
In conclusion, the video argues that while Blizzard's intention to nerf AoE threat is understandable, the current implementation of Consecrate is flawed and requires a complete re-evaluation rather than just numerical adjustments. The host suggests that a better solution would be to revert the spell to its previous scaling model but with lower base damage and a reduced spell power coefficient, perhaps around 50% instead of the current roughly 75%. Additionally, the erratic behavior regarding target counting, individual tick misses, and elevation sensitivity indicates that the spell's core mechanics are not yet stable. The creator encourages the community to continue testing and reporting these nuances, emphasizing that being proven wrong during beta testing is a natural part of the development process. Ultimately, the goal is for Blizzard to fix these systemic issues before launch to ensure Consecrate functions as a reliable and fair component of the Paladin kit.

I read somewhere that people were mad
about Blizzard's slowing nerf, but I
think it's fine. It needs to be nerfed.
It was stupid before. And they nerfed
all AoE. Speaking of nerfing all AoE.
Okay, so I need to test this thing with
consecrate. Now, this is only a level
eight mob. I'm going to take off red
aura.
Uh, my consecrate is doing two damage,
but it crits. I don't think consecrate
should be able to crit.
Wait, what? It only does six damage in
the very center of it.
Let's put some spell power on. If I were
to take my spell power maze. Okay.
Wait. 39 8
two again. Hold on. What? Where did
Okay. How did I do 39 damage? Oh, touch
of the grave. Touch of the grave procs
on consecration. Okay, bro. Okay, if it
procs on more. Okay, I need a healer
outside. Okay, we got to test
Consecrate, man. They've already
adjusted a few things with Consecrate.
They have. So, this information might
change very shortly after this video
comes out. Who knows? But I think this
is important to know to understand like
kind of the development and and what
they're doing and how they're
approaching things. I'm going to show
off a rank one consecrate here in
Burning Crusade. And this is with zero
spell power. I believe I have zero spell
power on my gear right now. Okay, let's
go on this old tailbook stag. If I drop
this consecrate, it does eight damage,
nine damage for rank one. Okay, I wonder
why it's eight nine damage.
It should just be eight. Strength of
Hani. That's why 5% increase all damage.
That's right. So, eight damage a tick.
Now, if we go back here, here's what
consecrate does in the in classic plus
right now in the forever beta.
Consecrates the land beneath the
paladin, doing 16 holy damage over 8
seconds to enemies who enter the area.
The first four enemies who enter the
area will take an additional 32 damage
over 8 seconds. This is worded really
weird. I don't like it. I think they got
to find a way to rephrase this. But
essentially how this works, the first
four people in the consecrate, the first
four enemies will take 48 damage. So
they will take less than what you take
in Burning Crusade and vanilla, which is
64 for rank one. Now in Burning Crusade
vanilla, it was 64 for everybody. Okay,
for everybody it was it was 64. Now
you're doing only 48 damage for four
targets and then beyond that it's 16
holy damage. It's much much less. So
this is a big nerf. Now there's a few
factors to this and there's a few things
to consider with this. One of those
things is spell power coefficient which
you know to put it into perspective.
Let's let's give ourselves we have zero
spell power in Burning Crusade. Let's
put on so let's put on an item with 25
spell power. 26 versus 25. That's fine.
I'm putting on these shoulders that have
26 spell power. It's a difference of
one. I want to get a another baseline
here. It's per hit is eight. Now I have
strength of the Helani. So I'm going to
go somewhere else to do this so I don't
have that 5% damage buff again. We have
24 spell power. Never mind. So I have
the same amount of spell power in
Burning Crusade and in classic. So if I
take this rank one, I am going to go and
hit this rank one consecrate just to get
numbers. So it's 10 per tick. 10 nine
per tick, right? 10 per tick. Sometimes
it just shifts a little bit. So it was
eight base. Whenever I put 24 spell
power, it's 10. Now if I look at it
here, and this is the reason why I'm
doing this, the answer to, you know, why
why am I even doing this? Why am I
testing it this way? It's not so much
that I'm trying to compare the Burning
Crusade or the vanilla to classic plus.
I'm trying to differentiate between the
two to learn the specifics of the spell
because it's a very powerful spell. It's
a big part of the Paladin kit and a lot
of different types of different styles
of gameplay. Okay, so now we're finally
going to test the WoW Forever version of
this with zero spell power. So we're
going to hit consecrate on Craven
Morbrains. All right,
so this is now doing six damage base
instead of eight damage base. The damage
did get nerfed and keep in mind this
does like full damage only to the first
four targets. Next, I want to put on my
scepter of the abandoned for 24 spell
power. So now my spell power matches the
Burning Crusade version. Now, one thing
you'll notice on the Burning Crusade
version, in the original classic
version, your tool tip does not change
with spell power. So, right here, I have
bonus damage 24. And here it still says
64 holy damage. Whereas, whenever I have
bonus damage 24 here, spell damage 24
here. This went from 32 additional
additional 32 damage to additional 50
damage. So, what are we seeing here?
Over 8 seconds, by the way. So,
additional 50 damage over 8 seconds. So
the difference here is 18 consecrate
spell power ratio. Burning crusade 95%
to 95.2. What you're looking at in
Burning Crusade and in vanilla is like a
95% spell power ratio, which is why
we're getting like ticks for 10. So like
95% of 24 added to 64, it gets you to
about 88 damage. So then you make it a
little bit less than that and that's why
we're getting these like 10 11 ticks.
Now, in WoW Forever, what they have done
across the board, they've increased
spell power ratio a little bit. They've
put a bigger emphasis on the spell power
ratio at lower ranks. So, the 1 to 20.
Now, things are going to change as we
get higher level, but I'm specifically
talking about the early game experience.
And I do think there there needs to be a
re-evaluation of the game experience in
each period of testing. there's a bigger
emphasis on spell power on weapons and
they wanted casters to to have their
weapon matter a lot more which is why
there's a higher spell power ratio
before level 20 in the original game
that was all scaled down. So that's why
you have such big spell power numbers on
your weapon now like 24 on a weapon at
level 17. Still a little high if you ask
me based on everything else but that's a
separate discussion. Let's actually get
to some real testing. If we go to
consecrate consecrate does six damage
as opposed to eight. Now, it can also
crit now. I don't like this. I don't
like that it can crit. I don't like that
dots can crit any of that personally,
but it can crit now. Scepter of the
abandoned. Whenever we put 24 spell
power on and then we walk into him and
then do that,
it goes to 8 N.
So, it's doing a little bit less damage
per than it does in vanilla and Burning
Crusade. Here's something else that is
kind of an issue. If you look at
consecrate, it mentions how if you're
not one of the first four people hit
with a consecrate, it does less damage.
People have noticed we have a a slew of
very noble paladins, and many of them
have noticed, hey, something's wrong
with consecrate, which is why I'm even
like going through and doing this
testing and doing this video. If you're
out on the outer edge of this thing,
oh well, it seems like it's fine now.
Miss Consequent can miss. That's cringe.
I think it should not be able to miss
and it should not be able to crit. I
hate that. That's crazy.
Okay, if you're on the outer edge of the
consecrate as a player, he's only
getting hit for two damage,
which is the damage that he receives
from here. 8 seconds, eight ticks, 16
damage. So, he's getting hit with the
not first four people damage. That's
bad. So, it's not actually checking how
many targets are getting hit by the
consecrate. Now, Craven, here's what I'm
going to do. I would like to drop a
consecrate. And will you walk all the
way through it after I drop it? Just
come all the way through.
Okay. Eight. Miss. Eight. Keep going.
Keep going. Keep going. Keep going. Keep
going. Keep going. Two. Okay. So, if he
it changes. Yeah. RP walk is good. RP
walk is good. Keep walking through.
Eight. 8 two miss. Okay, that miss
probably would have been a two. Let's do
it one more time.
Miss 8 9 two
two two two 8 10. That's looking at it
with the scepter of the abandoned. So,
something else I should point out here.
Spell power did not increase that two
damage. Oh, wait. It's only 32% vanilla.
No, no. You're right. You're right.
You're right. I'm fried. I'm fried. I'm
fried. But it doesn't matter because
because they're basing this off of
Burning Crusade. None none of this
matters. None of None of the vanilla
Burning Crusade spell power ratio stuff
matters. You guys are You guys are
right. You guys are right. It's been
It's been years for me and I forgot the
flat damage from the ranks is the same.
So here's the next thing I want to look
at. So this is a bug with Consecrate
apparently that if you're on the
outside,
it's not doing two damage anymore.
That's so odd.
Oh, see now it's doing two damage.
What?
I'm going to I'm going to clip this VOD
and send it to some devs to to look at.
Okay, let's let's get equidistant. Let's
get equidistant here. Let's come down
here. I think I think being on the slope
is making an impact. Wait, this is so
interesting, dude. Yeah, it might be a
Z-axis thing. Stand right here, Craven.
Okay, now you consecrate.
Two damage. Okay. It's definitely
something with the elevation.
Okay. So, if I do this to you now,
you're taking six and I'm taking two.
Interesting.
So, if you go down
also, I'm not getting the debuff. Now,
you consecrate here and I will get the
debuff.
Interesting.
That was a touch of the grave, that 44.
So, two dam. Yeah, it's definitely like
if you were lower on the on the Z-axis.
Here, here's a here's a list of
everything that we've learned so far.
First four targets, spell power only
affects first four targets. spell power
ratio seems to be roughly 75%
of the spell power applied over eight
ticks. So what is that? 75 divid by 8.
So roughly 9.4%
spell power per tick for the first four
targets. If you are higher on the Zaxis,
your target will not be considered part
of the first four enemies and will only
receive the non-modified
damage for greater than four targets.
Each tick can individually miss. Each
tick can individually
crit.
Each uh
tick can individually
proc. Wait, I've only seen touch of the
grave proc on the first tick of
consecrate. Does not mean it can't proc
on others. Wait a second. Look at this.
Even right next to him, even that little
difference of elevation, you see that?
Even that even that little bit of
difference in elevation is enough.
Now, if I come and I stack and then I
jump and consecrate,
even jumping and consecrate. Now, now if
I raise them, let's see if I raise and
then I raised it into the into the right
spot of the Z-axis. See? So, I went down
here. Look at this. Watch this. Watch
this again. Watch this again. I go down,
jump, consecrate, and then move it up.
See, it was two at first, and then I
moved it at the proper point on the
plane to where it matched. Because if
you're higher, if your target is higher
than you, you're good. If you're higher
than your target, it's bad. It's insane.
Yeah. Isn't that not crazy? Let's take
all these. Now, we we talked about how
the first four mobs of consecrate will
take that bonus damage, right? Okay. So,
we are looking at 1 2 3 4 5 six targets.
Okay, six targets. Let's make sure we're
all on the on the right part of the axes
here. Okay, so they're all higher than
me. They should all be getting four of
these six will be getting the bonus
damage. Okay, four of these six. So, I'm
going to go ahead and consecrate.
One of them took a touch of the grave.
Okay, so we're seeing it should be 888
22.
88822.
Okay, these are still the same for the
first four. The thing I want to test in
this combat, they're going to run away
and then they will come back. What I
want to know, it says the first four
enemies that enter. How does this affect
whenever something dies? Whenever
something runs away. So, is it always
four enemies? So, the way that we're
going to figure this out is by hoping
these guys run. I think a bunch of these
guys will run. Ready?
Consecrate.
So,
okay. So, those last few ticks, you
might have to slow it down. And look at
these.
They weren't all taking.
Hold on. This is the way to do it. Right
here. I got I got to take a bonus guy.
See? So, there's three guys in here now,
right? Wait, no. Oh, cuz when they run
away, they release leash. Damn. I
actually didn't know that. Is that
right? That they can run away and then
run back and they reset. I think that's
another bug. I don't think they're
supposed to reset on the run back. I
think they're they're running away from
leash range. They're running out of
leash range. When they turn back to
aggro you, it's like an aggro. That's
that that resets the leash at the aggro
point. That's what I think is happening.
So, that's another bug. They should fix
that cuz they should come back to kill
you. So, I want him to run away. Let's
see if he runs away and then and then re
resets. It's crazy cuz we're like
finding out other bugs in the process.
So, he runs away. Now, he targets me
again. So, is his leash reset? I was
standing right here. I moved a little
bit. So, let's see. Want to move? I
still haven't hit him. So, his leash
should not reset.
H.
Why did that happen?
Weird. Why is he not leashing now? Like,
at this point, he should have leashed.
Why is he not leashing now?
Cuz he should he they should have
stopped attacking at this point. Is the
leash resetting when he hits me? Even
though I'm not hitting him back. Like
this is crazy. Is that you kite? No.
You're supposed to keep hitting him. I'm
not hitting him.
Dude, we're finding out so many little
random bugs.
I'm just going to keep going until until
Oh,
in a retail if they hit you or stand in
place, it resets the leash. So, it's
retail leashing.
Interesting.
They should change that.
Wait, but it just randomly
the hell. Let's see what happens here.
So, so look at this. He dies. I think it
also like what we saw there, it it also
does not if something dies and it was
part of the first four, it doesn't
increase the damage on the other target
as part of the four doesn't really feel
great. Wow. Yeah. So, consecrate is like
kind of scuffed. I think this should
just reduce the damage. Okay, I'll watch
this video. So, this guy this guy thinks
it's bugged as well. have one spell
damage. Every instance of damage that I
do is going to be increased by one. But
that's not how it actually works. So,
I've hit level 20 in the beta and that
gives us access to consecrate. So, I
decided to do some testing and what I
found will surprise you. So, when you
add one spell power to your character in
World of Warcraft, how does that convert
into
>> I'm going to skip some of this video cuz
there's some things that we already
know, we've already talked about.
>> It does. Now, little old me back in 2004
thought if I add one spell damage, every
instance of damage that I do is going to
be increased by one. But that's not how
it actually works.
>> It's spread across the eight ticks.
>> So, to calculate the bonus damage, we
take the spell damage that's on our gear
and we multiply it by the coefficient.
Now, the default 1 one spell damage
scaling in World of Warcraft is based
off a 3 and 1/2 second spell. Now, from
casting spells, it's super easy, right?
Because if it's a 1 and 1/2 second cast,
we take 42.8% of our spell damage. Yeah,
it's about 43.
>> Super simple. Okay, so what about
consecrate where you're laying damage on
the ground and it
>> by the way that 42.86 or whatever it is
that also is for instant cast spells.
That's like the typical like the 1.5 is
like the base
>> more like a typically. Okay, so with
consecrate the total bonus damage
applies to the entire spell cast. So, we
take our spell damage, then we times it
by the coefficient, and then we can
figure out the bonus damage per tick,
which is spell damage. Oh, times the
coefficient, and then divide that by
eight because every consecrate ticks
eight times.
>> Right now, that's true.
>> Everybody knows that prop paladin got so
much better in TBC, but they might not
understand why. And that's actually
because in classic, we had a total
coefficient
>> of 0.33 on consecrate.
>> That's true. So for every hundred heal
>> I mean there's a bunch of reasons why it
got better but um this is just one part
of it. Okay. So what did he find out
here? Let's see. Let's see how this
compares with what we found out.
>> Okay. This is the same as what we
figured%
>> coefficient spell damage
>> and then there's no coefficient on the
there's no scaling on the other ones.
>> Interesting. And a big change to the way
cons works. Now this is where it gets
weird because I think I found a pretty
big bug. Okay. So, we are out here in
Elwin Forest and we're going to do some
cons testing. So, right now I've taken
off all my spell power gear and let's go
drop a cons on a Mangi Wolf.
>> Mangi
six, which is what we're expecting to
see
with no spell power. And it is
interesting to note that Consecrate can
now crit,
>> right? Okay. So, this is this is the
same stuff that we we figured out as
well. cons. We aggro the wolf. We walk
him into the conceal
bug incoming.
Now, here's what happened. The reason
why this is happening, we have now
figured out is because this point where
it's cast and this point they there's a
difference in elevation there. And if
there's a difference in elevation where
the consecrates base elevation is higher
on the on the Z plane Z-axis, then it's
not going to be considered as part of
the first four targets. And he's getting
hit for twos on the edge of the cons.
And we do it again. He's getting hit for
six. And we put him in con range on the
edge. He's getting hit by two. Now, let
me show you how impactful this is when
we actually have proper gear on. Okay,
so now we've got our 34
>> because you have scale. So you have
scaling on the initial thing, but you
don't have scaling on the plus two,
right? So it just doesn't do anything.
So obviously it's going to be a massive
difference.
>> Bring him in.
>> So there's a difference in elevation.
>> Same elevation. And then on the next
hit.
>> Okay, that was interesting. It kept
doing two damage.
>> Well, he's still lower.
>> You're still lower.
>> He needs to pull it up.
>> Yeah. Yeah. So that's a pretty big
difference.
>> I thought that Con was broken if they
stand on the edge. Now he's taking twos
again. If we move him then he started
taking nines.
>> It's because it's because the plane the
Z-axis
>> than I originally thought the
verticality.
>> Now he's taking twos. We move him he
takes tens.
>> So this is an 80% threat reduction for
AoE on our four.
>> Well, does he does he realize this in
the video? By the way, whenever you're
like beta testing and people make videos
on this stuff all the time people will
make videos and they will be wrong about
something. Even even I will at some
point I will do this. I mean, it's
probably even even even now like maybe
this video I'm going to talk about
something and it will be wrong and it'll
be found out that it's wrong within 24
hours, right? But anytime you're like
learning new things, testing out things
in the beta, trying out new stuff,
things spread like wildfired and and
people immediately take it as fact, but
that's because they don't do the testing
themselves, right? So, like we figured
out why this happens already. It's and
it and it's because of the verticality
of it.
>> Granted, don't stress. It's a beta. soon
as Blizzard learn about this, we'll
probably get a fix relatively quickly.
>> So, so there's no like there's no you
can't knock on anybody for being wrong
about something where it's like, hey,
like I'm just trying to make people
aware of this bug cuz this still is
bugged and it still is weird and it
still should not be doing that. But we
just don't know the reason why it's
doing that at the time of this video.
But at this point now, it's like I do
know like whenever he recorded this,
like we didn't know and then now I do
know because I just tested it. I can't
actually determine what how it's
breaking at this point because
originally I
>> some people start testing just to tell
you that you're wrong.
>> Yeah.
>> And that I seem to like I tested it a
little bit before I started.
>> People people there people are just they
want to say no you're wrong like like so
much more than like being helpful. But
that's what I'm saying. My my point is
that why am I saying this is to be
encouraging of people to try things and
test things but also to to understand
like hey take everything with a grain of
salt at the same time. you know,
>> recording this segment. And I thought
that's how it was working.
So, we put him on the edge.
>> See, because of the verticality.
>> Okay, that he took he took two twos on
the edge there.
>> Now, weird things happening.
>> Moving the monster around inside the con
does seem to refresh.
>> So, that was a weird one. Let's do this
again based on what we just saw there
cuz he went up. Now, maybe there's a
range of like the consecrate is like,
let me let me pull out the paint shop.
Maybe it's like
ground. Maybe this is the ground. And
then we'll call this consecrate. And
consecrate drops like an invisible thing
here. And it does the damage like this.
Okay.
So, if you are actually just for the
sake of making it easier to read, let's
take it up here. Right. This is your
consecrate damage. So, how it probably
works is if you take this right here,
this let's say that the black line is
the ground. Okay, the black line is the
ground. Let's put you on a hill. I think
what's happening is it probably drops
like a cake on the ground, an invisible
cake. And then if you're within the the
the vertical plane of this invisible
cake, it's not a lie, it's real. But if
you're within the vertical plane of this
cake, then you are going to take the the
proper damage that you're supposed to.
But the cake ends whenever it touches
the ground. The player, the damage they
take is calculated from where their feet
are, right? Where their feet are on the
ground. How do we know this? Because
keep your feet on the ground. That's
why. So, no, that's not why. Uh, but
that's how it does it. Okay, it's there.
So when you go down on the plane and
you're you're now outside of the cake
range, if you're down on the plane of
the cake range, you're going to take two
damage. But here, the ground can be like
right here and you're in cake, you're in
the cakes vertical range. So then you're
still there. But if you go up, so what
does this mean? This means you go minus
two lower on the Z-axis very quickly and
you go min you go minus two damage or
sorry, two damage uh lower on the Z-axis
like immediately almost. And then you go
to two damage. Not immediately. You got
to be a little bit higher up. It's still
the same thing. So, how we're gonna test
this is we're gonna take this guy right
here. And this is a pretty nice looking
hill. With my explanation, this is a
great hill to die on. If you go here,
you saw the consecrate animation go
flat. And you saw the the gas. Pretend
that gas is the the the vertical range
of the cake. So, I'm going to do that
one more time. So, you go down on this
and then it's two damage. Now I'm gonna
pull him up into the cake after I do it.
I'm gonna do it one more time. Then I'm
gonna pull him up into the cake. All
right, everybody taking notes? So I pull
him up into the cake. And now he takes
eight damage. Right. So now I'm going to
do this on the flip side here. And
actually I'm just going to I'm just
going to take another enemy. I'm going
to do this with another enemy cuz cuz it
needs more health. So let's take it with
this guy. And we are going to move him
in the opposite direction. Okay. When we
had him here, he immediately took two
damage like right next to me. So now
he's going to be higher up. So he's
going to be within the vertical plane of
this imaginary cake that we're talking
about. It's not it's not a lie. It's
just imaginary.
So he's still higher up. And it's like,
okay, you're good. But this this higher
up is not going to last forever. So I'm
going to do this one more time. I'm
going to go cake and then I'm going to
cut him all the way across. And he's
going to go to two damage again at some
point.
See, two damage. So you see that the
distance the the the vertical range of
that cake is just higher because the
cake starts at the ground floor. It
starts at where this animation you can
literally see the line. You can
literally see the line of this animation
of consecrate. You see that right there.
But then eventually it pulled it up but
it was much harder because that that
range of that cake. Personally I don't
think that the way they currently design
consecrate is good. If they really want
to hurt AoE, I think the easy solution
is just to make it do less damage and to
not scale as as well as him burning
crusade. If they if that's really what
they want to do, just make it do less
less base damage and like 50% scaling.
And I think that's fine. This is what we
know about Consecrate after all this
testing everything you've seen. We
watched that video and and we cross
referenced it a little bit to some of
the stuff that we did. And like I said,
I think it's a good video and I don't
think people should be discouraged of
making videos testing stuff and being
afraid of being wrong. Uh even though it
can be annoying if something is wrong
and people are spreading like
misinformation, that's not the case.
This is a new game. It's a new scenario.
Uh there's there's a bunch of new stuff
and I'm going to do it. Other people are
going to do it. We're going to talk
about something. Oh, look, wait, this
thing's bug. Oh, this thing's not right.
Wait, something's weird here. And then
you're going to be like quote proven
wrong. But whether you're proven wrong
or proven right doesn't matter. What
matters is that you are proven, if that
makes sense. part of the science of
learning the game and helping beta test
and actually working through things to
actually, you know, hey, let's figure
this out. And maybe there's maybe
there's some truth in what we're saying.
Maybe there's we're testing something
wrong. All that kind of stuff. Again,
this guy's right about most of the stuff
he's saying. It's just like the little
nuances. More than anything, we got
explanations for some of the nuances
where he was like, "Wait, why does this
happen? Why is that happening?" So,
anyway, at least this is my assumption
of how the spell works. And uh I want to
talk about what we know. Uh spell power
only affects the first four targets. We
already knew that by looking at the tool
tip. Spell power ratio is about 75% of
the spell power applied over eight
ticks, which comes out to roughly like
9.4%
spell power per tick for the first four
targets. Then we have then we talked
about the planes. We talked about the
cake, right? That's what I keep calling
it. So, if you're higher on that
vertical axis, that Z-axis, then your
target will not be considered part of
the first four enemies, and you'll only
receive the non-modified damage. You
won't get the bonus damage for greater
than four targets. If you're lower, it
seems fine, but that's only because that
cake is it the cake starts at the at the
ground floor, right? But if you're
enough higher, you'll go out of the cake
range. And that's what we saw in that
video where he was like, "What what the
hell's going on here? Why does it work
like this like this?" Cuz he was on a
slope. We also know that each tick can
individually miss. Each tick can
individually crit. We've seen touch of
the grave proc on the first tick but on
no other tick of consecrate. Other
people have been saying on dot classes
that touch the grave. This is the undead
ratio will go on the first cast of a dot
but not on the subsequent ticks. So
maybe it's the same way if maybe it
works similar to a dot. If something
dies and it was part of the first four.
Okay. If something dies and it was part
of the first four targets, that first
four doesn't transfer over to another
target. So like four targets are getting
the bonus. So you can't get that like
scale damage until you cast consecrate
again. And I just don't think that feels
very good. So with all these points
being said and looking at all this
testing, I really think the best
solution for them having the goal of
wanting to reduce AOE threat, make AoE a
little bit worse, I think they should
just make consecrate work like it used
to. but weaker if that's really what
they want to do. At least I would like
to see them try that in the beta. And I
feel like being mobile, being agile, and
just, hey, let's rip the band-aid off
and let's just change the spell like
tomorrow, like it's Monday, you know,
hey, we're in the office Monday. Hey,
Jimmy, push out a hot fix to consecrate
and let's just see what happens for for
two days and just see see how the spell
is different and see what people notice
and what people learn. Let's say you
want to reduce the damage. Instead of 64
at rank one like in Burning Crusade and
vanilla, let's say you make it 48. And
then instead of the 95ish close to 1:1
scaling that you have in Burning
Crusade, maybe you make it 50% scaling.
Right now it's 75% scaling. Maybe maybe
you make it 50% scaling on all targets
instead of 75 on the first four. That's
my guess. That's my solution. In vanilla
it was 33% or like roughly 33%. I like
the 50% idea. However, we were way too
early into the game. Now it's going to
feel before it's 60. So, that's a really
strong point. So, when I'm talking about
the 50% and I'm talking about the damage
values, keep in mind, and this goes for
everything across the board, we
shouldn't really be caring that much
about the direct values because we don't
know how something's going to scale
until level 60. But what we do know is
how the spell works. That's the most
important thing, the mechanics of how
things work, the systems in the game,
how they work. So that solution is a the
way that solution works is like yeah,
you can tune the numbers later, but I
think that's what they should do. We'll
see. I hope you guys enjoyed the video.
That's that's like a full breakdown of
like all the consecration stuff because
people have been talking about it. I I
mean I noticed it too and then somebody
linked me the video and then we kind of
like went and cross reference their
stuff and that was uh like Devlin is uh
Devlin Tanks is the guy. So uh great. I
mean, honestly, it's a good video by him
and and and I think testing stuff and
and trying to learn more things. You
should be very encouraged to do that.
Uh, and sometimes you're going to be
right, sometimes you're going to be
wrong. Sometimes you're not going to be
you're going to miss things, but that's
why we do this. And, uh, I think
everybody should be I think I think you
did a great job and I think everybody
should be like, yeah, like let's let's
keep trying to figure stuff out together
in the beta. This is cool, you know? So,
anyways, thank you guys so much for
watching the video. You guys have been
unbelievably supportive. The editors
have been owning. We've been just
cranking out content non-stop. Paladin
stuff. We have We have stuff for other
classes coming. There's going to be a
lot of testing, a lot of WoW Forever,
you know, beta stuff, classic plus
stuff. I love it. It's been This has
been wonderful. I'm incredibly
encouraged. I'm very happy with with the
way things are going. Am I satisfied?
Absolutely not. I think there's a lot of
stuff that they need to work on, but I'm
very happy with where we are right now.
Very happy, but not satisfied. It's
important. So, anyways, thank you guys
for watching. You can follow me
anywhere. Everything is SFAN TV. So
follow me everywhere. Don't follow me in
real life. And I'll see you guys next
time. Thanks for watching. Bye
everybody.
