Video summary

In the concluding segment of the program, host Blessie welcomes Brenda Asan, a licensed counseling psychologist and founder of the Untapped Soul Foundation, to discuss her book *The Untapped Soul*, which transforms personal pain and experiences into literature through a Christ-centered lens. Brenda explains that she wrote the book after realizing in her psychological studies that humans are shaped by their experiences and often carry brokenness; consequently, she sought a solution rooted in scripture. The book is designed as an interactive tool featuring "over to you" sections where readers journal on specific questions, a process Brenda emphasizes for healing trauma by allowing individuals to express emotions without fear of judgment. She clarifies that psychology and Christianity do not contradict but must be integrated, warning that separating them can lead to spiritual darkness or emotional numbness. The discussion delves into the core needs of the soul—love, primarily from God; safety rooted in healthy attachment; justice involving boundaries and values; and rest—and explains how unmet needs lead to emotional death or burnout. Brenda outlines the "genesis of brokenness" starting from Adam and Eve to help readers uproot deep-seated trauma patterns rather than just managing symptoms. She defines psychological challenges as encompassing the mind, will, and emotions, noting that while Christians may try to ignore emotions, Jesus embodied human feelings. Regarding healing, she advises viewers to sit down with themselves and the Holy Spirit to identify wounds, reminding them that while everyone has soul issues requiring lifelong work to become more like Christ, one's past experiences do not define their identity in Him. When addressing addictions, Brenda stresses compassion over judgment, reminding viewers that addicts still deserve dignity, love, safety, and justice. She advises those struggling with addiction to first decide to stop and eventually succeed; if immediate cessation isn't possible, they should continue trying to reduce usage. The segment acknowledges the presence of various attendees from locations such as Kenya, Buura Kakamega, Rojo, Kilgore Nick, and Nakuru Subukia, thanking them for their live attendance during the morning session on the Y24 channel. The program concludes with a promotion of social media handles for Betsy Blessing and Eliza Kimmani, inviting viewers to tune in again tomorrow for more content. Brenda also provides contact details for obtaining the book via phone or social media under "Untapped Soul" or her name, Brenda Asan, ensuring that interested individuals can access this resource for their personal growth and healing journey.

Good morning to you once again. It's exactly 9 minutes past 9 in the a.m. Yes. And this is our last segment here in Y in the morning. It's an amazing day, a beautiful day that the Lord has given unto us. And we've been here with By blessing in the morning and then we were talking about phones and technology kindo in our uh second segment. And now this is the last part where we're speaking about how you get to turn your pain and your experiences into literature. Yes, most of you I should write a book. Yes, you should write a book. And that's why we are here uh to tell you and help you see how you can turn your pain or experiences. It doesn't have to be pain. At times it could be joy or some good experiences. You fly out to places, adventures, vacations. You can write a book and let us experience you know. Yes. So like today we're going to be talking about that. And I'm not here alone. Oh yes, I am here with I've told you that I'll be here with an amazing lady and she is here with us in the house. Her name is Brenda Asan and she is the author of the untapped soul and also the founder of the untapped foundation. And um this is a foundation or a group where she works with young people and helps them to um understand themselves emotionally uh and their psychological issues and she's a a certified uh psychologist and she is also a bornagain Christian. So she's bringing in the aspect of psychology and um Christianity together and helping us to understand um how our lives are and understanding ourselves emotionally. And uh the book I am talking about is this amazing. Yes, it is a very amazing amazing piece of uh work. Personally I have mine. Yeah, I have a copy of this amazing book and I have started getting to read about it. but she's going to be telling us about how she came about to write uh this book. The book now the author herself is here. Let's get to hear from her. Good morning. >> Good morning. >> Say hi to my people. >> Hello everyone. My name is Brenda Asan, a licensed counseling psychologist and I'm very very happy to be here. >> Okay. kind of she's a de young woman with very few words. All right. So, uh let's start with um when was that moment for you that you realized you know what I think um from the experience I have as a person as well as um the kind of work you do as a psychologist I can write a book. What was that moment for you? >> Wow. Thank you for the question. I would say learning psychology in campus taught me that we are products of our experiences. We are products of what we went through. So I was coming to a point in my life and I was wondering why do I act a certain way? Why do I have certain addictions? Why do I have certain habits? And so I started to study not just my own life but the lives of people around me. And I came to a conclusion that we are all broken in one way or another. So what's the solution? There has to be a solution. So the solution for me was deeply rooted in Christ and in the healing that he provided for us on the cross. But also it I I also got to see from the scriptures that psychology was like all over scripture. So I was like okay so why why don't I make this um something that someone can get access to not just in bits but like in a whole book. Yeah. So that's why I wrote the book. >> Um now maybe for someone that feels like reading is not their thing but I'm very sure cuz I like I've said I have gotten to read uh this copy although I'm not yet done. uh but I can tell you that it's very very important uh that you get to read it. How how do you convince somebody how do you tell or encourage someone that reading is very important especially when it comes to getting to understand themselves emotionally. >> Yeah. So I would say reading is and has always been an act. Um that also helps psychologically it helps the brain. Um it it also helps you just calm down. It's it's like u a tool that God created for us. Like we have the Bible, right? We read the Bible. We don't it's not as effective when you just listen, but it's it's more effective when you read something. So reading I believe even if I know in this culture nowadays people don't really like to read and all but I would say that it grounds you more than you think. So yeah we should go back to reading cuz it's not the same as just me uh having a podcast. I know podcasts are important but when you read um and al especially with my book I have um sections where I've written they're called over to you sections where you get to write your own experience or the questions that I've asked you you get to answer them. Yeah. So it's more it's not just a reading kind of book. It's more like an interactive book where you also get to write your own experiences. You get to answer the questions that I've asked. Yeah. Now when you uh mention about that I think that connects us to journaling which is one way uh that is one way for someone to heal from traumatic experiences because once you write what you're feeling it's a way of expressing yourself. So maybe um you can tell us why journaling is as important and why you're making sure that we write as we get to read your book because you've said there is the over to you segment. Why was it necessary for you to create such a segment for us to get to write down um as we get to answer some of the questions that you've asked? >> So I would start by saying that this book is not just a collection of my own experiences. I wanted this book to also be a mirror to you. Uh the the title is the untapped soul. So what parts of your own soul are untapped? So let's look at them together. So as you read my own personal stories, I also give you a a chance to delve into your own life because many people are so stuck in the motions. We just go about life doing things but you don't really sit down with yourself to ask yourself some hard questions. People don't really like to face themselves because maybe there are ugly parts of your soul or maybe you are abused, abandoned, rejected or anything of the sort. Maybe you just you have gone through a lot of trauma and you really don't want to go to go there. But the first step to healing is actually sitting down with yourself and accepting that oh these things actually happened to me. So what can I do about it? So I believe um the journaling section in the book is very it's very very important because it's it's now uh directing the focus to you as the reader and it's making you see yourself through this book. Yeah. Wow. um even without the book um what is the importance of journaling uh as a healing way when especially you're going through any traumatic experience because I feel like most of the times people are afraid of what they feel and um in the morning we were talking about addictions and we were saying that one way of you getting to heal from an addiction is actually accepting that you're going through it or accepting that you're addicted to something but most of the times people don't accept or they don't want to name the kind of emotions they're feeling. I could be angry but uh people would tell me I'm angry but I don't want to accept that I am actually angry. So maybe you can tell us the importance of us naming the emotions that we actually feeling as part of us uh or or rather as part of the healing process. Yeah, journaling is such an important tool used all over the clinical practice or the clinical side of psychology and even for personal use because first of all the book and the pen is they are tools that can never ever judge you. First of all, I know some people really don't like to sit down with someone and express their emotions or like things they are going through because they feel like this person will judge me. Yeah. So I would say that journaling really helps. You you get to uncover you get to be naked in the book while you are writing because you're not reserving you're not reserving other things because of fear of judgment of or fear of being looked at a certain way. Yeah. So journaling helps. It also helps in rewiring the brain. Uh it helps in rewiring the brain patterns. Journaling can also help in emotional regulation because sometimes you're feeling some heavy intense emotions but the moment you start writing them down it's like your your nervous system is getting relaxed so it also helps in uh emotional regulation. Yeah. >> Okay. Um first as you began you said that you believe that psychology and Christianity uh work hand in hand and you've seen psychology uh being reflected in on the Bible. Uh do you feel like there's a point where it gets and they conflict at any given point probably as as you are studying and as you uh because now you this is your field and you get to understand every aspect of it. Do you feel like there's a point where they two contradict each other? Wow. Majorly I would say they they go hand in hand. So I would say maybe the contradiction can only come when you separate them. H for example psychology uh can easily very easily lead you to another spiritual world because through psychology you get to see okay actually uh we are learning about all these things all these theories but we feel like there's something higher. So what's the higher thing? Because uh the soul the human soul that's the psyche is where is now the study of psychology basically studying the the human soul but from scientists and from researchers they have found out that that's not the only thing that that makes us human apart from the physical body of course the soul is not the only thing that makes us human so there has to be a spiritual realm so psychology by itself can lead you to other for example new age uh other dark there's also dark psychology actually you can it can lead you to very very deep and dark places so that's why I always say that the integration of Christianity and psychology is now is it's like the the full circle yeah you can't have one and not have the other because in even in Christianity we see Christ because Christ is now the ep epiome of Christianity right so we see Jesus Christ embody emotions he embodies is um well-being of the mind which is now uh the the whole psychology which is the mind and the emotions right so Jesus Christ never shunned away his emotions you would see him crying when Lazarus was dead h crying when he was about to be crucified he would be get betrayed he would feel all these feelings that we feel as human beings and he was just trying to show us how to live and not how because also When you you're dealing with Christianity by itself, some people can easily just numb emotions. They just want to be spiritual. They say that, "Oh, how can you feel all these things? But you're a Christian. >> Yeah, you're >> not born again. >> Are you not spiritled?" >> But the same people also tell you that we are not just spirits. We have souls and we are living in a body. So I don't understand why you would separate the two. Yeah. So that there has to be a very perfect balance and I believe the Holy Spirit is the one who helps us to to balance them. Yeah. >> As you bring that aspect um a question pops up in my mind to help us understand the difference between emotional issues and psychological issues cuz for me the two look like they are one thing. So but the fact that they are separated means they're not the same. So maybe you can help us understand um the difference between the emotional challenges and the psychological challenges. >> Yeah. So we can go to my book. There's chapter >> we are studying guys. >> Chapter three that's uh page 18. I'm talking about the wheel. Now the the whole psychology the whole the human soul rather is consisting of these three main components. the mind, the will and the emotions. So, uh you asking about the difference between emotional what was it? >> The difference between emotional challenges and >> psychological challenges. Yes. Yes. Yes. So, we see here that like now the whole of psychology is the mind, the will and the emotions. You can't separate either. So, the emotions is part of the psychological challenges. So there you there's no difference rather because it's it's just like saying um let's use a a brand for bread maybe let's say super loaf and maybe super lloof have another mini branch yeah or or another mini brand rather mini brand so it's >> so the psychological is the bigger >> it's the bigger yeah it's the like the canopy of all of it yeah so the emotional challenges fall under the psychological challenges cuz Now the psychological bit covers the both emotions, the mind, the will. Yeah. >> Amazing. >> Yes. Yes. Yes. >> We've already started reading and you've not even uh anyway let me know. Let I don't want you to say that I'm marketing her book. She will do it herself when when the chance comes. But yeah um I feel like um this book is really equipped with a lot. And I will ask her a question from the book that she has given me. Yeah. Um I see you uh have a chapter here, chapter four that is talking about um the genesis of brokenness. Um why did you feel like it was very important for you to explain to the reader of your book where it all began? Um because most of the times people feel like I am the only one in the world going through this. Yeah. Or I'm the only one in the world that is not enough or feeling these emotions. But from uh your book, you've told us uh the beginning of everything. Why did you feel like it's very important for you to give us um the genesis of everything else and what is entailed in chapter 4? >> So yeah, chapter 4 covers the genesis of brokenness. And the reason why I covered it is because you can even see in scripture how God started like the the Bible literally starts by in the beginning like we are told of what happened in the beginning so that we can connect with our roots basically. So uh the the reason why I started talking about the genesis of brokenness is because it offers uh more how do I call it? It it's it offers more grounding when it comes to healing and it also offers longevity when it comes to healing. Because when you're talking about where something started from, it's not because we are we are and actually going to the root of something is actually overcoming denial because when you go to the root of something, you are interested to uproot that root >> when it's when it's bad. That is now that we talking about brokenness. So let's begin by looking at where this brokenness started from. And in the chapter we can see that it started from Adam and Eve. like it's clear in the Bible, right? So, we get to walk that journey along and see of course God uh being he knows all. He knew that they would fall and what was his solution for for the fall and how can we now apply that even in our own lives. And now in our contemporary living, we get to the root of our problems not just for the sake but because we want to uproot those things. So for example, you have noticed some patterns in your family maybe or maybe you and your mom and your grandma or something in the of the sort. You have noticed some things that are very they are not healthy but they are still there and you're wondering but I'm born again. Why are these things not um why have they not gone away? Why are they not washed clean? But it's because uh the the spirit man was what was made whole and renewed but the soul still needs a lot of healing and a lot of deliverance. So yeah, >> interesting. Um and so when you talk about that most of the time as people or as human beings we get used to pain >> and um I'm I'm used to rejection probably or I'm used to being hurt every now and then. to an extent people have not hurt me but I am still anticipating and sitting down waiting to be hurt or maybe people are showing me love and they're genuine but I'm there looking for red flags hey are you sure this is too good to be true um or maybe feeling like aana they might they must be hiding something um they're not genuine but it's a me problem it's a person like it's a personal problem because probably I'm so used to getting hurt that I am um thinking everyone is out to get me. So, how do you think um that affects people and how can they be able to deal with that? >> Yeah, those are trauma responses. um basically just effects of trauma. And now they they uh they dictate they dictate how you're going to respond in future when certain opportunities perhaps even if it's a relationship that's coming or a a new job and it's a good job and maybe you feel like you're undeserving or yeah you just feel some certain type of way. So the best way to deal with that is again going to the root asking yourself where did I first of all start to feel this way and most times it's not easy to go through uh that kind of journey alone because of one you you might not be consistent and two you might not um have the tools for that. So it's advised that you seek professional help or you sit down with someone who is a support system for you. Someone who can help you go through that journey. Yeah. And also this to this book can be a tool for you can help you now discover okay why do why do I respond in this in this manner? Why um when something good comes to me why am I always quick to want to sabotage it? Yeah. >> Okay. Um especially since you've mentioned um this book that you've said the tag the tagline is a journey into the depth of your soul. >> Um let me ask at times you get >> cuz it's a it's a journey if it's a journey you're walking and you are trying to dive in to something and in this case it's diving into our souls and now you get to a point and you like there's a point where you asked us questions. >> Yes. Um I told you guys that I've read this book. So please forgive me if I base my questions more on me understanding you will understand as well. Okay. Yes. So um a point where you ask questions and um I am supposed to now answer. Like I said uh you you told us that it's not just a book. It's you helping us to understand ourselves. Yes. >> There's that point where I have asked questions and I have seen my problem. I I have diagnosed myself as a doctor and I have seen this is a problem that I have. Now how do we get to deal with that? Maybe for example um the part where you're talking about addictions and in the morning by the way we're talking about addictions and we were saying about how people are addicted to very many things people are people think addictions are po >> pornography and all that but you realize that overeating there's a certain type of food that you love eating I gave them the example of at times you even find yourself you're addicted to shopping like you just think of aundred bugs or something and you're addicted to that. But now you've already diagnosed yourself and realized that okay I am struggling with this. I have a problem here or I have an issue here. But then we now need to understand how do we deal with this issue. It's okay problem. How do I help myself? >> Yeah Liz that's such a wonderful question because uh you can turn with me to page 35. We can see some of these addictions and some of these habits that people are addicted to. They're not so obvious, but they can actually derail your life. So, let's look at for example selfharming. Um, some people are also addicted to being excessively confrontational like they are always and you know that especially with relationships there are people who feel like if we don't fight we don't love each other. We must have something we're fighting about. They are very broken and they don't know. >> Yeah. >> Because they feel like it's normal. >> They do. Yeah. There's also binge watching, binge scrolling on. >> Especially that almost every young person has that right now. >> Exactly. You are You just tell yourself, I'm going to go on Instagram for 5 minutes talking. >> 5 hours later, you're still scrolling on the res. >> Overspending. >> Yes. Accumulating debt. Any It's a It's a habit. You just want to stay without debt. Imagine >> there's also outrages people who quit all the time. You get a job today, you quit tomorrow. >> Yeah. Cuz the boss told you your skirt was short. You're like 3. Like many people actually can some people can actually they can amaze you. They >> even relationships not just jobs. They get into this relationship today, next week they with another person. Yeah. That's a problem. Over apologizing. You might think that's not an issue, but it's an issue and people are addicted to it. Let's look at the last one. Um, also oversharing emotions. Can you imagine? So, people are addicted to many things. They might not look like they are harmful in the moment, but like the more they do it, the more >> detrimental it will be to them and to the people around them. So, how do you overcome all of these things? First, like you said, and like we have discussed, getting to the root of why do I do these things? Cuz we're not just I like to use this analogy of a tree and if it's a bad tree, of course, it would produce bad fruit. >> So, are we going to deal with the fruit first or are we going to go to the root? >> To the roots. >> Yes. That's that's the same analogy I use in psychology. when you want to deal with something, you just don't deal with the the fruits that are showing. You go back to the root and approach the roots, plant another tree. Yeah. So, there's also that law of replacing. You can't just overcome binge eating without replacing that habit with something healthier. >> Yeah. >> Wow. When you talk about getting to the roots, >> um how do I overcome the fear of facing myself? because um I think that is something that stops most people from getting to the root cause cuz you already know when I look deep into my soul when I go and tap into that and tap soon I will see where the problem is. And so I am very afraid of um getting to to get uh to understand myself. So how do we first start with now overcoming this fear? >> I would ask you first of all why are you afraid? What is it you're afraid of? Then we'll deal with the fear first before we even get to anything else because you might find that you're afraid of um reexperiencing that pain again. >> Yes. You might find that there could be many reasons you you maybe you are you are just scared that you will not get to heal. So my work will be to help you. you know, as I'm talking as a clinical therapist. My my work would be to help you overcome that fear first before we even get to tapping into that soul. >> Yeah. >> You know, I've just opened your uh table of context. Hey, this is interesting. And I I've seen that there is a part of the needs of the soul and I remember reading that and I realized oh >> Kumbbe the fact that I need to be loved is actually a need of the soul and I thought it's just I am overdoing I can do life alone. Why am I still you know you condemn yourself and think you're not okay? Why do you crave all these things? Maybe you can take us through some of these needs as we get to help my viewer to see um some of the needs that they actually have. um the needs of the soul that they didn't even know as she gets to uh get them. This is why in the morning here on Y254 channel. Yes. And if you have a question to our clinical psychologist, make sure that you drop it while Facebook. We're going to be having our post. Um, if you have a comment on something or maybe you want us to help you with an addiction or anything or you want a copy of the untapped soul, uh, make sure that you get to let us know and we're going to be very, very, very willing to get to read your comments and also get to help you as well as we can do it. >> Yes. So, I would start by saying that just like we have needs for the physical body, we need to eat, we need to sleep, we need water, we need shelter. We also have needs for the human soul. So our human souls, our human soul has um core needs and I'll just talk about a few. One of the core needs and I started with it intentionally because I believe it's the first one. It's love. Love and relationships. God did not create us just to do life alone. Yes. In as much as you can accumulate all the money, all the wealth, all the fame in the world and claim that you're okay being alone, deep down within your soul, you'll always feel empty. And you'd be wondering, why am I feeling empty still? I have all the cars, all the money, all the wealth. >> Yeah. Before we go probably to the next one, no problem. >> Okay. As you as you talk about love, >> can you define it? Cuz now um for especially young people >> that will say me, I am a Christian. I don't think right now is the time for me to be in a relationship. Help us understand um the as the different aspects that love or we find love cuz I'm very sure love is not just from a romantic partner. So yeah, you can help us understand um before we get to getting married and saying I do and being in a relationship with someone. How can we experience love from other aspects? >> Yeah. So in my book I I talk about love being the fuel of the soul. So meaning it's it's the primary thing and it's we get it from first of all God we get it from him because the Bible says God is love. So if you want to understand love more understand God understand who God is and then you get to understand what love is. And we get it from uh our parents, our family, our friends and even yourself. But most times how God has wired the human being is not for them to find love within themselves without him first. So you you it's like a pattern. The love has to first of all come from God understanding that God love you. He made you. Then you can also love yourself from that understanding. And other secondary forms of love can now include the friends and the family. Yeah. Even without those, someone can still survive because your primary source of love is active and it's constant. Yeah. >> Okay. Um I don't know if I have another question in regards to love. I'm feeling like most of the times um people love differently. There's a a point where I think this does not affect Jenz's most of the times, but when you look at our parents, you'll find that your mom believed that unless your dad Zuri Hendi there are people who believe that they must be beaten up so that they can show that they actually love them and um so are there ways that probably we believe that these people love us but in reality it it's not love because now if me for me I believe that if you love someone you can't hurt them but there are people who believe that e it's okay anenda they were angry in that moment or something like that it was just something that happened but that's not who they are but how do we define love. What is love? Especially when we are looking at love coming from other people. >> Yeah, amazing question. So, back to what I said, I would say God is love. So, let's understand who God is first of all. And we can see all over scripture cuz now the book also talks about the Bible and how it connects to psychology. Because when you're just talking about psychology, like love in in relationship psychology can be a bit limited because we don't have a blueprint for how love should be. So the Bible comes in to show us what love truly is. And we can see that in 1 Corinthians chapter 13, we see uh love is patient. So if you want to know that someone loves you, they are patient with you. They are kind. Love is kind. Uh they are not self-seeking. They are they they are always willing to to do like it's not like in an overly how do I call it? It's not that they trying to >> they're not a people pleaser but they know how to serve people. Let me just say that's uh in short terms. So yeah, we get to see what love is primarily from the scriptures and first Corinthians 13 helps us to see that. Yeah. >> Okay. I think um I am satisfied for now and I also have the book so I I'll get to read it. So maybe you can tell us some of the other needs of this wall. >> Yes. Yes. So uh before I even get to the other needs >> this book it shows how um this this specific section shows the specific needs that we have and we've just talked about love and relationships. And another thing he talks about is without it. So without the love what will happen? And in the book here I say that without it we are going to die emotionally. >> Yeah. And we I also talk about how to get it and we've just talked about learning from the word uh what go what love is from who God is and also from connecting yourself with people. Yeah. Don't be an island. Don't be isolated saying oh I'm an introvert. Oh I don't like to I don't like people. People have hurt me so much. You never experience love outside of people and outside God. So you just have to get yourself out there again. Yeah. So another need that we have as human beings is safety. So yeah, it's not just remember we are still talking about the psychological being. We're not talking about the physical safety like >> yeah we're talking about feeling safe within a space or even within yourself. So >> one of the things I talk about is attachment. So as babies, as infants, we get into this world without any form of ability. We only know how to cry. >> We only know how to eat, cry. And because even the crying itself is a form of um we are telling them that we don't know how to speak. >> So >> if I cry, you know there's a problem. >> Exactly. Find it. Look for it. I'm totally dependent on you. I will register as either most registered as good because you trust this person there what they've done that's how it should be done >> that's how it should be done and now you see there's an implication now for children who have been brought up in abusive homes maybe by an abusive mom or an abusive father yeah I've heard of cases of even infants being uh sexually assaulted like it it's crazy but then when that child grows up some part part of their brain still believes that that thing is goodal it's normal cuz I was introduced to it by the person I trusted the most when I came into this world so safety starts with the attachment and now if the attachment is wrong like what I've just talked about the abuse and all it's going to affect this person and they're not always going to feel safe around people. Now the safety translates into adulthood when they will be in relationships in adulthood. Most times it's romantic relationships cuz now they replicate what happened in the in the childhood. So they will also start to act out. Maybe they are going to be overly dramatic, always checking the partner's phones cuz they're not feeling safe. >> Yeah. They learned that response early on when they were young. So yeah, we we all need safety. Can we get to the next one? >> Yeah. >> Yes. So the next one is justice. So we all have a sense of justice. We want people to treat treat us with dignity and not to take advantage of us. We want people to treat us fairly and equally. We don't even in school you don't want the teacher to favor some child more than others. Yeah. So you want everyone to be treated. It's it's a deep need that we have. So I also talk about uh if we don't have it and if we don't have it or without it we feel violated, dismissed and small. Yeah. Um and especially when people in authority and people who have power if if they try to um act in injustice like it really does something to us because in that moment you of course feel >> your hands are tied. >> Yeah. Your hands are tied. feel less powerful. Um then how to get it? We get we get to know justice first of all by knowing your values. What are some of your values? What are some of your boundaries? If you don't have boundaries and values as a human being, I don't know. There's a very thin line between that and an animal because animals are only the I'm not just there. >> They just there. >> Yeah. They don't have boundaries. They don't have values. That's why you just sings you should be dignified enough to have values and boundaries. So for example, I talk about peace. If peace is your core value as le uh your you'll naturally build boundaries that guard it. Yes. So for example, you you'll tell people that I don't tolerate this. I don't want this. you cannot do this to me. Not in a harsh way. Even the way you present it also matters. But it's also it's just telling the world how they should treat you. By the way, do you know that we tell the people around us how they treat us? Even the people who don't know you, how you carry yourself will uh is information enough for someone who does not even know you to treat you to know how to treat you. Yeah. So that's why you should have values as a human being. >> Yeah. The next one is rest. Rest. Rest is >> that is something that very many people don't give themselves. You sleep at 1 and you wake up at 3 and you've been working all these other hours. Meaning you're very overwhelmed. Your brain is overwhelmed. Your body is overwhelmed. >> Right? And we can see even from the scriptures that God rested. Like why was it so important for it to be mentioned? I believe the Bible only captured the most important things. So if it means it is very important and we should also emulate it and if we don't have it we going to experience a lot of burnout emotionally cuz we're not just talking about the physical rest we're talking about the emotional and psychological rest. So how to get rest is being intentional to set time to take breaks. Yeah. Do something else. Uh reach out to a loved one. Make stories, do something. Just uh get your mind off the very thing that is keeping you busy and worked up. >> Amazing. Maybe before you even continue. I don't want us to tell you everything that is written. You will get all the information and you've not even read the book. If you want to read everything else, get the book. Yeah. And also see the time is really flying and I have some important aspects that I want us to discuss. Uh something like we are hurt as people. for example, um I've gone through traumatic experiences. Um I've been in pain and all that. How do I ensure that I don't release this in the next person that I meet? How do I ensure that I grew up in a very abusive marriage or a very abusive home? How do I make sure that I give my children an amazing life? How do I ensure that in as much as I am hurt and I do not know how to handle my emotions, I don't pour all my sadness on other people and affect other people. >> Wow. Wow. Um, first of all, even thinking about that shows that you're a selfless person. You might be in the thicket of having all these psychological issues, but the fact that you still have the thought that you want to help the next generation or the people around you tells a lot about you. So that's that's a plus to start with. So I would say be being intentional being intentional to do the work. I know we have heard many times do the work do the work do the inner work but what does it really mean? It starts with sitting down with yourself. Again, sit down with yourself. Don't be in a hurry. And if you are a believer, a Christian, you have the Holy Spirit. You can sit down with him and he can point out some missing points, some blanks in your in your soul or some places that were wounded that you even maybe forgot about intentionally or unintentionally. He can bring back those memories. I've recently heard of people telling me that um they have started to get memories of what happened to them when they were children and they have never even thought about it before. And I believe it's it's just part of healing. It's it has to it's of course the Holy Spirit can trigger that but also uh being in a company of people who are also going through the same journey can trigger that out of you. So yeah, I would say being intentional to do the inner work, sit down with yourself, ask yourself the hardest questions and if you also cannot find the questions to ask. Some of them are in this book and also you can seek professional help, seek help from a counselor, from a therapist, from a me mental health practitioner. They can help you. Yeah, I had someone say that every human being has some emotional or psychological issues in one way or the other. So I want you to tell us is that true? And if it is, how do we deal and handle that? >> Wow. So saying that everyone has a bit of emotional or psychological issue can be a bit that's a bit conk. Well, I would say that we all have things that we need to deal with within our souls. >> We are not perfect at all. We are not complete in that sense. We are not um we haven't yet we are not renewed in in in our souls. So, we need to do the work still cuz uh you'd find even someone who is born again, they're wondering, okay, so why did I just fornicate? Why did I just abuse this person or insult them? >> Yeah, those are things that are still ongoing in your in your soul and you need to deal with them. It's I would say it's a lifelong journey if you ask me because the the what we are trying to emulate is Jesus Christ. So there's no point in this life that you would ever be on this earth and say that I've fully become like Jesus. No. So it's concerned now the the the aspect of healing the soul is helping us in becoming more like Jesus. Yeah that's what I would say. >> Okay. Amazing. Wow. I have a just very very few minutes. And we had a question in the morning and we were asking how do you help someone that is struggling with an addiction without um judging them? And now let's get to hear a good answer from a psychologist trained. She understands all these things. Me and Blessie were trying to really try to get answers but maybe you can help us understand how can I help somebody who's struggling with addictions without judging them. >> Wow. First of all understanding that they without the addiction they are still human. They are they they deserve all the dignity just like you do you who is not addicted. Yeah. because there's also that sense of feeling like I'm better than this person cuz they are addicted and that's pride. So first of all recognizing that this is just a human being just like anyone else. They deserve you you've heard me talk about the needs of the human. So they deserve the love. They deserve to feel safe. They deserve to feel justice. Yeah. They they are just like you. So compassion is actually now what really helps when it comes to helping someone who is overcoming addiction. Yeah, that's that cuts across all um whether it's in clinical practice or whether it's just a friend or a family member. Just having compassion for them is like the primary thing that you need. Yeah. >> Amazing. So, make sure that if you have someone that is addicted to something, they are your friends and you know that they're going through through something, make sure that you're compassionate first. Um, whatever it is that you're dealing with, whatever it is that you're handling, however, uh, you decide to approach or try to show them the way. Show it with love and compassion. Now, um, what would you tell people who are watching? I love leaving this as a gap. Like I want you to tell them whatever it is that you feel. H you know for spiritled people I want to say the Holy Spirit should lead you to talk to someone. Yeah. I would tell you something and maybe there's something else that you felt like you would talk about. So in the remaining few minutes you can talk to someone who's watching a young person and tell them anything that you feel you should tell them. >> Wow. I would tell that person watching that first of all, you are not a product of you're not your experiences. You're not what you went through. Perhaps it's something that happened to you. Um but it's it does not define you. I would say that um whether that thing was abuse uh it was rape, it was um maybe something very traumatic happened to you, that thing does not define you. You find your identity in who God calls you to be. So God calls you loved. God calls you uh valued. He calls you his child. So those are the things that you should stand on always. So no matter what you ever go through even after today perhaps something you know we are still living in this broken world and some things will continue to happen but what will anchor you the most is knowing who you are in Christ. Yeah >> interesting. Um you know as you were speaking I felt like I wish we had like five hours of just having this discussion. I could go on and so many questions that I would really want to ask but yeah um I think once I people will look for you yeah come for the some of the sessions you'll tell us how we can access you but uh what you've said is is beautiful that God is the one that is supposed to um tell us or direct us or show us what we are actually supposed to do and it's amazing. Now tell us about the book uh how can someone get uh the copy of the untapped soul? >> Yes. So you can get this amazing masterpiece uh through my number which is 079781616. Uh I'll go again 07 9781616. Just send me a message and we'll figure out how to deliver it to you. >> Okay. So, you can find me on all social media platforms at the untapped soul or my personal account which is Brenda Awan. Yes. >> Okay. Um, I see some of the comments that we have here in the morning.
