Hi beautiful. Do you think I'm going to get pissed off today or really excited? That's the question every single week. Will I be happy or will I want to kill myself by the end of watching these videos? It's mayhem in the world of hair. goes down all the time where I'm like, "What are you guys doing? It's really concerning me. >> Just in case this hairstyle comes out uh mazing, Brad Mondo has this technique to balayage your hair and I'm going to try it. Part your hair in three sections. >> I'm loving the way you say balayage, badalabalayage, what I don't know what you said, but it was really cute. >> Balayage your hair. >> It's balayage, everybody. It's not just you, and I'm calling you out specifically, but everybody gets that word wrong. Balayage. >> This is a triangle in front of your face. You try to get it as close together as possible. Second, up high, you drape it down. So, the thing is it's supposed to go like this at the end. [music] So, it's this like natural with this ponytail in the back. >> So, she's following my balayage ponytail tutorial, and I think this is so underrated. I don't know why more people don't do it. It is so good if I do say so myself. Um I kind of ate with this. So, hopefully it goes really well for her, because I think I ate. >> parted it. Behind the ears is the first part. What's left, put it up real high, and then you pull it down. You're going to put bleach powdered bleach, 20 volume. >> Yes. Okay, so you saw what she was saying. So, you pull up the ponytail sections really high in your head right here, and then you pull them down. What this does is make the underneath really kind of saggy and then the top really tight. So, your highlights are going to go really high up at the top, and then really drag down to the bottom of your hair because you pulled that ponytail down. That gives you a lot dimension in the underneath of your hair and gives you that kind of >> [snorts] >> look that we're looking for with balayage where it goes high in the front and low in the back. >> We're going to leave about [music] that much. Bleach this whole thing through. I'll put some saran wrap in it. Start the timer for 20 minutes. Each section is different. [music] So, 20 20 20. Soon as you done putting the bleach 20 minutes. >> She absolutely ate this parting up, like devoured this Absolutely wow. This is really well done and so far it's looking really really good. I am impressed. >> Then you go back at 5 minutes left and you put the bleach to that to this. Cuz you're going to leave a gap. Then you rinse out each section at that 20-minute [music] mark. It's going to be like a natural balayage. Cuz I love all this stuff, but I keep cutting my hair so it's all out. So, hopefully it'll be all through up here. Yeah, so let's see what happens. I have no idea what's going to happen, but we're going to try our best. How to get even >> Totally fine to start in the back or the front, whatever's better for you. However, I think most of the time it's better to start in the back because you otherwise you can't really see much. I will say though, if you start in the front, it's easier to wash off in sections. You can clip it out of the way once you apply the color, so think about it. >> My girlfriend went to Sally's and got me powder bleach and 20 volume developer. I did 4 oz of >> [music] >> the powder and 4 oz of the developer. He said, "Do you need a whisk?" I said, "No, it's fine. I have everything." I needed [music] the whisk. Here goes nothing. It's only hair, right? All right, let's get this one out of the way, too. >> [music] >> So, I can do I want to start in the back. This section right here. >> This you're supposed to wash off front, middle, back, the way you applied it. And if you do the front first, it's really easy to put your head down in the sink and wash that first. Cuz all the water's going to keep moving forward, you know? >> Really get [music] it in there. >> Yes. >> Okay. This is going to be so messy. >> [music] >> Good thing my bathroom needs to be cleaned. >> Yes. I love how much color she's applying. Bleach, [music] not color, but >> like bleach, I'll tell you that. >> Ooh, she's doing [music] this good as Do you see how much bleach is layered on her head? There is a lot. That is a ton of bleach, and that is exactly how much we want. Beautiful, amazing, well done. Bravo. >> Make sure it's like really in every hair. >> Yes, spread that hair apart. >> the thickest, I should do more. >> Spread the hair apart and apply more. When you think it's enough, apply more. >> pungent. >> I wrapped it in Saran Wrap. I I don't know. Let's go to the next side. Both sides down at the bottom. I'm going to start a timer. [music] >> You are doing this great. You are doing such a good job. The only thing I'm going to say is that I'd rather you start a timer counting upwards instead of setting a time like 20 minutes and it counting downward. And that's because I don't know how long your hair is going to take to process. Everybody's hair is different. I don't know if it has previously been colored, which is going to add more time on the processing versus virgin hair that is light naturally. It's going to have a less processing time. I wouldn't necessarily recommend this. I would just watch it, and then once you rinse out the first section at maybe 32 minutes, you rinse out all the other sections at 32 minutes. >> Let's get the second section going. >> [music] >> I have to keep removing my gloves and putting new ones on because I'm going to get a old towel be my friend because I need to go to the next section and I don't want to touch all this stuff with bleach all over my hands. All right, [music] next section. Let's get these out of the way so I can do that. Okay. New gloves, new sections. Oh, let's put some cling wrap out. >> I'm already >> so proud of her like this. She's doing a great job, and this is just so fun to watch. Usually, I'm over here screaming and, like, mad, and this one's really, really fun, and I am I'm enjoying this. So, thank you for the little break from all the you usually watch. >> Section second second second section down. >> The other thing she could have done is comb the bleach through, which I don't know if I did that in my video, but combing the bleach through with a wide-tooth comb or something that's just kind of, like, not a fine-tooth, you know, not very fine, cuz you will not get through the bleach, but most other things, like a detangling brush, like a wet brush, will go through the bleach and get [music] this really even and nicely saturated, and it's super helpful. So, she could have done that as well. >> I really feel like I would love to do this on somebody's hair because [music] um so, at 36, this comes off because it's so hard to just maneuver everything by yourself. This would be so easy to do with your girlfriends. Like, this would be fun to do with your girlfriends. If you're not afraid of bleach, you're not afraid your hair's curled out. >> She's totally right. Definitely, everything with hair is easier to do on other people, but um in the front of her hair, I wanted to highlight the fact that that little section, the little triangle, the reason why it's pulled to the front and not to the middle of the section is because when we do overdirection, which we are doing slightly here on the little triangle section, [music] when we have overdirection, it's going to make sure that that really tippy top piece is almost to her scalp, and then this piece is just down by her eyebrow because we overdirected the section and put that tie on there. >> It would be so much easier just to be looking at someone's head and doing this instead of doing this to your own head. Um hopefully, I have amazing results because I would love a violet [music] ash. I want Express Your Martini hair every day of my life. >> All right. I think you're going to love it. >> Like, see, [music] you have to, like, leave these sections down be So, it [music] would be easier to um >> Yeah, you see now how difficult it is to color the front of your hair. It is definitely going in her eyes and it's not fun. But unfortunately, there's no way around it. This is how you need to do it if you want it to come out right. Just protect your eyes, you know, just don't go blind. And nobody sue me. Um >> Cuz you can't like flip it up cuz then the bleach will get on all the spots you don't want biology. >> Exactly. Yes. >> So, it's easier to do the back first than the front. Oh my god, the bleach is smelling. The bleach is a smelly. All right, I forgot to tell him [music] I forgot to get my Saran wrap that time. >> I wish she was going a bit higher on these sections because the front is the one you want to really punchy. You want it basically up to that elastic, maybe just an inch or so underneath it, but you want it really really close because that's what's going to give you that money piece, that beautiful money piece in the front. >> I bleach all over the bathroom. [music] We're going to be washing this bathroom. All right. Got a little Saran wrap on her. Wash my hands. Wait to 20 minutes. Oh, what time is it? 17. Okay, so 1 minute after that. This one. Take some cling wrap. >> Just be careful guys with anything like foil or cling wrap. Don't push. We never want to push on hair, okay? We want to let that hair live and breathe and just be natural and vibe. The reason why we don't want to push is because you end up squeezing the bleach off of the hair. The bleach is just a little icing on the hair. If you put your finger on a cake, the icing is going to move. We don't want to move the icing. >> The first section, we're going to bring that bleach up. >> [music] >> I have plenty of bleach. I made more than enough. A little cheat sheet for my numbers me what time to start rinsing stuff off. I'm back in and I'm really making sure that every hair is covered. [music] >> It's lightning. >> can see the nice lift that it's doing. It's really working well. Um >> I mean, that to me is done. We don't want the hair to be too light because then you'll have this drastic difference between the really dark hair and the really light hair. It'll be more of an ombre rather than balayage. Balayage is a more natural kind of sun-kissed look. Ombre is more of that very drastic kind of color blocky look. >> Ombre effect going there. I think I need a full 20 minutes on each section. We are So, I have Um I still [music] have 3 minutes to start putting it up on the um root section. Got a lot of lift. I'm very happy with it. >> Sam. >> I'm just going through each section and making sure that they're all covered. >> Now, I'm at the 15-minute [music] mark. So, I need to come back to these ones in the back. Start applying to that ponytail. >> Yes. Okay, so this is the next step. You bring the bleach up to where the ponytail is. And what that's going to do is increase this ombre effect even more. It's going to make that perfect diffusion from dark hair to light hair because you're applying more of bleach up to the ponytail, which is going to sit on the hair for less time than the other hair processed. So, this is going to create that ombre effect because that part's going to be less light than the rest. So, it's going to be like brown, light brown, blonde, you know? >> You kind of just really just try to get that cuz you want it to be a diffused look so it doesn't look like black and white. So, you're just kind of going to this section right here and you're getting some bleach in there to the to that ponytail section. >> Sweet sassy And when it's a blend out really nicely, everything looks amazing. >> [laughter] >> Now we're at that ponytail section. Let me get that out. All right. >> I love how confident she is while doing this. Like this is, I think, her first time doing something like this at home. I mean, doing balayage is typically really hard to do at home, but I think that I made it very easy. And she is absolutely devouring. I Have you guys seen me this happy in a long time? I don't know. >> Okay, what you can do is you can just look at your hair, okay? You can wipe it off with a towel and check how the color is processing. You feel me on that one? Once it's the tone that you want, you rinse it off and then you time it. Everything else the same amount of time as you timed that first section that you rinsed off. >> I'm going to try my best. You have to rinse out each section. >> I'm sorry it's so difficult. I feel like it's not. Your opinions are yours, okay? I tried to make it as easy as possible. It's just not an easy thing to do. Genuinely, it takes hairdressers so long to learn how to do this properly. We don't do it like this, but it's really hard in general just to color and bleach hair properly. This is more of an artistic color thing as well. It's not just like slapping some bleach on and calling it a day. This is like full-on art. >> As it goes along as the 20 minute goes. Ooh, I don't want to spill. This is how I'm doing it. I'm not even sure if this is correct. >> This looks correct. >> I hope it comes out beautiful. >> The color looks really good so far. As she's rinsing it out, I just think it looks great. It's like not too light. You don't want the hair to be blonde or else you're going to again have that really severe ombre look. We're not looking for with this. So, this is perfect and she's doing a great job. I don't know why you feel so uh not confident about your work. You're doing a fabulous job and everything's coming out how it should be. And I'm feeling on the top of the world. Eiffel Tower, the top of the Burj Khalifa, the Empire State Building. That's it. Oh, my toes are cramping now from being in this position. Cuz I worked all day yesterday. Oh, my feet hurt. Oh, my toes are cramping. >> You can also do this in the shower. I mean, I know she's trying to film this, so she can't exactly like be naked [music] and like be in the shower. But, you can do this in the shower. And the steam, as long as you just don't get all the sections in the water at once. That's the hard part. But, you can always go in the shower, take a 5-minute break, [music] sit there, go on your phone, do the next section. That way you can just stand up and wash this. That's also a way of doing this. Plus the steam will help the color process faster and better and lighter. My girl is in hell. She hates this so much. >> [laughter] >> Like look at her face right now. That's the face of somebody who wants to kill Brad Mondo. Like absolutely kill me. >> This is crazy or what? Oh my toes cramped. Oh I'm sorry. >> [laughter] >> Oh we are making this so much harder for ourselves though by washing it like this in ponytails. Like just take out the ponytails. >> Look at the color we got. >> Oh my god it's so light. >> Come back for the final reveal. Okay, each section is rinsed out. It's taking a lot of bleach in this eye. As you can tell it's really red. It's not for the faint of heart trying to rinse out your hair section by section cuz I'm not a doll head that can go in the back sink. >> She's shading me so hard with this mannequin head. That's why we started in the front so you can rinse out the front easily. >> I just put a um collagen [music] treatment on my hair. It's 5 minutes just so I don't damage it with all the bleach I just put on there. Going to get it rinsed off. I'm going to blow dry style. I'm going to show you the end result and I am so excited to bring you along. >> Okay, she's not going to tone her hair. It could be okay. Sometimes you can get away with not doing toner if your hair just lifted very nicely. Toners end up washing off over time anyways. We have a Super Gloss toning line all these different colors you can choose from. You can just do it at home. It's super easy. It has no peroxide in it so it's not going to damage your hair at all. There's no risk. It's going to make it feel better post coloring which is a great thing to use for something like this. >> Oh my god hun. Dye my hair. It's almost time [music] for the big reveal. It was really hard rinsing it out section by section by myself. I'm really [music] excited to see it done and I want to blow dry my hair, style my hair, put makeup on, and have a big reveal. >> I hope this isn't too [music] red. >> I didn't pull too much red. I hope I left it in long enough. It's so hard to tell. I have all faith that Brad Mondo's techniques work because I have been doing his butterfly cut forever. I love his techniques. [music] They're easy. They're DIY home stuff that really works. Section, section, [music] section. Now that we got all that done, I'm going to blow dry my hair. >> I love the sections. Yay! I love sections. If you don't already know, you know though. You know how excited I am about sections. >> We're going to go in sections. Oh. This is my hair straight. I need some light. And it's supposed to just be like a progression down the side. Like see how it just goes naturally goes down like because of the way we angled our hair. I'm so impressed. >> She's not done. There's one more part, but this is already looking amazing and I'm gagged. It's still straight and it looks really good. Like usually people wear their hair curly with balayage because it makes it just blend better and look better, but straight even looks awesome. >> I love coloring my hair, especially when it's curled. Now, I hate my hair down like this, especially in the middle. It does nothing for my face shape or body. I can go buy some toner and put it on, but I honestly think if I sit in the sun for a couple hours today, it'll lighten up even more and with every wash. >> Again, she's not done, but I wish she put the toner on still. Like after I'm seeing this straight result, I just wish she toned it because the toner will make everything super even. Like this could look salon quality if she just put a toner on there. Right now it just has this few variations of tone going through the highlights and if we brought it all together and made it more cohesive, I'd be like mind blown. But my mind is still blown. >> This is what my hair looks like not curled. I love these blonde pieces up here. These pieces were a little bit lighter. I should have left them in longer. Hence why you only rinse out one time. >> kidding >> I'm going to go with my BaByliss Pro and going to curl it. Look how cute this looks already. And then we take a piece and we brush it out for smoothness. Oh my god, I am so obsessed with my hair already. It's not even funny. I'm obsessed. This is only [music] going to marinate and look more beautiful as I sit in the sun, get chlorine, [music] and it just lived in and you wash it. This is exactly what I needed in my [music] life. I hate being a full head of dark and my hair is extremely dark right now. This is [music] absolutely gorgeous. I love the depth and dimension it brought to my life. Look at the back. Mhm, let me see. Or am I just being a blonde lover? >> I think I'm having such a hard time dying it back because when I dyed it the first time, it was such a new chapter in my life and after bleaching my own hair, I [music] felt like I could do anything. A lot of people who were in my life when I bleached it and before I bleached it are not in my life anymore. [music] I've grown more in the past year than I ever have before in my life and I do kind of accredit that to my hair having been blonde. It just I can't even explain it. >> I agree. Guys, hair can really change your whole outlook on life. It's crazy. Like you end up feeling like a different character every time you color your hair a different color and that's why my hair changes so much. I like to see the world in different ways through my hair color. You know what I mean? >> I um sectioned it and then I got nervous. You need to do a filling step where you put like a coppery orangey color over this and then you go dark. If you go too many levels down at once, you'll end up with this kind of muddy green ugly color. >> Also, I'm afraid that the red I got is really dark, but the brown I got is really dark and pretty cool tone, I think. So, like hopefully it covers it. >> Okay, so she is doing red first. Yay. >> Okay, my biggest fear is having splashes of red hair in the brown, but if I saturate it enough that won't happen. I bought two boxes, two tubes of the brown that I'm using. I'll show you that when I get to it. I probably should have made it easier to be able to measure it, but you know what? >> Yeah, girl, you don't look like you're measuring anything to be clear. I'm scared because she's just squeezing in the middle of that tube. When you're squeezing color out of metal tubes like that, start from the top and work your way down, please. Or it'll make it very hard later to squeeze this all out. >> It's looking a little more red at the bottom of the tube. Um, that's very nerve-wracking that something went wrong. Hello, manufacturers. >> Sometimes the color can oxidize a little bit weird and like the bottom can have had a little bit of exposure to oxygen because of the [music] filling process, but the color is probably fine. >> Look, it's very pink in the middle and white on the outside. This is scary. That's an understatement. >> I hope if this is demi-permanent color, I much prefer filling hair with demi-permanent color because you just do not need anything above like a 2% on your hair, which is like 7 volume. We don't want to put 20 volume on this hair and blow out that cuticle and have everything just not stick properly. >> All right, guys. It's um this color now. It's a a lot more red um in person than on camera. I can't believe I'm back here in my bathroom doing this and it's going back to brown. This is how it's supposed to be. You're trying to go dark, no? Yeah, it is going to be red. You're coloring it red and this is looking appropriate. It's processing very fast though. So. >> Oh, we did color the roots, too. This is the issue that's going to happen here. You should have definitely avoided the roots because now your roots are going to pick up very red, and it's going to be really hard to cancel that red tone out on your root area. You don't need to fill your roots because they're already filled. They're already your natural hair color. They don't need any more filling with red. >> This is what we're working with right now. My biggest fear with dying my hair back to brown is that I'll look like Aneska from Jane the Virgin, Petra's twin sister with the brown hair, cuz her hair is kind of green. Like the dye is supposed to look kind of bad. So, I guess I just don't want to look like that. Anyways, I guess I'm feeling good about the decision. >> The color is very clean, like she didn't get it on her face, which I'm loving. So, that's great. >> I guess I don't really have a choice right now. I kind of have to feel good about it, but I'm just going to try and clean up, and then wait 25 to 30 minutes. The ears are very red. Hopefully it all comes off. Feeling surprisingly okay. Okay, I'm about to wash it out. Looking really red. >> [laughter] >> I guess that's the point. Sometimes when you make it too red before you put the brown on, it makes it like a red brown and that's also [music] not cute. It's very tricky filling hair and getting it to the right natural brown color because brown hair has the perfect mix of red, green, and blue in it. It's very tricky. >> It does [music] have so much volume. Um >> Ooh. Ah. Yeah. >> Now I'm kind of scared because it's not even. But either way, this has some color in it. It's either not even cuz your porosity of your hair was very up. Like it's just some parts are really porous, some parts [music] not as porous that will end up giving you this uneven result. Or you just applied it really poorly. We may never know. So I don't think it'll turn green. I'm just nervous now. Okay, we're sectioned [music] and it looks weird in this lighting. Actually, I don't even know what it looks like. It's not very even and I don't know if I didn't leave it on long enough. I left it on for longer than the time it said, but >> It seems like you left it on long enough then. >> Cream hair color in a 4N medium brown. >> It's longer than the time they recommended. I would say it's long enough. >> It seemed not very red toned. >> We're doing a 4N. Holy The thing with filling hair and applying a color over it on very porous blonde hair is it usually takes one to two levels darker. So, if we want a level four, we should choose like a level five and a half or even six sometimes. It'll end up giving you a level four because of how much your hair holds on to that pigment. The permanent color you're showing right now is built to go over natural hair color, which is very resistant. So, it needs a lot of that lifting power and that pigment to really latch on versus your hair that's already been lifted and colored and bleached [music] and everything. It's not going to react the same to the color in both of those scenarios. have to be cautious of that. >> There's so much we have. I have so many of one pair of gloves left, so I have to do this all in one shot. I added an extra section, so hopefully that helps. Um here's what it's looking like. >> Wow. Okay, we are getting that color on there and it's already turning dark and I am getting a little excited. I mean, I still think the blonde was looking was looking better than the brown. You can use a dark brown color like 5N and you can actually remove it if you don't like it with something like a Malibu CPR treatment will get rid of most of this color or any kind of semi-permanent color remover. Those are made to fade out versus a permanent color like this, which is not made to fade out. Damn it. Ah, damn it. I was kind of hoping I'd be surprised, but I'm not. And in loving memory of the last time I ever went into a salon, which was in 2016 when I tried to bleach my hair by myself at home, messed it up and had to go get it fixed and then I never went back. Like, a very small bit in the back that is pink, and then the tips of my hair are all pink. While doing your hair at home is cheaper than going to a salon, doing your hair at home is not cheap. I just love Hayley Williams so much, okay? I also got this cream bleach, which I've never tried before, so that'll be fun. Other things that I usually don't buy. I got some gloves, cuz you should use those, and wipes to get it off of your skin, I guess. I've used wipes before that get it off of surfaces, but they didn't have those, so I got this instead. That is all that I got. It is suggested to use the same brand of developer as whatever bleach or toner you're using. I'm not doing [music] that. I will be using 20 volume and a tiny bit of 40 volume in there, and some other things that I have. Mixing bowl and brush, measuring spoons, hair caps. If you don't have these, use a plastic shopping bag. Foil, use normal aluminum foil. Purple conditioner. >> Oh! She's got everything we can possibly need to do this, and I'm happy about it. Don't know why, but eventually I did get around to it and I decided to use the comb and my eyebrows, I guess, as [music] guides to kind of standardize how it was sectioned off to hopefully make it easier in the future and I think it did. I think it worked. So, basically it was length of the comb back from the start of my hair. >> She is doing an incredible job sectioning. This is making me very happy. This sort of calico moment she showed as her inspiration definitely had sectioning similar to this where the whole front of the hair was colored kind of lighter than the rest. So, I'm glad she's doing the sectioning correctly and she's going at the apex and working her way [music] down to the ear, which is exactly what I would have done. Like, there's some pieces that are already light from that previously pink sections. The sections that were pink that she then color removed and now they're blonde. I prefer you going on the dark parts first and then work the bleach through the blonder parts later after the other darker parts have already lifted. >> But here bleaching the hair now, always remember you bleach the rest of your hair and then you bleach the roots. Usually the toner will conceal all this Because the is so light in color, you can easily get away with toning [music] this and having it all look even. So, I'm not worried. That worked. The rest of it where it's still pink, the color lifter just didn't work on non-bleached hair. I'm learning something. How do I do this? >> Okay, we're bleaching it again. Again, I would have just put a a dye permanent toner over this and knocked out all those weird colors with that, but bleaching it is another option. It's just much more damaging and it's going to compromise the entirety of your hair. She is doing so much We're getting there. We're doing the second process and I am just scared of her hair is going to break off. Like this is so much bleach over more bleach over more [music] bleach over more bleach. >> Good morning. Woo! >> Let's start by sectioning off my hair and then I'm going to get to the dye and the toner. >> Wow, we are doing a whole lot of sectioning. I don't know what's going on. She doesn't either. She even wrote it on the screen. I'm going to trust the process cuz it looks like she feels confident and knows what she's doing, so I'm just going to sit back and go, "Okay, take the wheel, baby." All right, we are now coloring all of that blonde stuff orange. If that was the case, I wouldn't have applied that second round of bleach. No way because your hair was already light enough. The orange would have covered up all those issues we were seeing anyways. Just kind of damaged your hair for no reason. At least it's nice and pretty blonde now. >> Well, you're going into a lot of places with the orange. I mean, this is mostly going to be orange, which is cool. I just thought we were going to do more blonde. I don't I don't remember what the references looked like, but I feel like it was a lot more blonde. Am I crazy? She's now applying toner onto all the blonde hair, and I just wouldn't do that. This calico thing is supposed to be pretty yellow in tone within the blonde sections, so I would have just left the blonde as is. It's already that kind of raw yellow tone that again the calico color is always have, so inflicting more damage on the hair for no reason. What the >> Ooh, would you look at that? Oh my god. This turned out so much better than I thought it was going to. The orange is a bit brighter than I had anticipated, but honestly that's fine. I'm not mad about it. It's been about four washes since then, and the first two washes that I did, I put purple conditioner everywhere that was not brown. I did not love how bright the orange was. It was just too halloweeni, but the purple conditioner did help a lot, which was nice. The orange [music] did bleed a little bit onto the blonde bits, but not in a way that it was like unbearable. If I were to refresh this again, I would probably section it off a little bit simpler rather than that weird like V-shape that I had in the back and stuff, and I have like a chunk here that's orange, and then the rest of it's blonde. I would probably either just do this half blonde, this half orange, or everything orange except for everything that's bleached right here. It's just not worth the hassle. I do really like this. This is one of the more fun things I've done my hair journey. I've had just about every colored hair except for orange. And if you love it, then I love it for you, you know? >> Hello everybody. Welcome to today's video. I'm going to be doing a full hair transformation. At the moment, I have black hair. I don't think it suits me. I think it makes my face look pretty dead. It didn't help that I've been sick for a week. >> Okay, that's crazy, though. >> how I feel about this hair color, but I still want to do this change. I have everything set up here, so I'm just going to go through the process that I plan on executing in my hair. Then we'll just get started. I'm going to start by removing the black pigment out of my hair. I'm going to be using Malibu CPR. Instructions are really simple. All you have to do is take 4 oz of hot water and then add the removal crystals. >> Okay, so she's trying to remove just like a layer of color off her hair. CPR is a vitamin C based, so it can be quite drying on the hair, but it is quite effective at removing just that excess [music] layer of color off the hair, especially with semi-permanent tones. I mean, it can it can do any hair color, but I find it most effective on semi-permanent, [music] personally. >> Allegedly, it will remove most of the dye without lifting any of your natural hair color out. >> So, DDL by Malibu is actually a more of a bleach. It's literally [music] bleach powder. And DDL stands for direct dye lifter. But that will lighten your natural hair color versus the Malibu CPR treatment, which is vitamin C based, which does not lift your natural hair color. >> I have virgin like level four, maybe level five hair underneath [music] this black dye, and I would like to get back to that natural color. So, to me, in the research I was doing, this Malibu [music] CPR seems kind of like the perfect formula for the hair that I have on my head and the results that I'm [music] wanting. After I have removed, hopefully, all the pigment out of my hair, I will be going in with the Wella Blondor Multi Blonde 7 [music] mixed with the Wella Wellaxon Perfect 40 Volume um cream developer. This is my inspiration. >> Hold on. If this is your inspiration, why are we CPR-ing our entire head? I mean, I don't actually know if she's doing that. I just think it is made it up. I guess I should just watch because I'm just saying you don't need to lighten all your hair if you're trying to make everything dark in just that one section light. >> Let's manifest. What if this goes right? You know, what if it goes right? What if it looks incredible? Here I have about 4 oz of hot water. So, you [music] can see it's kind of steaming up on the inside, so it is hot. Now, I'm going to be adding in the Malibu CPR packet and the directions say to put it into an applicator bottle and shake it until it turns into a gel. I do not ever have them in my house, so I'm going to be using like a glass snapware container and be shaking it in that. Ooh, that smells really strange. Okay, so I have the mixture in this bowl. I'm going to put this lid on. It says to do this until it forms like a gel. Although, there's a lot of chunks. You could definitely see that. There's a lot of chunks of this stuff. This looks really disgusting. Okay, let's mix. It's turning kind of dark. What did you say? I don't know why, but I assumed it would be like a white color. But, it's kind of like a grayish. Um >> [snorts] >> I hope that's fine. >> Okay, so usually when I do CPR, I put it in a color bottle, like one of these, and just shake it. You can also just mix it with a brush. Shaking it is a little bit easier. Both ways are fine. This is a little crazy this way. >> Stop fighting, everybody. >> I've never seen anybody mix it in a Tupperware container, but go off, I guess. It'll probably work. >> I'm going to go quickly hop in the shower and shampoo my hair with um the Malibu Undo Goo pH of 9 clarifying shampoo. I'm going to be scrubbing that to help it exfoliate out anything that's on my hair that I don't want anymore. I'm going to leave it at that, set [music] the lid back on, bring this into the shower with me. I'm going to be seeing you in just a few minutes. So, I just got out of the shower. The color remover is in my hair and a little bit in my eyebrows since I used a permanent dye to dye my eyebrows black. >> We're using the color remover on everything. I don't get why because the inspiration picture we just saw had black hair everywhere except for like one or two sections. So, I don't get it. >> Also, um I did use gloves and I scrubbed that through my hair with hot hot water. You can see some of the dye has already started to come off on my hand. Um now I'm going to be popping on one of these professional processing caps. The instructions say to apply heat to the hair. So, I am lucky enough to live in the Mojave Desert. [music] I'm going to be going outside and taking advantage of the very very hot summer sun that we have right now. Um >> Sunlight for removing color is the best. It's a humid very intense heat that is so good for lifting color. So, that's I love that. If it's summer where you are and you're lifting out your hair color, go outside while it processes with the bag on because you don't want your hair to dry out either. >> Instructions on the packet state that you need to be in the heat for 15 to 45 minutes. I'm going to go for 45 since I have black on my head. I'm probably going to wipe this stuff off my eyebrows. I do see that a little bit of the dye has already started to come out. I do have naturally very dark brown eyebrows. So, I'm not actually super worried about my brows and I don't want my skin to get irritated on my face since that's not [music] very cute. I'm not enjoying this portion of the video. Usually I avoid the sun like the plague, but here I am baking baking baking in the heat. >> What I usually do is just put on foil over my head and then I put a beanie on so that [music] it keeps all the heat in. It works for me that way. Like if I'm doing my own hair, not on a client. I wouldn't do that. >> The things you do for beauty. >> I love how she's just like standing in the sun trying to bake her hair. >> Right. It's officially been over 45 minutes that this has been sitting in my hair. It's still warm from the sun. I'm now going to be hopping in the shower. >> Ooh, I can see the black like melting off her hair, which is a great sign. >> And rinsing this out with like the hottest water that my shower can muster, and I'm going to be shampooing it with the um Malibu Undo Goo three times. Um that is so that all of the crystals from the Malibu CPR >> I love that you're following the directions. This makes me so happy. Yes, rinse for a long amount of time with very hot water. It'll help remove that artificial color pigment from the hair. >> I've heard that if you don't shampoo them all properly out of your hair, they will turn your hair pink. I'm going to hop in the shower, scrub it with the hottest water that I can, and hopefully all of the black is out. Listen to my hair. It is so dry. I can just feel it. Usually after I shampoo my hair, it has like a little bit less slip to it. >> Yeah, the thing with um CPR, it's a vitamin C base, which is very [music] dry. So, you got to put that moisture back in your hair after. >> But, my hair maintains its moisture really, really well. Based on what I can see kind of like in the sunlight from my window here, it's back to brown more or less. Um this is usually what my hair used to look like color-wise [music] when I would hop out the shower. I'm going to let this air dry. It's like every fiber [music] of my body to not do a deep conditioning treatment because I absolutely hate when my hair feels like this. So, it's probably going to look absolutely absurd when I come back to the camera um because it's >> [music] >> bone dry and there's no product in it, and I have curly hair. We'll see if this was successful or if I need to do another round of color remover. Uh hopefully I don't. That worked like a charm. >> Wow. >> I'm actually like kind of in shock. >> Yeah, I'd say that worked. Damn. Yeah, that really lightened your hair a lot. Maybe three shades. So, that's beautiful. And now we're just going to go back dark. So, what the >> I was convinced that I was going to have to do at least another round. The first round, it like completely got all the dye out of my hair. My hair is back to its original glory. I now feel confident enough to proceed with the bleaching. I have my bleaching developer. Okay, so I've measured out about 21 g of this 40 volume developer. I'm going to be putting in 10 g of the powder lightener. >> I love that we're measuring and she's using the powder lightener and 40 volume, which is a little spooky, but I think it'll be fine. I think if her hair can handle it. I don't know what her hair feels like cuz I can't touch it. But, 40 volume could be fine if it's open air application or she doesn't leave it on the hair long or too long. Otherwise, it might be a little too strong and make her hair a little stringy and gummy and break off. >> The sectioning is complete. I finished sectioning off my hair, mixed up my bleach, and then here I am just taking small sections of those sections that I made and fully deeply saturating my hair starting from the tip and working my way slowly to the root. So, the bleach is fully applied. >> Whoa. That is lightening so fast. She had permanent black color on her hair. I am impressed. It is like literally platinum blonde already. What? >> Um since this is a 40 volume developer, I'm already seeing a significant lift. I'm going to leave this on for about 20 more minutes. >> Guys, that's honestly the power of fine hair. It lightens like a charm. I have her time. But, also she did the color remover, which is a great step. And she used 40 volume open air application, so that was probably the right call on this. And it seems to be pretty even even though she did the the roots and the ends at the same time. >> I'm going to rinse off with cool water starting from the side and then working um in the order that I applied the bleach. Yeah, I have high hopes for my hair. Hopefully, the 40 volume isn't too much. >> We've reached the end of the timer. >> It's not quite done yet. Check a strand. [music] Take the color off a strand of your hair, and you'll really see what it looks like. When it has a thick >> [music] >> coating of bleach on it, you can't really tell what it looks like. >> Colorless at the moment. So, I'm going to quickly rinse this out and see you in a second. >> I just finished rinsing out the bleach. We're looking quite peachy. So, unfortunately, I will have to do a second round of bleach. >> You see what I'm saying? When there's bleach on it, it looks completely different. It is so peachy. Now, we're going to do all again. >> Totally fine, though. I did expect that. I was hoping we could do it in one pass. So, I'm going to quickly blow dry these sections using the same formula. I'm going to do the 40 volume developer again. My hair still feels fine. Um we'll see about afterwards, but yeah, I didn't get any breakage. Everything's still the same length, and um no stretchiness or anything. And I could comb through it pretty easily with my fingers and with a um fine-tooth comb. I will not be filming that part because it feels kind of redundant. So, I'm just going to see you after I've rinsed out the second round of bleach. >> She applied round two off camera and rinsed it off camera, and now we're going to see the results of round two of bleaching. >> Here is the wet result of the second round of bleach. I am very happy with this color, especially since at the start of the day, this was black. Um I'm really happy with the tone. This is wet. >> [music] >> So, once I dry this, I'm assuming it'll all be like basically a pale yellow, which is perfect. And I'm actually going to hop in the shower, do one more round of the clarifying shampoo. >> That looks amazing, and I think it's going to be the pale yellow you're looking for. yeah. >> Just to make sure that all of like the bleach and the color remover and any like gunk or Aquaphor from my face is [music] just off my hair, so that when I do the color, I'll have a nice, clean, even base. Hey, hi. I'm in the sunlight, so I can show you guys like the true tones of it. >> Wow. >> I am ooh, hello. I am pleased with this color. I think it's a really good base for the purpley gray that I'm planning to put on it. >> I would agree that it's a great base to put on the toner. And she's using a semi-permanent toner to do this, so I'm into it. You can definitely use semi-permanent, you can use permanent, you can do whatever you want. You can use Supernova, Supernova blonde [music] toning collection in particular, our hair mask to tone it, but whatever you want. >> All right, everything is shampooed. I'm fresh out the shower. I think the placement is so cool. I'm very much excited to put the toner on. I'm really digging how the blonde looks at the moment. Um, so this is really exciting. So I've gone ahead and re-sectioned out my hair, and then I dose out the dye, and go ahead and start applying it. >> She's applying this purple base toner to all the blonde parts of her hair. Now, you really don't need to use a brush. Damn, you're doing this very precisely, but just get it on. It should take like 1 minute to apply. [music] Just go and then comb it through. But, I will take it. I would rather you do it like this than it up, you know what I mean? I'm going to leave this on for about 30 minutes. I don't want it to be too purple. I just want to kind of tone it a little bit, [music] so. I am going to go do some bull for 30 minutes, and I will see you when I get back. Okay, I did the classic YouTube hair dye video thing and forgot to record a clip that same day, but here is it the next day at work. Um, it's kind of blue. And then here is it a few days after that clip. I wish you just kept the black you had in the beginning, and then added the blonde, and then just used like a Supernova foam to tone your hair. If it's two-toned, you can just rinse it out because Supernova foam is temporary hair color, so it can just rinse out right away. And every time you do your hair, you can make it more toned or less toned. You can kind of like customize it however you want. That's what I do with my hair. That's why it sometimes is more yellow, sometimes more gray, sometimes it's more whatever neutral toned. >> Much more white, very cute, not gray though.
