Video summary
The market opened with a significant shift toward risk-on sentiment, driven primarily by strong performance in the technology sector and crude oil prices. Despite crude oil futures dropping 3.8%, the broader indices showed remarkable acceleration, with the NASDAQ 100 rising nearly 3% and approaching its all-time high within about 200 points. The S&P 500 also gained 1.6%, while the Dow Jones Industrial Average climbed by roughly 0.8%. This positive momentum was supported by increased trading volume across the board, with NASDAQ futures seeing approximately 445,000 contracts traded. Meanwhile, bond yields remained relatively stable with the 10-year yield hovering near 4.96%, and the US dollar strengthened slightly, which put downward pressure on precious metals like gold and silver, though copper continued its upward trajectory toward new highs.
Technology stocks were the standout performers of the day, led by major gains in companies such as AMD, Intel, and Meta. AMD surged 10% to reach a market capitalization of one trillion dollars, while Intel climbed 12%. Meta shares also jumped 12%, pushing the company closer to its two-trillion-dollar valuation mark. The heat map for the NASDAQ 100 displayed very few red indicators, highlighting the widespread strength in the tech sector. This rally was particularly notable given that the previous week had been a short trading period with lower volume, yet this current session has already seen substantial share turnover, with Meta alone accounting for 40 million shares traded early in the day, signaling robust investor interest and confidence in these equities.
In the commodities space, Vista Gold emerged as a fan favorite following an acquisition announcement by Artemis Gold for $427 million, or approximately $283 per share. This deal represents a significant premium to Vista's recent trading price but leaves little room for further upside unless a bidding war ensues, effectively pricing in most of the potential gain. While the acquisition is viewed positively as it adds an advanced-stage gold development asset to Artemis's portfolio, traders are cautioned that stocks this close to a finalized deal carry inherent risks and limited profit potential without unexpected competitive bids. The transaction also highlights Vista's resilience after a period of volatility earlier in the year, where share prices had dipped significantly before recovering to levels near the acquisition offer.
Looking ahead, the market appears poised for continued strength as the trading day progresses toward its close, with expectations of further volume and potential index highs. The combination of technological innovation, strong corporate earnings momentum, and geopolitical developments regarding oil supply from the Gulf region is creating a favorable environment for risk assets. Investors are closely watching whether the dollar can break above the 100 price point and if the tech rally can sustain its pace without cooling off. As the session winds down, attention remains on maintaining this accelerated growth trajectory, with key indices like the Russell 2000 also contributing to the broad-based market advance despite being slightly further from their own highs compared to the Dow and S&P 500.

Good afternoon folks. Tommy O'Brien
coming to you live from TFN. Thanks for
kicking off the final hour of the
trading day right here with me at TFNN.
And we got quite a risk on day folks.
Technology stocks pushing this market
higher. We got a gold company
acquisition, a fan favorite. Yeah, a TFN
favorite, Vista Gold. We'll get into
that one in a moment for sure. And right
now though, it's about technology, but
it's about crude, folks. And it's about
it's about technology. Talking about
Facebook, Intel, tech stocks. We got
crude right now down 3.8%.
Okay. And yeah, there's going to be some
headlines. Trump, he may meet with his
counterpart possibly later this week
when you're talking about believe it's
the UN, right? Is that we're talking
about the UN? Let's see.
Yeah, not that one. We're talking about
this one that Yes. Trump said he will
probably be open to meeting his Iranian
counterpart at the UN General Assembly
in New York this week. Okay. So get the
headline exact. And then the other
headline out here for crude is that
satellite snapshots pointing to an
increase in Gulf oil flows.
Saudis observed oil loadings from inside
the Persian Gulf jumped over the
weekend. Oil super tankers with capacity
to collect 14 million barrels of oil
were observed in the nation's export
installations in the Gulf at the
weekend. And that's data from the EU
Sentinel 2 satellite. So that kicks
things off this morning and it turns
risk on and tech stocks. We'll kick it
off with tech stocks. We might get 3%
today, folks. Pretty remarkable
acceleration. You got NASDAQ 100 up 871
points. We're within about 200 points of
that all-time high in the futures back
here. And we're up nearly 3%, folks. And
yeah, you're doing it with some volume
across the board. Now, we got a full
hour left to go and we'll get some
volume on the close. Right now, you get
the NASDAQ futures about 445,000
contracts. S&Ps up 1.6%. Futures
all-time high, folks. 7844.
78.44. Never said those numbers on this
show cuz we've never been there on the
futures. Quite an acceleration.
Now, you look at the volume on the S&P
futures. A little bit light compared to
what we've been doing. We'll jump over
to the ETF structures in a moment. Dow
up by 8/10% 52,510. A gain of 432
points. to the Russell up by about 8/10%
as well or 23 points. 2904 and you see
where the Russell is compared to the
highs. You see where the Dow is right
compared to the highs. Dow's what 2,300
points off of the highs and that's only
about 5%. But yeah, and you got a NASDAQ
right at that level and you got the S&Ps
right at that level as well.
Now yields today, no real movement on
yields, right? Light day of volume so
far on yields. The 10-year right now up
six ticks. So, a little bit of higher
price, lower yield. And right now, we
have a 10-year yield of 4.96, folks.
Still right near 5%. 4.96 the number on
the 10ear. The dollar slight uptick
100.41. We'll see if we can break away
from this 100 price point, but dollar up
by almost 20 pennies today with a
stronger dollar. That's weighing on
metals. Gold down 1% 43.83 down by about
$40. You got silver right now down
nearly 1% as well. off by 57 pennies at
6658. Platinum up a dollar at 1807. We
jump over to copper up about one and a
quarter% 677 for copper. Copper its own
animal going for those highs yet again.
We hit a high today in copper of 684
folks. Quite a number.
And yeah, let's take a look at the heat
map. How's this for a NASDAQ 100, right?
Very few red in the NASDAQ 100. Sandis
one of them. But you're talking about
AMD, Intel, okay? ARM up 16%. AMD,
check out the market cap on AMD. 1
trillion, folks, up 10%. Intel up 12%
right now. And Meta up 12% as well. Meta
approaching the two trillion mark,
making a run for the all-time highs as
well.
You talk about it. And as I referenced
at the beginning of the show, so Vista
now,
Artemis Gold, they're buying Vista,
folks, $427 million. Okay, that deal
works out to about I think it was two,
let me get the exact number, what the
stock number is. You get 0966 of Artemis
Gold,
283 a share, 29% premium based on a
20-day volume weighted average. Okay.
So, Artemis is my Invista.
All stock deal.
Okay.
Yeah. All stock deal.
They currently hold nearly just under 5%
shares of outstanding. The Artemis does.
And they're acquiring Vista, adding an
advanced stage gold development asset,
Vista Gold.
And we take a look at this. So, the
number is 283. Okay. Okay, you're
trading at 271. You trade as high as 279
today.
Pretty remarkable. They get them for
barely over what you were trading at
back last September.
All right, here we are a year later. You
chop around
and they get them at 283. Meanwhile,
we're just trading at 254. But you know
what? I bet I bet this slide here caused
some worry, right? You run up to 313,
you think you can't lose, and before you
know it, gold's taking a digger. Your
shares are at 150. And that's July 13th,
folks. And here we are nearly 2 months
later, and they're selling that company
for 427 million or 283 a share.
Just looking at where some of these
highs have been prior. Yeah. Made it all
the way up to 209 in 2016. My goodness.
Right. 283. They take it out. So that's
the action in Vista.
And you know, for if you're thinking
about trading this folks, that's a tough
one. You're gambling. Okay. Anytime
you're that close to the acquisition,
right? It's almost fully priced in. Now,
there could always be a bidding war,
etc., right? They could go above it.
But,
you know, I I wouldn't get too caught up
in trying to trade equities like that
when they have deals in place to be
acquired, you know, pennies away from
where that acquisition price is, and you
made it as high as 279 today and the
acquisition price was 283. So, unless
they feel like, you know, unless a
competitor comes in out of the woodwork,
your your possible gain here is 12
pennies
and that's it. And you always have some
risk on the back side of that. All
right, we jump over to Meta.
Talk about quite a number, man. Meta
shares up by 12%.
And you know, you look at the volume,
folks. This is a weekly. Look at the way
you ramp up. That's what you like to
see. And that week of 9097, that was a
short trading week.
Okay. So,
tremendous volume that week actually,
but still strong volume last week and
we're going to blow it away this week,
folks. It's not even the end of Monday
and we've done 40 million shares right
now on Meta. 100 million's a big week.
We've done 40 million already.
There's your daily.
Zuckerberg.
Muse. I may have to check out this Muse.
I may have to. It's at the top of the
charts. their AI assistant meta shares
up by 12%. We're coming back folks
talking with Steve Rhodess, author of
Mastering Probability, host of the
Trader Edge.
