Zheng entered the tournament as a qualifier and would take on Liudmila Samsonova in the first round. After dropping the first set, would fight back to win 4-6 6-3 6-1. In the second round, she'd take on Petra Kvitová and again another three-setter, dropping the second set but fighting back to win 6-4 2-6 6-1. In the third round, she'd take on Keys, the 22nd seed. And this is a battle. After fighting back from a set down, she'd have to fight back from love-5 down in the third and a match point to get the win 1-6 7-6 7-5. In the fourth round, Zheng would take on Swiatek, the number eight seed. She'd only beaten once and that was on a clay court. And after coming back from 5-love down again, this time in the first set, she won in straight 7-5 6-3 to advance to the quarterfinals.
