Elena Rybakina versus Iga Swiatek is a
blockbuster quarterfinal match up over
in Cincinnati for 2026. And both players
played each other last week in Canada,
so it's going to be a fun rematch.
Swiatek entered the tournament as the
number seven seed, with a bye in the
first round. In the second round, she
took on Arango, the qualifier. She had
no problem getting through in straight
6-3 6-love. In the third round, she took
on Muchova, the 29th seed. After
dropping the first set, she'd fight back
to win 4-6 6-1 6-1. In the fourth round,
she took on Parry. She had no problem
getting through in straight 6-3 6-3 to
advance to the quarterfinals. Rybakina
entered the tournament as the number two
seed, with a bye first round. In the
second round, she took on Townsend. She
had no problem getting through in
straight 6-3 6-4. In the third round,
she took on Fręch, who had just taken
out Ostapenko. And after a close second
set, would get through in straight 6-4
7-6. In the fourth round, she took on
Stearns, but again, no problem for
Rybakina getting through in straight 6-4
6-4 to advance to the quarterfinals.
These two have played 13 times before
with Swiatek leading 7-6, including that
match last week in the Canadian final
where Swiatek got a straight sets win.
But the way that Rybakina has been
playing this week, I think this might be
a different match up and really a closer
score. If Swiatek is going to win this
one, she needs to get take that
confidence from last week and really try
and bully Rybakina around the baseline.
She played so solid last week and didn't
give Rybakina anything, and Rybakina did
throw in a lot of errors. So, she really
needs to be prepared though because I
think this Rybakina this week is not
going to be doing the same. If Rybakina
is going to win this one, she needs to
just keep doing what she's doing. She's
been playing so well this week and
winning so much easier than she was last
week when she was making, you know,
three setters every time. So, yeah, I
think she's just going to do what she's
doing and use this court to her
advantage and try and bully Swiatek.
What a fun match up here and what a
great rematch a week after we saw them
in the final of Canada. I'm going to go
with Rybakina in a close three setter. I
reckon she will get her revenge. And
Swiatek has had a really good, you know,
couple of weeks on the hard courts and
she's back. But I don't know, I just
feel like this court and the way that
Rybakina is playing this week, I reckon
she might get the win here in three. But
