Video summary

The Rochester-Stockbridge Unified District board meeting convened on August 25, 2026, to address a range of operational updates and strategic initiatives for the upcoming school year. The principal's report highlighted the successful return of teachers and the implementation of "Welcome Back Night" events at both campuses to facilitate smoother transitions for families. Significant progress was noted in securing grant funding to hire Christopher Thomas as a Farm, Forest, and School Coordinator, alongside plans for artist residencies to fill the art teaching role through collaborative projects rather than a single permanent hire immediately. Additionally, the district announced the installation of new bleachers in the Rochester gymnasium to improve spectator comfort and capacity for sports events. A major focus of the meeting was the adoption of key policies and improvement goals required by state mandates. The board approved the Continuous Improvement Plan (CIP) goals, which target literacy skills for early learners, mathematics proficiency, and the reduction of chronic absenteeism. Data presented showed promising trends in moving students from below standard performance to proficient levels. Furthermore, the board reviewed and moved forward with adopting new policies regarding electronic communication between students and employees, as well as updates to social media guidelines, ensuring the district remains compliant with state regulations while maintaining clear community standards. Looking toward the future, the board discussed the requirements of Act 170, which mandates participation in a merger study committee involving neighboring districts. After deliberation, the board appointed Robin as the primary representative and Jesse as an alternate to ensure robust representation throughout the study process. The meeting also addressed the scheduling of the upcoming September regular board meeting, settling on September 14th due to Labor Day falling on the first Monday. Board members emphasized the importance of reviewing survey results prior to their retreat on September 1st to ensure neutral and informed discussions regarding community feedback and potential structural changes. Finally, the board agreed to add an agenda item to their next meeting to establish a clear protocol for responding to community emails and outreach, ensuring all voices are heard and addressed appropriately.

All right, I sent them an email. Um, we do have a quorum and uh so I can go ahead and get started, but hopefully they'll they'll join us. So, yes, you can go ahead and start recording. There we go. >> Excellent. I will call the meeting to order at 7 o'clock. Is there any adjustments to the agenda? >> Great. No adjustments. Uh do we have any public comment? No public comment. Okay, let's move on to approve the minutes from June 16th, 2026, the regular wagon wheel and Tuesday, August 4th, 2026, the special community forum, and entertain a motion to approve those. >> I move approve both. >> All right. Is there second? >> Great. We have a motion and a second. Is there any discussion? All those in favor signify by saying I. >> I. >> Right. Um I'm not sure why it says public comments again. I think one of them was supposed to be board comments. So why don't we go ahead and put board comments uh here. Is there any comment from the board? Um, I would like to thank my board for um powering through while I was away on vacation and and uh had a nice seamless uh meeting. I was able to watch it via um the Orca uh media which was really wonderful. So, thank you so much for everybody for your participation and um in in that that was really wonderful. >> Is there any other board comments? Okay. Well, let's move on to the reports to the board. We'll start with the principal's report. >> Yeah. So, you have my um report in front of you. A couple seems like there's a lot more going on just because teachers are back in the building. Uh today was their first day. Many of them have been back before that, but they're setting up their classrooms today and we have inservice the remainder of the week. Uh we had new teacher orientation yesterday. Um and so I would say that everybody's excited. Tomorrow is welcome back night at Rochester from 5:30 to 6:30. So families get to come see classrooms, uh meet teachers. We find that this is nice. It makes that transition for the first day of school a little bit smoother. Everybody knows where they're going and gets an opportunity to see everyone before school even starts. >> Rochesterers is tomorrow night. >> Yep. And Stockbridge is Thursday night. >> And they're both 5:30 to 6:30. >> 5:30 to 6:30. That is great. I did see that on the website. Um so that was nice to see that communication because I I all places, right? Um so that's exciting. We also secured some grant funding to be able to welcome a farm, forest, and school coordinator, uh, Christopher Thomas. He comes to us with a forestry background and he runs his own homestead and he has quite the experience working with kids before that. So, he's excited to get started and be a part of our community. Um, I I feel like we've got a lot coming up, but that's okay. Saturday the for farm forest to school group has organized um they are hosting the popup on the porch breakfast at the Rochester cafe from 8 to 11. So we have lots of families who have contributed breakfast items for that. Um and all the proceeds will directly go right back into our farm and forest to school programming. And then on September 3rd, we're hosting a community viewing with a discussion and community dinner of the Hopeville documentary around literacy. >> Okay. >> Um and that'll be at the hub in the auditorium uh at 5:30. Okay. >> Is when the viewing is dinner starts at 5 and all are welcome to attend that. Um really excited to start off the new year. What I will share is that we haven't been fortunate enough to find someone to fill the art position, >> but I do have multiple artists and residencies lined up that are multiple weeks like >> Oh, that's great. >> projects. So, different uh >> different artists in our from our communities, which I think is great as well. Absolutely. >> Um are going to come in and are taking like a three to four week like stay so to speak to work with kids. Um, so we have someone coming in September. She's a parent actually who's done some One Planet programming, Lauren Scoggin, and she's also done like some local paint and sips, but she's going to um lead the way. We're working with someone who's done murals before. So, we're going to do some murals around our campuses as well. And then there there's like a whole list of people we've been reaching out to. Um, so I have someone who's kind of interested in the position but hesitant to make the jump. So I'm hoping to also bring them in and kind of maybe partner with the artist in residency to see what it's like to actually be the art teacher, so to speak. >> I like that. >> And hopefully it'll transition. >> Yeah. Baby steps. >> Baby steps. Yes. But we have such a artistic community, so it's worked out really well. As soon as word got out, I had lots of people reaching out being like, I'm interested. I'm interested. >> I think it's a wonderful idea. That's great. It's it's been the solution for right now and it is great. It's a great way to get the community in the school as well. So, we're excited about that. >> Excellent. >> Um and then the last thing I'll just say is I did provide what should be the enrollments. >> Yes. >> Uh moving forward, I think these are pretty consistent right now. We've had quite a few enroll and quite a few for us. Right. So, about five different families enroll in the past week. So, this is as up tod date as of the 19th. It hasn't changed much. Maybe by one or two kids, but not much. So, um, but those are the configurations just as we continue our conversations moving forward. Uh, I wanted you guys to have that information. >> That's so cool. >> Yep. And then the last thing that's happening this weekend is we are um acquiring bleachers to go into the into the Rochester gym and they will be installed this weekend. >> I'll send you guys a picture >> once it's all done. >> But we are excited about that project as well. >> Well, I would think uh just to butt in that as a former AD, you must be very excited about the bleachers. >> I am. I am excited about bleachers and not scrambling to find uncomfortable chairs for people, right? Like I know that's that's not the ideal situation. So, >> it's great because I went to a younger kids basketball game there this past year and it's highly attended. So, it'll be nice to have the bleachers to be able to accommodate better. So, I'm very excited that that worked out and with our partners and the rest of the SU were able to make that work for us. >> We're excited. Great fact. Um, >> is Go. Sorry. No, go ahead. Rob, >> the position is a point4 for both schools. Is that what it is? >> Yes, it's point4. It's uh one day a week in Stockbridge and one day a week in Rochester. >> Okay. Excellent. Thank you. >> Then we'll save this. >> Is there any other questions for uh Lindy on the principal's report? Notice you don't have a superintendence report. >> No, because I can't be everywhere. >> Yes, of course. >> Okay. Well, do you want us to uh jump around at all while you're here or just >> I think I'm good. I think if you want to do policy Yeah. then we'll I can 7.1. >> Great. Well, then uh 6.2 the policy committee. Um Robin, you're our representative on the policy committee. Did you want to speak to >> No, I'm Jess. >> Jesse is Oh, I'm so sorry. I'm so sorry. Okay. Well, that's fine, but I'm not sure where they are. Towards the end here. >> Towards the end. >> Okay, great. So, we have um policy uh B8, electronic communication between students, employees, and students. Um is this this is a policy that is um uh mandatory um that we don't have on the books yet. So, we're um looking at this to adopt this in this is uh the second reading. So, I'm not sure if anybody had any specific uh questions or comments on this policy at this time. Okay. If you as you look through this, if you do, please um get in touch with Jamie or with uh Jesse to uh address it with the policy committee um so that um it can be voted in at our next meeting. And then we'll go over to policy B35. Um policy on social media. Um, this policy got updated uh slightly just to reflect the uh B8 policy and uh was there any questions or comments regarding this policy? >> Okay. If you do read through and have anything, like I said before, please contact Jamie and or Jesse. And we'll be looking at adopting these at our >> September meeting, but we haven't even set a September meeting yet. So, >> September one, >> that's your board retreat. >> We have not set a regular September meeting. So, we should talk about that at the end tonight. How do you want to handle? >> Oh, yeah. So, and what about the September 15th meeting? That is a public forum. >> Okay. So, we have got it. Okay. >> We do have two meetings in September, but not a regular meeting. >> Not a regular meeting. Okay. >> That's Labor Day. >> Okay. Thank you. >> Great. So, do that. >> Do Go ahead, Bill. >> Yeah. I just want to say that uh um policy BA we don't have this um and it's very important again having written very carefully considered and um reviewed policies that help guide all our boards is really an asset. So we don't have to be flying by blind or kind of ducking and and weaving or whatever. We have a wellthoughtout policy and that's one thing ours has done is to um keep ahead of the game in having policies ready and available when we need them. >> Thank you Bill. >> Hi all. Sorry I'm having some technical issues tonight between the two sites and with teams. So, I've been able to listen, Amy. I hadn't been able to comment until now, but um switch devices. So, thanks. I'm here. Thanks. >> Excellent. Well, thank you very much for letting me know you were you were here and welcome. >> That's great. Um okay, we are going to move on to discussion to appoint a member to the act 170 merger study committee. Um, >> do you want me to go into >> We're getting a lot of feedback at Misha. Is there anything we can do to try to maybe turn it down in here? >> It's like coming out of this speaker. I think >> I think it's because somebody wasn't muted, but I think >> we're good now. Oh, that's better. >> Okay. Um, and so just to remind board members, uh, district boards due to act 170 need to appoint a member to participate in a merger study committee, which I went over at the full board meeting. This is a unified union school district merger study committee that will take place with all the district boards of the SU with the Orange Southwest School District Board which serves the towns of Brainree, Brookfield and Randolph and the Echo Valley School District which serves the towns of Orange and Washington. Um Echo Valley is a K8 operator. Um OSSD is a K12 operator. I expect the time commitment is you should assume is going to be um twice a month ramping into the winter. I my sense is you'll probably be once in October, maybe once in November, but my sense is that by December you're probably looking at twice a month because you're supposed to issue a updated report on the work of the merger study committee by January. and you're um are going to be required to have a report completed by next September. A reminder, I will be there to support you um and to collect data for you and along this work. I'm not a participating member and I'm not the facilitator. There is a hired facilitator that's provided to you by the state. The way that act uh 170 was created, there is a lead facilitator which was hired by the current only operating uh Bosei in the state. Now BOSI has been replaced by CISA. Same same entity in law to begin with. Okay. >> They just created it voluntarily. >> Uh the some SUS and SDS to the south of us. They hired the lead facilitator which has been hired. He is then charged to hire seven regional facilitators which will guide the merger study committees within each cooperative educational service area. Um and so for us that's the Wooki Valley cooperative educational service area. in that he will that they whoever the lead facilitator hires will be um overseeing three merger study committees. >> Wow. Okay. >> So there's a central like a central Vermont area unified union school district study committee. >> Okay. Um and then there's a looy county essentially unified union >> that this facilitator is going to be >> and a little bit of Orleans and Calonian the loo one. >> Okay. All right. Um so what we are looking for is to appoint one member of our board to participate in uh this merger study committee. Um, I do I do want to say that um I feel that it we should definitely have somebody on the committee that is going to be here a year from now and I guess this will be my time to tell you all that I am my term is up in May and I am not planning on rerunning. So, um I think it would be more appropriate for somebody else to um take the helm with this one. Bill, go ahead. >> Bill, go ahead. >> Well, first of all, >> I'd hate to hear you say that, >> but strategically that gives us all as board members a few months to twist your arm or u do everything that we can do to have you stay with us um um for another term. Um, that said, I I'd like to nominate Robin to be if she's available for our representative to the merger committee. >> Great. >> That's Robin. Thank you, >> Robin. Thank you. What What do you feel? Do you have >> I I have You have to go there, right? You can't do it virtually. No, no, they'll be hybrid meetings is my assumption >> because me in the winter and night driving are not friends at this point in my being. Um, you you learned that last winter when I come online for just an hour. So, unless it was across the street. >> I'm reluctant. I I um >> Okay. Well, let's >> let's hear um is there Jesse? Do you have any interest in participating and being in the the member on this study committee? >> Oh, he's muted. You're muted. I don't know if you're >> Sorry, it's been a technical difficulty day. >> Sorry. Apologize. been fluid between my phone and and whatnot. Um I'm I'm happy to be considered for it. I'm I'm here for this term and and then potentially another should it transpire in that fashion. So um to the extent that Robin it's it's a longer tenure than than you might consider, I'm I'm happy to um take the spot if if the board would like. >> Yeah. Do you think this this is going to be more than two years? >> No. >> No, it has to finish up by next September. >> Okay. >> Go ahead, Bill. >> Yeah. Um Jamie told us >> in our SU meeting that >> um he recommended that each board have elect a a merger a representative and an alternative alternate. So that it's an opportunity here that we could join both Robin and Jesse. You could toss it up, whatever the case is, but we would have really solid representation. That's an ideal. >> Yeah. The one comment um that uh Jamie did make was that having a alternate is is fine. We're not sure if we we haven't been told we can, but we haven't been told we can't. Uh but an alternate just needs to be as committed to be at every meeting as the um person um that is um nominated or appointed uh just because of being kept up to speed with the um everything that's going on. So, um, >> so both people would have to attend each meeting >> if >> I'd recommend that you do that. >> Yeah. >> And again, we don't have to appoint a alternate. Um, again, we haven't been told that we could. Um, but we haven't been told we couldn't. So, >> there's feedback. >> Yeah. this one two >> um if if it's in the board's best interest I mean I I certainly Robin you've got a lot more tenure than me and exposure to these topics and and so um if you are willing to take lead and and take me as an alternate I'm happy to do that um and if you decide it's it's a commitment that is hard for you to take on I'm I'm happy to do that as My only fear is I know I'll be away for several weeks next summer, >> which is when you'll be wrapping up the report. >> Yeah. >> Likely, right? >> But if Jesse, you're willing to like jump in when I'm done, that would be great. >> No, Robin, that's that's great. I can shadow you throughout. That's fine. >> And as long as I can do it online, it's sure. >> And these meetings are open to the public. >> And I do encourage board members to attend as much as possible. >> So keep up to date with what is being discussed. >> So Bill, you could take a friendly amendment to take your motion and include Jesse as an alternate. I should uh accept the amendment and have Jesse as our alternative or alternate to be our representatives to the merger committee. >> Second. Is there any further discussion? >> All those in favor signify by saying I. I. I. >> Hi I. Thank you very much, Robin and uh Jesse. I greatly appreciate it and we are your um we are supporting you behind you anything you need and Jamie as well. So, um thank you for this very important work that you'll be doing. Thank you. All right, we'll move on to summer facilities improvements update on the facility projects. >> So, school looks great. I think the biggest one is that the bleachers are going in in Rochester this weekend and then um with EI being in two different places already in the SU they will be to us in the fall like early fall to do the work on the windows that we've been >> and how many windows is it? >> Oh uh a bunch a bunch it's pretty it's all of Rochester and then some updates in some classrooms in Stockbridge and and then replacement in there. So, we'll get a I'll have a timeline hopefully by the depends when the September meeting is, >> but we'll get you guys a timeline and are they'll be doing it during the school day or >> they'll like come in on their hope their original hope was we have a long weekend in October. So, they're hoping to come in like on that Thursday night >> and work through and get one building done and then come back um as well over some weekends to get the other. That's great that they're willing to um do that. >> So, that's that's the original plan. Like I said, when I get that finalized, I'll share that out with folks, but that was the original um update that I was given. >> Okay. >> Yeah. >> Great. Is there any uh questions on the summer facilities improvements that are going to be the fall improvements? All right. Uh Rochester Stockbridge Schools continuous improvement plan. >> Right. So right after uh right after the principal report there's something that says araid cip which stands for continuous improvement plan goals and then behind that is the actual documents that will go to the AOE. So it includes all the backup data the plan and what it actually um looks like in its implementation. So the three goals, we're required to have one in literacy per act 139, which is that we're tracking our K through three students to ensure that they're having access to um basic literacy skills, right? Decoding, phmic awareness, things like that to ensure that they're going to be successful readers, a math goal, and then a chronic absentees. >> Okay. And this is goals that you have. So, our leadership team sat down and looked at the data that from our track my progress and talked about where we wanted to target and we just continue um to go after like we just want to keep making sure >> that those students that are performing below standard are being challenged and pushed up. >> Pushed up. Okay. Um so very similar goals to last year but the the data has changed >> and this is an internal thing or you've reported state >> this goes to the AOE so the document you see in front of you there's one for Rochester one for spectra it's like the only time you see it split out >> right okay >> okay um those documents and you'll I don't know if it really downloaded that way but the second part of the document or section f is like progress monitoring so what are we looking at I even kept the stuff from last year in there because I liked like to remember what we did and we have to report out on it at the beginning of the year, the middle of the year and the end of the year. >> Got it. >> And so that's it directly ties to some of our title funding. >> Okay. >> And how we access those funds. So what does have to happen is one happy to take feedback if there's something you guys see or need. But I uh we do need approval that you're in support of our continuous improvement of the goals themselves. and then we post them on our website um after it's accepted by both you guys and the state. Okay. >> So folks have access to those. >> I make a motion that we approve the SIP goals for Rochester and Stockbridgeidge. >> Second. Is there any further discussion or questions? >> Okay. Yep. We got one. Bill, go ahead. Bill, you can um go ahead. >> Muted, >> Bill, I think you're muted. >> Yeah, there I am. >> Excuse me. The computer is um It must be AI beating me up. >> So, um I'm just saying I'm so impressed with the CIP plan and when we look at our goals for Stockbridge Rochester, look how far we've come. Um and and and we're pledging ourselves um and these goals to go even further. Um and that's a hell of a commitment. And look at this look at the this the starting points um for the below standard going from 31 to 20%. Well, when you take that 31 off 100% that tells you we're way over 50%. and being proficient or above proficient and look at look at the uh that was in illiteracy and in math we're going from 8 to 5%. I mean that's just that's just you know it's all I can think of is it's walk on water s numbers and then um chronic absenteeism. I mean you read in the country this is this is a a crisis of enormous enormous impact if the kids aren't here how do they learn and when they get back it it normally can can upset the the vibe in the classroom and everything. So, you're going those numbers are low to begin with and we're pledging them to go even lower. So, I'm proud. I'm um I just think um I I can't say enough about what we're pled what we've done and what we're committing ourselves to do. So, I wholeheartedly like to have this as our approved goals in these three areas. >> Thank you, Bill. That was wonderfully said. Uh, any other discussion on this motion? Great. There's a motion to accept the CIP goals. All those in favor signify by saying I. >> By saying I >> I >> I. >> There's three there's feedback again. >> Again. >> Yes. Every time there's more than one person um off mute, we get feedback. So, unfortunately, when we do voting, it just happens to be. So, >> if we just try um to speak and then put oursel back on mute, that will be helpful. >> Okay. Uh review the tentative RSU board retreat goals in preparation for the uh September 1st meeting. So, >> I don't know if we have anything in our packet in regards to it. I um the um survey has been closed and the um information is being compiled or is done compiling. I'm not really sure. um uh that I uh I feel that the um the agenda should look something like us reviewing the results >> um as a first step and to really review and discuss those results. um then we can move forward to any type of um actions or further >> like next steps >> next steps that are needed. Um that would just be my suggestion. I look forward to hearing um other board members. >> Do we expect to have the survey results and the surveys themselves in advance of of that? >> So I do know that it's all compiled. I have not seen it yet, but Jamie has. Um, I just don't think he's had the capacity to look it through before tonight. Um, so I think we will have that information, Jesse, to be able to send out so people can read it through as well. And then I would imagine we could have them walk us through a protocol of kind of, you know, what are our thoughts and shareouts, unless you guys have another suggestion about how you want to look at it. I would definitely like to see those results prior to that retreat. So I um I don't feel that we can be efficient at a retreat if we don't have those results ahead of time. And I would encourage them to come in um you know before the weekend so or you know by the weekend so that uh we do have time it is Tuesday right so we have time to look them over and ingest them and and uh etc. Yeah, I mean I I think it's really important to have access to the surveys in advance. Mhm. >> Um, you know, I think we've got a those people who participated are passionate >> about their um input and and so I I think it's it would be ideal if we had access to not only the survey data as it may potentially come from uh our third party but also to the actual uh surveys themselves like all the responses >> is what you mean by that. >> I do. I I I think that's really important. Um be because you know >> I want I think the weighted questions are very important >> of course and and and that will allow us as a board to find what's palatable and not in in regards to broad considerations. Mhm. >> Um but I I don't suspect there's a way to uh quantify the open box questions, >> right? >> And and and so I I think it's very very important that we as a board have access to all of that um in advance and certainly in advance of any potential public comment >> um having to do with the survey data. So I I don't know what their uh timeline is or capacity or bandwidth, whatever term you want to use, but I I think it would be good if we could make sure we had in that information in advance. >> Excellent. Thank you very much, Jesse. I uh wholeheartedly agree with what you're saying. Um so, we will make I'll talk to Jamie before I leave tonight um and to make sure that to to make sure that that is something we are able to do and and um we'll go from there. Bill, >> I might be jumping ahead. I'm sorry. Uh, are you still on um what agenda items we have for our retreat? Is that >> Yes. >> the same page or not? >> That is where we are. Yep. We uh my recommendation is that we start out by reviewing the um survey data and analyzing and discussing so then we can talk about what potential next steps um would be. >> Um I have a couple more suggestions. Um, one is that um, it would I think it would be very useful for us at the retreat at at some point at the retreat or at the end of the retreat to kind of plan our calendar or our process going forward. remember we had that um that that our consultants gave us a kind of a time frame that would lead up to a recommendation for a community um vote and um we've come a long distance. We uh we've now got a survey we're going to be reviewing the results. We still haven't as a board had the opportunity to discuss um the possible restructuring ideas and that's going to take some time. And we also haven't um taken advantage in the good sense of asking our professional administrators, Jaime's team, to weigh in on what information and data they have that could help guide us in our decision making. And um so I think we should um at the retreat um come prepared to not only to talk about the results of the survey, but what kind of information would help us come up with the best possible decisions we can for our community, for our students and parents. Um, and because I know I don't I'm not an expert on this, but I happen to think that we should avail ourselves to to that help. So I think that should be part of the process for our retreat and we fit that into kind of our strategic plan calendar going forward so that we have enough time to discuss it and consider these things and come up with the best possible um uh strategy uh that will benefit us all. >> Excellent. Thank you Bill. I I agree. Thank you. Yes. I think that's Josh. >> I think Josh has a comment. >> Are you finished, Bill, or did you have another? >> If you're done, Bill, if you can mute yourself so we um don't have the feedback. Thank you. Okay, Josh, go ahead. >> Thanks, Amy. Uh yeah, I just wanted to chime in to the points you were both driving home at. It's going to be hard to really engage in these conversations without the actual information that people took the time and effort to uh submit and I've been hearing a lot of feedback from people you hear awesome about I can't wait to for you to read and it's like we need that in hand before we engage in conversation Amy thank you so much for bringing this to Jamie and Jesse uh echo everything you had suggested and u yeah thank you both um for just saying I as well to to all those statements Thank you very much. >> Excellent. Wonderful. Thank you very much. It's important to know that our board is on the same page. >> So Amy, if I can just just one parting comment on this. >> Absolutely. Um, Bill, with with complete respect, um, I I I think that we're we're in a place right now where a lot of our community feels like their input needs to be truly heard. And and so I want to step back potentially from um relying on the SU and the other points of impact on this in regards to their input and and make sure that people who have completed these surveys feel that they're getting a completely um neutral response from us and and so I I think this is an opportunity and this is me being a new board member but hearing impact from people who took place in the last survey and felt that things weren't truly implemented or that things were potentially influenced. And so I want to make sure that when we review this information and we go back to our communities that we're going back to them with the priority of their feedback and finding out what our communities will embrace or not. Um and and I think that's really really important. Um, and so I'm not discounting your your your comments, but I I think as neutral as we can go into this review of the survey data as we can will benefit all of us community and the board as well. >> That's that sounds um good. And I do like what Bill said about knowing further questions that we're going to need to ask our professional administration and process going forward. But that to your point, Jesse, might be the um agenda for a a followup meeting after we have really looked at just evaluating the survey data and hearing. >> Absolutely. I'm not suggesting it's a an agenda item. I'm just putting putting a comment in there. We obviously have a lot of things to consider. obviously without seeing the the data and and so I just I just want to make sure we go into this um as neutrally as possible when we receive the data. >> Very well said. Uh my wonder is if and maybe it's not for September 1st but maybe it's for a future meeting to kind of merge Jesse's point and Bill's point is that you as a board come up with a a directive for Jamie and myself of like okay this is what we've heard from the community and maybe it comes after the community meeting on the 15th after we share out the data or whatever that's going to look like but we've heard we want to dig in deep to however many ideas there are, but we need to know like budget or what this could look things like that. Like you guys start to come up with that list of questions, so to speak based on the survey data and maybe the community meeting on the 15th because I agree with Jesse. I think people want to make sure that they're heard and it's not influenced. And I hear what you're saying, Bill, like you want some expert feedback. And the best way I know how to do that is to give data on specific things that may I haven't even seen the survey data either so I don't have a good read on what to say but um then maybe you can give us the directive of some information to come back with right like and I don't know what that would look like without the survey stuff in front of uh in front of me but I think maybe that could kind of be a little bit of both if that makes sense to folks. >> I agree. I think it um um it's good for us to understand these are some items that we might need to be addressing in another couple meetings after we've gotten through this digestion. >> Yeah. >> Uh did I see uh a hand up? >> I think Josh did when you might have taken away and and this is just a um I guess a policy question in regards to the board. So um when we receive this data back and when we as the board come to and this is partially Lindy me going to you um so when we receive the survey data >> and then we as the board get together and then we say here are the two or three or what have we as options that that the communities have aligned on for us to consider and then we get together as the board and we say well with these These are the items that we're going to forward. Do we then forward those items to yourself and Jamie in regards to budgetary questions and other presentations to to the communities in regards to the impact of of those potential questions, >> right? So, yes, exactly, Jesse. You could say we're giving Lindy and Jamie the directive that we'd like them to explore >> whatever X, Y, and Z is, right? And we want to know the budget implications. We want to know what that looks like for all our communities. We want to know what that means staffingwise. I mean, the list is endless, right? When you start to have these types of conversations. Um, and then you could say, can you please come back to us and share it out in like XY, right? Like here's the first thing, here's the second thing, here's the third thing, or whatever it may be. >> Um, I don't want to say there's like only three options because who knows what people came up with. People are super creative sometimes, right? So, >> so it's it's like right once we once we've looked at it and we have an understanding of of the community and then we we I feel that the next is going to be talking to our administrators about the feedback we got from the community to say, you know, is this a viable option at all? Is this going is this going to be the best outcomes for our students? Um and then to explore as much down those roads as we need to to get more information so that we can make informed decisions on stuff or you know um and at the same time we are working with this merger study committee um on the um youii oh youu Uds right um unified union um school districts. Um so I think it's all very important work and uh I think it's important that as we kind of focus down on some ideas uh that we do indeed really focus down and ask for information on ideas that we really feel viable and not just say oh well let's just look let's just try to get information on what every single thing looks like every every possible option. So, but it's really hard to comment on any of this until we see the the surveys, till we see um the outcomes. And I I think that's where we are at this point. >> And I also think that 15th might be a point to be like we heard all these things, right? I think being really transparent about all the survey results so people know that we read every single one that came back because I agree with you, Jesse, and what you're saying about that. I think that's very important. and then being able to say, "Okay, this is the direction we've we're thinking about giving the administration. This is what we want them to explore. What other questions do you guys need to know >> as a community?" Right? I think that would be helpful, too. >> Right. >> Um, but without the data, like again, it's I'm going in blind a little bit here. Without the data in front of you to be able to help guide >> Yeah. No, I mean Lindy, I I think the important aspect here >> is that if we have, you know, we've got bell curves, right? And then we have outliers, >> right? And and and so the majority of people are going to fall in some sort of bell curve, >> right? >> Right. And then you're going to have outliers. And and I I I just think it's incredibly important in in this period of time. And I wasn't here for your >> prior runthroughs of these. So, I mean, let me disclose that, of course. Um, but but to acknowledge if someone brings something up in one of these conversations and and to be able to say, "Yes, I saw that comment. Absolutely. That's important, but >> let let's please understand that that that wasn't in the majority of of decisions, right, from the community, >> right? Let's acknowledge it so that that you don't you don't feel alienated, >> but but we need to focus on what the majority of the community wants to focus on, right? And and and I I think we've got an opportunity to do that um in the face of what's been coming on from what's being pushed down by the state that we can actually. >> Right. >> Excellent. Thank you. So, uh, is there any other um comments in regards to our retreat that is going to be on the 1st, August 1st, which is um next Tuesday, >> I believe. >> Excuse me. September September 1st. Not not August. >> I was with you. >> Okay. You were. >> Yeah. Uh, and that is at um I believe it's at Stockbridge. No, >> it's not on my calendar. >> It's at It's at Stockbridge is what I have written down. And uh but I'm not sure I have a time in my calendar. I think I just put a placeholder in. And I believe it's at 6, but I think it's at 6:00 p.m. Does that sound right to folks, other folks that maybe have it? >> Oh, it's probably the same time as the previous um retreat. It was five >> five >> cuz it's a long it's a longer time right so >> oh sorry I'm thinking of the community meetings you're probably right >> okay >> yep >> 5 o'clock we will confirm that to make but you're probably right it's 5:00 >> I think you're right Robin >> but it is at Stockbridge I do know that much because our last one was at Rochester so we keep rotating >> okay it's Uh, go ahead, Bill. Do you have a another comment on the board retreat? >> No, I don't. >> Okay. Uh, no problem. If there's no further comments, then we are going to move on to uh new hires or resignations. >> So, just as I mentioned in my principal report, as folks joined, we do have um someone through a grant funded position. and his name is Christopher Thomas who's going to be joining us as our farm forest and school coordinator between both campuses. So, we're excited for him to get started. He's just finishing up the paperwork end. Um and so, yeah, that is it on my end. Okay. Uh great. So, uh we have the board retreat on the first as I already mentioned. Uh the our regular scheduled um board meeting is the first Monday of the month. That Monday this month is a holiday. It is the it's Labor Day. So I was asked to see if we wanted to change that. Um >> I thought Jamie just said that because we were doing two other meetings. We weren't having a another Jamie actually just came in. We were just talking about uh the scheduling of our retreat. >> Nope. Of our um regular meeting because the retreat is already scheduled. >> Done. So the regular meeting we are if you you could choose a Monday if you want to do it because Tuesdays are full for the month already. >> So we we have right Monday the 7th is when we usually have it. It's a holiday so we could do it Monday the 14th but then we also have a community forum on >> 15th >> on the 15th. >> 21st is an option. Right. It's tough with it getting on since we're at the beginning of the months when we do these wagon wheels. We >> we have one month that we have a long time in between and then another then we get short. But um >> what is what is everybody's schedule looking like? >> I'm fine with I'm fine with either. If you want to do the 14 14th fine, but whatever whatever works for the majority. >> Okay. >> I mean the 14th your pro your regular business in September won't be too bad. I mean, it could literally be adopting your policies, principal report. You'll get a report from me, but you don't have any data reports or anything. >> Okay. Right. >> And it literally could be just making certain we're ready to go for that forum the next night. >> Okay. Um, Bill, uh, Robin, Robert, is the 14th uh, time a date available for you? >> The 21st isn't. So, yeah, it would only be the 14th for me. >> Okay. >> Yes, I think so. >> Yeah. And I, like I said, I think we can keep it >> fairly >> Yeah, fairly tight. >> Okay. So, we're going to we're going to go ahead and put um uh September 14th. Uh what is our normal time? 5:30. >> Yes. >> 5:30. And >> oh gosh, where are we now? >> Look at the agenda to figure out where we're going to be because I don't look back. >> She'll figure out where we ended and and which school we'll be at. >> Okay. Uh, great. Is there any future agenda items? >> I I have I have one and and I might have missed this from I'm not sure where this should go. Maybe it should go in board comment. I I would like to simply address for us as a board how we um uh address and reply to community outreach via email and comments to the board. >> Okay, >> there we have it on the 14th >> and I want to have a a good understanding of of how that works and um how we as a board reply to community input. And is that specific for emails or all communications? >> I mean I guess I guess all but specifically we've had some emails from community members recently and >> I think that would be a wonderful thing to talk about. >> Yeah. And so I I think we just need to have a dialogue on that. >> Great. Well, let's definitely add that to the 14th. >> All right. Is there any other agenda items? Future agenda items? If you come up with any, feel free to email me, email me or Jamie. >> Yes. Go ahead, Bill. >> Go ahead, Bill. >> It's the fall and it's a time where we get together as a board and evaluate how we did self evaluation and then we um establish our goals for this academic year FY27. So, we just need to um schedule those processes in and I know Robin helped us so much last time with our self-evaluation. Um but we need to attend to those um duties uh in a timely fashion this fall. Thank you. >> All right. Thank you. >> All right. I entertain a motion to adjurnn. >> Second. No move. >> Second. >> All those in favor? >> I >> say I. >> Thank you everyone.
