Robotic Hip Replacement for Hip Arthritis | Dr. Sunil G Kini | Manipal Hospitals Old Airport Road
Watch on YouTubeVideo summary
The video features a case study of Hasmin Bengal, a 45-year-old woman from Manila, Philippines, who sought a second medical opinion at Manipal Hospitals Old Airport Road for severe left hip pain that had persisted and worsened over several years. Upon examination, Dr. Sunil G Kini diagnosed her with advanced stage four arthritis in the left hip, which significantly restricted her movement and made even short walks extremely painful. After reviewing her X-rays and other diagnostic results, the doctor determined that a total hip replacement was the only viable treatment option to address her condition effectively.
Dr. Kini presented Hasmin with a choice between conventional surgery and robot-assisted hip replacement, ultimately guiding her toward the robotic procedure given its advanced capabilities at the hospital. The operation proceeded successfully, resulting in immediate post-operative comfort for the patient. Remarkably, she was able to walk the very next day with assistance and, by one month following the surgery, had progressed to walking without any support, demonstrating the rapid recovery potential associated with this modern surgical technique.
Beyond the medical success, Hasmin shared her positive experience regarding the care and hospitality received at Manipal Hospital throughout her stay. She emphasized that the staff made her feel like part of a family rather than just an international patient, providing significant emotional and practical support during her treatment. This warm environment contributed greatly to her overall well-being, reinforcing her trust in the medical team's professionalism and dedication to patient care.
Now fully recovered enough to stand and walk independently, Hasmin plans to return home with strong recommendations for others suffering from similar conditions. She encourages individuals facing hip arthritis to consider traveling to India specifically to visit Manipal Hospital, where they can access world-class robotic hip replacement services under the guidance of expert doctors. Her testimony serves as a powerful endorsement of both the technological advancements available at the facility and the compassionate approach that defines the patient experience there.

>> Uh I'm Hasmin Bengal from Philippines.
Um I met Dr. Sunil Kinny last February
19.
We uh we came here for us the second
opinion about my illness, but upon
checking my x-ray and other examination,
he suggested me to undergo the robotic
hip replacement immediately so my
illness will be treated.
>> I first saw Miss Hasmin Bengal, a
45-year-old female who hails from
Manila, Philippines
a couple of months back in my outpatient
clinic.
She came to me with increasing
complaints of left hip pain which
started a couple of years back.
Uh and then the pain increased to such
an extent that off late, she was finding
it very difficult to walk even a few
steps without pain setting in.
When I examined her, I found her that
her left hip was extremely painful and
her movements were
restricted as well.
So we did x-rays to confirm that she had
left hip arthritis
uh of advanced stage, stage four, and
the only treatment here possible was a
left total hip replacement.
So I offered the choice of conventional
versus the robot-assisted hip
replacement surgery
and patient uh
uh went in for a robot-assisted
procedure. So the total hip replacement
procedure went well.
Uh patient was extremely comfortable
post-surgery. She walked the [music]
next day itself with the help of
an aid, and currently she is about a
month post-surgery and he says she's
able to [music] walk without any
support.
>> The operation went well.
As of now, you could see that I could
stand and I could walk, but somehow this
one will have to recover step by step.
But, my experience during my stay in
Manipal Hospital was
great. They let me feel that I'm not
from the other country. They helped me a
lot and they take care of me during my
stay in Manipal [music] Hospital. And
they were all very helpful
and they treat me like a family in
Manipal Hospital. And back home, when I
come back, I would suggest other people
or other person who has the same illness
that they should have visit India and to
go to Manipal Hospital to check and
to be treated and try the robotic hip
replacement,
